Is INDIA Safe? 🇮🇳 #1

- Are you wondering if India is a safe travel destination? I had the same doubts before going - especially as a female solo traveler. But after spending a significant amount of time traveling across the country, I can confidently say it was nowhere near as intimidating as I had imagined from what I’d read online.
Every doubt I had was met with nothing but incredible hospitality, friendliness, and help whenever I found myself lost. As someone who loves learning about cultures different from my own, India was a dream come true! Every day brought new discoveries, from vibrant celebrations and festivals to delicious, diverse foods. And after traveling to so many beautiful destinations like Karnataka, Kerala, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh…I find myself wondering why India is still underrated in 2024.
That’s why I wanted to share my journey full of real-life experiences to help you see India in a new light - just like I did. Whether you are a solo traveler, a family, or a couple, maybe it's time to consider adding India to your 2024 travel list: an unforgettable adventure waiting to happen :)
#indiatravel #indianculture #solotravelindia #incredibleindia #femaletravel
Very excited to start sharing my travels across India! This is just the beginning - next episode in 2 weeks :)
Edit: I see there’s been some discussion about the map used in the intro, so I wanted to clarify that I didn’t create it myself. The map is from the website 'The True Size' (www.thetruesize.com/) and was used simply to illustrate how big India is compared to other countries. I understand that some map representations can be sensitive or controversial, but I promise my intention was never to provoke or take any side. Thanks for understanding, and I really appreciate all your feedback!
Be careful in India...
Love from India...🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand have violent crime rate higher than the national average in 2021. Jharkhand has the highest murder rate in 2021. Rajasthan has the highest rape rate in 2021.
Most unsafe states for women in india : rajasthan , uttar pradesh , madhya pradesh , kerala , maharashtra , delhi , assam , karnataka , odisha , telangana , bihar , chattisgarh , tamil nadu.
Never travel alone in India, never let your guard down, and always let your common sense and intuition guide you, and you will do just fine in your India travel.
India is not safe at all. You have to be careful. Don't travel alone. ❤🙏
11:40 "Business in India 🇮🇳 is Indian business, chaos in India is Indian chaos, there is nothing quite like it to compare" 🔥
😄
True words
What a perfect dialogue ❤❤❤
4:00 "Anyway I didn't come to India just for food, I was very eager to learn about hinduism"
feels nice to hear this💜💖😇 otherwise most of them come here for Indian cuisine that's also a good reason
😄 can't limit Indian culture to the food - although the food itself would keep me plenty busy haha
to learn about hinduism you don't need to visit india. Read and Watch Jiddu krishnamurti , it's a major part of indian philosophy

Yes, India has a hygiene and waste management problem, but these youtubers only visit some of those dirty places in such a huge country, and people start judging the whole country.
There are so many beautiful places to visit.
Exactly.
most places are dirty aF. only few places are clean
@@rikishi555 please visit those few places than dont argue and try not to demean a country
To any female foreigner visiting India, make some good Indian friends before visiting. They will help you a lot during your stay. You will less likely be scammed and feel safe.
That's very good advice. All the male friends I've made in India have helped me a lot, and it's always a relief to have someone to count on
Its safe just follow basic rules avoid dark areas and scammers , don't bother horns , don't go to only felhi jaipur there are many more like kerala, meghalaya, Arunachal, sikkim, Himachal, leh, ladhakh, kashmir, Uttarakhand Assam ❤
Of course! More to come about Kerala and then Himachal actually...but still so many places to go!!
Jaipur is good city to listen except the near hawa mahel...
Telugu states are literally the safest in the country
Jaisalmer For Deserts
Goa For Beaches
Ellora And Ajanta Caves for architecture & Taj Mahal As Well
Rishikesh ( Uttarakhand) for River Rafting And Bungee Jumping
As well as Many !!
That's overall great advice to follow here in India.
Such a soft and light way to discover a culture ❤
Staying true to my experience ❤️❤️
As an Indian I appreciate your efforts. I hope by the end of the series you'll also list and share the unsavoury experiences. It's important to balance it out.
We need to be made aware of our short comings to work on them, improve them.
Hope you have a good stay.
You're right, it's important to balance it out. I'll say what bothers me along the way too, and probably wrap up the series with my final thoughts
I have been curious about India but apprehensive about going. Thank you for sharing your positive experience
It's my pleasure, I hope this helps :)
Apprehensive about what ?. It is a country as big as europe and americas combined. It is much more safer than most developing countries on earth
Come to Kerala, India
07:01 broo that "intruder" got me....nice edit
Hahah having fun editing 😁
I think when people come to India they should look at each state as a country because each state has different people from skin color to religion, culture, language, etiquettes and beauty.
If tourist would judge India as a whole it would be difficult.
------------
People of U.P for example is totally different from people of Karnatka in every sense from their daily life and world view. Same goes for Nagaland and Ladakh.
-----------------------
Some places where even indians would be scared to go. But some places are tourist friendly.
At some places people consume meat more and at some places people dont.
Some state liquor is banned at some places it is consumed widely.
---------------------
At some places girls feel unsafe and at some places they can move freely.
----------------------
At some places people are more fascinated with foreigner white skin and would not leave you and ask for photos and at some places they won't.
So when tourists come please dont make a mistake and jump on the city where everyone goes. Research a little more and go on unexplored places. 1st less people and more friendly faces who geniuenly care and not there to scam you.
----------+++---------
State wise comparison would be the best measurement to judge.
Thank you
I absolutely agree. It's a whole subcontinent to be explored. I also met a lot of Indian tourists visiting other states and feeling like they were discovering a new country!

You can plan your trip to Sikkim. I don't think any vloggers have been there. They are places like Yumthang valley, Zero Point and Gurudongmar Lake in Sikkim. You can look up pictures on internet about those places. Best time to visit is during the winter months.

No full stops in India as Mark Tully once wrote. This land is so diverse that any experience you have an equal opposite is also true. And that makes it a strange incomparable place with as you say 'no baseline can prepare you for'. To the world travelers planning their first or next visit to Bharat (that is India), either in a group or solo, please do stray away from the touristy places. Stay at homes and just don't indulge only in budget travel. India offers your some of the finest experiences in the world as well. Namaste and thank you Sophia for sharing your honest first experience.
You summed everything up in a perfectly worded message. It's a relief to see some people do get it. Thank you for that. :)

Is India safe? May or may not
Pls keep your safety and I advise you to keep a company with you If you have to go somewhere in night.
(I may sound weird but I'm concerned about your safety)
Ps :- A case happened with a fellow doc from my state won't mention much or would be cursed by some fake patriotists here.
Enjoy your stay in 🇮🇳❤
Absolutely, common sense still applies, especially when solo traveling as a woman. You don't sound weird at all. Thank you for your concern 🤗
Well what happened,we concerned about that and things will be better But please don't EXAGGERATE about it, OKAY!!!! That's west bengal and we can expect such things ,when you have demon government there But it's not the same case in every state, Don't talk like a nonsense and be more understanding about every state of India you Indian. You don't have any idea with such comments, you making bad image of our country around the world which is not happening in every state or every place. You just scaring foreign girls and visiters...
And if you look at Australia , it happened in a parliament, then I would suppose that whole Australia is not safe right!!! But no you will still have a good feelings for Australia because of your mindset.
And one more case... during Olympics in Paris, a tourist girl was raped by some people but no one talked about it because western media knows how to hide their own faults and make money showing negative news from India which easy to target and you are helping them with your less knowledge.
@@Sunny11458 Indian English gives me a headache 😀
Bro are you from WB?
Every solo traveller should take care of themselves, no need to say that. No place in the world is safe, anything can happen with anyone, it actually depends upon the traveller how he/she is handling the situation. As far as I'm concerned you sound like India is way more dangerous than it actually is. Thousands of Solo travellers came to India and enjoyed every bit of it. Don't be her Mom.
I think you are the first foreigner who explored everything regarding Indian culture in such a deep way, ❤ I love it.
That is awesome of you to say, thank you! I do my best 🤍
Visit Rishikesh and Himanchal Pradesh to experience yoga and spirituality in Hinduism. And yes a little bit of alertness would keep you safe.
Himachal Pradesh is on the list! And don't worry, I have a good head on my shoulders :)
Is India safe? Mostly yes. But avoid some states if you can like Bihar, Jharkhand, Chaatisgarh and Uttar Pradesh's rural areas. Those are the areas where the population is insanely high and concentrated with lesser development along with rural areas not being that well connected. I am from Uttar Pradesh so I know it for a fact. The worst turist trap is the Delhi-Rajasthan-Agra/Varanasi trap. If you go to Delhi, just take a bus up north into the Himalayas, would be much more worthwhile. Varanasi is not for everyone and the infra sucks there. I was born and brought up there and that place has gone downhill in the past 10 years. Used to be much more quaint, free thinking and nice but now is just overcrowded with tourist who are mostly religious conservatives. I have myself been living in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Still the best place to visit is Kerala in India along with Meghalaya. If you get a chance do visit any of the music festivals in India's North East like Ziro festival or Hornbill Festival. Those are some of the best festivals. Sikkim is a hidden gem that people do not visit generally but is bonkers good.
Thank you for your recommendations! I have been to some of the places up North you listed, like Uttar Pradesh/ Agra and all, and I agree that the difference could be felt. Especially compared to Kerala. India's so complex and huge...it took me a lot of research beforehand to decide where to go! So thanks again for taking the time to write this down, I'm sure it will help people :)
I think infra in UP has gone uphill for around 10 years especially for religious places like ayodhya or Varanasi or Kashi. Of course they are crowded but are a much better place than earlier. 😊
@@rishiraj3351 I am from Varanasi. Infra is still shit.
@@SophiaGarbay UP is the most populated state and has improved in last 7 years a lot ..of course it's chaotic but much to appreciate

*LOVE FROM INDIA*
🧡🤍💚
If the point of travel is to challenge ourselves, then naturally we should seek out the most “difficult” destinations, like India. Not to change them - but to change ourselves... 20 things to love india
1. The Chaos,The noise, the honking, the crowds-an overwhelming assault on the senses.Amidst the chaos, there’s life-vibrant, bustling, and full of energy like nowhere else.
2. Traffic,Endless jams, erratic driving, and near-miss collisions.
The thrill of surviving it, the organized madness, and the unexpected charm of sharing the road with cows.
3. Street Food,Fear of Delhi belly, questionable hygiene, and unfamiliar spices.Unforgettable flavors, the intoxicating aroma of fresh samosas, and the satisfaction of discovering culinary gems on every corner.
4. Bargaining,The exhausting back-and-forth, never knowing if you’re being ripped off. The game of negotiation, scoring a great deal, and feeling like a local when you finally master it.
5. Crowds,Feeling constantly surrounded by people, with no concept of personal space.
The sense of belonging in a collective, the shared experience, and the warmth of the human connection.
6. Weather,The oppressive heat or monsoon downpours that make traveling uncomfortable. The warm tropical nights, the cool Himalayan breezes, and the dramatic beauty of India’s changing seasons.
7. Bureaucracy The red tape, endless paperwork, and waiting in lines. The feeling of triumph when you navigate it successfully-like winning a game of patience.
8. Rickshaw Rides,The bumpy, unpredictable ride with a driver who seems immune to road rules. The thrill of the experience, the feeling of adventure, and the fact that rickshaws can cut through traffic like magic.
9. Religious Rituals,The overwhelming noise of temple bells, crowded religious sites, and chaotic rituals. The deep spirituality, the vibrant festivals, and the beauty of ancient traditions in action.
10. Wildlife on the Roads,The inconvenience of cows, monkeys, and stray dogs blocking your path. The charm of sharing urban space with sacred animals, a reminder that life in India is sacred and everywhere.
11. Train Journeys,The delays, overcrowded carriages, and sometimes uncomfortable conditions. The romanticism of long train rides, the breathtaking views of the countryside, and the camaraderie of fellow passengers.
12. Cultural Differences, The confusion and occasional culture shock-gestures, customs, and norms can feel foreign and frustrating. The richness and diversity of Indian culture, the kindness of locals, and the constant sense of discovery.
13. Spicy Food,The spice levels that feel like they’re burning a hole in your stomach. The complex layers of flavor, the thrill of surviving the heat, and the satisfaction of adapting to it.
14. Language Barrier Difficulty communicating, especially in more remote areas where English isn’t widely spoken. The joy of non-verbal communication, the universal language of smiles, and the thrill of learning a few local words.
15. Public Transportation, Crowded buses, confusing schedules, and questionable hygiene standards.
The affordability, the authenticity of traveling like a local, and the surprising efficiency once you get the hang of it.
16. Wedding InvitationsFeeling obligated to attend the wedding of someone you barely know. The spectacular celebration, endless feasts, vibrant colors, and incredible hospitality that make you feel like family.
17. The Smells,The pungent mix of pollution, waste, and overcrowded urban areas. The intoxicating scent of spices, incense, jasmine flowers, and freshly cooked food wafting through the air.
18. The Noise,The constant cacophony-honking horns, chattering crowds, and loudspeakers blaring music. The lively atmosphere that makes you feel like you're in the heart of something big, something alive.
19. The Attention,Being stared at, followed by street vendors, or constantly asked for selfies. The genuine curiosity, the warm hospitality, and the opportunity to engage with locals who want to know about your world.
20. Poverty and Wealth,The stark contrasts between extreme wealth and poverty, often side by side.
The resilience of the people, the generosity of those who have little, and the deep humanity that pervades all classes of society.
India can be a land of extremes, and for many tourists, it is these contrasts that make the experience both challenging and deeply rewarding.imgur.com/a/EGNUUQY
I can definitely relate to all of that! 😅
But what's challenging at the beginning will be rewarding in the end 💪

I've been to UK. I'm Indian. I found that UK is more dangerous than India in every way. In UK everyone is just quite about all their issues whereas they look down on India. The truth is just like every country you should research for good places to visit and bad places to avoid and everything will be fine. I've found that theres more scope to be good and have better future in India than in anywhere in the world. Most lf the world thinks its already up there and hence there isn't much room for change. India need not become like the west but the party and drug culture of west is not obviously helping india in any way. I dont like these druggies of the west and everywhere.

Some vloggers are extremely biased.
If you type Bhutan travel in English on UA-cam you will see Kamiya Jani giving tips about travelling in Bhutan and many American vloggers have admired Bhutan but their videos have only become popular among Indians and Bhutanese people.
Just type Travel Bhutan in Russian and you will see a video by Illya Varmalov titled
"Bhutan: Himalayan Paradise or cold, poor and repressive shole?"
That video is full of lies about Bhutan and it has 5 million views.
Bhutan is a middle income country and is in no way poor. They can become high income if they have 6-8% GDP growth for 25 years.
Then Bhutan is a constitutional monarchy and it is like Denmark on paper. They are not even among the worst 50 countries of the world in terms of corruption, rule of law, political rights and civil liberties. In the Bertelsmann Transformation Index they are in blue category with India, Taiwan, Botswana, Costa Rica and Chile. All repressive countries are in red category.
Also, if you consider Bhutan a shole why you spent US$ 1600 there?
The problem with that guy is that if he went to Bhutan and shared his travel experiences he would have only got 20k-30k views. In order to get millions of views he created negativity, pushed shock and churned sensationalism.
Then one Russian guy commented under his video that after watching you in Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh and Bhutan, I have decided not to visit any South Asian country.
This is just like telling Tyler Oliviera that after watching your videos in USA, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Haiti, I have decided not to travel North America.
Thank you for sharing your perspective! Clickbait and dishonesty can indeed have real repercussions. I agree it's important to present a balanced view and encourage everyone to keep an open mind.

Just follow a simple rule you will be safe in all over the world if locals say Don t go to this place then never go there
be happy and enjoy your journey 😊
That's very sensible advice. Thank you 🙏☺️
@@SophiaGarbaythank you and your channel is the first channel that give a better view of india because i am literally tired of r@cist anti indian vloggers ❤
There r many clean areas in India too like Indore, South Bombay, BKC, Gurugram etc, but in some areas where amount of population is too high, there is an issue with cleanness and yes we need to improve in those areas, but Social Media only highlights the 'Negative' areas of India in such an intensity that foreigners don't even believe that the above mentioned cities even belong to India. There was a Movie Character in India who was a Handicap, who used to make Flat Breads using his armpits( obviously it isn't real, its a movie) yet it has been portrayed in Social Media in Such a way that the person is real.
That's my understanding as well. It doesn't do justice to all the clean places which remain unknown. And I've actually heard about that clip! 😅
You shud first visit the four main metros of India, followed by landscape areas like kerala, himalayas, etc...
Spot on, my next destinations were Kerala and then HP :)
@@SophiaGarbay Ok so don't confuse one thing.
The four main metros are
Delhi North
Mumbai West
Kolkata East
Chennai South
Bangalore Ahmedabad they r newly formed cities but the above mentioned are the original four metros, you can even check their telephone codes, of the 4 cities and relate.
I suggest you to visit HP darjeeling along with northeast, also visit seoni in MP where jungle book was based and sundarbans.
Many places are their in india, and always find information via offline sources, as online sources will often direct you to common tourist places like agra jaipur.
