My top 2 from the modern era are Steven Wilson and Marius Duda, and to complete my 5, from the classic era, Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, and Peter Gabriel, with an honourable mention to David Sylvian.
Fernando Perdomo is a true modern prog rock visionaire imho. One of the very few people who can truly perfectly replicate the sonic fingerprints of the classic records but also build on top of it. Check out his Out to Sea series of albums. Another incredible fresh talent would be Tom Penaguin - a fricking prodigy that has to be heard by every retro enthusiast.
Great list! My list off the top of my head: 1) Devin Townsend 2) Casey Crescenzo 3) Steven Wilson 4) Michael Mills 5) Ihsahn 6) Arjen Lucassen 7) Neal Morse 8) Mike Portnoy 9) Jordan Rudess 10) John Petrucci 11) Michael Romeo 12) Richard Henshall 13) Charlie Griffiths 14) Misha Mansoor 15) Mikael Akerfeldt 16) David Maxim Micic 17) Maynard James Keenan 18) Mariusz Duda 19) Ryo Okumoto 20) Ben Craven
Before I get too deep into the list in your video, for my top 5 post-90s prog visionaries, it's definitely gotta be Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy, Steven Wilson, Devin Townsend, and Arjen Lucassen.
@@NathanOnShuffle Heck yeah! My reasoning for the two non-matches... well Portnoy was in many ways a driving force for DT, being in charge of their setlists and a lot of aspects of the band, and was often the linchpin for all kinds of new projects like Transatlantic and Flying Colors and Sons of Apollo and Adrenaline Mob and such... more so than any other DT member, in my opinion. And then Devin Townsend, while not having his fingers in as many other artist's pies, still forged a very unique and prolific path in prog-metal, influencing tons of modern acts, working with many of them on some of his projects, and he's even lent his skills as producer to several bands.
Blessings to all the visionaries! Ya’ll are shining diamonds in the ever increasing conveyer belt of bland music. For those interested in diving down the rabbit hole, look into my debut series “The Heavenly Scrolls” for progressive forward thinking instrumental music. Nurture the tones that resonate within you
My Top 5 List?
1) Steven Wilson
2) Neal Morse
3) Marius Duda
4) Mikael Akerfeldt

Wow! Super cool idea.
Great list! We are currently on tour with The Dear Hunter and watching these stories be told live by the band has been nothing short of amazing.
Awesome! An all-star line-up! Wish I could see you guys on tour!

Awesome selections! Got a few matches!

Ironically, each one of the "post-90's" artists you've mentioned was very active in the 90's. 😅
great list. i'd add mariuz duda (riverside, lunatic soul, solo...).
A great suggestion! Wish I would have included him in the video as an honorable mention!

I would put Ed wynne on here as well.
A list without Christian Vander is incomplete. He created his own subgenre in prog.
He's definitely a visionary, but modern? Nah.
@@lauscho His music is definitely still modern. Only equalled by the likes of Frank Zappa, Daniel Denis and Robert Fripp.
