I'm a Canadian (Toronto, Ontario) who has a friend in Norwich. I think it's fab! How lucky you both are. I'm disappointed that he left out the dragon, though! 🇬🇧
I have spent the past 20 years living in Australia, and I can honestly say there hasn't been a day gone by where I haven't thought of my beloved Norwich. I am so terribly home-sick and can't wait to see my beautiful City again. I'm planning on coming back permanently in the not too distant future, and am so glad to see that it still looks pretty much as I remember it.......apart from some of my favourite shops no longer being there (I could happily spend an hour or more browsing around Hovells). Your video brought it all back to me so clearly and it brings me great comfort knowing that it is still very familiar and beautiful as ever. I am so excited about returning to Norwich, I can't wait to stroll down Elm Hill and visit the Castle museum again and just enjoy being home again. Thankyou😁
Norwich is my home city and I've lived here all my life. It truly is a fine city! Fun fact: Some scenes in Stardust were also filmed at Elm Hill and in the Cathedral.
I was born and raised in Norwich I moved to Australia with my family 16 years ago and it’s so nice to see not much of my city has changed I miss it so much.
fun fact: gravity trampoline place on the riverside used to be Time nightclub, people loved time as the dancefloor upstairs was bouncy, a few years later it was discovered that the foundations were moving and unstable( hence the bouncy floor), its quite apt that it is now a trampoline place!
This is the best documentary on Norwich that I have seen. It touched me that this unique city should have won my heart from the middle of the United States as well as yours from Asia.
Sad seeing Norwich as quiet as that . Any one looking to visit in the future be aware it’s normally really busy! Great City and no where better to go out and about ....
Hi Tim, Just wanted to say I have lived just outside Norwich for 22 years and regularly go in to the city. After watching your video I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude for where we live, also that I should look up more! Loved the video keep it up buddy!
When you walked into the church in tombland (the wonky building). The reason the path is lower was due to the plauge, too many bodies and not enough space, so the soil level was raised to accommodate them. The roman Catholic cathedral and plantation gardens are also very much hidden gems in plain sight. The prison also used to be the cavalry barracks, hence the iconic shape. Final fun fact is that the nazis party loved Norwich City Hall and based some of thier own buildings on its style. Just things I learnt doing works for the council and meeting the people who look after the bits and bobs. Lovely video 👌❤️
@Target Trees. Thanks for the extra info… yes, the poor Catholic Cathedral often gets overlooked, and it’s a marvellous sight. I also like to spend time at Strangers Hall for a history fix 🙂. I doubt the Nazis would be impressed with City Hall at present, with some of the hands missing from the tower clock 😕
That's my city!! The best thing is that you only scratched the surface with this video!! Not to mention everything else that is just outside the city like the old roman town and such!!

Still a bit sad to see the eerie quietness of the town. One thing I could take from this town is the inspiration of the fine and long lasting architecture.
Thank 6ou for the wonderful memories. I was 6 when i left this town, saying goodbye to my grandparents at the railway station, on our way to Australia, in 1963. I do hope to come back soon. I remembervthe market and the city hall where i would wait for my mother, and talk to the left griffin, while she went in to pay a bill.

Norwich gal here! The now “cosy club” was indeed a big bank! Also prince of wales road is still very much alive ! Unfortunately some have shut down . But their are lots of nooks and crannies with clubs!
Really enjoyed that tour of Norwich, I'm always rushing around when I go and never stop to appreciate the buildings and architecture. Think I will slow down next time and look around me. Thank you.
Norwich is my home town. I have currently been living and working I Australia for 2 and a half years and its been really difficult as im only here on a temporary visa so if I leave the country I cannot return. Seeing Norwich like this has reminded me how much character it has and I do miss home a great deal.
Just to let you know Tombland was the Old English name for open ground and the market was held there until the cathedral was built. It has nothing to do with the plague. The skeletons found are thought to belong to a church that was demolished when they built the cathedral.
I think it was Norwich I went to see when I was staying with a friend in Cromer, 21 years ago! I lost contact with the friend & almost forgot the place but I remember the Cathedral & the old stone buildings, at the time I thought they were churches & chapels on every corner! I remember Cromer Pier well with the big hotel facing it & I remember the winding streets in Cromer. They are the only 2 places I've been to in East Anglia. Thanks Tim, I've finally found out which part of the country is East Anglia, I thought it was near Newcastle & Hull! Very interesting blog on Norwich, the old quaint character of the buildings reminds me of Chester.
I was lucky on several occasions to get on aircraft test flights from luton to Norwich airport doing touch and goes on various jets .And I can honestly say looking at Norwich from above from the cathedral to the various areas of the Norfolk broads on a beautiful sunny day it was a wonderful site . I never envisaged how vast the Broads and Norwich was . I will look for some of the dvd shots I took as we went round . Again another great presentation on my favourite part of the uk . Keep it going
I love the old Victorian arcades. There were two in Bournemouth that I remember as a small boy. I think they are still there, or at least one of them is. I always remember them as being very grand. The one in Norwich is no exception. Who needs big flashy shopping complexes, when you can have a really classy shopping Arcade. 😁 Thank you Tim. Another great tour.
After lockdown, if you visit Norwich again, the Tourist information point is in the Forum building and has some interesting guided walks and history leaflets. Definitely worth checking out. Also the Norwich Ghost Tour is good too. I read that the City Hall was spared from the bombing in WW2 because Hitler had his eye on it for his future speeches on the balcony. It was pictured in his Baedeker guide book to UK. Also the plinth opposite overlooking the market is part of the Norwich War memorial. it looks scruffy sadly from that side but if you walk round it has a nice sculpture and some inscriptions in the other side. In recent years they have moved the wooden WW1 memorial from the Castle to inside City Hall. It’s just on left through those big doors. When City Hall is open as normal it’s worth a look as it’s beautiful. Like a giant wooden book of names. If you visit from the train station the better walk into the city is through the Complete Angler garden and along the river to the Cathedral. Much nicer than seedy Prince of Wales Road. The cosy club looks lovely inside, some beautiful stained glass and art nouveau features. Also there is now a restaurant and bar at the top of one of the buildings near Rose Lane car park (Rooftop gardens.?) that is supposed to have some nice views over the city? The Royal Arcade is beautiful too but seems to have a lot of empty shops now which is a shame. Thanks for doing this video 👍🏻
Great video and it brings back good memories. I lived, for years, around Norwich in Blofield, Weston Longville, Horsford, Hethersett and finally Easton. I adore Norwich and Norfolk and really miss it, now that I live 200 miles away!
Cosy Club restaurant was Natwest bank, before the bank it was the Corn Exchange. There have been a few burials found in Tombland, it was the site of a church, and there were plague pits nearby, there was another church in the cathedral grounds
Hi Tim, really liked the video. I watched this a few weeks ago the day before I went to Norwich for two nights. My family are moving up to the area and I wanted to see what it was like before I went. Really liked Norwich and your video surprised me with how nice a city it is. It's definitely a hidden gem.
15:30 - you asked about the little blue door into Ethelbert Gate, it leads up above the actual gateway and is used as a school classroom for the Norwich School (formerly known as King Edward School) which is mainly based in the Cathedral Close to the left of the actual Cathedral as you walk through Erpingham Gate from Tombland (you went through Erpingham Gate on your way to the Cathedral). Quick bit of local knowledge for you, that Gate is named after Sir Thomas Erpingham who was in charge of King Henry V's archers at the Battle of Agincourt, Sir Thomas is also buried within the Cathedral as well as having a Gate named after him). Awesome video and I'm really glad to see someone really enjoys walking around this fine city I live in 🙂
I live in lowestoft and I always go here and I love it. I'd love to live there when I'm older because it's much better and there is not as much traffic as lowestoft
There is a series of books based in Tudor times by C J Samson the latest is called Tombland and is based around Norwich, interesting if you like history.
A great city to visit. Been twice pre Covid, the market was bustling with some great stalls and little food outlets. The city has a very friendly vibe to it. Ideal for a quieter city break.
I love your video of Norwich. I like the hustle and bustle of the city. The fact you get the oportunity during the pandemic to film and not have interruptions by traffic is a bonus! Gravity was Lava and Ignite nightclubs back in the day.
the film stardust 2007 was filmed in norwich too. Britons Arms coffee shop, Elm Hill, Norwich. was turned into the The Slaughtered Prince pub. and Elm Hill, was used for the Stormhold streets and market scenes
Norwich Cathedral has been used in film sets notably Jack the Giant Slayer with Ewan McGreggor and Nicholas Hault. It was the kings castle and it also has a very famous cat call Budge who resides within the walls. What used to be Boby Chefs on POW Road is now an Irish pub called Pogue Mahones. With regards to Tombland Alley, Legend has it the residents died of the plague and were boarded up inside the house. But, the story goes, one young girl was still alive, and subsequently starved to death. It is her ghost that is said to haunt the premises. There have been reports of her apparition seen materializing around the alleyway, her legs “fading away below the knees.” What is now Gravity trampoline park used to be Time nightclub. Fatso's has now gone and I believe it is has been converted into a Mulligans indoor mini golf centre. Yes, Delia still owns Yellows, it's very busy during match days.
The old bridge you walked over on magdalen street used to be where the ducking stool was for those poor unfortunate 'witches' loved watching this video with my boys as we walk around all these areas on an almost weekly basis, they really enjoyed seeing it all on youtube!
Lovely video again. As a norwich city fan this one was particularly good. Love all the ones you do, great to see and learn about a county so dear to my heart.
Hi Tim. Another great video. Norwich is such an underrated city. Just beautiful. Have you checked out the wonderfully spooky Adam & Eve pub? It isn't far from the Cathedral. Also, it is the starting point for the Norwich ghost walks. Really recommend. Cheers.
Thank you so much for showing some highlights of Norwich I have never noticed before. Lived here all my life! For your info 😅 The Cosy Club was Natwest Bank I worked there once the building is stunning inside so worth a visit even as a bar/restaurant
Fantastic city ,never expected it like this , brilliant streets and buildings ,it's defo a hidden treasure to alot if us ,thanks Tim ,also Norwich fans , am manu utd and Halifax fan you should be back up in premiership Soon 👍
One of the avenger filming sites was actually at the University of East Anglia which is just outside the city. The ‘Sainsbury’s centre’ is what the building is called and it was filmed as the avengers HQ
A great walk around my fine city of Norwich. It's worth a walk through the cathedral and visit Cow Tower and The Adam and Eve pub. The brain statue etc. is being removed at some point for flower beds and a water fountain. The old Mercey club on POW road is going to be turned into flats. Liquid is supposedly reopening at some point. Although, given Covid I cannot see that happening myself. The Prince of Wales pub is reopening as well at some point.
My in-laws live in and around Norwich, I always love visiting. I live in Greater Manchester and i even love the drive as there are not many hills and lots of flat land for miles.
The creatures guarding the entrance to the City Hall are actually Lions. Like the rest of City Hall, they were made in the Art Deco style which explains why they look a little different. If you ever get the opportunity to go inside City Hall, it's really worth it. There are still a majority of the original fixtures and fittings. Going into and out of the Royal Arcade, definitely look up at the tiling and decoration over the entrances and exits, these are just fantastically beautiful pieces of art in their own right.
Fantastic video as always. Mousehold Heath is famous for Ketts rebellion. And at one time the Heath spread further towards heartsease. Where the roads are now and dunelm etc are all used to be part of mousehold Heath. Shame they replaced it with roads though.
The area at the top of Gurney road at Mousehold, the retail park, school, sport field and houses used to be a WW1 airfield called Royal Air Force Mousehold Heath. A couple of aircraft crashed on the Heath during world war two.
Another great video thanks Tim! Cosy club that you asked what it was before was the nat west bank and I used to work in there! So pleased it's being used for something else as it's a beautiful building.
Awwwww Tim......you made me REALLY homesick watching your video. Lived in Costessey from 1969-1991 when my husband decided to change jobs and move us to Swindon! ALWAYS say im going home when i go to Norwich 😍. Also been a NCFC fan since i was 9 now 60 n spent most of my youth at Carrow Rd 💚💛⚽💛💚. Norwich has sooooo much history.....never really appreciated it when i was younger though! Great beaches close by too. Thanks for taking me down memory lane and when covid restrictions lift more i shall be straight home visiting family! 👍🏻. Thanx again x
You've really caught the essence of Norwich there; well done. And I even saw my old office window at City Hall! Cosy Club used to be a branch of National Westminster Bank.
Lovely walk Tim . Beautiful place . You do a lot for tourism for these towns. Hope they appreciate that when things open up again. Have a great day Tim and Gaby. 😀👍👏🏻
Oi Tim.
Loved this! A Norwich old'un now, I recall a 1950s city with a 'county town' ambiance, a large cattle market dominating its centre. Anglia TV became a major player - think _Sale Of The Century, Survival, Tales Of The Unexpected,_ etc. The Victorian train station (then Norwich Thorpe Station) starred in _The Go Between._ Prince of Wales Road, once a charming Edwardian avenue, declined into a noisy vomfest whenever 'clubland' emptied out, a ghastly low point. City Hall, a '30s gem, was inspired by Stockholm's, hence its clean Scandinavian vibe. Btw, those are lions, not griffins (no eagle's head)! I wandered Elm Hill as a boy, and it's great that it's still so original. The Forum, home of BBC East, rose majestically from the ashes of the uninspiring '60s library building that burned down despite its being 100 yards from the fire station. The revamped Theatre Royal is greatly improved. And nowadays-ubiquitous pedestrianisation was pioneered in 1960's Norwich's London Street. The Castle and Cathedral are both 11C early Norman, originally of Caen (Normandy) stone, though the castle was refaced with English Bath stone in the 19C. The big open Market was all rickety stalls when I was young - its reinvention was necessary for health and safety reasons and, Covid notwithstanding, it's a vibrant retail wonder.
I grew up in North Norfolk and went to school at the posh one in the Cathedral Close. Many hundreds of times walking through Tombland. Very sad to see the clubs closed (I realise this is filmed 3 yrs ago), as I can remember going out regularly to Hys in tombland and then Liquid… and my favourite was Time down on riverside… with the bouncy floor! I took my kids camping a year ago in Norfolk and took them round my old stomping ground… they loved the Castle mall… and how different it is to any other shopping place they’d been to… Did you not fancy a quick sprint down Magdalen Street and go to Anglia Square? I also took my kids to the UEA and the posed where they shot the scenes for the Avengers compound just outside the Sainsbury Centre. I do miss Norwich since I moved to Suffolk in 2005 and then to Wales in 2013… always enjoy going back even if it is only occasionally now. Great vid.
I absolutely love Norwich everything is in walking distance so much to do in Norfolk to and see Waterloo to Eaton park plus the UEA , get dressed up for the day and head back in time to Tudor times at kentwell hall, see Banham Zoo or go back further to the dinosaur park

Great video and it brings back good memories. I lived, for years, around Norwich in Blofield, Weston Longville, Horsford, Hethersett and finally Easton. I adore Norwich and Norfolk and really miss it, now that I live 200 miles away!
Mercy Nightclub being turned in to something like 30 apartments with a penthouse suite, Gym & Coffee shop downstairs.
P.s do Cambridge - Thanks.
yes I thought so
will be up in next few weeks
Cosy Club restaurant was Natwest bank, before the bank it was the Corn Exchange.
There have been a few burials found in Tombland, it was the site of a church, and there were plague pits nearby, there was another church in the cathedral grounds
Plague pits ! yikes
Without doubt one of the best Cities in England. Truly A Fine City.
Agree
I like your video! It made me miss Norwich. I graduated from UEA in 1995. I think I'll plan a trip to visit Norwich and my alma mater. Thank you, Tim!
Us Norwich peeps live in Toronto now. So nice to have a little walk round with you. Thanks Tim.
My pleasure
Hi Tim, really liked the video. I watched this a few weeks ago the day before I went to Norwich for two nights. My family are moving up to the area and I wanted to see what it was like before I went. Really liked Norwich and your video surprised me with how nice a city it is. It's definitely a hidden gem.
Fantastic!
I definitely need to explore this city more; that market square is amazing given how many sights are within a stones throw away!
Thanks for watching
Awesome video and I'm really glad to see someone really enjoys walking around this fine city I live in 🙂
Wow .. you have so much knowledge about Norwich, Thank for this
Don’t live in Norfolk anymore, it was very interesting to see you walk around where I walked a lot very much enjoyed this video
Thanks remember to subscribe
Wow how amazing Norwich was with all those old buildings and where they film thank you Tim for doing Norwich definitely on my to do list now
My pleasure!
I live in lowestoft and I always go here and I love it. I'd love to live there when I'm older because it's much better and there is not as much traffic as lowestoft
There is a series of books based in Tudor times by C J Samson the latest is called Tombland and is based around Norwich, interesting if you like history.
Thanks colin
Great video. Went to uni in Norwich from 1999 and have some great memories. Go back there every year now for a pilgrimage and a tour of the pubs.
you are welcome
A great city to visit. Been twice pre Covid, the market was bustling with some great stalls and little food outlets. The city has a very friendly vibe to it. Ideal for a quieter city break.
Very true
I love your video of Norwich. I like the hustle and bustle of the city. The fact you get the oportunity during the pandemic to film and not have interruptions by traffic is a bonus!
Gravity was Lava and Ignite nightclubs back in the day.
Gravity started off life as Time Nightclub
Looking forward to seeing this walk Tim.
I hope it doesn't disappoint!
the film stardust 2007 was filmed in norwich too. Britons Arms coffee shop, Elm Hill, Norwich. was turned into the The Slaughtered Prince pub. and Elm Hill, was used for the Stormhold streets and market scenes
Yes forget to mention stardust
Norwich Cathedral has been used in film sets notably Jack the Giant Slayer with Ewan McGreggor and Nicholas Hault. It was the kings castle and it also has a very famous cat call Budge who resides within the walls.
What used to be Boby Chefs on POW Road is now an Irish pub called Pogue Mahones. With regards to Tombland Alley, Legend has it the residents died of the plague and were boarded up inside the house. But, the story goes, one young girl was still alive, and subsequently starved to death. It is her ghost that is said to haunt the premises. There have been reports of her apparition seen materializing around the alleyway, her legs “fading away below the knees.”
What is now Gravity trampoline park used to be Time nightclub.
You're welcome
The Cathedral & side street architecture was amazing.❤
Loved the other 1066 place too!
Lovely video again. As a norwich city fan this one was particularly good. Love all the ones you do, great to see and learn about a county so dear to my heart.
Many thanks!
Hi Tim. Another great video. Norwich is such an underrated city. Just beautiful. Have you checked out the wonderfully spooky Adam & Eve pub? It isn't far from the Cathedral. Also, it is the starting point for the Norwich ghost walks. Really recommend. Cheers.
I will check it out
Thank you so much for showing some highlights of Norwich I have never noticed before. Lived here all my life! For your info 😅 The Cosy Club was Natwest Bank I worked there once the building is stunning inside so worth a visit even as a bar/restaurant
Glad you enjoyed it! Louisa

You're welcome thanks for watching, remember to hit subscribe
I love my hometown after seeing it through your camera.
I grew up in Norwich, a great City.
We live there!!! Norwich is definitely one of a kind.
Very true
One of the avenger filming sites was actually at the University of East Anglia which is just outside the city. The ‘Sainsbury’s centre’ is what the building is called and it was filmed as the avengers HQ
Yes it was .. looks so good that building
I can't wait to move to Norwich, hopefully by the end of November or even earlier. Love the city. Love from Suffolk
I was stationed at Coltishall but in 1992,I filmed a game show called Jumble at Anglia TV.
Loved Norwich, its a wonderful city.
wow!
My in-laws live in and around Norwich, I always love visiting. I live in Greater Manchester and i even love the drive as there are not many hills and lots of flat land for miles.
Home town for 20 years; bloody love it 💕
great!
awwwww it’s been ages to be in Norwich. it reminds me of all the streets and spots I’ve been to. Thanks for the clip 👍🏻👍🏻

Going into and out of the Royal Arcade, definitely look up at the tiling and decoration over the entrances and exits, these are just fantastically beautiful pieces of art in their own right.
thanks for correcting me .. I was thinking they might be
Fantastic video as always.
Mousehold Heath is famous for Ketts rebellion. And at one time the Heath spread further towards heartsease. Where the roads are now and dunelm etc are all used to be part of mousehold Heath. Shame they replaced it with roads though.
yes its very big
The area at the top of Gurney road at Mousehold, the retail park, school, sport field and houses used to be a WW1 airfield called Royal Air Force Mousehold Heath. A couple of aircraft crashed on the Heath during world war two.
@@davegoldsmith4020 there’s a spot somewhere that marks it I think in the school field.
@@Tiggysmum The memorial plaque to the crashed aircraft is on the bank just past the junction of Gurney road/ Mousehold Ave
Another great video thanks Tim! Cosy club that you asked what it was before was the nat west bank and I used to work in there! So pleased it's being used for something else as it's a beautiful building.
hi Gavin, I thought so .. thanks for watching
Thanks lin for the comment, glad you enjoyed it ... its always good to see through someone else's eyes
Love how you completely ignore the old prison behind you at the end 🙈🤦🏻♂️😂
to be honest I didn't know that was there until after I shot the video ...epic fail on my part lol
You've really caught the essence of Norwich there; well done. And I even saw my old office window at City Hall! Cosy Club used to be a branch of National Westminster Bank.
Thanks Deanna
Another wow… and somewhere else I need to visit.
Thanks for the interesting vlog from 2yrs ago.
Just love the colour of the sky.
:-)
Lovely walk Tim . Beautiful place . You do a lot for tourism for these towns. Hope they appreciate that when things open up again. Have a great day Tim and Gaby. 😀👍👏🏻
thanks for watching Mel
@@WalkWithMeTim you are welcome Tim. ☀️
Oi Tim.
Born here live here its a blimin lovely place
They're actually changing the castle keep to look more like the castle when it was first built
they are?
Look forward to visiting once finished. Love the castle keep.
Like the original Norman castle, all of the walls
A £13.5m project
The guy in charge of it is a massive history buff so I think it will turn out pretty accurate
Wow , nice thanks for the info and history
Watching this makes me homesick!
Sorry to hear that nick
I grew up in North Norfolk and went to school at the posh one in the Cathedral Close. Many hundreds of times walking through Tombland. Very sad to see the clubs closed (I realise this is filmed 3 yrs ago), as I can remember going out regularly to Hys in tombland and then Liquid… and my favourite was Time down on riverside… with the bouncy floor!
I took my kids camping a year ago in Norfolk and took them round my old stomping ground… they loved the Castle mall… and how different it is to any other shopping place they’d been to…
Did you not fancy a quick sprint down Magdalen Street and go to Anglia Square?
Some of the buildings in tombland and elm hill I think go back to the 13/1400's! Theres lots of ancient medieval buildings in the city
I know its amazing
