Book adventures are the best! My daughter and I do reading challenges - like we pick 10 books each and read all 20 over a quarter. She reads a LOT faster than me so I enjoy the rare occasions I finish first lol. You did good dad.
Thanks for sharing your trip to the bookstore and journey. The 3 novel hardback you bought is cool This is timely because we just took our granddaughter to an incredible 32 room bookstore in Columbus Ohio last week and treated her to a similar shopping experience. She looked through the fantasy, sci fi and scary section since she is a big fan of the Game Of thrones books. We were looking there and talking about Stephen King and looking through the shelves at the bottom shelf the store had a yellow label that said “ Looking for Stephen King ? , He’s RIGHT BEHIND YOU !!! “ The King books were on a different row of shelves behind us. LOL
I've been a big reader my whole life. The only Stephen King book I read was "Misery", on a flight to Spain in the 80s. It was also the only film, based on his books that I thought was well done. Yay Kathy Bates! How old is your kid? I don't have kids, but it seems impossible, these days, to shield them from anything. In the 80s, it took an hour trip to the record store in Milwaukee to randomly guess about bands that were more exciting than R.E.M. But them my mom destroyed them or drew dresses on the tape covers ...on bare chested men with long hair. ^sigh* That cover was "Dead or Alive / Nude". Hard to protect your kids from things that "Spin them right round..."
OK, you REALLY need to watch the movie The Green Mile with your son. Trust me, not only is it THE Tom Hanks classic (along with Cast Away, which is tame next to TGM), but you should NOT let him read that book, now. Watch the movie with him, and then if he wants to read the book...
Mr. Silk, Nice to see some of your other interests.( Including try to be a good Dad!) My favorite King is THE STAND and 1963. Tried reading UNDER THE DOME while simultaniously watching the miniseries. (That poor cow!!) That was just too confusing. My neice did the same thing.. and having an analytical mind like my Mom!) Keep telling me all the differances bewtween the book and the show! Which only mixed me up worse!!
The only Stephen King I ever read was Carrie. Probably because of the movie. I don't know why I never went down the King rabbit hole. Maybe because I'm heavy into science fiction.
Delores Clairborne is one of my faves....a very different genre for Mr King...and very powerful! And...a very important issue to talk about too!
Carrie's a good one to start with, with some themes that will be relevant to high school life.
i wonder whether Stephen King was also a stamp collector? that would be the icing on the cake.
Curious to see what you guys grab...!!
I really like the Dark Tower (The Gunslinger) series. I also thought Carrie was cool. Glad to see you had such a great day with your daughter.

As a huge fan of SK, I can appreciate this video! I really recommend starting the Dark Tower series. It's a fascinating journey.
