One more thing I hate about my Lexus LS600h (even though I caused it, stupid TPMS!)

    I found the 35th thing I don't like about my 2008 Lexus LS600h: the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System)
    When the system detects a fault, it will basically just give a general warning and not display anymore information about the tires' pressure. This annoys me.
    In this case it just kept giving me warning messages just because I had the wrong spare tire in the trunk. Way to make car ownership more complicated!

    TPMS has save me a couple of times when I had a slow puncture. I could not feel any difference in the handling of the car so I probably would have destroyed the tyre before I noticed. Interestingly, the last leak was caused by the seal around the TPMS module itself rather than a puncture in the tyre.

      Personally I can feel at least about 1 bar difference quite fast and pressure difference on one axle even half of that over a longer distance (like 10km).. Never really thought I'd need TPMS :P

    Nice stuff Mario,
    TPMS looks great. I think I will skip on my next car, appears to be a gigantic headache etc etc.
    What about a video about trying to drive the LS on just battery?? How far, how difficult is it get the car to stay in EV mode??
    Keep up the good work.

    Haha here in Australia, we didn't get the TMPS feature on the LS460 and LS600hL. This video makes me glad we didn't get them.
    Personally, I just periodically check and top up my pressures. Never had an issue with it 😂

      Interesting, I would have reckoned that it was standard worldwide. But some form of TPMS is has been mandatory on new cars in Europe since 2014. I guess Lexus was being a dork and complied in advance.

    Oh dear. When I started driving in the early seventies I would check the oil and tyres every Sunday. I'm sitting here trying to remember the last time I checked the 450h. ☹️

      To be honest, I never check the oil on the Lexus either. Every time I have, it was a complete waste of time - nicely near the full mark. 🤷🏻‍♂️
      Getting this complacent almost cost me the Caddy's engine. 😅

    Mario,
    Generally, having mismatched tire sizes (like incorporating a brand new spare tire among the tires that have been worn down some already) isn't healthy for the drivetrain. It can hurt your differential especially, and it can confuse the traction control (particularly on a car like this I'm sure, with an older complicated system)

  • @mitchellbarnow1709
    @mitchellbarnow1709 Рік тому

    The old fashioned systems are terrible as the light comes on only after a tire or tires is or are really and unsafely low on air! The better systems show each tire’s numerical pressure and a light can come on when you are only a little low on pressure.

    Tpms is useless hazzle. Varying Temps make them go nuts, since cold air and cold tires have lower pressure. Atleast in VW products here in the north. Toyota and Lexus fare better.

    I have tpms on my 2008 Volvo and I don't care for it. I manually check tire pressures on my other cars manually and it's fine that way.

    Do you always drive with Power mode in built up area and when you were parking the Height changed to High was that manually initiated or there is a programmable feature?

    • @swisscarguy
      @swisscarguy  Рік тому +1

      I only use power mode very selectively because I don't like its quite harsh throttle response. I always change the settings manually. I am so used to it that I will reach down to the height / power / suspension switches automatically when I am in the right condition (even when driving other cars that don't have them).

    I think you are not really a real car guy unless you cannot feel something like a 1bar difference of one tire :P One of the reasons why I don't see the need TPMS. Naturally if your car is driven by someone less abled, you should have TPMS.

    • @swisscarguy
      @swisscarguy  Рік тому

      @rkan2 To be fair on some cars it is more noticeable than on others. On soft cars like Lexus you don't really feel a lot. On my 996 Turbo, if the rears went below 2.8 bar the rear end started feeling very instable.

    • @rkan2
      @rkan2 Рік тому

      @@swisscarguy Fair enough, but I'd vaguer you'll still feel 1,5bar difference (say from 2,5bar to 1bar) even with air suspension. That is still quite safe unless you are doing more than 150km/h on some autobahn imo.

    I don't know Mario, I certainly survived without it. When I got a flat, I got a flat and no gadget could've changed that. Do I ever use or look at mine? No, I don't. Over the years I had to replace all of them which cost me and I only did it because of the annoying warning signals. It is one of these features I won't miss if I didn't have it.
