Good for you! I got a GEN 5 0311 this spring, and it is the longest and most forgiving driver I’ve ever owned! I’ve put it up against the Stealth 2 and Paradym and there’s virtually no difference! Except 300 cheaper!
This is a great example of how big of a waist of money new clubs are! I was told by a golf coach if you play 2 a week and go to the range 1 day, then you should get 10 years out of drivers and woods, and 8-10 years out of irons. He did say the only thing worth changing every other year is your wedges! The groves do wear out faster than they use to. He said just pay attention to your yardages, and if you see any fall off then time to change!
had the SIM2 MAX / PXG Gen 5 XF / PING G425 Max..sold them all...now have the STEALTH 2 HD.....and I LOVE it...i've had about 7 different drivers last 5 years and for me this is the best all around driver for me...straight high penetrating ball flight,....love the feeling and the sound....cheers from Vulcan Canada
I use the R15. Love it. I don’t make enough to justify a new driver every couple of years. Most of the clubs I have were purchased as old models on sale. 5 yards more for a club that costs $500-$600 is a hard no.
Its not really about extra yardage from the center anymore, they hit a wall, its about the forgiveness which has definitely improved since the early 2010s
@@hawkman302 Oh no definitely not for a brand new driver. But a couple year old one yeah, I got a SIM Max last year upgrading from the SLDR and it goes just as far and significantly more forgiving. I got a new shaft and now Im hitting it farther than I ever have in my life and super straight.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the R1 is all stock and the Stealth 2 is fitted, correct? If correct, get the R1 fitted with the proper shaft and spin might come down and ball speed might go up.
Recently picked up an old taylormade R7 XD driver from ~2010 and honestly it is the best driver I've ever hit. Would be interesting to see how it stacks up to newer drivers
Agree when it comes to the FIRST GEN M1 Driver. Still have mine, and have gotten rid of newer clubs as trade-ins. Not in the bag, but can't bring myself to part with it just yet.
Seen many utube comparison between older models and new drivers from almost every brand and to be totally honest the difference is almost always minimal
I bought a second hand SLDR, mainly because I thought the sliding weight would help with my slice. Seems to get a bit of stick on here. Would love to see how you would get on with one.
I think, the r1 sounds different but good! I also like the white look of them. I hate taylormade making yearly (!) new woods. Their work seems a huge story without any concept for the products but for a story to tell. I played last year with a scratch golfer - he sticked still a m2 driver and told me that there is no better one made by taylormade till today. The SIM2 maybe is also a really good one. Nevertheless one day i will own a fairway wood by taylormade, maybe a stealth plus.... But first James i wait for the set of mizunos you will bring to a bulky waste soon because of your change to the PXGs! Have a nice weekend!
Spin, Spin, Spin, Spin, Spin! It is the #1 factor in driving distance. Sure, launch angle and ball speed are important...but spin is consistently the differentiating factor in distance performance.
For men…What about Kalea for women? Someone said the Kalea was a Sim 2 with a different shaft, is that true? I love my Kalea irons but haven’t hit the driver.
New clubs! Today hire clubs were about 9 years old. If I hadn't dumped my greenside bunker shot into the water on the 18th I would of broken 80 round the royal greens Saudi and the temperature was 41c.
I have watched a ton these comparison videos and nobody uses same shaft in both. Is it because they would go the same distance? And the powers that be frown upon it?
The comparison of the R1 and the Stealth, made me think of James' journey from his first video to now. That first video, was, well .......just watch it. The point being, without the first video, we wouldn't have the "stealth" videos that he provides today!
TaylorMade's own MOI data graph shows that the SIM line of Drivers had higher MOI than the Stealth. I am not so sure that the Stealth was the best of that decade.
10 yards is about 1 iron. Over 10 years of “advancement” not impressed by that. And wouldn’t make me switch clubs. The forgiveness would. But definitely not that minimal type of distance gain.
Wouldn't a better example of a comparison be the Stealth 2 v SIM 2. Obviously people still do play with an R1 so they would be interested BUT really? I'm in the market to replace my Ping G15 Driver. I'm not going to replace it with a 10 yr old driver. I'm more interested in the newest models, whether Ping or Callaway or Titleist or Taylor Made etc etc v's their previous two models that I could pick up for at least £200 less.
Sure the r 1 was harder to hit. But the head ten years later is still in one peace. How many stealths heads have you cracked or broke. Lets see how many you shatter in ten years. Peter has already broke two of them. If I spend that much on a new driver it better hold up for more then the warranty
Does Chris ever golf with Gary Martin? James never has those two guys on together at the same time. They seem like they could be brothers. It would be fun to watch, especially giving James a hard time.
Is the face of your Stealth peeling or falling out yet? Peter Finch now has 2 Stealth drivers with defective club faces. Here's the video. FFWD to 15:23 ua-cam.com/video/D6h7ArOsVWU/v-deo.html
I think your not the best person to showcase the difference as you hit the middle the majority if the time where the results are way closer... The average person that misses middle most of the time would see much greater performance differences... E.g. the forgiveness of the newer clubs is waaaay better...
OMG you made another video about my sh*tty driver. I'm literally on my way to a PXG driver fitting hahaha

@@craciunator99 fair assessment. I still wouldn’t spend that money just to hit straighter.

I think the SIM2 was their best driver!
M1!
100%
Good morning from Central Alberta...love the older driver comparisons. I'm a Driver magpie.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the R1 is all stock and the Stealth 2 is fitted, correct? If correct, get the R1 fitted with the proper shaft and spin might come down and ball speed might go up.
Didn’t Callaway have a Carbon driver n 2001?
Recently picked up an old taylormade R7 XD driver from ~2010 and honestly it is the best driver I've ever hit. Would be interesting to see how it stacks up to newer drivers
I’ve got one of the OG M2 drivers and think it goes well, but I’ve never stuck it on track man against my current driver
I have had each TM driver for the last 6 years...IMHO the M5 was the best. Much better than the SIMs and the Stealths.
I’d say you smash the ball pretty well pretty consistently and pretty much out of the middle. Most of us don’t. Most of us cannot use the R1
Agree when it comes to the FIRST GEN M1 Driver. Still have mine, and have gotten rid of newer clubs as trade-ins. Not in the bag, but can't bring myself to part with it just yet.
I have a black R1. Best driver I ever bought. I have it since 2013 and won't change it. I love it. The Black one is lovely to look at.
God I hated that driver
£100 for the R1, £500 for the stealth 2. That's 400 quid to spend on the therapy you'll need to get over the sound and feel of the R1.

I have the first stealth driver and I love it 😊well done James 👏
My favorite TM driver was the 2007 burner. I did not have the $$ to venture into the more expensive m1 and sim drivers
Spin, Spin, Spin, Spin, Spin! It is the #1 factor in driving distance. Sure, launch angle and ball speed are important...but spin is consistently the differentiating factor in distance performance.

I've had Taylormade drivers since the bubble shaft, R7s, M2, SLDR and none of them have driven the ball farther than my Titleist 917D
I have watched a ton these comparison videos and nobody uses same shaft in both. Is it because they would go the same distance? And the powers that be frown upon it?

Love the head to head, I do miss my Sim 2 but I also enjoy my TSR 2
TaylorMade's own MOI data graph shows that the SIM line of Drivers had higher MOI than the Stealth. I am not so sure that the Stealth was the best of that decade.
Please try out the Stealth against the Jetspeed Driver.
M2 both versions were the best Taylormade drivers
The RBZ tour and Jetspeed were both bombers
10 yards is about 1 iron. Over 10 years of “advancement” not impressed by that. And wouldn’t make me switch clubs. The forgiveness would. But definitely not that minimal type of distance gain.
Ive just upgraded from that r1 to the sim2 max
The M2 is TM best driver they made
My golf buddy has the R1 and he wouldn't change for anything.
9 yards not much, I thought TMs worst driver was the aero burner
Wouldn't a better example of a comparison be the Stealth 2 v SIM 2. Obviously people still do play with an R1 so they would be interested BUT really? I'm in the market to replace my Ping G15 Driver. Completely disagree on the best driver. SIM or SIM2.
M1!
The R1 ruined my game in the prime of high school competition….
Sure the r 1 was harder to hit. But the head ten years later is still in one peace. How many stealths heads have you cracked or broke. Lets see how many you shatter in ten years. Peter has already broke two of them. If I spend that much on a new driver it better hold up for more then the warranty
I never want to hit that driver again!
The r1 has a shorter shaft than the new drivers today, it's not going to be as long, but it will be more accurate
2017 m2 still best I think
For me M1!
especially with how new i am, i wouldnt really buy either. If i had to choose though, I would buy the Stealth 2
R1 tp was excellent
Youre proving how pointless the new drivers really are
Have a chat to Peter Finch, the carbon face keeps falling out of the Stealth
M1 is still my favorite TM driver
Cobra F9....still my favorite.
Tell me when the driver will outlast the warranty
Does Chris ever golf with Gary Martin? James never has those two guys on together at the same time. They seem like they could be brothers. It would be fun to watch, especially giving James a hard time.
Think it was Henry Ford, not Tom Ford that said that lol
I thought mini driver was the best? 🤔
Compare that old driver to driver that even older and see if it does better
Had a original M2 but was finding it spin too much trading up 5 years to a rad and its def hotter even if I’ve lost speed
For me it’s the Ping G 425
So after 10 years of companies saying this driver is longer and straighter there is virtually no difference.
Problem is try to find a brand new R1 like this one! The ones we’d find in used shops will all have dead faces!

Worst driver ever used with Was the sasquatch driver it was sounded bad look bad didn't perform well
Fargiveness
First👌
The SLDR was their WORST driver! Not even the pro’s could hit that one straight!
Its their best one for faces falling off 😊
No way I'm buying the 2013 Taylormade driver!🐊🏌🦅🇺🇸⛳️
