Hello unconventionals!! Nice info. This is one of the reasons why lots of us retire in our homeland. I've been living in states for almost 40 years and I have paid my taxes and SS contributions ever since. If I stay in Long Island NY, I won't be able to live with my retiring SS money. This is why we go back. I'm gonna miss NY for sure.
Friend grew up in Long Island. Her parents moved to CT when they retired. Were able to afford a 3bedroom house with a pool and garage!
I made a video of my trip to Mindo. It’s just the Humminbirds so far. Ecuador was awesome. The people were gracious and kind. The vibe was relaxing. I can’t wait to come back.

Wow! Those were great homes! I think I choose #2 as it is furnished and the terrace is so big and the view is lovely! Thanks for going to this effort of showing more affordable living possibilities. The house is super as well...though no view and a little farther from the beach.
Housing prices in Canada are crazy too. It's always been high in Vancouver and Toronto, but now prices are going up everywhere.

Great rent prices compared to the US . However, let's keep in mind that the minimum wage in Ecuador is around $400-450 a month.

@Evral Tatum-Mcfield I think it is a natural tendency to overcharge expats who either don't speak Spanish or speak Spanish with an foreign accent. The ideal would be to talk with the locals to get a sense of what they pay for rent.
That minimum wage is the same in other countries as well, like in China.. many people survive with less than that per month.
These rentals are much better in quality and value than the budget ones you guys showed in Olon.

I have some other locations I was going to buy properties in, however, most of the countries changed their visa credentials and money on hand. Honestly, never truly considered Ecuador but it definitely puts it at the top of the list. Thank you!

These rentals are very impressive! Two bedrooms for $400 - that’s half of what I’m paying in Portugal for one bedroom *without* an ocean view! You have my attention! (And I already speak Spanish!)
That's a big difference. What are average prices in Portugal (North, Central and South)? Is it increasing?
@@donh5794 It’s hard to talk about averages. It depends on location. I’m in ‘The Algarve’ which is the southern strip of the country including the Mediterranean beachfront. Prices are higher here, but much more so if you’re right along the coast with a view of the water, or in one of the more popular resort communities.
In the same way, the big cities on the Atlantic coast, Lisbon and Porto, are much more expensive. I could never afford there what I have here. But you can find both rentals and places for sale both in the Algarve and along the Atlantic coast for quite reasonable prices, if you’re willing to live in a smaller town or a more rural area and travel to the cities and other parts of the country on occasion.
Right now, because of COVID, if you can manage the paperwork, is probably a good time to buy. I’m no prophet, but I’d guess prices are poised to go up once the pandemic subsides.
@@jonathanjordahl5345 Thanks for the information. The Algarve is usually described as expensive among most media reports. You gave a much clearer overall description. I believe you are right that prices will increase there in Portugal as the pandemic reduces. Surprisingly, the rental and home prices in the U.S. has increased a lot already last year and this year.
This was definitely one of your better videos with very useful information. I am in Ecuador and have been looking at houses and apartments in Guayaquil, The Peninsular, and Cuenca and I must say that I have not seen anything that offers better overall value-for-money, so that has greatly increased my interest in Manta.

How about short term rentals 3 to 6 months? If you can do a video on this that would be great. Also, talk or show the private hospital with web site and if they are joint internationally accredited. What are the main greocery stores - any big chain stores?

I came to study Spanish in Manta in December 2019 so I explored the city . It was tough to find a bar or restaurant to watch the Chi Bears...I ended up in the Mall. I liked Manta but found a more interesting area in Puerto Lopez. A smaller town yes, but beaches were better. I'm lookin to make an extended stay I hope in spring 2023. Cheers !

Wow. Really nice rentals!!! I was in Ecuador, in the mountains at a retreat that use to be a place where nuns lived. I don't remember the name of it. It was pretty run down. I went there to do Ayahuasca!! I loved the night sky. I never saw so many stars in my life!! It was near Vilcabamba.

I liked all those rentals. The second one is my favorite but after the condo collapse in Florida, I'm a little leary of living in a building over 2 stories.

South American contruction is not the same as Florida. They build with concrete and rebar because of the earthquakes, much like California. I live in Peru and we get many tremors and quakes here and my home is pretty safe.
Lots of great videos on city living. Can you please do a video on cost of country living? We want to live just outside of town on some acreage with our horses, dogs and chickens. ❤️❤️

On computer watching this video and my wife gets a text from her mom in Manta, Grecia, saying that her friend Stella was in a video. (Stella walks with Grecia on the beach every morning.) My wife clicks the link in the text and it is the same video I am watching. Sure enough, Stella pops up like 20 seconds later. We died laughing at the timing of her getting that text while I was watching the video at the same time. What are the chances of that? Small world. Love the videos...they make us smile up here in Jacksonville, Florida.

I know you guys might think that it’s the dream but the salary of a regular worker goes from 400 to 500 max, if it’s not an profesional career, profesional careers goes from 800 and up. So you can figure out why it’s kinda cheap for you guys.

Tell them the food is great and so variated.. beach town are amazing views, Ecuador also got highlands n breath taking mountains, (check for pictures on the internet) and more people are learning English due tourists and outsoursing companies. Before moving in, try a first time trip kind of thing that way you guys can take a decision with your spouse.

When I saw your last videos about rentals, I was quite crestfallen, as they were way beyond my sparse budget, but those 2 first apartments for $350-400 are absolutely up my (financial) alley. I'll be over by mid-March, and would love to contact your agent (couldn't understand her name properly) a couple of weeks prior to that, to see what's (still) available.

Such a great value compared to the US coastal rentals. Here in Huntington Beach, CA. That would be about $3,500 + month for a 2 bed that close the water. I Love the channel and hope to live in Ecuador someday.

Love your videos. Having been born in the Galapagos islands in 1955, I have been wanting to return to Ecuador to explore the country.
Galápagos is so beautiful, it always was but now is better prepared for tourism, i went there 5 years ago. Its a whole archipiélago full of islands, it's amazing every island has its own atraction, for example theres an airport that the whole island is just the airport. Sea lions r so used to ppl, u dont pet them or feed them tho. Blue footed birds n pelicans. N the iguanas oh man.. they come in all sizes n colors. The are a lot of scientists from all over the world to study the local species. And what personally impressed me the most was to see their beach shores, black old dry lava just setting there, when u stand there and look at them n u get the feeling that island was formed only few days ago, when its been thousands of years but somehow it looks like a brand new place.

Thank you very much. Isn't it a mistake to compare with the US ? Where I live, the rent is around 950$, but some people live in metal houses for 50$, in very poor condition for us but correct for them. Such a guilty feeling difference !
