Lot of the buildings in the US are not all that great in terms of quality anyway. I live in San Francisco they have a new condo in Bernal Height neighborhood no bedroom just a studio, no furniture included, no AC, no parking lot, no balcony and no washer and dryer either and they want $ 750,000 for it. Beautiful condos! It's always nice to see luxury stuff. I guess the only thing that makes me hesitate is that the selling points for those three seem to be locations next to "luxury" shopping, or restaurants. The condos, at least to me, appear to represent so much of what we are looking to escape from . Regardless of that rant, thank you for the video and best of luck to that gentlemen and his business!
Good Evening tmcdon, the great thing about the area is that you are still just a short distance from some of the best "mom and pop" places to eat and socialize as well. Manta has the best of both worlds so it is a great place to visit!
@@EcuadorShoresRealty doesn't seem sustainable. All that luxury and wealth next to so much poverty. Invaders from the north transforming their country and they become second class citizens. @@counterflow5719 thank you for your comment, but it is a big misconception that the "invaders from the North" as you put it are the majority buyers of beachfront high-rises etc. Truth is that it is still the majority wealthy Ecuadorians purchasing most of the real estate here. Love JP and Amelia, but this dude seems to cater to rich gringos who have large dollars (for me that is $250K plus) to buy a property that is less in Ecuador than the USA or enough retirement income that can cover $2k/month in rent. Anything for regular people?
Agree. I don't think I would invest that much money in a country where a local cannot get close to paying half of the selling price of these condos. You are limiting your market to "gringos" only and that is simply not a good business decision. I would prefer to invest $250k in a property in a safer market like the US, rent if for around $1,500 to $2k and just live or rent in Ecuador. I wouldn't buy in Ecuador for more than $35k - $50k.
I agree - this is not what I’m looking for. I would just stay in the US if I wanted to have the same lifestyle. I think it’s a bad idea to export lavish American high rises to another country and expect the locals to be ok with us showing up to use their land to have some high roller lifestyle we couldn’t have afforded back home. It just doesn’t sit well with me. If I move to Ecuador, I intend to embrace their way of life, not force my culture onto them.
The 1200 sq foot condo is the same sq footage as my house, and the same monthly rental price as my mortgage. But who can beat luxury beach living? This makes me wanna move asap!
I love Manta. Going to be there in August. I know the prices are great but am wondering what it looks like NOT to live in luxury. Say a more normal apartment complex. Under 700.
Exactly this! I want to live in a different culture and enjoy a more minimalist way of life. If I wanted to live in an American style high rise resort, I’d just stay here.
Amelia & JP- have watched several of your videos, subscribed and have much appreciation for your work. Regarding this video, just watched 5 minutes because the properties seem "too American" 😂😂 for me. When I move down there, I'll be looking for a place with few expats and a more "Ecuadorian feel" to it. Thanks again, it seems you 2 have all the answers about Ecuador!
Hi, love the video. Thanks for all the feedback on the condos. I have thought of relocating to Florida cause it's a tax-free state; nevertheless, I never considered my parent's native country an option. Neatly to say my mother was born in Manabi and never have gone to visit, you guys gave me a free tour of her birthplace. thanks a million. As a New Yorker, I agree that this state's cost of living is way too high.
You guys make absolutely very good wholesome videos chock full of information. I'm living in California now originally from New Jersey. I lived in the Philippines for 15 years but that place is going a little bit bonkers. I wanted to teach some English if I decided to move there just for a little extra money, but when I read that you only get between $4 and $4.50 an hour, well that's just not acceptable to me. But I still like watching your videos!
Amelia and JP: Thank you for your wonderful videos. I wanted to tell you if you haven't already seen this... I am a nutrition student. I learned that vitamin Niacin is used in Medical nutrition therapy to lower cholesterol including LDL and to lower triglycerides. I don't know the amounts. You would have to research that but I hope that can help JP.
High cholesterol runs in my family and my cholesterol is naturally very high. My cardiologist suggested taking niacin nearly 40 years ago and I've been taking what is considered high doses of it (2,000mg) ever since. When I first started taking it I got a flushing feeling that many people don't like and they stop taking it because of that. That flushing feeling only lasts for a couple of weeks though and I can confirm that niacin does work.
Hey I was in Cuenca a few weeks ago. Met with Maite. Opened my JEP account and rented a 2 bedroom in the historic district. I’ll be back in June for a month. Hope to visit the coast then and “run” into you guys
Love your channel. The style of these few videos with Ryan have been great. My only hesitation with Manta is just how far it is from a major airport (for availability to family or access back to the US). Is that fear of mine overblown or would looking more towards Guayaquil be more in-line with checking off those boxes? Keep up the great work!
Manta has several flights a day from Quito and Guayaquil. It looks like there will be a flight from Panama City where many US/Canadian flights stop anyway.
Evening Cole, yes Jim is correct in that Manta does fly to Quito and it's only about a 35min flight so easy to do. The new international terminal at the Manta airport is now open and it does have a customs division as well. Through our contacts we have heard that they are currently talking with Copa Airlines out of Panama and LaTameout of South Florida to make flights directly. Very happy you have enjoyed the videos and we are always here to help!
I need to clarify. The flights from Guayaquil are not nonstop they connect through Quito. So you would be better off flying into Quito and then to Manta.
I think your home in Olon is a much better deal. But Manta is looking really good. Modern and very clean. I just don’t see many restaurants with Vegan/Vegetarian options. Thanks for all your work.
You can start one!! Create your vegetarian restaurant for your investor visa.. You can also buy masa madre bread there which is sourdough and full of protein.. and vegan. There are options for you.. lots of organic fresh fruit and vegetables here. Many Ecuadorians also get into kombucha too.
@@MermaidMoney thanks but I am not looking to start or run a business. When I make the move it is to be retired and catch a meal out 3-4 times per week. It looks like plenty of good options for fresh fruit and vegetables for fixing meals at home. I am as surprised by how many options are available in Montanita/Olon as I am by how few are available in Manta. I have menu’s for at least 12 restaurants with vegan/vegetarian options in Montanita/Olon and only about 5 in the much larger Manta area. But other than that item I think Manta has more of what I am looking for.
That $700 unit still looked extremely nice and plenty big for me. I am thinking about taking an extended vacation (6+ months) and renting something in that price range seems good to me. My current rent in the middle of the desert is $1000 a month, so $300 less a month for a such a cool area is appealing.
Yeah I'd choose the $1400 Mykonos unit too. I love tennis; would be on that court everyday. Squash is another option; played it once and was very tired afterwards. It's a fast paced game and you really need to be fit to play it. Tennis is much better.
OMG great vidio !!! I'm tempted to disappear from my family. It's amazing that I could just take my social security check and live so wonderfully. But of course I have to come back to reality and know that I have two kids in college and they need Dad to be available. Shoot !! It's all about timing. Anyway, my youngest daughter and I are taking an exploratory trip during the last two weeks of May. Our first week is going to be in Olon but we definitely plan on taking at least a day trip or an overnight trip to Manta. The second week we're going to be in Cuenca.
Thanks . How many cities have you visited? All of the large to medium ones? We would be interested in a small cottage with some land for a garden. Just basic and not fancy to rent of buy. Maybe a few miles from a city that has good cultural options for the weekend. Music festivals, nice large public swimming pool.etc. Please create a post of these locations if you have not. Many people do not want a high-rise.:)
You two are seriously got me thinking 🤔. Currently living in Puerto Vallarta. Visas are in question and I doubt I qualify for permanent residency, even though my SSI is 2,250/month. Next year an additional . 059% more.
Excellent Video!! Thank you. We would only be able to afford $700 or less per mo. (while keeping our other house in Calif) so will look for a video with cheaper places (Not that these aren't we are just poor) if you get around to it. We'd love to live somewhere else half time. Especially if it's $500 a month with room service, leaving a few hundred for that. I fear I may become ill and need that service. You both are great, thx again
Can some of these condo apartments be rented for 6 months rather than a year lease? I know some people that would love to leave the the U.S. in the winter and have something like this without buying furniture.
Good Evening Ketty, yes of course many condos in the area may be rented for long term or short term, whichever you prefer. Some buildings do have rules about the length of rentals as some try to shy away from the nightly rentals, so just depends on your desired length of stay and you can easily find something to suit:)
Thanks for covering this topic, and Manta appears to be a great destination for holiday or retirement with the beautiful weather and scenic views. Being an avid cyclist, I can appreciate that the weather with less rainfall and mild temperatures would be great. Can you give some insight about the roads or highways nearby. I am assuming that you could ride off road along the beach or on trails but I am curious if the coastal or interior roads would be suitable for cycling long distances. I assuming that the locals would be recreational cyclists as well Thanks in advance!
Good Evening Jim, the good news is that cycling has become very popular around the area and the city has even been installing bike lanes to make it easier and safer! As you head South outside the city you have some beautiful highways along the coast to ride, and an avid cycling community to meet new friends. We also have some great bike shops with gear and repair techs too. Hope that helps!
I would like to know the name and more information about the business you advertised where I can work teaching English or Spanish online. Thank you so much for all the information that you are gathering and sharing with us. I'm planning to go to Ecuador with my wife of 51 years pretty soon. Greetings.
Love your nice short videos - I tried to watch one that was live and almost an hour and a half. No way. Being shown around by a realtor seems like a nice way to get a free tour. He sounds like an smooth American salesman though. I would prefer a local realtor. That rental in the 1st Hotel upstairs worked out to $23 per day. Those next ones were so generic/ with zero evidence you are in South America - could just as easily be modern US. Hmm,wonder why no oven. Maybe get an air fryer!
A thoughtful video that provides some ideas on living in Manta - however - it's a bit of a contradiction to the video in which you present a Social Security based budget for living in Ecuador. It would be nice to see you cover rentals that are more local-based, perhaps not in high-rises, that speak to real life living as an expat (which I've done for nearly 9 years). In my experience, when you take the time to get to know the area you want to live in you can find better pricing and sometimes: downright bargains. Keep posting - your videos are quite informative. Thank you.
So if a person was wanting to rent a more upscale 2 bedroom condo & going in 1/2 with a roommate allowing both to cut rent in 1/2 there. How easy & what resources would you use to find a good compatible roomy ?
The dollar figures mentioned are American dollars? Also The Mykonos featured was a 2 bedroom$1300 dollars. What would a 1 bedroom, 1 bath unit in the Mykonos cost?
Yes, Ecuador is on the US Dollar. It's very difficult to find one bedrooms in Ecuador because most of these properties are built for and bought by Ecuadorians who have large families. I don't think there are any one bedrooms in that building.
From what I can discern from weather data, it appears Manta is predominantly cloudy November- April? It does not seem to be a good winter (sunny) getaway destination from the colder parts of the US.
Good Afternoon Carlos, so the weather in Manta is still usually beautiful even during winter! Our area gets more sunshine than most other areas along the coast and the temperatures are usually around 60's-70's with maybe a few low 80 days thrown in, so not a bad winter at all haha:)
Good Afternoon @mshore , prices for purchase of course depends on what you are looking for and other deciding factors, however you can find nice condos ranging from $95k-$600k so something for everyone. The great thing is that a condo that you would find on even the inter-coastal of Miami that would set you back $500k or more, you can probably grab for half that down here and be directly on the beach:) Plus you don't have the super high HOA fees or thousands in property taxes down here like you do in Miami. The vast majority of our clients are pleasantly surprised with how affordable these condos are on the beach here, especially when compared to other areas like South Florida. Any other questions feel free to ask!
Good Evening @mamaly90210 these are all the total prices but it is always good rule of thumb to ask before signing something. For short term nightly rentals you shouldn't have any additional expenses normally, but if you are renting long term then you will probably want to budget/ask about water and electricity. Any other questions feel free to ask!
@@EcuadorShoresRealty How about internet? I will be traveling in Ecuador doing the Vlog/You Tube thing, so I will need internet that has at least 10-20Mb up and down. Is that common, exotic, impossible, or what?
@@davidc1961utube it really depends on where you will be traveling, but today many of the larger cities all have fiber optic and reliable internet service. Most basic services we have seen should get you 20mb so I would assume you should be ok. If you are planning on renting in an area for a longer stay then many times you can ask the landlord to increase your wifi speed and agree to pay the difference in cost, usually pretty cheap. Hope that helps and we wish you the best!

If I move to Ecuador, I intend to embrace their way of life, not force my culture onto them.
The 1200 sq foot condo is the same sq footage as my house, and the same monthly rental price as my mortgage. But who can beat luxury beach living? This makes me wanna move asap!
Yes, but you sell your house, invest the equity and then move down there and live in the lap of luxury.
@@sirgalahad1470 Sounds good to me!
Work on your spanish and you are set
I love Manta. Going to be there in August. I know the prices are great but am wondering what it looks like NOT to live in luxury. Say a more normal apartment complex. Under 700.
Exactly this! I want to live in a different culture and enjoy a more minimalist way of life. If I wanted to live in an American style high rise resort, I’d just stay here.
Cuenca fully furnished on a river gated community $400. 3/3 patio, barbecue, hot tub in master bathroom
many individual apartments and other studios my sister in law in Manta found us studio with loft on the beach $350/month
You can find places from $90 per month all over Ecuador.
Loved this video!! Thank you both!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I actually liked them all
Hi, love the video.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the tours.
Any time!
Great information! TY guys!!
Our pleasure!
Take the highest apt at Myconos! It's awesome!
Hey I was in Cuenca a few weeks ago. Met with Maite. Opened my JEP account and rented a 2 bedroom in the historic district. I’ll be back in June for a month. Hope to visit the coast then and “run” into you guys
Great!
Thank you ..That was awesome
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your channel.
I liked your videos, talking about my beautiful Ecuador. I live in NJ. U.S.A 🤗❤
Awesome! Thank you!
Amelia and JP, what beaches would you recommend for learning how to surf and safe swimming?
Awesome video !! Are you guys going to do one on Montecristi and the golf club ? I don't want to just be an expat, I want to be a golfing expat lol
Number 3 is just right!😁
That $700 unit still looked extremely nice and plenty big for me. I am thinking about taking an extended vacation (6+ months) and renting something in that price range seems good to me. My current rent in the middle of the desert is $1000 a month, so $300 less a month for a such a cool area is appealing.
Go for it!
I requested. Amelia and JP delivered. Thank You, so much.
Our pleasure!
Don’t forget to visit Playa de los Frailes, and maybe snorkel at Isla de la plata. Recommended
I am ready to pack my bags now
Great tour .Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi folks nice to take part of your lives. Do you have any information about salinas? Thank you for your updates
We recorded several videos in Salinas in 2019: ua-cam.com/users/AmeliaAndJPsearch?query=salinas
hotel condo! cool! invite the vacationers up to the condo for a Partae' !
Great video 👍
Thanks 👍
Awesome! I just subscribed!
Awesome! Welcome aboard!
Thank you so much, I will definitely let them know.
I assuming that the locals would be recreational cyclists as well
Thanks in advance!
I would prefer a beach tiny house in a small semi undeveloped town. Do they exist, or are all beaches built up?
Thank you.
Saludo desde Galápagos ecuador
guaoo thanks guys you're doing something great ,,for my country ,,greetings from Manta one day maybe we cross each other hehehe (y)
Maybe one day!
So if a person was wanting to rent a more upscale 2 bedroom condo & going in 1/2 with a roommate allowing both to cut rent in 1/2 there. How easy & what resources would you use to find a good compatible roomy ?
Love your videos guys!! QUESTION: What is the minimum you can usually rent for? 6mos? or a year?
Nice condos, say, could you tells us about the home properties at the Mirador San José which is located near Manta?
Does the Mykonos complex have one bedroom apartments? Can you provide a link please?
Did the Poseidon apartment have a full kitchen?
Great video but the question is what is the weather like in the winter. Is it miserable?
Good Afternoon Carlos, so the weather in Manta is still usually beautiful even during winter! Our area gets more sunshine than most other areas along the coast and the temperatures are usually around 60's-70's with maybe a few low 80 days thrown in, so not a bad winter at all haha:)
@@EcuadorShoresRealty Thank you for the info.
Can you please tell me if dogs require quarantine if you're bringing them to Equador for a month long holiday? If so - for how long? Many thanks!
No quarantine required:)
Thanks for the video. Prices for your guest's rentals seem quite exorbitant for Ecuador.
After watching this video, I've changed my mind...lol :)
So what all does that $700 condo in the Poseidon actually include does it include utilities water electric gas heating AC etc.
Wow nice but very expensive
What are the purchase prices? Seems like the rental prices are a little high. We're still in Ecuador, not Miami.
Without central heat and air, how do they avoid mold problems down there?
what would be the purchase price for these units versus rent price?
un abrazo
@Amelia & JP, I have a question, are these the total prices or it’s rent + HOA fees ?
Will appreciate your reply.
@@EcuadorShoresRealty Thanks!
@@davidc1961utube you are always welcome!
Hi I hope my post finds you in the best of health, I really like listening to your videos, i wish to thank you for the content you provide, I am hoping to retire to Ecuador With my wife, I like the Santorini, my question it could be within our budget if we don't need a car, we also don't dine out very often and not much of a drinker it also depends on the other cost that we would need to meet on a monthly basis ,question do you know if it includes Hydro, water, gas ? any information you have on the area would be appreciated sweetings blessings to the two of you GW
