    Hope you find this video helpful! Right nostril correlates with sympathetic, left nostril with parasympathetic. Relevant research article links available in the description.

      Me too, left side constricted. And at night both nostrils block up, so I end up breathing through my mouth. Have put the head end of my bed a bit higher but apparently not high enough and higher is impossiblecause as I sleep on my side. Only thing that helps is sit up for about 10 minutes till the mucus gets loose and comes out through the back/throat. After half an hour it's blocked up again

By the way to get to the rest and digest state, I use Dr Andrew Weil’s 4-7-8 breathing technique wherein you inhale through your nostrils for a count of 4, hold for a count of 7 and exhale through pursed lips for a count of 8 and repeat as required. Your instruction is kind of similar but without the “hold for 7” bit.

    I had a severely deviated septum, that mean my right nostril was never dominant. I was pretty chilled out, and sleeping 8 hours without waking up was very easy. The only downsides were I'd have to blow my nose a lot, and I'd gasp for air and switch to mouth-breathing very early into a run. Who knows? Maybe it also made me lazier, because I didn't get stressed very often, or I didn't allow myself to get stressed. Since I had a septoplasty two months ago, I've been waking in the middle of the night and experiencing real anxiety like never before, so this is very interesting to look into for me.

I've tested a few times and I'm sure about this. Now I do have a slightly deviated septum, but it seems to me that if I can breathe through my left nostril at night, I can do it during the day as well. That leads me to believe I'm spending too much time in fight or flight. Does that seem accurate to you?

      If you're experiencing differences in airflow between nostrils or suspect nasal asymmetry due to scoliosis, it's advisable to consult with a specialist. They can assess your situation, provide a proper diagnosis, and recommend appropriate interventions or treatments.

      Usually it's the opposite, right side sleeping will promote left nostril, but everyone is different.

    Does deviated septum have to do with the nasal cycle?

    • @YOGABODY.Official
      @YOGABODY.Official  2 роки тому

      Deviated septum is extremely common, if it's severe the test just won't work. Better to ignore it.

      @@YOGABODY.Official It is hard to sleep at night due to my right nostril being blocked. It is terrible. It is so hard to ignore it. Because it happens everyday when I go at night to sleep.

      @@YOGABODY.Official The nose , ear and throat specialist did check me with a tickling nose instrument and said I didn't need surgery. He told me it was the nasal cycle. It was normal. He didn't told me nothing about the deviated septum. But I do notice one nostril smaller than the other. And the smaller one to my right gets blocked more than the bigger one to my left when I lie down in bed on my stomach. He even looked at both of my nostrils. I do remember years ago getting hit hard a couple of times on the nose with a basketball with some guy passing me the ball quite hard and fast. Don't know if that affected me?

    I am at a disadvantage right off as the opening in my left nostril is smaller than my right nostril. My dentist brought this to my attention a couple of years ago. Not sure how to address this

      Hello Tori - if your dentist made note, I would go see an ENT and see what you can learn. Sometimes there are very simple solutions.

    How absolute is this?

      @YOGABODY.Official  2 роки тому

      Not absolutely at all, just one of many ways to check in with yourself and get some insight. For many people, maybe even 80%, it can be pretty accurate.

    My body feels tingly all the time… but my left nostril is free and clear… why do I still feel awful?

    I can't see how that quick nasal test would tell you anything about that ..we can have blocked nostrils at any time through a cold or no cold .I get blocked nostrils often on one side and blowing it often clears it ..not always..but I don't see how this test can have any solidity to at all ...

    Seems odd that you inhale through both and exhale through only one.
