  • THIS VIDEO CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR KINGDOM DEATH MONSTER EXPANSIONS!
    Kingdom Death: Monster is a very large game. Starting a new campaign can be confusing. I suggest doing a session zero with your group before playing. In the future, more expansion will only make this more complex. Hopefully, this video can help.
    Let's have some fun and express our opinions. These are my opinions and could be wrong. I am trying to have fun, joke around, and not be too serious. I understand this update is good and bad for many in the KDM fan base.

    I am sorry for the audio, it sounds slightly pitched?? I think my render settings may have been off, it did not sound like this while editing. I apologize.

    Every time I start a new settlement I look at the settlement sheet. Then I pull out the monster rulebooks I want to play with, read the instructions in the beginning and add to the settlement sheet. Then I take out the disorders and innovations and FAs I'm not using (I know most don't do that), then have all of the white box content in play unless it has the red hand. If I come across it and it doesn't fit I skip. I also play with the CCG hunt event taro card style cards so that's always drawn at from a deck. It really doesn't take that long to organize all the decks at the beginning, it's really just removing what you are not using. Honestly it takes about 30 mins. Then once we play all the monster decks are in the core box so it's just taking out that chunk and playing, once I'm setting up a monster I can just remove stuff from there when I am playing.
    Obv if a new player got an everything all in one it'd be confusing, it's just a matter of staying organized and organizing while playing. I think for a new player I'd recommend starting with the individual rule books of what monsters you want to include, then loading up a settlement sheet, maybe re.ove a monster if there is too much stuff on one year and go from there. Really KDM boils down to time, how much time do you have to play and run through campaigns to learn by failure, there is no perfect way to play. I think recommended you want to play with limited monsters and add ins to avoid deck bloat and being able to get the resources you want in a game.

      Yeah, deck bloat is my number one issue as well. KDM for sure is a balancing act of time investment. Could not agree more.

    This video is absolutely invaluable. More like this please!
    This will be an evergreen video that people will watch for years.
    The more videos you can put out that help people to actually play the better

    I really feel like this video could have benefited from some post editing and overlays. Some graphics to show and compare what you're talking about would have helped a lot.
    You know the game inside and out, when when you don't and you're just sitting there listening to you listing everything it is very hard to keep up and understand what you're talking about. Still a very helpful video and thanks for putting in the time.

      I have thought about this and I will return to this video when Frogdog arrives. In that video I will not include outliers like White Boxes and such. I will do a much more focuses "how the systems work together" video. While I was editing it also thought about cutting out the stuff with me explain how I am building my season 6 campaign. I did not want to do that because then I would just need to explain it again in season adding 20 min to a video from that season. It is a hard balancing act to find ways to shorten KDM videos without cutting rules explanations. I will return to this topic once again, thank you for the comment.

    I own everything, and I don't know why the idea of separating everything by monster never came to me. Thank you I'm gonna go do this right now, this should make creating a campaign a billion times easier and will even inform my custom storage.

      @BraMithra  Місяць тому +1

      I want to save Atnas for a campaign with out smog singers. He will be included in the Frogdog campaign. (Yes, I will likely need to run season 6 and 7 beside one another.)

    I do usually prefer to keep fighting arts, disorders etc all in as I like the variety, but I try and play the intended experience at least once.

      For sure! I am not telling others how the game should be played, as I mention there are no official rules yet. This is just what I have been doing. I also like to know that when I do include a monster the FA and stuff will also feel fresh.

      @BraMithra oh wow. I didn't expect a reply from the man himself.
      I think it makes sense lore wise, to only use the ones from the expansions you're using. But I'm just a weirdo. Wasn't throwing shade at all.

      Yeah, the whole situation is also confusing to me at times, lol. This was meant to show how difficult it can be, how to do it, and how my season 6 is set up. I can alter the title to more clearly state that this is meant for players who own lots of things.

      This video actully makes it seem more complicated then it needs to be. But at the same time he is talking about stuff from everything. If you have just core and expansions your just swapping out monsters. Basically. If your a new player your not going to be making a custom campaign anyways especially useing everything from gamblers, the rule books tell you what to do with new cards well enough. As you play you will know later if you want to separate things or just keep all cards in there stacks.

    • @Rekkless
      @Rekkless Місяць тому +1

      As people have said, if you're new just play the core box. Twice and make sure you at least defeat the Watcher 1 time. Then slowly add stuff, replace a monster with an expansion monster like swap the White Lion with Gorm or something easy like that.
      Then play through the Gambler's Chest. The GC book explains everything very well. At the end of this you'll be multiple campaigns in and everything will make sense.
      Start small.

      It would be nice to break this video up into a series of videos for us new players. I played 1.0 when it came out and have just purchased 1.5 with the legendary card pack. I sort of under stand what some of the things are. But if there Weber separate videos for nodes, seed patterns, etc. It would be much more helpful. Pretty much every single topic you hit here, broken down into a smaller easier to digest video where things are shown a little bit more completely would be fantastic. For example, when you choose a core monster, you could show what all the different core monsters are available, so players start to understand.

    You need to be kind of the dungeon master for your group (i even tweak the story/end) to make KDM a great game. It needs work on your part to make everything smooth but then its fantastic.

      I’m thinking about doing that more. My buddy and I beat Good Smoke Knight and we’re a little disappointed by the ending. I think it fits thematically, but not all players will feel fulfilled by that.

    • @BraMithra
      @BraMithra  Місяць тому +1

      This is correct. KDM is in my opinion, the best "solo RPG" experience board games have to offer. It is a fantastic system-based game that can be fully customized to your likely and story desires. I am a fan of other board games in KDM boss-battling genre, however, they are not as free and lore-heavy as KDM. KDM does allow the player to DM for themselves and theory craft the lore and setting.

      Yes, it can be complex. I have decided to return to this topic when Frogdog comes out to make a more condensed version without me explaining how systems interact with one another.
