Brilliant work Richard. I absolutely love your music. I have planned for this music for my funeral (not too soon though, I hope). I still play and sing these regularly... (I also have a copy of the Varese Sarabande soundtrack). However, after years of struggling I am still perplexed as to the correct words for the line that seems to say: .... "Take all my troubles and make me a swithering me". ... I know that "swithering" is a very old Scottish term meaning an uncertainty of what to do, ... but can you really be using this word?
am a guitar jangler, who never comments online. when i ran into this song- the movie is on tv today, i had to remark that the melody, key changes and drama of this old timey folk-bit is excellent. thank you mr. gillis!
What a beautiful movie. what a beautiful job you have done Virginia editing these images of the movie with the song. I think that Cable, Hildy and Reverend Joshua must be the most lovable characters that the cinema gave in a long time.

Wait for me, sunrise Bring me some new skies Gonna stop all my wandering When I see what tomorrow will bring It might bring down the taste Of a bright berry wine Or a white ringin' bird Singin' "I'm feelin' fine," It might bring by a breeze over new mountain head, or the Touch of a lover At the end of the day So you wait for me, sunrise Bring me some new skies Gonna stop all my wandering When I see what tomorrow will bring. Take all my troubles and make me way willing me Bright colored peacocks and yellow canaries All my time is your time my heart can sing, I will See what tomorrow will bring I will see what tomorrow will bring
Esta pelicula la vi cuando tenia 11 años y oy la e vuelto aver una por que es una excelente pelicula y la otra por que me trae hermosos recuerdos de mi niñes con pobreza pero hermosa niñes
Can't believe I didn't discover this film until last year. And I always thought I was was a bit of a fim buff. Brilliant soundtrack too. In answers to Virginia, don't know if you found the answer to your question from Mr Gillis but I made it; "It might bring by a breeze over new mown hay or the touch of the lover at the end of the day, (...) take all my troubles and make me less weary (?) bring me bright coloured peacocks and yellow canaries..
Beautiful song from a supremely well crafted movie. If you haven't seen it you are in for a rare experience. If you have only seen it once watch it again and pay close attention to every detail of the soundtrack. So much of what is seemingly incidental has been put there with purpose, lots of almost subliminal dialogue snippets, nature sounds, and background songs sung by characters in the film like when Taggart and Bowen abandon Hogue in the desert ("took all the water and left for the trees"). The Richard Gillis songs soar above these other layers of sound; there is an interweaving of music, lyrics, voices, dialogue and various audio sources that I have never heard used this way in any other movie. Also this is Joshua's song. David Warner's Reverend Joshua Duncan Sloane, of the Church of the Wayfaring Stranger is such an extraordinary character and counterpoint to Jason Robard's Hogue. His theology is thought provoking and quite insightful in it's own unique way. Orson Welles' Father Mapple in Huston's Moby Dick is a forerunner in this regard (of course the sermon comes straight from Melville but Welles rises to it superbly). Peter Boyle's Preacher Bob in James Frawley's Kid Blue follows this template (and steals the show from Dennis Hopper). Raymond St Jaques' Street Preacher from Carpenter's They Live is another great performance in this style.
It's a shame that Peckinpah isn't remembered more for this film, and Junior Bonner as well. There's far more to his films than gun shots and spurting blood, a legendary director!!!!
Yeah...the life's blood of earthy people. Livin' with heart just a step from and always before the rain soaked or hard ground of loneliness. Gunsmoke episodes, too.

Mr Gillis, it's an honor to me having you here. And how I wish I could play this beautiful song. But I'm not a musician, I barely play my ukulele. So I'm not able to discover the chords just listening to the music. If it won't bother you, I would love to have the chords... How could I get them? Thanks a lot, VJ

Take all my troubles and make me way willing me
Bright colored peacocks and yellow canaries
