    Great video! Just recently a Buddy brought over his general 1000, gun it then try an stop.... both feet on brake pedal and keeps on truckin' then put everything you got into the brakes then she'd stop and stall. Also no top end... Knew it had to be the primary. Belt wouldn't come off because primary was stuck. Took the primary off and all the rollers and all the weights were horribly worn yet clutch was very clean and one way bearing was like new. Rebuilt it in jig-time including the one way bearing and she runs like a champ!

    • @Hunterworks
      @Hunterworks  Рік тому +1

      Glad you got her going, in our experience replacing rollers etc is not a long term fix, seems that same clutch more times than not is right back in same spot again.

    • @gmctech
      @gmctech Рік тому +2

      I have no doubt you are correct! It was startling to see this much carnage while the clutch was so clean...... i mean it was spotless clean. I guess it's likely just a clutch that's been assembled with parts machined way beyond acceptable tolerances.

    Have a 2020 Ranger XP 1000 crew, bought it mostly to take grandkids out. When I 1st got 8t, spent @5-6 weeks at dealer with many calls to factory service. Issues were 1. "Walking" fwd or back with brake disengaged 2. Extremely hard to shift, would have to shut engine off 3. Loud "clunk" when shift between fwd or Rev. Dealer finally got approval to fix it. Replaced pairs in clutch & what they referred to a thrust bushing. It did great until recently, took 1 grand daughter out & noticed a strange noise for about 3 or 4 seconds while driving on hard surface dirt, @ 30/35 mph. A few weeks later, wife & I took out 2 adult friends. We took a trip through local foothills, for about 90 minutes, all was perfect, stopped for picnic, upon restart, loud sounds from rear , extremely hard to shift into low, had to "jam" shifter from park all the way to high. Finally got it into high, decided to cut our trip short, returned home. Dropped it off at dealer that afternoon was told 1st come, 1st served, which sounds reasonable. They told me the clutch may have failed, linkage needs adjustment, used primarily on hard surface dirt, occasionally on sand, low when climbing trails with hills. Have maybe 100 hours & just over 1500 miles. Mainly until recently, I traveled out of town a lot. N9w retired, I want to enjoy myself

    Probably the number 1 issue with all Polaris products is misaligned clutches from the factory. Some right off the show room floor of my dealer, some develop over time. 16+ XP Turbo Machines even though they say non adjustable clutch alignment you can use a snap ring delete kit to adjust alignment, even on 19-20 XP Turbo Machines without a snap ring holding the secondary you can still use the shims in the kit to align it.

    Great description of the how the clutch works. Problem is my clutch on a 2002 Ranger 500 6x6 does not have a thrust bearing! It is just a shiny shat that spins with the Primary clutch. The belt is aligned properly and has the correct tension with no wear. The belt turns spinning the secondary clutch and causes grinding when trying to shift to High. I can put a board against the secondary and stop the belt and Secondary from spinning and the transmission will shift fine. I purchased a new Primary clutch and it is the same as the clutch on the machine. So, I guess my problem is internal to the transmission? If so, I still don't think the Secondary should be spinning as fast as it is. I have also turned the idle speed down to 800 RPM. Any thoughts?

    My issues are I’ve noticed that my clutch engagement seems to take more rpm’s. Acts like it starts to catch at the normal 1800-1900 range, but then real catches at about 2100. Also at times when I’m coming to a stop and it stalls the engine. Very hard to shift. Polaris 2019 xp1000 Northstar with about 2500 miles and original belt. Inside cover and clutch area is spotless, no dirt, belt debris, belt is smooth and not frayed. Will have to find the time to investigate further. Thanks!

I’ve tried every position to place the shims for alignment and even with it aligned absolutely centered it still stays engaged when coming to a stop. Sometimes will stall and sometimes will disengage if I stab the brakes hard when coming to a stop. Does this sound like the primary is sticking when spreading apart?

    I had them change my fluids on my ranger 1000 and find a hard shifting issue on hills, and now my machine needs about 4000rpm's to just start to move and never really engages. Is this some kind of adjustment issue they may have caused? the unit has 200 miles on it

    Fantastic explanation mate and hello from Australia.!
    Our farm has a Bobcat diesel utv which is a Ranger in disguise, we have just fixed up the driveline and had to replace the primary clutch (genuine part replacement). on the initial testing in the shed everything is sweet but when i get some actual heat and load into the driveline, I experience two odd things.
    1, The gears become hard to shift. It just feels like too much force is required to shift the gears. If I shut it down then it selects correctly.
    2, I reckon its jerky on start and also intermittently when i stop the machine will jerk in the direction i was travelling, then settles down.
    It does have a new heavy duty belt, big mud tyres on the rear and I haven't done anything to the driven clutch....
    Any thoughts mate?
    Thanks heaps!

    I have a 2012 polaris 500 sportsman HO. SHOULD I BE ABLE TO SPIN THE MAIN BEARING WHILE CLUTCH IS ON MOTOR. ? I bought this atv with 611 miles on it which probly don’t mean didly! Anyway I have that hard shifting going on. So I noticed the idle was at 1400+ rpm has carb so I turned idle down to 1150 apro. But below 1200 rpm. That one way bearing there I can’t spin it in the right direction so I’m assuming it needs replacing ? I’ll entertain any thoughts of course. The belt is original so it’s 10-11 years old but with that 611 mileage when I bought from a private party. Didn’t notice any shifting situation when I bought it. This started happening around 800 miles. I got the belt off now. I have new belt coming. The sheaves are beautiful shape though I’m gonna take brake cleaner and wipe down. But if that bearing ain’t able to spin I imagine it’s toast. Ok I’m done hacking thank you ahead of time in a reply…

      Ok. The belt is riding on the stationary side of the clutch. I can pull the belt over one notch/groove on the one way bearing and it works fine, until mid range pushes it back. Misaligned? But not by much? Tighten primary clutch more?
