I remember getting the ESV Pitt Minion back in.. 2013 I think? Still have it with me to this day. Always thought, “If they took this exact Bible and made it a bit bigger, it would be the perfect Bible.” Really looking forward to picking up both a hardcover of this and a leather one later on.
Another excellent review, Mark. As Psalm 90 (ESV) says: "The years of our life are seventy, or even by reason of strength eighty;" Well, I've had my three score and ten already and I'm still able to read my four beloved Pitt Minions with no trouble at all. That assumes, of course, that I'm wearing my spectacles and I'm in good light. If the good Lord deigns to bless me with ten more years "by reason of strength", I strongly suspect that my treasured Pitt Minions will be (sigh) too small for me and the Diadem may just be the ticket. Like you, I'm anxiously looking forward to the leather editions and other versions as well. Thanks, Mark!
You’re welcome Guy and thanks for those insights (no pun intended!). Your eyes seem to be doing better than mine, although I had about 37 years of perfect vision at least! 😀 I think you’ll enjoy the Diadem by the sounds of things! 👍👌
DIADEM shape is ideal. Esp to be size of CONCORD. This WILL be a winner for Cambridge. I especially like smaller bibles THAT I can READ. Can't wait for BOTH bibles ...hardback AND calfskin. CAMBRIDGE got THIS right. Thanks Mark.
Looking forward to the leather additions of this Bible. I love my Pitt but there are plenty of situations where it’s just a little to small. Great review mate!
@@konstantinallinforchrist9867 It should be noted the the NRSV compact text Bible is not a reference Bible whereas the Diadem is, but if you are not looking for a reference Bible it is a good option!
I really like the Pitt Minion. I may have to pick one of these up once they're available in the US. Black letter hardcover is great, I wish all Bibles were available like that. Durable and affordable.
@@NnifWald There is a specifically Catholic edition of the ESV approved by the Catholic Church, Cambridge has confirmed that they will produce an ESVCE diadem in the spring time of next year

Really great review, brother. Thank you. Watching in Scotland but from NI, and it's such a blessing to have a fellow UK person doing Bible reviews!! I love the Diadem but won't be purchasing as I prefer soft cover and really dislike red letter. Quite similar to my Allan ESV NCR. You should have a look at the Allan Bibles, lots of great Bibles in various translations that you'd love. Thank you again!
I preordered on Amazon on Thursday 28th and got an update today for delivery about Nov 12. Good thing I ordered.. seems about sold out. Even on pre-order.
Does anyone happen to know if the Apocrypha included in this edition has been updated along with the rest of the text from the 2009 to the 2016 translation, or if the Apocrypha is simply the 2009 text added to the 2016 edition? Either way, the upcoming leatherbound edition sounds like my dream Bible, glad I found this video just to have heard about it.
At about 8:50 you mention the NRSV Study Bible. I am not familiar with this Study Bible could you let me know to which you are referring? I love the look of the Diadem and would love to see it in the NRSVue (New Revised Standard Version updated edition), due out in 2022!
Hi Belz, sorry I’m not familiar with it either! If you pause the video it is mentioned on that front inner information page. Yes the revised NRSV will be coming in 2022 and I’m sure we’ll see Cambridge start to publish it following it’s release. 👍
It’s not that small… 8.5 points is smaller than the Clarion admittedly but a substantial improvement on the Pitt. I prefer the layout of this Diadem over the Clarion and find it easier to read but of course this will be subjective. Thankfully we have lots of options 😀
CONCORD is about 9 POINT FONT and DIADEM about 8.5 ? I think. It will be exciting for Cambridge conisours. To see different translations extant. Really excited to see. Esp since CAMEO is 8 POINT and readable and is most popular CAMBRIDGE offering . I think this will be something to watch ongoing. I would not READ the pitt minion but THIS may be exciting.
Excellent review! At the very end you shared the leather options that will come out most likely in 2022. I see that the dust jacket only lists Calfskin versions. Will there be goatskin options?
I have a question. In the cross-references to the Old and New Testaments, do they ever reference the Apocryphal books, or is it only within the Apocrypha itself?
Didn't CAMBRIDGE print the Geneva bible in about 1591 ? And wasn't 1769 the last revision of KJV since revised version of 1880 ..81 was a New translation as well AS NKJV in 1982 NOT a revision but a NEW translation ? THANKS.
I have been a reader of CONCORD since about 1969. And all others since then except pitt minion. And I did not like the 87% reduction of paragraph bible . Was a bit disappointed in TOPAZ. But THIS makes me. Very excited.
When it says 8.2/8.5 is one the type and the other the FONT ? THANKS. Similarly is CONCORD 9/9.5 or IS ONE with the leading. If ESV is text will it NOT be the same dark and bold of Cambridge KJV VERSIONS. ? THANKS again. I sort of count FONTs to go to sleep.
Hi Gleason I thought I replied to you in another msg, sorry if I dreamt that! First number is font size, second number is line spacing or the leading as it is sometimes called. According to the Cambridge catalogue the Concord is an 8pt font with a 9pt leading, but that does sound small to me! ESV will be like the typeface in the Pitt Minion, not like the bold typefaces of say the Cameo.
Concord is 8 pt (though reads like a 9 with the boldness & spacing between lines) & Diadem is 8.2 pt (yet from reviews it looks smaller print than the Concord due to font style, lighter print and tighter spacing). I know Mark already corrected the font size in another comment above. ☺️ My one concern is the "cramped" look of the text, it is very readable for me in the Pitt, but in an enlarged format, it looks like it needs to increase the leading to look more proportionate. 🤔
The print size is too small for my eyes. I would require a 10.5, minimum, and a verse by verse. I don't need another ESV Bible, but this one intrigues me. I might check out all of them when they are released. Thank you for your review. :)
The fact that CAMBRIDGE favours ESV for their initial public offering..both in TOPAZ and now with DIADEM..raises that translation to #1. In my thinking. Hope CAMBRIDGE follows with NKJV as they did with TOPAZ. Cambridge hits a home run with THIS .
I have the Pitt Minions both in KJV and the NKJV - LOVE THEM. I am *dying* for Cambridge to come out with the NKJV translation of the Diadem. I am madly in love with the traditional double-column, center reference layout like in the Pitts. I got incredibly frustrated to find out that Cambridge doesn’t have the Cameo in NKJV. Neither in the Concord. Nor in the Turquoise! I do not understand why?! 😭 I do not like the layout of the Topaz and I am not looking for single-column style like in the Clarion (which I do have in the NASB) nor something as large as the wide-margin. If they come out with a NKJV Diadem, I will *SCREAM* my lungs out in excitement… then immediately buy it. I promise you. 😂 PLEASE CAMBRIDGE, I beg you 🙏🏻
Thanks Anna, just so you know the Cameo, Concord and Turquoise are all old letterpress editions that originate from the 20’s and 50’s, all originally plates of the KJV text. This means it’s impossible to insert a different translation into these formats as they are plates. I’m sure we will see new editions of the Diadem though.
CAMBRIDGE BIBLES are so popular in USA that BIBLES from 1920s that are past copyright are being reprinted by CBP..church bible publishers..and in exciting covers and colours. E.g. CAMEO and especially TURQUOISE. Some even reduced to personal size but still readable.
