The Green lights at the oil field are mercury vapor gas lamps. Factories used these instead of normal gas lamps as they have a longer lifetime and glow stronger.

Also, the reason the Sant Denis streetlights are much whiter and brighter than the rest of the lightbulbs is because they are arc lights. They work by causing electricity to arc between two rods, which lets off a substantial amount of light (it also produces a lot of hazardous ultraviolet light). Because they could be used to illuminate a wide area, arc lights were the most common form of outdoor electric lighting before being replaced by incandescent lights.

Another detail you may not have noticed. If you look closely at the wires one of them will be slightly thicker (normally attached lower down the pole) that’s the telegraph wire. The thinner wires are for electricity. Beyond Blackwater only the thicker telegraph wire is used.

@@Ivonmorr this is telegraph, not phone line. and it does have two wires wrapped in a insulating material; in contrast to two set of one for the electricity. so yes, the electrical wires are thicker overall.
it worth mentioning that telegraph lines are also DC, so a lot of power drop over long distances. it is also powered by up to 100v. use of thick wires in contrast to telephone lines is understandable as they used to trigger relays, not speakers which require much less power. also they rarely got any amplification in contrast to telephone lines.

Very cool! I like how straight-to-the-point you were. I can imagine someone, or multiple people, at Rockstar between 2013-2018 whose entire job was just to set up the telephone poles around the map, connect them to any electricity-requiring devices, and then connect all the poles back to the facility in Saint Denis. What sounds like a simple job probably took months to perfect.

Would make sense for RDR2 to also have this, since it's set in the late 19th or early 20th century you will likely not be able to touch the wires anyway so they might aswell have collision, for a game like GTA that's set in modern times this would be an issue which is likely why they don't have a hitbox and will probably still not have one in GTA 6

Electrical distribution can be done over a single line, called single-phase, and it is very common towards the exterior reaches of circuits. This is why we use alternating current, so the current can flow both ways along a single wire which is more efficient for distributing power over long distances. We standardized this system in the mid-1880s so it works timeline wise.

    1) zig zag door bracing is hung backward in many instances. The hinges are on the wrong side of the door.
    2) wooden pallets with forklift cutouts can be seen near places of industry. Although "skids" have been used since forever to elevate cargo off the ground (and help keep it dry), lift truck pallets are a specific shape. Forklifts were not invented during the time of RDR.
    3) many of the windmills you encounter are not connected to anything. The type of mill seen frequently in RdR would normally be used for pumping water.

Very cool video. I would have never thought about telephone/ electric poles in the game. Rockstar is truly amazing. There's just no other developer even close

Good Video! Nicely on Point, and good Visuals and Editing, goes to show that even an AI Voice can be tolerated, a lil tip on my side, the pause between the words are almost perfect, a lil longer couldnt hurt, but nevermind me!
    Congrats

fyi RDR2 is the Last Passion project for the old Rockstar devs and the game literally depicts the state of Rockstar the Greed of their Crazy for Money CEO and much more btw all Rockstar Old and Good devs Left immediately after RDR2 was released some even before release when the game went Gold
what RDR2 ultimately is a Love Letter to Great Games and good story telling something completely gone from modern games

Some power lines are "ground return" power lines that only have one wire bringing current out with the return current just being dumped into the earth. This saves money in rural areas where they can't afford to string out two sets of wire. Of course, according to wikipedia that wasn't invented until the 20s so IDK if that's the right call compared to using telegraph lines.
