Linville Gorge Wilderness Loop Hiking in North Carolina (April 2021)

Come along as six of us embark on a 21.9m (35 km) hike around the Linville Gorge Wilderness Loop located in the Pisgah National Forest in western North Carolina during April 2021.
We parked at the Wolf Pit Trailhead in Nebo, NC and hiked counter-clockwise along the Shortoff Mountain Trail towards Table Rock then down into the gorge, across the Linville River and finally cutting across the Mountain-to-Sea Trail to return to the trailhead.
The trail can be strenuous, especially in the rain, but I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a weekend trip. Don't underestimate the elevation gain and impact that will have on your pace.

Beautiful cave-camping scenes!
Spence Ridge Bridge washed out after 7 years of use and $74,000. Another monument to the lack of planning on the paRt of the US Forest Service. ( there have been others).
The Loop you hiked is properly called ITAYG or the southern half of the Grand Loop (39 miles).
Please use Avenza Linville maps for both accuracy and proper names. No one else even comes close.

We bear bagged it. Had no encounters or issues with them.

We didn't use any water directly from this river as we were aware of the Mercury issues.
