    Awesome video. Excited to do this section, but not able to do the distances you guys did. Thinking of splitting it up, sobo newfound to fontana then nobo newfound to standing bear where I left off. This visual helps me to see what's ahead. I'm going to check out your other videos. Thanks guys good job!!

    Nice video. Thanks for putting it together. I was wondering what the parking situation is at Davenport Gap. Is it reasonable to leave a car there? If so, did you just park on the side of the road? Is there an parking lot?

    • @krumb
      @krumb Рік тому

      Thanks! We did park on the road there along with about 8 other cars, but beware. When we returned someone had stolen my catalytic converter so my car sounded like a tank when we started it up. Still totally worth it to me. Unbelievable section. Happy trails!

      @@krumb One more question, if you don't mind. I know you have to "reserve" shelters, but what happens if you're not able to make that reservation (say you get behind schedule, or you decide to pass it)? I mean is there any kind of enforcement or can you get away with camping by a shelter where you don't have a reservation?

    • @krumb
      @krumb Рік тому

      @@jman4715 the reservation thing is pretty loose and rarely enforced. It only becomes necessary in that section if you want to stay in the actual shelter because so many do. Otherwise setting up near the shelter is totally fine and seemed to be the norm. We slept in one the first night because we thought we had to and then never again after that. Good luck!

    The video was so fast but the main thing is the camera was way too far away that you couldn't see how they were made and what they were made from. I'm guessing chicken wire?

    • @JamieWaltz77
      @JamieWaltz77 2 роки тому

      Yes, these are made from 3x3 foot wide chicken wire pieces which are then rolled into a sphere shape by twisting the cut wire together. I'll be making another video soon on how to actually construct them and hang them.

    Beautiful cave-camping scenes! Spence Ridge Bridge washed out after 7 years of use and $74,000. Another monument to the lack of planning on the paRt of the US Forest Service. ( there have been others). The Loop you hiked is properly called ITAYG or the southern half of the Grand Loop (39 miles). Please use Avenza Linville maps for both accuracy and proper names. No one else even comes close.
