The second half he's describing isn't the anti-tamper, though. Or, at least, I hope it's not. If I'm right, the true second half is the ability, not only to input commands directly into the game using brain EM frequencies, but also taste, touch, smell, and experience everything in the game world as well. It would be an experience where you'd literally be living in the other world, probably the main inspiration for doing SAO theme of the NerveGear to begin with: it gave everyone a literal chance at a second life.

If this gets created, and let's say a modified version without thorns gets released, it could become a great tricky replacement for currently existing VR headsets, so buying a VR headset could be dangerous, since it might be replaced with the one that kills you.

It is important to note that creating a VR headset that can kill people would be illegal in almost every country. There are strict laws in place to prevent the development and sale of dangerous products. So, if Luckey is serious about this, it is essentially impossible that he will be able to get away with it.
in sword art online the developer actually joins the rest of the people in the series knowing this is his last, playing a game and in the game he states that people have tried removing the head set and as result have died and gave them a final warning to the players not to do anything else but clear the game to get out

here's what i would prefer, a singular store placed on a different planet which would be selling these, that way purchase of item would be very difficult and just about impossible
If it will become available (most likely not) there should be a contract that you'll have to sign and a age restriction. Also there should be warning ⚠️ signs clearly visible on the packaging and should not be sold in stores.

It was a joke the headset is just office decor
I prefer it was just built to make you fall asleep using sleeping gas and placing your consciousness into the very game like you are truly inside the game but can’t move in real life until you log out
except you cant log out until you clear floor 100 of aincrad
