Hey, you made it this far! Thank you for watching, make sure to come back & say hi before you leave... its not safe to go alone... - Ігри
Other games: "Here's a fishing rod."
Oblivion: *Swim out in the water and beat the fish to death with your bare fists.*
"Trust me, I'm a professional fisher."
I use a hammer but that works too.
Poor guy was robbed of his hard-earned gold, but not by a common thief. No, the literal universe he inhabits made a mistake. He was stiffed by reality itself, and honestly if that isn't the most Elder Scrolls thing I've ever heard, I don't know what is.
Moth priests having a laugh just using the ElderScrolls to delete code and ruin a lowly fisherman.
@@MLBeaton Yep, that is canon now in my book! 🤣
@wu1ming9shi If a retcon can be turned into a legitimate event in universe (The Dragonbreak) I see no reason why this shouldn't also be canon
@@andrewmeyer3599 True, I mean. Still most of ES lore was made by it's fans, even the 9 divines were inspired by the forum names of the moderators of the old bethesda forum site. It think so atleast. I remember seeing that somewhere.
Nice profile picture, brother.
The man that breaths new life into oblivion is back at it again.
A quicker way of finding the slaughterfish is to follow the green quest marker when you are in lake rumare. Whenever you kill one, it updates to follow the next one
True, but that doesn't change how foggy the water is in the vanilla game.
I always wished there was an option to heal his leg with restoration or alchemy.
Player: laughs at the fisherman.
Also Player: get slaughtered by slaughter-fish.
I've played this game for nigh on 15 years and I didn't know you could access the quest after laughing at him. I thought that just locked you out of the quest forever XD
Same here! 😅
I have played Oblivion quite possibly a thousand times since I first discovered it and I'm constantly learning things about quests which I didn't know thanks to you. Your narration is also top-notch, especially the way you actually interact with NPCs. Love your work!
Poor guy, his leg was injured and he got put out of work by some Slaughterfish, only to have worked so hard so that he could retire with only 22 gold saved in his chest.
I love how this guy still makes oblivion videos even over 12+ years of its release
As much as I bash on Bethesda and their recent style of developing RPG titles, they do add some very weird (in a good way) details that are fairly well hidden in plainsight
@@andrewmeyer3599 oblivion is just one of those games that just hits right
Oblivion released in 2006.
@@letswaveabook3183 still 12+ years ago 😃
I don't get why it matters how old a game is to people. Well, actually I can in one sense. If it's been released in the past decade then it's sh!T.
The Main character: jumps into a lake to swim and kill the very dangerous fish with an axe but Aelwin is the stupid one?
*LAUGH IN HIS FACE*
If im not an argonian this quest is a go-to every run. Simple with a MASSIVE payoff early game that never stops being useful.
I feel like you should 300k subs by now ,, such quality RP lore
Well, thank you kindly 😄
I actually DID play an Argonian for their waterbreathing perk last time I played Oblivion, way back when it was still new. He was an alchemist rogue.
If I replayed it I'd probably make a full summoner build, possibly using bound bow for ranged damage.
I'm thankful this Thanksgiving for Dark Lore Dash! Great video as always.
Can you do a video about the Ice tears mission.
I started a new playthrough of Oblivion recently and literally replayed this quest yesterday 😂 your timing's awesome. Oblivion's my favourite game of all time.
I feel bad for him, I think I'll try the laugh and charn technique so I can then use the bribe function to give him money.
I definitely remember years ago on Xbox that I was able to do this and he had 500 gold in his chest.
I always go there for the water breathing ring. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Fact: It's actually easy. Just wear a water walking boot. Fish will come to you and start attacking you, but they can't able to attack you, except you can attack and kill them because of a ridiculous hit box.
And if you have access to the Arcane University, you can create a water walking on touch spell that causes them to flop around at the surface and they are completely prone
@@rydell6899 I never thought of this, can't wait to try it soon!
At 6:35, me, who swims with heavy armor on with no problems due to having 100 Strength: I have no such weaknesses.
I love your videos! They are all amazing!
I love your oblivion videos so much!! Thank you!!
Well even a broken clock is right twice a day.
10 years of me playing this game and i never once even tried to talk to this guy and have this quest
Taking off all of your armor just to go swimming? In waters that are home to slaughterfish? Get that real world logic out of here! This is an Elder Scrolls game!
I mean, in medieval money a Gold coin could make you a rich man so 22 gold to us might not be much but in the elders scrolls universe 22 gold would probably set you up for a couple of years. Sadly there's no silver or copper (if you count the Drakon Currency of course) because if there was then you'll know what I mean
cabbage is 2 gold.
@@theironfox2756 WHAT?! I bearly make that in a year! These prices are ridicules!
@JaythePandaren91 Look if you go out and skin a wolf, you should be able to get a head of cabbage and a tomato for the pelt.
I remember this quest and hadn't done it in a while
The glitchy quest markers for the fish made this quest potentially annoying beyond reason, but it was usually worth it in the early game. Water breathing (and a small Athletics boost) on command, all for the cost of just carrying the ring around? Sign me up.
Hmmm I am sure that back then my ring had waterwalking and water breathing on it
I only done the quest for the ring and haven’t tried the rest before.
Holy potatoes! Go Fish has to be my first quest after leaving the sewers when I first played Oblivion. And there's more to the quest? 17 years and I am still learning more about this game!
This was the first quest I ever did on my journey back in 2008.
Ah yes, cheap waterbreathing item for non-argonians -quest.
I never knew the quest was bugged. I've played the game quite a few times and I always do the quest early on, as the ring is quite useful. And I've always thought how could this dude retire on such a low amount of money, this makes no damn sense. I mean just as an example of how much stuff cost in this world, even the cheapest bed for rent is 10 gold for 1 night!
I have actually never done this quest
Honestly, it never occurs to me to steal his savings. I never thought it would exist in-game and I wouldn't want to. But I also loved the water in Oblivion, so maybe I'm just dumb, lol.
Aelwin may of lost a fight with a fish but YOU DIED MMMWAHAHAHAHAAAA
I always used Fin Gleam when doing this quest early lvl.
Oh you're disappointed by his retirement? Imagine how he feels!
But for real, I could almost see this as a disconnect between how cheap living expenses are in Cyrodil vs how expensive the goodies like swords and stuff are. Kind of like how a gold piece is nothing to a dnd adventurer but the average dnd peasant might work a year for one.
It's funny because you can laugh at him and still get his money by just stealing it
one of the best rewards in the game , that leads to lot of other quests being easier because of it
This quest was annoying but my last play through i went and got him his scales
As a console player, im actually not mad about not getting the extra gold, I'll leave the poor old man alone and help him with his quest. He doesnt deserve to be killed, even tho his quest is a bit draggy
If you ever unfortunetly got turned into a vampire or voluntarly you could use hunters sight to hunt the fish
Yeah that's one thing that Oblivion kind of always had going for it. Fallout 3 too, to a slightly lesser extent. Because the way Bethesda seems to design things after Morrowind from what I've gathered (Basically throw a single dev and small team at a project, self contained to do it on their own)... you'd get them doing these strange things. Like the Goblin Wars and Ant Wars mechanics in Oblivion and Fallout 3. Or "Devil in the Dark" in Fallout 4 which was just one new guy in the studio hammering it out alone. Or details like the Rumare Slaughterfish surfacing when it rains.
Little touches because it was just one/a few people hammering away at it trying to do something they thought neat for a sidequest diversion without much (if any really) oversight as far as I can tell.
first time I played oblivion I murdered this guy for my dark brotherhood initiation
On my last play this is the only thing i remember about the game. I have 50/50 achievements and this is the guy who takes the cake. I stole every penny.
Amazed at one thing: I don't think I've ever seen a Slaughterfish in Oblivion swim onto land just to get a bite on me. Skyrim Slaughterfish on the other hand are far more tenacious and are even willing to quickly evolve lungs just to get at you.
The oblivion slaughter fish used to erupt onto land all the time for me, so I have no idea what you're talking about
Oblivions dumbest NPC is lord rugdumph
uwu im Thankful for this video xD. much love from america, hope you are well sir!
5:36 great spelling
Console Commands not available on Consoles. My biggest pet peeve. Change the name to PC Commands. PC is the only system not referred to as a console.
How is 500 gold enough to retire?
Basically Bethesda didn’t really put in the time to flesh out the economy as much as they could’ve. 500 gold is a lot to a peasant but not a lot to an OP player character who can carry 400 pounds of loot.
You need to put yourself in the shoes of a peasant in Cyrodiil. Not the hero of Kvatch.
Think of how much you can sell a produce crop for at max disposition and barter. And then imagine how much IRL time it takes to produce a field of crops to sell.
Most peasants in the game aren’t OP dungeon explorers who can hold 400 pounds of loot to sell.
Many complain how exorbitant fines by guards can be (50 gold for Assault, in my state assault can be a fine of 2500$) which is still a lot of money to the average person.
Then look at the cheapest home in the IC, for example is 2000 Gold. (But it looks much worse than this NPC’s home as it stands.) and compare it to the cheapest homes you can buy today, a prebuilt double wide is around 150k in 2024.
Anyway TLDR suspension of disbelief: 500 is a lot for the average NPC but not for the PC
why does this man always have a torch out, even during the day?
Because UA-cam does funky things to screen recordings on occasion. It's easier to have additional in-game light sources play with each other to combat that than it is to try to correct it in post, where things will be lost anyway.
UA-cam likes to make things much darker than they actually are
Ey brother whats that Argonian comment around 8:09 mean? You got a problem with Argonians bro? Huh? Where I'm from we don't like that kinda talk brother. You're gonna wanna be real careful from here on out you hear me???
Honestly, I love the poison immunity because it means some traps in Ayleid ruins don't work on you at all. Recall even one has a section filled with poisonous gas that drains your health... unless you have a poison immunity, either through enchants or just being an Argonian.
🐐
