I am a bit puzzled that the ball manufacturers would simply tell Sascha that they're using an inferior rubber since Covid...

Again, guys, come on, if I can follow the anti doping processes, as a complete lay person, surely you can. It all hinges on whether you can successfully challenge the provisional suspension- and to do that you need evidence of where the contamination has come from. I know this is terrible for innocent players who can't produce that evidence but the ITIA can only go on the evidence provided. Because Sinner's trainer and physio immediately said what had happened, he was able to successfully appeal the suspension and, in those circumstances, for ALL players, it is not made public while the investigation is ongoing. In Iga's case, her intial appeal was rejected as she didn't have evidence, but just before the ITIA was going to go public, she sent the results of her own tests to the ITIA. They seem to have held off the announcement while they ran their own tests and then the provisional suspension was lifted. It's the same process but different circumstances and I wish players and commentators would get their heads round it tbh. Also for WADA to appeal an ITIA decision indicates there is no favoritism here.
