Akuma's only redeeming quality is that I have so much matchup knowledge against him because there's so many ranked Akumas. My fireball perfect parry success rate is like 10x more against Akuma than anyone else.
honestly at first i was like "i don't want akuma to be weak but i hope he gets toned down a bit :)" but after playing this fucking matchup all day for months i hope this trash ass character gets nerfed to the ground and only recovers last season
I'm an Akuma main and I support this notion. I want to play this character because I enjoy his lore and the utility of his moveset, not because he's always busted. I keep a pocket Ryu around specifically because winning with Akuma can feel downright dishonest. I actually enjoyed playing Kage on release in V as someone who mained Evil Ryu in SSFIV, as his stubby normals and weaker zoning balanced out his close-range pressure compared to his previous incarnation, who only had his one-frame links to worry about.
I refuse to hear it from anyone, Akuma is so blatantly top 1 it’s insane. People are going to look back at this season and make video essays being like “oh wow that was one of the most blatantly busted characters in SF6’s history”
I fully agree with this. I've said this before but he is so obviously, egregiously busted and the amount of collective downplay from the community is ridiculous just because he's "cool" and popular.
Blanka doesnt have a 6f medium to check drive rushes with but he does have a 7 frame heavy kick with 9 active frames that ppl just run into all the time imo, doesnt convert as hard as some other ppl might off a check but its still super easy/low effort due to the fact that it also is a decent antiair tool
Aki's poison bubbles 🫧 hitboxes don't fully match the animation, they're more towards the center of the bubble 🫧 - Also whenever characters jump, their hurtbox gets drastically reduced and they have fireball invulnerability on their lower legs
But Akuma wasn't jumping, he was dive kicking. Dive kicks are supposed to have giant hurtboxes below them. But yes, you're right that AKI's bubbles have much smaller hurtboxes than they appear to have.
I felt like Terry is being lied about. Let's hope that does not get him buffed. It's cool to hear comparisons between AKI and Chun Li and Bison and having them even.
Good video, one thing id comment on though is Jp's cr fierce is not restored to its season 1 power. Season 1 it had anti air invinc on the arm from frames 6-14. Now it only kicks in after the second active frame. Its usable again but not quite as strong. Still an above average AA considering its supplemented by a disjoint to boot.

I play a LOT against a good Zangief player, and I would say AKI does have an advantage. The fact that she can cancel her fireball in reaction to him trying to LVL2 completely negates his anti-fireball super, she can punish his 720 with double poison combo, and she actually has better wakeup options than him. Basically i feel like the knockdown into death can go either way, but she chips at him with poison and whip when nothing is happening. Oh and also the buffs to crHK whiff punish make it even harder for Gief to use his normals.
Interesting list. It's very different from mine and I'm wondering if that's due to the skill difference, playstyle difference or both. Either way, interesting to see and hear the reasoning.
I think the stupid damage Bison gets push it to disadvantage to Aki. It's considerably easier for Bison to get the right conditions for 7k damage than it is for her. Whoever gets the ball rolling first has a massive advantage in the round, but Bison just gets to convert any kind of stray hit into a guess for game from anywhere in the screen. Honestly, that's how I feel about a lot of matchups with Bison though. Regardless of how well or poorly the tools of two characters interact, the fact that Bison only realistically needs to win neutral once makes it awkward to judge matchups. It's like every MU is 5:5 at round starts and becomes 8:2 in favor of whoever gets the first hit in. lol
God Marisa armor is so bad. It's somehow worse than Season 1 Broly armor from DBFZ. Every time few weeks when I log in, I pick Marisa then remember why I dropped her despite wanting to main her. I wish she was Abigail
32:38 regarding future buffs - if SFV is anything to go by, the Akuma matchup will be made even more horrendous when Capcom realizes that an insufficient number of players are using the SiRN Akuma transformation and start giving him a fast way to access it. It's in line with how they kept buffing the VT no one used.
Despite modern devs doing the really smart thing of giving characters access to all their tools and changing things if it's hard/awkward...yeah. Power budget is ABSOLUTELY critical and some opportunities are wasted/entirely too good because of it. DBFZ buffed nearly 90% of it's roster several times just so they could match power with the top tiers, and it worked out pretty damn well in context.
I wanted to drop Deejay for Aki, but run into Akuma or Cammy so frequently that he's still effectively my main, when his only job is handling those matchups 😔

maybe this is a bad take, but i completely disagree with his placement of jamie, if you watch hikaru aki vs rly high mr jamie players, hikaru actually has an incredibly negative winrate vs almost all of them (in ranked) i think its much closer to even because you are not allowed to use your fireball because he has all the time in the world to drink and parry it, and divekicks in general are rly annoying for aki... the only time you win this matchup is if you're able to rush him down without using fireballs ever, and it's actually a lot more technical than i think broski is making it out to be
Idk why but as a plat 1 aki, akuma has never been much of a problem for me. Maybe its just cause he has less health so mid rank akuma players make more mistakes and get insta blown up
Capcom needs to rethink how they approach characters who need to stock resources to be competitive. I'd offer that they haven't exactly turned out so well. (Please don't bother bringing up iDom and Manon; that's just iDom being better than 99 percent of the world)
Didn’t Citizens Dhalsim put you in losers in the last World Warrior? Are you sure its advantage? Considering how few top tier Dhalsim players there are; have you fully tested AKI out against top tier Dhalsims like Mr Crimson?
I think people forget that there are players behind these characters at the end of the day so sometimes people can just play better than others and even beat the disadvantage
I can accept AKI/Chun being even. Chun is basically just a slightly stronger Kimberly with a slow fireball this season, in that she simply needs to win too many interactions to be actually scary at any point in a match. Also, you're a coward for not saying AKI loses to Zangief. All Zangief players need to know how carried they are.

I was a longtime geif player who swtiched to aki when she was released because i thought she seemed so cool. Ive spent so many years traumatized by dhalsim in the gief matchup that i cant get out of the scrambly headspace i get in when fighting him even as aki lol

Aki is one of the few remaining match ups where Cammy can od knuckle on reaction to fireball as well.
Terry can also whiff punish Aki`s whip with burn knuckle. Is not easy, but it`s pretty doable if you`re looking for it.

I think the fireball not connecting has more to do with the tiny hitbox on the fireball than the relatively large hurtbox on Akuma's Demon Flip.
