  • In this episode we go over a flashing DPF light on a Mitsubishi Triton with the 4N14 2.4 TD engine, the reason is because the oil level is over full, we show you have to go about checking and resetting the level.

    we had this problem with our 2018 l200, having to change oil every few hundred miles, had a dpf expert say it needed replacing and quoted hundreds. Wasnt sure so got a second opinion from a garage and turns out it was a faulty injector seal. someone used the wrong size so it was leaking, easy tell was under the plastic engine cover, you could see burning on the foam on the underside. Guy replaced the seals which cost a few pounds each and had no problems ever since and have now put around 10,000 miles on it since then. No more dpf light, no more oil level increase and no more white smoke out the back.

    That diesel run away is no joke a old work van I used it was Mercedes I was driving to another town and this thing was gutless but this one time it just started red lining and took off, I put it in park turned the key off and literally standing on the brake pulling myself with the steering wheel and I’m 130kg and it just wouldn’t pull up for like a good klm or more I was yelling at my coworker to brace himself as I was going to put it in the ditch before i caused an accident with another car. But ended up stopping turned to my coworker laughing and said do I start it again jokingly

    I found this video because the man who came to spray the outside of my house for bugs, has a two year old diesel engined Triton that has, twice now, had to go back to the dealer with diesel in the engine oil. The dealer is taking significant money off his to fix this, which seems a bit off with what appears to be a known issue.

    does the oil dilution not cause engine wear , i,m suprised there arn,t more engine failures due to crank or piston seizures or does the excess deisal still provide lubrication ?

    • @RealAutoSolutions
      @RealAutoSolutions  5 місяців тому

      I can't say for sure, it's something that has crossed my mind before
      Diesel is a lubricant, it's what keeps the HPFP running well. Whilst petrol is not, which is why it's detrimental when petrol is put into a CRD.
      So I guess it has pressure and lubrication capabilities, it's probably only around 250ml of dilution into 7L of oil so it's probably negligible

    hey mate, ive got a 2019 triton its done 35,000km. i recently had the DPF service light come on. I did quite alot of research online and guys were saying to check the engine oil level also. So i did this and found the level to be sitting on the X mark (above the full mark on dipstick) so i booked it in and took it into my Mitsubishi dealerships garage. After going into pick it up all they had done was cleared fault codes and changed engine oil and filter. I asked them if they did any further diagnosis like checking for boost leaks (commonly intercooler hoses cracking) and they told me no. So basically in my eyes never actually ruled out the possible root cause of why i am experiencing this issue. They told me im not driving it far enough to do a DPF regen even though i travel 39km 1 way to work on the highway daily and then the same distance home at the end of my shift. They proceeded to say that they want me to drive the next 2000km and monitor for any lights on the dash that may come up and monitor the oil level. So far ive driven 650km and now the engine oil level is higher than the full mark and half way towards the X mark on dipstick but light is not on dash yet. From what i am seeing here in the comments there maybe no actual reason mechanically why the level is increasing.....more just a design fault from factory? Could there be any other issues apart from boost leaks? im not sure how a boost leak would cause oil to enter the oil sump?? Sorry for the long winded message i just really need some kind of honest answer cause i feel like im getting no where with my dealer apart from frustrated especially when there are no courtesy cars in the mean time to commute to work :( thanks heaps Aaron.

      I would hope they also reset the oil life like I did in my video
      The video should explain everything really, maybe watch again to try gather what's actually happening
      Oil level raising is normal on some cars with DPFs it depends how the system creates exhaust heat for regeneration
      On a Mitsubishi they inject diesel after TDC to create this excessive exhaust heat, though some of this diesel is not burnt and makes its way into the sump which is why the level increases.
      If you had a split boost hose you would probably have an engine light first of all
      Secondly at 35k you probably don't have one.
      Third if you did have a boost hose split the reason you would have excessive regens and oil level issues would be because some of the air is leaking out of that boost hose so the air to diesel ratio would be off in cylinder so excessive soot would be produced and then fill the dpf, the ecu then regens the dpf and the oil level becomes high as a result of that
      Either way, the oil life needs to be reset every service & I would also suggest 7500km service intervals.

    • @prembuddy
      @prembuddy 8 місяців тому

      I am no mechanic or expert. From internet,Two things for high oil level is head leakage(head gasket or engine head problem) found ,second is high fuel injection by car ecu/computer to clearly the clogged DPF.

    I worked at Ford UK Product Development at Dunton in Essex starting as a toolmaker in 1967. My first job was in Environmental Test where we cold start tested engines down to -20°C. The engines had their oil changed between tests, and were run for a hour in a sound proofed room where it got pretty hot. The truck engines we used at that time was the Dorset diesel, and it had an engine breather that connected to the inlet manifold, so it was entirely possible for the engine to run on if things got too hot. One occasion I remember was when a Dorset was revving out of control, and most of us ran for our lives, but one brave fitter (his name was Bob Gainer) ran in and yanked the breather out saving the day. Bob also told me a story of when he worked for the MoD at Foulness. Someone there started a big CAT dozer, and the clutch between the main and pony engines did not release, so when the main engine revved up it took the pony engine way past its designed max rpm, and blew it to bits. Bob later died of cancer at a far too early age, so remember guys... Being brave and too much excitement can give you cancer!

    My Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2 DI-D 2012 has a problem with oil level. If I change the oil today in maximum 2 months I have to much oil in the engine's bath. I don't know if it's a sensor thing or not. The mechanic insist that the DPF it's not blocked and it's just the problem that I don't take long ways that often and it's the unburned diesel accumulated.. In plus Whenever I start the heating it's starts to introduce a bad toxic smoke inside the cabin and after a few minutes I see smoke exiting from the exhaust (like when it's doing regeneration). I'm pretty sure that there are some exhaust leakages that upsets the engine and from there all this history with too much oil because of missed regeneration. . What do you think about my idea ?

      What fault codes is the car logging?
      Mitsubishis are bad for blowing boost hoses, I would get a thorough check done on them & probably a smoke test to confirm there is no intake leaks.

      There is no solution for it. The problem is that this engine is like this. You need a few long rides per week so that it reaches the right temperature for the FAP. It's a Peugeot made engine and all the cars that has the same engine are having the same problem. My mechanic called peugeot services to find out how they are dealing with the problem (maybe they can resoft the computer he thinked) but they said there is NO solution. Here in Paris the services are full with them. So sadly, you either start doing some long rides or you sell it and buy another one. Or buy a small petrol engine one and keep this one for long rides. @@adeelarif3582

      I don't know the codes. My mechanic scaned the cars computer. He even checked for the sensor on the DPF. Everything is fine. He said there is no solution and that this is happening because of the shor rides that I do with the car. He insist that I need to do longer rides with it so that the engine reaches the right temperature for the DPF. He identified the engine as beeing a Peugeot made one and he even called for his friends at Peugeot and sadly they had the same answer > for this engine there is no solution for my short rides case.

      The 4N14 is notorious for the exhaust manifold EGR port weld to fail leading to fumes in the cabin. This is mild steel and not cast so can be repaired. This can create issues amongst the EGR and DPF.
