      A plank ?? In the UK we have a saying for people like this: As thick as two short planks :-) When you see the antics of crew on boats on the Miami river / Haulover inlet etc. it make you wonder if these people actually have any boating qualifications at all ?? Or is it a free for all...enough money to buy a boat but don't need a license/qualification ?

      @will7its No, he said it's a charter yacht which basically means when the owner doesn't want to use it (if at all), the yacht and crew are chartered out for $130-140k a week. After this, my guess is the owner will be looking for a new captain; I sure as hell would be!

      Looks like drywall you can knock a hole in with your fist. Don't they have inflated protective pads of various shapes and sizes they drop over the side to protect against docks and other vessels.? In our own $7,000,000 Gulf Craft me and the Mrs. use them all the time.

    What kind of ships master would put his ship/boat/yacht side-on to a current running towards a bridge or other obstruction? Surely must be an amateur with more money than sense.

    • @f1parcferme

      I was thinking the same thing. Also, the current flows in two directions and deciding to go through when the water is flowing so quickly seems stupid for this guy. Wait for the slack, man.

    • @PowerYacht
      @PowerYacht 4 місяці тому +29

      If you never helmed (drive) a boat you will not understand this, but as soon as you stop making way into the current, it will grab and put you to the beam, even with a small boat (much worse on a yacht of this size). The video does not do it justice, but as he only stops going backwards a second possibly two (possibly delay from the engine controls to change shift from forward to reverse), the current grabs him with impressive force and turns him around in like three four seconds. Could have he done something to save it, yes but accidents do happen for a reason. Thar second or two delay, whether it was in thinking it over or delay from throttle response screws him. As soon as the current grabs him, his faith is done, like a car which lost traction in a curve and ends in a wall. Yes the bow thruster with that current will never do it all IMO...

      Now cue the conspiracy theorists... depth chargers went off sending M/Y Double Trouble into a bridge, exactly like what happened with Dali a little over a week ago. As Double Trouble hit the bridge several more explosions went off at several different points of the bridge. You can see from the footage how the explosions cut through the hull of the 96 metre long super yacht. Double Trouble being an Israeli owned vessel, funded by the US government, and likely having many Epstein like pedophiles on board, were protected by the police, who then proceeded to chase after everyone who had a camera nearby. The drone operator was shot in the crown jewels after he tried to flee the scene...if you were the drone operator and in hospital, and you have survived subsequent murder attempts, please get in touch. Surely a charter boat that size comes with a captain and crew. Getting side on to that current while so close to the bridge was always going to end in tears. Why didn't he reverse well away from the bridge be trying to turn? I'm guessing the boat will have a new captain when the repairs are done.

      I have never tried to reverse against such a strong current but it looked like they could handle the reversing part good. Then I have the same question as you. With the motor power they have, they could easily have made the turn if they only reversed a little further and then didn't hesitate making the turn.

To say you are taking a risk is quite the understatement. I would think that any vessel with more than just 2 decks would avoid going through there. Just not worth it. eSysman Super Yatchs, I have extensive training in marine operations, and l ived 20 years in Miami in the area of Bay Harbour Islands, I am certain the spot where this incident happened is the Haulover Beach Bridge, which is located next to my old neighborhood, and which in time is one of the entrances to the Miami Beach Waterways and the Bay of Biscayne. what an accident, it is just that there wasn`t enough clearance from those post fenders, so if you are at the helm and are not sure there is enough room for the boat to pass clear from the fenders, then you rather dont take any risk, and stop engine and think about the possibility of going trough the passage assisted by a small tug or a tow or some other smaller boat, amazing catch by a drone and someone else camera, I hope everything is alright for them by now. bst rgs

    imho, the captain backed off and was using the rudder to slide the boat across to the left to give himself room for the turn. The rudder just makes the stern go side to side in a backcurrent while the bow weathervanes downstream. He misjudged and let it drift too far while doing that. You can't turn across a current unless you're moving forwards, and that takes you downstream twice as fast. He should have crabbed across with some throttle on in reverse so the boat wouldn't drift downstream. He backed off far enough.

    The vertical support of the bridge is called a 'pier', not a pillar. The structure in the water in the front of the pier is called a 'fender'. Fenders are there to tell vessels which span of the bridge to cross under, to provide protection to the piers against vessel collision, and, ideally, to prevent damage to the vessel if it becomes errant (hence many fenders incorporating softer rubber elements, as are found where ships dock).

    So a yacht named _Double_ Trouble hit the bridge twice. They seemed to have propulsion and be able to control the boat when under power, so perhaps it was a failed attempt to comply with the "idle power, no wake" restriction posted on the bridge?

    I saw no power being applied on the Double Trouble at all, the anchors were stowed, what the actual heck.
    And 9:10 ... precious!

    How much would it cost to fix the yacht that hit the bridge? $150k?

  • @Jeremy64444
    @Jeremy64444 4 місяці тому

    I reckon the fridge blew a circuit breaker and the yacht lost engine power and steering . Leading too it hitting the bridge.

    Your piece on Double Trouble you missed out the most important footage when an inbound yacht ignored the flag waved from the boat the divers inspecting the damage to the bridge protection.

    Is the police boat assisting or on weekend holiday? Sorry but valid question from my point of view. No light signaling for the seafood not to be a jerk?

    The boat is "Double Trouble".... The bottom puncture is close to the water line. The captain must have know the height of the bridges before he attempted to sail up the river?

    • @eSysmanSuperYachts
      @eSysmanSuperYachts  4 місяці тому

      Well the height changes at different tides (times of the day).

    • @masterwatch
      @masterwatch 4 місяці тому

      @@eSysmanSuperYachts The captain would (or should have known) and accounted for tide height and times. Tidal rivers like that are very tricky.

    The 'spikes' on the bridge protection are clearly designed to inflict major damage to soft-skinned hulls.

    I saw this on a channel that specializes in this location, it's called The Haul Over Inlet and is known for fast tides and monster waves. If yo look at the yachts waterline she is riding high and this is peak hightide. In that video it is suggested that the Capt. made a big mistake. It also shows a dive inspection crew hours later in danger as a massive go fast ignores dive flags and speeds by. Shortly after another crew comes out and makes repairs. Highly recommend watching this channel if you enjoy seeing very expensive luxury boats getting stuffed by idiots and drunks being thrown overboard. Speaking of, Overboard great 80's movie

    That looked like some real rookie level boat handling, not something I'd expect from a skipper on that size of yacht. No passage planning for the bridge height, and seemingly oblivious to the hazard of the current that he'd already been dealing with after the first aborted attempt at the bridge.

    YaY, Yacht, why didn't they put out the balloons? Better yet, why weren't there tires all along the fencing, second clip. The sunk boat, is it worth repair, not if the cost is over half of original worth, it's trashed usually.
