The surrounding areas aren’t much better either and don’t even get me started on all the damage and filth running down all the condos. These inconsiderate people don’t care about other people or their properties or the world around them. The nicest beach down there is Navarre Beach because it’s Gulf Islands National Seashore. I wonder how many people would still go to these places if they weren't allowed to bring or use a camera. It's great to capture memories with a camera but nothing beats putting stuff aside and taking in the moment yourself.
I love taking beautiful shots of nature (I don't have social media; it's just for my own enjoyment and hobby) so I understand wanting to capture the amazing sights of these national parks, especially since for most people, you may only go once in your life. But I wonder, if they banned picture taking, maybe it would make the experience even more special? I feel like there aren't many things we do now just for the sake of fully experiencing them. Now everything we do is measured by its potential for material value: can I get an instagram-worthy selfie or snapshot out of this? Can I walk away with some form of physical memento? I think so much of life is inextricably tied to the material now. Maybe it would be a good idea to preserve these national parks as places where we can disengage from our usual modes of living and just be in awe of nature without trying to capture its beauty or gain anything from it. I would still want to go and I'm sure many others would too.
@@chai_lattes "Measured by its potential for material value" well said... I feel like people's experience depends on that. These attention seeking photographers could have the sunset of a lifetime and call it a bad experience because their content didn't turn out as they hoped.

greeleyestateslove I think he means that the new generation is at least relatively interested in being outside and exploring the parks (even if for reasons that don’t seem to make sense to the older generation, ie taking selfies for social media). Thus showing an interest in things that are outside of existing as a purely mindless consumer (sitting at home online shopping all day or spending all of your off time inside of shopping malls, stores, etc...)
There may be some truth to that, though perhaps it’s twinned with greed. People think Instagrammers all travel for free and make lots of money. I recently met three ig’rs at the airport. They had the audacity to complain that they hadn’t got free accommodation in the town where I live. They thought their 5000 followers justified free everything.
As much as I would love to see the wave, I also want to preserve it for my children to see too. I've been fortunate enough to see many things and places my children probably will never get to enjoy.

To play devils advocate, social media makes these places more popular because young people didn’t know these places existed. Whether they are taking pics for insta or not, this is just how fast information travels now. I just got back from the Rocky Mountain National Park, and on my last day of hiking we made it to a beautiful waterfall that I had been wanting to see. I was trying to get a photo of it and this couple decided it was necessary to climb into the mountain stream and up to the waterfall to pose in front of to get instagram and snapchat photos. I was furious. I didn't get the photo I wanted and I wasn't able to wait for them to leave either, because when they did it, some other people saw and did the same exact thing. It's a shame.
I just came back from Riviera Maya. Stayed a week at a beautiful resort. I was SHOCKED at everyone spending all of their time trying to take the perfect selfie and video. I saw a few tourists that were so absorbed with making videos and taking selfies, I wondered if they were there by themselves. It was a twilight zone and sad.
I'm not a social media person, but I have gone to those National Park bc I just moved to Arizona. Remember ppl that nothing last forever, but be mindful of it so it last a bit longer.
I just came back from a 7 week trip around Andalucía and Morocco. I love enjoying places in the moment and at the same time I see how people don’t stop a look but just snap a photo and move on. There are places where I’d sit for 10-15min enjoying the scene and no one would stop for more than a minute.
I’m from Arizona. I can’t even enjoy my state’s beautiful places because of this. Good thing havasu falls wasn’t even mentioned. People don’t pay attention and that’s what they are falling off the cliffs.
Its known.. but they gotta work to get there and its on a reservation so you need a permit to get there....Much too much work for the typical Instagram idiot.
I went to Zion in May of 2019. Even up at Angel's Landing it was packed and that hike has super narrow and dangerous drops. Reminded me of the Mt. Everest pics that came out a a few weeks ago waiting to climb to the summit.
That happened to my one of my favorite secret places. You had to go even on a dirt road to get there. I went this summer there was at least a thousand people . Years ago there were nearly 20 to 40 people is incredibly what social media can do.
Heartbreaking. Put daily limits on all of them. So sad that some of those people aren't actually enjoying or being present in those beautiful parks. Just there to get 'the perfect shot'
When I got to Zion I wanted to turn around and leave immediately when I saw how many people were there. All so they can get their picture from Angels Landing. Which is a harder hike than most people realize.
You couldn't pay me to tromp all over those parks. When I head out, it's SO not to mill around with other people. Nuts to that. Will find a different location and for SURE won't say where it is.
It’s a nice experience to be there but it’s an amazing experience when there isn’t people around, you just want to be in solitude, take in the experience and feel energy of Mother Nature
Living in Arizona I’m totally fine with the increase of people. As long as you guys pick up after your selves, come enjoy this beautiful state!!! These are just the popular spots of Arizona. There’s so much more!
At first I got inspired to make cool tube vids of sweet places wherever I go in the world as a hobby , but after experiencing havasupai and horseshoe bend as well as recent places I have seen, I’ve realized these places are teeming with people, lots and lots of people, and this is not shown in these “perfect IG photos”. I also notice people would record and photograph like zombies and live their life in the virtual world for social media, and now I kind of reconsider this “hobby” because I don’t want to contribute to that. even though I spend a small amount of time recording whatever and photographing whatever , I take my first moments upon reaching these sights for myself and always take one good last look at nature’s gems before I leave to paint a mental image and live in the moment. the internet has changed a lot over the years, a lot of good and a lot of bad.
Y'all are weird. Nothing's wrong with taking a picture. Don't demonize something that's not evil. Now destroying nature for that picture is an actual issue
Agreed. People have always been taking pictures of themselves on vacation. Yes, there's more posturing/preening going on with social media photos nowadays, but at least these people are going out there and visiting the parks. The volume of people is the problem, not how they choose to take pictures.
Agreed. I think it’s great more people are checking out our parks. But they need to respect the paths and boundaries to protect these for years to come.
This really ticks me off...when people throw their trash on the ground!! 😡😡. This is so sad. We went to Yosemite last month and it was so overcrowded with people...and yes, 90% of them were more concerned about selfies and taking pictures with 20 different poses.
Double-edged sword. On the one hand, overwhelming an area. On the other, showing more people why it is important to care for such incredible places. The best answer would be to give real teeth to the parks department; things like banning cars and replacing with regular shuttles, quota systems, maintenance, education, etc. No approach will be perfect, but anyone who has been in Yosemite valley during peak season knows something has to be done.
@@Birdbike719 It varies by park. Yellowstone entrance fee at the gate is $25.00 per vehicle. The pass is good for seven days and will get you in both Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. You can buy a one-year pass for $50.00, and you can buy a National Parks pass for $80.00, which gets you in to all national parks in the country. If you want to know about other parks, just google it.
This story is about five or six years late. the selfies craze is a least a decade old by now. but this story did provide some fascinating places which are now on my travel must list. Adding Zion National Park and Horseshoe bend and the Wave to my must visit list.
It's ironic that sometimes I even feel like I go places just to post on Instagram or Snapchat but at same time, it's not like I really 'care' what other people post. So it's like I'm the only one that notices me, yet whats the point of going somewhere just to post it on social media when enjoying that moment would be healthier
Yes, some national parks are becoming overcrowded. However, there’s numerous things you can do to make your visit to a park more enjoyable. Obviously you can go during a less crowded time of year. However, for families with school-aged children that may not be an option. If you go during the busy season, then start your day as early as possible, or explore later in the afternoon and evening when crowds start to die down. Get out of your car and take some hikes. Over 95% of visitors to Yellowstone never venture more than 1/4 of mile away from a road, yet there is so much to see in Yellowstone away from the road. The backcountry in many national parks is well worth seeing. Another good idea is to not ignore state parks and local parks, as well as national forests. Many national parks have nearby state parks and national forests that can be just as spectacular and amazing as the nearby national park. So if the crowds at a national park are too overwhelming, then strongly consider exploring other parks in the nearby region. Unfortunately, you will likely just have to deal with the crowds in certain circumstances. For instance, the high country in parks like Glacier and Rocky Mountain NP have very limited seasons. For most of the year there’s too much snow to travel to those places. In those situations you may have no choice but to put up with the crowds.
We went out west in June and almost every park was packed. We picked up any trash we found. Grand Canyon and Zion were the 2 most packed that we saw and most tourist were foreign. Unfortunately it's harder for most Americans to visit these beautiful places. Grateful that my son is in fourth grade and we qualified for free pass. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to see all the beauty we did.
Tracy Sohl weren’t they complaining like in 2005 that national parks don’t get recognition and don’t get tourist attractions, now that they have they don’t want it
I'll admit, I learn of many places to visit through Instagram. However, I'm not taking selfies there. I'm taking photos of the scene without me in it! And between photos, I typically spend an hour or more just soaking in the view. I've been to Horseshoe Bend twice, and probably sat on the edge for over 3 hours total. I truly go to enjoy these places with my own eyes. I take photos to keep those memories forever.
8:07 yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhh...... Totally not a setup you guise! Before that scene: "It might look bad if we just let an entire news camera crew go film The Wave to all the people that try to do this stupid lottery every year. So we'll just do a fake lottery on camera so no one will question anything. We do this sort of thing all the time for Hollywood actors, children of congressmen, etc. People are pretty easy to fool."
Couldn’t wait to visit Yellowstone. Although beautiful and truly amazing it felt like Disney: crowded, people doing stupid things (petting buffalo, hello?!?!). I am glad we went but probably won’t go again.

The surrounding areas aren’t much better either and don’t even get me started on all the damage and filth running down all the condos. These inconsiderate people don’t care about other people or their properties or the world around them.
The nicest beach down there is Navarre Beach because it’s Gulf Islands National Seashore. Seas turtles and birds nest their so parts of it are protected so people can’t trash it.
I honestly wish they never made this video on the wave because these self absorbed instagrammers are going to get a clue and arrogantly deface this beautiful land mark.
warmccl No they won’t, these parks belong to the American people and they will be fine IF properly managed.
Exactly they probably just made it worse bc now I want to visit
I didn’t know the Wave existed and I want to take my kids now. I really want to run my hand over it and feel how smooth it is. I’m also curious about the scent when it gets hot. 😂
People are addicted to taking selfies. shoot just the other day I saw a car swerving in and out the lane pulled up next to it it was some girl taking pictures of herself 🤦🏻♂️
StellaR
😭 apparently girls are the ones addicted to taking selfies
Ever heard of the girl who went live on Instagram while driving and killed her sister?
Interesting reporting but I think a lot of the traffic has to do with a cultural shift from mindless consumerism.
Parallel Burrito I agree...funny how no one complains of overcrowding at malls.
I don't understand. What do you mean??
greeleyestateslove I think he means that the new generation is at least relatively interested in being outside and exploring the parks (even if for reasons that don’t seem to make sense to the older generation, ie taking selfies for social media). Thus showing an interest in things that are outside of existing as a purely mindless consumer (sitting at home online shopping all day or spending all of your off time inside of shopping malls, stores, etc...)
@@ABSVabeautifulsunsetvlog thank you!! Yeah I think that's valid a probably part of it!
It would drive me crazy if I go all the way to these places just to see a crowd of people. Solitude is part of the charm.
The amount of narcissism it takes to take a selfie is unmatched. It's weird.
Imperial Biscuit I’m sure it’s because you’re both ugly. Selfies can be fun to take
@@fudanshi575 I was told by an agent once that I had a models face, as an introvert that was my type of business. Looking back I regret not being able to make extremely easy money in large amounts.
Only ugly people say shit like this lol
@Traveler86 Love Not everyone wants to see their newsfeed full of pictures of yourself. I especially like the ones who upload a photo with the caption that they look ugly or feeling ugly just to get comments and likes. True people who know they are attractive don't need to upload multiple pictures just to get comments. You're not a celebrity.

I’m from Saudi Arabia my 4 favorites places i wanna visit in the US are the grand canyon(feels kinda like Saudi but MUCH much bigger lol) and then rock n roll hall of fame, venice beach and finally a good southern steak restaurant.🇺🇸 ❤️
Rock n roll hof is ok, Venice beach is absolutely terrible. Palace verdes in CALIFORNIA is much better. Go to pismo beach you can ride 4 wheelers on the beach. Grand Canyon is amazing. Check out Golden Colorado, absolutely beautiful. Venice is a complete shithole
Venice beach smells like weed always
Lol, the guy literally said , “This part is solitude and the other (horseshoe bend) is a zoo.” 😂
So?
We are living in a Black Mirror episode.
what is the obsession with taking pictures of yourself? I already know what I look like. Take a picture of the site, not yourself!!!
Yeah those crazy fat bitches with crossed eyes and toung out
Linda B 🤔 well I’m not the type of dude to take a picture of myself for likes on social media and when I do upload a picture to Facebook it’s so that my friends and family can see what I’m up to
Most people take pictures on their cell phones and never print them out
I on the other print them out...I’m 25 and been to many many places I have no kids right now but I want to show my actual pictures to my children when they get older
I worked at a nursing home and the old folks had beautiful pictures of themselves when they were young...some where on the wall and some in a photo album
I was like man I should be doing that, you know taking more pictures of myself heck even hire a professional to take pics of me
Once you die you die and if you have children and grandchildren don’t you think it would be nice for them to look back at your old pics and make them wonder of how your life was and how you were etc (but I’m not obsessed of taking pics of myself all day ok let’s make that clear)

These remote places look busier than Central Park in NY city ....
To play devils advocate, social media makes these places more popular because young people didn’t know these places existed. Whether they are taking pics for insta or not, this is just how fast information travels now. Humans are innately flawed but I think nothings wrong with exploring these areas while treating them with respect
except their not treating them with respect. Adults and kids don't, I see it all the time.
Yeah, the trash left behind by these visitors was a major point
Too many people cheapens the land. Instead of preserving they are destroying and bringing their trash and large families getting in the way followed by Chinese mega groups. Its terrible.
you don't need social media to discover that place is like this exists. With printed media a lot of people would have found out, just slower

Zion National Park had become the new Disney world of nature parks.
If you want to enjoy the Grand canyon you have to go in the winter now.
Don't forget a warm jacket.
The Grand canyon with a little snow dusting is unbelievably beautiful!!
Does it really get that cold?! I always imagined it as a desert.
@@amistry605 you can Google Grand canyon snowfall and look at the photos. It's beautiful. It usually melts by the end of day which makes it hard to plan around if you don't live nearby.

When we went to Zion, there were also huge long lines for the shuttle buses. I joked out loud about making commemorate T-shirts that said "I survived the huge lines at Zion.
There are sooooo many national parks in the US with spectacular views. Stunning natural wonders.....
Don't forget state parks too. NY in particular has alot of great state parks including the Adirondacks, Catskills, and Niagara Falls (yes that's a state park NOT a national park)
Catch-22: We tell people nowadays to not consume as much and travel or explore and to have more fun with experiences.
*but don’t record or capture any of your adventures 🤷♂️
Yeah considering that most Americans havent even left their own state...let alone their own city.
It's not about travel or capturing adventures. It's about leaving it trashed for the next visitors. It's about negatively impacting the surrounding area because they think their selfie is more important than keeping to a path or staying behind a railing. There's no catch-22. There's no respect for others wanting to enjoy it too.
Yes too bad I couldn't visit the Wave. It is good that they make it restricted to visit but it is so beautiful. They didnt cover the Antelope Canyon
Antelope Canyon is not a National Park it is on the Rez, but it is overcrowded also.
I went to the Grand Canyon recently and guess what...... *i didn’t take a selfie or post any pictures on social media* 😱😱😱😱
Do you want a cookie?

Yes, please! 😁 I will be waiting for my cookie.
Holdup give me a cookie too
I just came back from Riviera Maya.
I was at some of these places a couple of weeks ago and there were so many people there.
Best time to visit is when there is Spring and Fall season.
I’m glad the wave is limiting how many people are allowed.
I’m from Arizona. I can’t even enjoy my state’s beautiful places because of this. Good thing havasu falls wasn’t even mentioned. People don’t pay attention and that’s what they are falling off the cliffs.
Bryan Ibarra shut up Brian
Its known.. but they gotta work to get there and its on a reservation so you need a permit to get there....Much too much work for the typical Instagram idiot.
"Look at me!" " I need your attention!"
Or the idiots who walk around with smug look on their face like they already have your attention. I want to punch the f****** smug off their face
Everyone lives through their phones, put the phones down and enjoy life people..
Not everythibg has to be captured by a camera. I rather live in the moment and just take it all in. It makes the moment even more precious.
I'm so glad I saw all those places before the internet. People don't know how to act in the natural world or how to respect wildlife. It's really sad.

Isn’t God sooooo AWESOME with His creations?!?!🥰
I don't know, he kinda dropped the ball when he created people.
I went to Zion in May of 2019. Even up at Angel's Landing it was packed and that hike has super narrow and dangerous drops. Reminded me of the Mt. Everest pics that came out a a few weeks ago waiting to climb to the summit.
I heard they may be limiting the numbers allowed on Angels Landing trail. Bout time.
Yes. I go to get away from people. For solitude and quiet. Not this. I can't even stand it when people play radios at campsites!
It’s a nice experience to be there but it’s an amazing experience when there isn’t people around, you just want to be in solitude, take in the experience and feel energy of Mother Nature
This was before covid-19, imagine how bad it is now.
They increase visitor ship on the wave, it will erode it. It’s sandstone...you can already see the impact.
Living in Arizona I’m totally fine with the increase of people. As long as you guys pick up after your selves, come enjoy this beautiful state!!! These are just the popular spots of Arizona. There’s so much more!

The right way to see Nature is to see it through your favorite UA-camr's Channel. LOL
Those same parks are promoting themselves on social media 💁🏻♀️
How about start charging higher prices and setting limits on people and how about reservations.
Maybe they should construct a suspended walkway over the wave instead.
Better to close it for ten years
People will throw trash over the side and fall off the railing while trying to take pictures.
@@pocitobuddie6916 You're probably right. This is why we can't have nice things.
I've lived in Utah for 10 years and have never been to Zion, after watching this report I don't think I'll ever go.
I love Zion. You just need to approach it in a different direction. You can find solitude in Zion at any time of year.
What if you took some photos, and then enjoyed the scenery after?
Then you did both things
This really ticks me off...when people throw their trash on the ground!! 😡😡. This is so sad. We went to Yosemite last month and it was so overcrowded with people...and yes, 90% of them were more concerned about selfies and taking pictures with 20 different poses.
I remember the quintessential tourist of the 50's. Hawaiian shirts, sunglasses, Brownie cameras...nothing new.. just more of us.
Mike Btrfld this is the first reasonable comment i have seen like really there is nothing new about people taking pictures when they travel lol
There are literally hundreds of giant buses full of Chinese tourists at both Horseshoe bend and the GC. Un-freaking believable.
Who doesn’t want to take pictures when they’re at the Grand Canyon
Pictures of their own faces?
polifatts family photos
Yes, yes, take pics of the Grand Canyon!!! Not selfies constantly!!
Yes! Totally agree!!

The "look at me, look at me, please look at me, I'm a somebody, even though I hate myself, so please like me" syndrome.
So let’s start charging for entry into the parks. Even a $1 donation per person could help with clean up & staff. It’s less than a cup of coffee.
The most popular national parks already charge for entry. Grand Canyon is $20-$35 depending on vehicle type. Yellowstone is $25. Glacier NP is $30.
@@timothyanderson2117 per person or per car?
How do we even know they're taking the picks for *Instagram* anyways?
It's ironic that sometimes I even feel like I go places just to post on Instagram or Snapchat but at same time, it's not like I really 'care' what other people post. So it's like I'm the only one that notices me, yet whats the point of going somewhere just to post it on social media when enjoying that moment would be healthier
Please keep the wave open to 20 people max. I would rather not get a chance to see it then to ruin it.
You forgot about the other Beautiful piece of Paradise in Arizona
We went out west in June and almost every park was packed. We picked up any trash we found. Grand Canyon and Zion were the 2 most packed that we saw and most tourist were foreign. Unfortunately it's harder for most Americans to visit these beautiful places. Grateful that my son is in fourth grade and we qualified for free pass. Otherwise we wouldn't have been able to see all the beauty we did.
For years our national parks have suffered and begged for visitors... now they have too many... ride the wave people quit complaining 🤪
They lack the funding to handle this large population of visitors. If they had more funds it would be a problem, but much easier to manage.
Exquisitely beautiful....
One day Ill step foot on the wave and behold the beauty for my own ❤
Any chance we can convince all these Social Media addicts to visit outer space... without a space suit?
That is breath taking. I didn’t know such beauty existed
Be careful for what you ask for, you might just get it. You advertise for them to come and they did.
Tracy Sohl weren’t they complaining like in 2005 that national parks don’t get recognition and don’t get tourist attractions, now that they have they don’t want it
I would go there get my Instagram picture but also explore and take in the amazing beauty of this world
If I lived anywhere near those places, I'd have already set up a business. Big financial opportunity.
Hard31337 like what? I live near these places and it’s very restricted and many businesses near these places are fairly desolate
We went to Bryce and Zion 2 weeks ago, and this is most of what we saw, in terms of people.
Remove all guard rails and take down all access rules. Let nature take its course. We would all be better off as a species
I know, right?! "Look at the big bear, he's so cute...."
