I love the Maidstone area. My family has been camping at the State Park forever. I hear those loons in my dreams. Next year we’ll hike out to Unknown. Great video, thank you.

I have many many fond memories of camping at Maidstone state park as a child with my Mom and Dad. It truly is a beautiful place. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and have fun adventuring to the pond! Best wishes.

When I first read this vid's title, I barely recalled hearing of Unknown Pond from back when I was researching for my very first woods outing/small game hunt to the NEK (West Mountain WMA) in early November of 2021, so I was really stoked to see that you had made this cool vid. At that time, I remember seeing this tiny, remote and obscure pond way down on my custom topo map and thinking, "Man, that little pond looks way off the beaten path - I wonder if anyone ever even goes there". Small world! 😲
Great seeing other true woodsmen/women not afraid to venture deep off trail - the best way to more fully enjoy the big north woods, IMHO.
Thanks Kevin for taking us along with you to this fine little backwoods pond in a wild and beautiful part of my native former home state - a pond that 99.9% of even resident Vermonters will likely never get to see in their lifetime. But thanks to you we now can, even if only from our laptops! ATVB 🐀

It certainly is a small world!
Thank you so much for the kind words my friend. I love fishing these little, out of the way ponds and brooks. A wild 9" brookie on the end of my line is more exciting to me than catching a 36" lake trout.
Those colorful little speckled trout are absolutely beautiful, although fragile. I always use barbless hooks.
If you ever do venture to this little pond, bring a paddle. 😉
See you on the next one my friend. Best wishes.

Nice video Kevin. Too bad you didn’t catch any fish. There must be trout in there since someone took the trouble to haul a canoe and small boat in there. A good place to pack in a small inflatable raft. I enjoy this type of exploration video. Keep them coming. Thanks for sharing.

It's crazy that someone would leave a canoe like that out there

      I know! Incredible!
It is out in the middle of nowhere so I'm sure almost know one would ever find it. And if they did, it would be a bear to get it out of there.

When did you go? Before or after the flooding Monday?

I can’t believe someone left their canoe, must not be a popular place.

It's extremely hard to get to. No real trail and no roads. The shore line is thick with brush and bogs so it doesn't lend itself to good casting. Thanks for watching my friend.

Been thinking about a 14 foot New Tricks. Do you still like yours? Most of my trips will be on slow moving rivers.

Thanks for this video. Funny that bing maps refers to this spot as cow mountain pond, which is a duplicate of the same named pond near granby. However google maps has it correct. Wonder if there is a separate trail to that camp?

Interesting about the name? Not sure if there is another way into that camp but there must be? If so, it may be private or new. As it is not on any current map of mine? Thanks so much for watching. Good luck my friend.

@@kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586 one year later and I went up there today, using the easy and open path to that camp via the road up the other side of this pond.. I dont fish but there were 3 giant splashes in the short time I was there, so i think there are things to be caught in that pond!
