Welcome to Kevin, the wandering woodchuck!
Just to clarify, "Woodchuck" is local slang term for a Native Vermonter.
I was given this nickname many years ago while hiking Vermont's Long Trail from end to end in the fall of 2001. My apparent accent gave me away as the only "native" Vermonter on the trail at the time. I adopted the nickname wholeheartedly.
I do not consider myself as any sort of expert with survival, bushcraft or any other outdoor sport. I am simply an average guy in love with the outdoors.
I invite you to join me in my adventures all over New England and Canada.
My interest include as follows... Camping\\woodcraft, hunting, fishing, Skiing, Mt biking, Backpacking. I also enjoy testing my outdoor skills in a more traditional manor. Utilizing wool blankets rather than sleeping bags, canvas tents instead of nylon, candles in place of flashlights, mastering the art of building fire, bow drills, flint and steel etc..
Thanks so much for paying me a visit.

After the amazing adventure we all had last year, we decided to return! Only this time with my Dad. My father was a big part of my love for the outdoors. As a child, I remember him heading out on grand adventures in northern Canada. I was to small back then to be able to join him. But this time we got to enjoy the adventure together. He has taught me not only to "Never stop moving" but also tha...

Something about the sound of rain on a tarp.Glad I joined you on your little adventure. I could almost feel the dampness and inhale the smell of the woods. This is the first time I have come across your channel. I subbed right away. Good luck to u and ur canine buddies
What brand canvas tarp is that please? And what kind of knots did you use to tie your lines? Great video, tyvm!
Wife and I have been to Pittsburgh several times and we have yet to see a moose. 😮
Just found your channel. Great stuff, bud! Subbed. 🤙

Looks like a great spot! Happy 4th 🤝🏻
Nice video thanks for sharing...FYI...might want to pitch tent tight to the ground to keep out drafts
Watched your videos (and others) last year before my sister, brother, and I did the Traverse in July. I especially appreciate seeing which sites are most desirable. Thank you. Low's Lower Dam was (and still is) being rehabilitated so we had to carry a little over 2 miles on a dirt road to reach the Upper Dam. Other than a couple people coming out from a day paddle, we saw not a soul for 48 hours. Lows Lake was our private playground. Since the Lower Dam is still off limits, we are repeating the trip this year along with my friend and my brother's wife. We doubled all our carries and will likely do so again, and we are adding another night so we can take more time on the lake. Like you said, it's not about the miles, it's about the experience.
@@tomgebbie6294 thank you so much for watching my friend. Glad you enjoyed it. Love the feedback! It's great hearing about others adventures. After all, we are like minded individuals. Best wishes and safe travels. Hope to see you on the next one.
I think it was a grass carp? I caught a couple of those a few years ago in the Adirondacks. I had to look online to see what they were.
It looks like they dumped the stone but hadn't spread it out yet. Please tell me thats the issue lol
I agree with you. That center pole in that cooker needs to be about 6 - 8 " taller.
Nice video. Happy foraging!
Thanks so much! You too! Have a wonderful week my friend.
What brand/size axe 🪓 are you carrying to cut and split your firewood?
Thanks for watching! Th axe I'm using is a 2lb Council tool, bearded, 18" handle.
Thanks for sharing this with us! Wonderful as always! Would love to join you on a trip sometime. I’m not a newbie paddler so you wouldn’t have to worry. I grew up in Vermont. Vermont is where my heart is. I now live in New Hampshire. Not far away at all.
Sounds like fun! Thanks so much for watching. Have a wonderful week.

Little perch are delicious.
We gotta get dad to incorporate an off season workout program. I just cut my bushes in the yard and couldn’t stand up straight for 2 days. Dad will be back!
So true. He's been working on it since I filmed. Thanks for watching!
Only thing better than a good dog is two good dogs. You got it made Brother. 👍
I agree totally! My dogs are my best friend's for sure. Have fun out there my friend.
A couple slivers of Vermont Cheddar would’ve made that breakfast absolutely perfect! Love the videos Man. Gonna watch em’ all!

@@kevinthewanderingwoodchuck2586 You still want to meet up sometime ? I’m leaving Saturday for seven days in the Adirondacks .stoked !
That is a neat little stool , I like the tripod stand too to mount over the fire , gives me an idea to make one. That is awesome job on getting that fire going, I may have to try that I believe I have some Polypore in my shed that I got off a birch it has the same consistency of Chaga. I really want to find chaga to make some tea and now this too lol. Have a great weekend my friend.
Thanks so much for watching! Chaga does make excellent tea as well. When brewed, it looks like black coffee! Best wishes my friend.
Another great video buddy!
Hey Kevin your channel showed up on my recommended video list and didn't take long before I was hitting the subscribe and turning on notifications, great to get out with your Dad. Yeah I lost my SAK from the early 80s , I have anew one from the late 80's and still running strong although I thought it was gone on a video last winter but found it after. Great relaxing video
Thanks so so much for your subscription my friend! Truly glad you enjoyed it. Hope to see you on the next one.
Hey Kevin, great job starting the fire. Pretty amazing fire starting technique. I think all the work you put into it warranted something better than ramen noodles, like maybe a nice piece of steak grilled over the fire. Was the chaga pretty dry or had it recently been found. Also, does it matter if the brown, or black portion of the chaga is rubbed against the maple log? Keep these good videos coming. Thanks for sharing.
You are absolutely right! It should've been fellet mignon! The chaga was dry, I had it it my brows bag for a month or so. It works well though! Super simple. Thanks for watching my friend. Best wishes. Hope to see you on the next one.
New Sub. Cheers from the South Carolina Lowcountry!
I've had the fantasy that I'd paddle from source to sea in one trip, at retirement, but i now have a daughter who's interested in joining. We threw it out there to make it a 4 year plan before she graduates high school. I'd love to get some insight and advice on preparing for the trip.
I suggest you read a few books written by paddlers who paddled the Connecticut River from the beginning to end. It starts up in Northern New Hampshire from a bog at the Canadian Border and flows to the Long Island Sound and ends at Old Saybrook, Ct Takes about 7 days to finish. Quite a few have paddled this. Check some canoe and kayak web sites they are a good source of information. Good Luck
Parabéns pelo vídeo. Sucesso e boas vibrações
Thank you kind sir!
Love the Mcgyver reference, and I think I have the camper and the hiker Swiss Army knives still. I will have to look. Thanks for the pen and the sticker. My bike rack is finally on the car and the sticker is shining on it. See ya on the next video, your favorite physical therapist, the Nimble Giggler.
Love it! Have fun out there and thanks so much for watching!
awesome Kevin we will have to add this to our fire building skills this summer..
It's super easy! Thanks for watching!
It is so cool that you can do this with your Dad! Your wood boat is very pretty and the seats look way comfortable ! I've been searching for a tarp-bug shelter combo. for summer. Vermont is such a beautiful state! thx bro! 😎
DD Superlight - Bikepacker Mesh Tent a.co/d/fPm8kcJ
Hello, I hope you are well. Do Fireproof Groundsheet (Stove Area) and outer tent match each other well? Can insects, pests and similar animals easily get in? Please reply, this issue is very important to me, thank you.
I do wish that the fireproof groundsheet came forward a bit more than it does. I put a small peice of tin directly under the stoves door to help catch sparks. It may not need it, but it makes me feel better. As far as pests go, I didn't purchase the inner mesh tent primarily because I plan on using this tent mostly in the winter. Although I must say that the ground sheet has excellent coverage and "overlap" inside the tent. The screen doors are great. Smooth zippers and extra small mesh to keep even the smallest bugs out. I would feel comfortable using it during bug season without the inner mesh tent. Just my opinion. Feel free to ask any other questions. I'd love to help in any way I can . Have a wonderful week!
I'm a little late to this video, enjoying your channel... but just a rather important note: Tylenol is acetaminophen, not aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid). You give ASA for heart attacks. Tylenol will just make the heart attack victim feel less ouchy as they expire... Totally different medication. Really important note!
Thank you so much! Love learning. Have a wonderful day my friend.
Okay... WOW. I haven't seen or read about this before, I thought I'd read most of what has been written on firestarting. Thanks! Subscribed. Cheers from Toronto.
So happy I could add something to your bag of tricks. Best wishes my friend.
Outstanding! Never seen this done before, now I have. Thanks Brother! 🔥🤘😎
I always try my best to bring something new. Not easy to do these days! Thanks so much for watching. Best wishes my friend.
Pretty darned cool fire hack! Who would have ever thought, eh?! And just when I thought I had seen it all, lol. Terrific B roll of the Fiddleheads and the Eastern Newt! Good seeing you out and about in the ever-beautiful VT woods again. Thanks Kevin for sharing this nice outing and the very interesting and unique Chaga friction fire tip. ATB 🐀
It works so well! Way easier than a bowdrill fire. Have fun out there my friend and thanks for watching.
