UA-cam is sadly #1 - Their incompetence is astonishing. They have claimed copyright on my videos with my own music as well as music I paid to license. They have also asked me if I wanted to make a copyright claim against some channel I had never heard of for music I had never heard before. Just amazing.
So much questionable content on UA-cam yet the educators are now under fire for unknown reason. Keep up the fight 😎

Some youtubers, fed up with UA-cams perpetual incompetence, inconsistencies, and lack of integrity, have moved there.
UA-cam are astonishingly inept, you can't report bugs, things don't work. Starsky Car had a hardware synth demo taken down as it contained a filter sweep, to demonstrate the filter, and they awarded copyright to some unknown band from 2009 !! Like filter sweeps hadn't been used a gazzillion times through the 60's, 70's, 80's, & 90's - how can something that stupid happen,.. but it happens again and again, so it can't be accidental.

Power corrupts. Give someone the ability to control free speech, the overwhelming majority will. Idealists will never accept this, so we get to deal with it every other generation or so.
They know they're ruining their reputation they just don't care because it's not like people have any reasonable alternatives to go to, that aren't also pushing nonsense.

I used to review goofy movies. I had an audience of two, sometimes even three people who would enjoy my videos. UA-cam kicked my AstroTurf from here to Sunday with violations, notifications and refusals to post my content, no matter how little I used the footage. I gave up. I was not doing it to make money, I just wanted to have fun. It was not fun. Keep fighting the fight.
Innit! I tried something like that once YT just gave me a strike for complete BS reasons. that's why I don't do it for fun anymore YT will unpredictably Strike me for nothing. even then I have another channel which I need for a writing project. got taken down for no reason and I had to Email support to get it back up. This happens all the time on the site and it will stay that way.

I just post the weirdest "music" that doesn't sound like anything else, no cover songs, and only use my own video and pics, and have about 0 engagement with anybody, all despite posting probably 100 or so tracks, and I don't think there's ever been a copyright anything, AFAIK. So, it depends somewhat on the types of material you post. YT should notify people exactly what caused the copyright issue, and then provide the tools to edit that out of a video (assuming it's not "the entire video" basically). Considering how much money they make off the backs of the popular creators, it seems like a reasonable service for them to offer, as part of their exchange for the generous vig they receive. IMO, that's the least they could do. I think they just don't want to put forth the effort. Like with the periodic scams that happen... they should be more proactive about providing tools to combat those, especially when it's blatant and saturated, like the Telegram👈 scams. Anyway, good luck.

Keep fighting the good fight, my friend. I work on a channel that is a bit smaller than yours but it’s already hard enough to make money even without roadblocks like this. When extremely questionable and selective age restrictions get dropped on you, it makes it even more discouraging. But you make extremely high quality content and it’s extremely appreciated, informative, and increasingly necessary. Press on my friend!

Making videos for these people in high stakes, high stress jobs to watch and unwind to, learn and share information with, encourage to explore their creative side with, amplify productivity exponentially because of... check. Ya man, you may want to rethink how much and why we as your audience value what you do so much that we spend our precious time watching the result of your honest and hard work. Hats off to you! You and a few other wonderful individuals have sincerely helped by getting me through and/or over humps in my creative journey I would probably never have achieved on my own. I saw a youtube video, (I forget which video), but the content creator said he got a copyright strike because he used a filter sweep fx sound in a synthesizer demo. How can someone copyright a filter sweep, it's not even a song, it's just a sound.

Instagram did that to me and I had the same feelings.
i imagine it depends on the details of each particular case,
but in my case the same thing - strikes on my music - actually originated from one of distributors that i used a couple of times for small releases, mainly just to test the UI and how they approach distribution several years ago.
since the entity which issues a strike may often have a different legal name or may be a subsidiary to the distributor’s company, it may be further confused about where the issue originates from.
once i’ve figured out the source of my cases, it all came down to logging into my distribution account, finding those ContentID claims towards my own channel and dismiss those. the changes then became visible in YT’s account within a couple of hours.
so in case of getting similar strikes it’s generally a good idea to take a moment and try to remember whether it can come from a distribution company you used a while ago and stuff like that.
but yeah, i heard different stories about those claims coming from some shady practices - working especially good with cover songs / interpolations / remixes, but i wouldn’t be surprised to hear that it may be used against original content, since the industry is quite fucked up in general on multiple fronts, ngl lol.
so my advice unfortunately is not a universal one.

3:22 - Same happened to me - got a warning for using my self composed and sound designed song in a video, because someone else claimed it. I appealed to it, giving all the data proofing that I created it all - instantly got a strike for it that states: If I do it again, I might lose my account and everything associated to it will be deleted. I'm too scared to upload anything to youtube anymore now. Seriously.
I worked in a Hospital for many years literally saving lives. It was so unsatisfying. I would do anything to be able to make a livable wage from youtube but I am a horrible content creator and cannot build a niche. But I am here on this platform trying. I am showing up. Congratulations on all that you have accomplished on this platform. 💪✊🙌

As a music producer with a little over 10k subs on this platform (and I love each and every one of those people the "abatrary number" represents) the thought of not being able to engage with the audience I've grown to love over the past 2 years is horrifying. I understand UA-cam is a private business and I understand getting people to the platform is UA-cams goal, but I always feel like I'm trying to balance what UA-cam wants with what the audience wants. I Eventually started just making videos for my audience, UA-cam be darned. It's been a rewarding experience for me, and the love for content creation has come back. You're not alone, the exact same issue pops up every now and then with all kinds of youtubers, and not only in US/CA. The worst of it isn't the 'guess the rules empirically' or the changing rules over times, it's the lack of transparency. There should be a law forcing platforms to provide clear information as to why they censor a piece of content : a clear identification of the offending content, and of the way this breaks their unpublished rules. I can't imagine how stressful this must be.
It's not only UA-cam. CD Baby recently "censored" my recent album art even though it was 100 per cent original.
The whole idea of the Internet was that it was open access, "no gatekeepers". 20-odd years on it's a corporate space where private companies can make any decision they damn well like. They own it, end of...

While I empathize with the frustration inherent in the case of corporate v. the individual, this was a masterclass level response video. I'll be sharing this with friends who aren't even into sound design/music production, just to do my small part in helping you recoup the lost revenue from the restricted video. In closing, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything at the start of this video, because I would've spat it out almost immediately. Again, well done, Cameron. And both middle fingers up at UA-cam.

As a long time viewer, I can say that we appreciate your dedication to offering insightful, entertaining and unique content. As the sole creator for a small channel, I can confirm that navigating the minefield that is UA-cam has left me emotionally scarred as well. I have been copyright struck for featuring my own music in my own videos, as well as having to defend the use of my own artwork and video footage. UA-cam requires you to sell your soul, commodify your art for content, no swearing, speaking about certain topics, showing of some content, or even the ability to post your music in some cases, without having your pay removed, all whilst the big corpo news and Jimmy Fallon's can do whatever they want. I think I’m speaking for most of the people who watch and enjoy your content when I say we not only appreciate your transparency and enjoy your humorous takes on serious issues, but we are also here with you in outrage at UA-cam’s policies from either other people’s experiences and frustrations or our own as fellow creators (for those of us who are). You and Benn are a couple of my favorites exposing the flaws and frankly ridiculous systems, regulations, and happenings in not only the music industry but the art and entertainment industry as a whole. Damn… another quality video from a creator I enjoy bites the dust because UA-cam’s nonsensical judgement. Each time this happens, the urge to only stream videos on Nebula becomes stronger.
I stick around on UA-cam for the incredible (often smaller) creators that aren’t on the other platform, but the only way to affect policy change on this platform seems to be decreasing traffic.
I feel ya. I recently started a Twitter account. I used it, perhaps, 10 times. I was informed I am permanently suspended now, because of abuse or something. No. That did not happen. No matter. Still forever suspended; and still no response to an appeal. ...because that makes sense.
Update: they did respond. Apparently, according to their team, I did violate a rule. No idea what rule. No idea what example.

With great power comes great responsibility. UA-cam and other big Corpos are definitively in a monopoly-esque position and that should change the rules quite a bit. This, this is exactly why they should adhere to the 1st amendment ngl. They aren't a private platform, without the public they wouldn't exist.

Thanks for sticking up for the "little guy" UA-cam needs to do better. After 2 years and more than 400 videos, I am already considering alternative platforms... This is discouraging, to say the least. Ironically enough, I was just 100% cleared for being monetized, yesterday (out of all days) Watching this unfold definitely took me down a peg, but this video brought me back up a bit. Great work!
UA-cam ran an ad for UA-cam TV on this video for me, like do they really think a video about how YT is acting poorly is a good opportunity to ask for money....ik no one is probably manually placing ads but its kinda hilarious it happened
