quite possibly the best halftime the Jukebox has ever done
Still watching 10 years later!! Best halftime show ever!!!! Little kids reaction is pure joy!
WHOA!!!!!! Now that's what I'm talkin about. "The Human Juke Box" showed out on this one.
Brother Lawrence Jackson!!!! You know you BAAAAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
kEEP ON KEEPING ON. You got the GIFT, and you gotta use it.
that was a beast!
GO SU!!!!!!!!!! Great job.... As usual...
THE #1 BAND RATED BY USA TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was a great show.!!!!!!!
the Box put it down like none other....Good Job Mr. Jackson!
i was there they sounded great as usual
GOT TO BE SINGLE BEST PERFORMANCE EVER BY A MARCHING BAND!!!
fantastic coordination
Consider the fact that many in attendance had never a "traditional" marching band, compared to the corps-style of many high schools and colleges. Add to that, a packed house and the Human Jukebox and you've got a recipe for excitement. It was obvious that the crowd really enjoyed the show.
I noticed that too. It was awesome. ;)
Wolfe
Epic! Ther's no other word.
This is the best halftime show in marching band history!!!! Period
best halftime all year
HE DID IT HE DID THE MOONWALK.....HE DID IT
Thank you!
Man that felt like yesterday. I am proud Rajun Cajun and go to most games when I can. That was the most fun I ever had at halftime. Grambling is coming open the season but our stadium has been demolished for reconstuction so not sure how this season will work!
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!
awesome video!
Over 300 comments....and, Over 66 THOUSAND views in less than a week.
I see the reigning Champion of HBCU Clips has returned.
The People Want SU.
"S"
Doesn't that just warm ur heart? I didn't catch the kid's remarks the first time. Anyway, after MJ's death, I had a funny feeling that SU would pull out this routine from the 1995 archives. The band and the Dolls performed it superbly even though it appeared that the dolls were 2 dancers short. And the crowd's reaction was more energetic than back in 1995. It's amazing how one person (MJ) has had such an impact on American culture! Great job, SU!
The "S" on their chest stands for SHOWTIME! You best believe it does! The THRILLER PERFORMANCE begins at 5:13.
BRAVO BRAVO!!!!
Superb show from, "The Human JukeBox."
so cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOW dis video impressed me its tha first video i seen SU do a field show great job
Bruh, look at all of the people STILL IN THE STANDS!
What i wanna know is how the hell did the UL Lafayette band feel walking onto the field after a performance like that.
lmao ikr
Like Nicholls State band did after a Southern performance back in the day.Whitefolk went home hating themselves.
Bass Line Southern is terrible, as is every other HBCU band.
He crazy if he think the best band in the land voted by the people is terrible
DarthYutsi please keep your ugliness to your damn self. thank you.
We love you MICHAEL J.JACKSON forever!!! We miss you!!!! from Italy!!!!
Amazing.
That shit was beast. lmfao
Looking good SU!!
thats... AWESOME
Good isht! They Repped hard!
The Jukebox is coming back STRONG this season. It's always cool to see HBCU band come to a PWI and still have the crowd in the palm of their hands, and in the south no less. And I'm really feeling the new drum major...he made the entrance his own. The dolls were good but I think they can do a lot better. Ending dance sequence was a definite crowd pleaser. Great start to the season!
You really can't go wrong with Michael Jackson (R.I.P.)
If you can appreciate this kids reaction and smile, you need to check your pulse.
Southern made my school UL-LAFAYETTE look bad. GO SOUTHERN BIG UPS TO THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER EVER MICHAEEEEEEEEEEEEL JACKSSSSSSSSSSON. Loved the tribute.
I am a UL@L fan; this was an awesome Southern halftime performance.
As an alumn of USL (now UL). I was at the game. We sat with several SU fans and had a great time. We loved the half time show and thought they did a great job. Good luck with the rest of the season. And, like I told the young lady next to me. We may have won the game, but you guys won the half time show.
I still look at this show. Man I give respect when respect is due.....
6:42 "Mom, Ma! He did! He did the Moonwalk!"
Priceless, I love the SWAC
props from UAPB
This band had the whole crowd singing along with the music!! The amount of energy at this game during SU halftime performance was crazy! People didn't start leaving for refreshments until after SU finished they're show! Truly the best band ever!
THAT WAS THE MOST AWESOMEST MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE IVE EVER SEEN! NO ONE CAN TOP THAT EVER!!!!!
Its stuff like this that makes me so proud to be a SU JAG! =)
Awesome show, but peep the kids reaction when the band does"The Lean" and when "Michael"n does The Moon Walk. Pure honest excitement, undeniably Michael Jackson can bridges all gaps. I just love that kids happiness.
That was the best halftime show by any band ever !!!
I already reserved my hotel room at the Hampton Inn & Suites 161 Spring Street 3 blocks from the georgia Dome.
why would ANY1 dislike this beautiful performance? such a great honor and tribute to the only King of a kingdom w/ no frontiers = Michael J Jackson!
I took a louisiana college tour to 6 louisiana colleges this week nd my last day down there we went to southern....i loved it...nd all I kept talkin about was the band(bandcampwasinsession)...BEST BAND N THE SOUTH...
Rock Stars!!!!
i love this band
I was there. It was their 1st game of the year, Check out this same band at the 2010 Honda BOTB and see the improvements. They started really good and ended up outstanding. Great job Human Jukebox. They can't touch this!
That dance rouutine was A1!!!
Yes Sir!
Represent Southern University well at the Saints Game on sunday Jukebox!!!!! We know you all will show out!!!!
Y'all made MJ proud!!!
I watch this video over and over again. No one does it better. The formations were excellent. I did not attend Southern, but I must give them their props. Great job!
Seeing kids inspired is a great thing. I agree. Great job SU.
To all of the ULL fans that enjoyed the show, thank you for your support. To those who did not, your loss. When will we learn to just enjoy our differences, and leave the hate out of it!!! OldSchoolMarchingJag.
The band sounded good...and looked good on the field. I hope they keep it up. Nothing beats precision marching AND good tone quality
best band in the swac, and that's coming from an alabama state alum
A Big Thank You to every one who put their efforts in the making of this. It was incredible :)
that was awesome lol
Excellence!!! You can even here the crowd singing along too!!!
that was good there
you hear that little kid screaming "HE DID IT...HE DID IT"....Southern just recruited him for band about 10 years down the road...lol...Good show SU!!

That was awesome. Great job!!!!!!!!!
Southern's band goes hard,I went to one of their football games against FAMU.
Dam i got to see it live at the Saints/Detroit game. Thank you SU for providing the entertainment and the same chills i got from watching the performance.
"He did it! He did the moonwalk"
Probably one of the best I’ve seen them do 👏
I was there!! Amazing show!
southern. wonderful. amazing. loved it.
good job SU
A trumpet player that crabbed during 1980 but met you a year earlier in California on UCLA's campus when SU was at the Rose Bowl. I was at the Rose Bowl with the Mc Donald's All-American band and we stayed n the campus with SU.
Very awesome tribute to that wonderful man, Michael Jackson!
this was awsome!!!! i wish i was there to see that i would have cried !! this was great!!!
Band practice was HELL!
I love that the crowd is singing with the band.
SICK!!!! You guys are amazing! great formations, nice sound. no complaints here
AWESOME PERFORMANCE!
now THAT was fly!! Southern's trumpets got some of the cleanest screamin i've heard and those sets were amazing man, keep it up!!
This is an amazing performance. 5 stars
They sound good as shit. Dont know one do it like JSU,SU, and TSU!!!
Geaux Jags !!! This was an awesome show. The precision reminded me of Grambling in the late 80's.
Was at this game/show. Was an awesome game, Cajun's kicked some arse. I was in a state champion HS marching band, and this show was something else to watch. Very entertaining. Still like to watch more traditional marching shows, but this rocked.
Very cool! I know MJ was watching over and smiling! :)
I'm doing well. I'm in Washington, D.C. I'm checking flights for the Honda Classic to be held in Atlanta on January 30. The Human Jukebox is scheduled to be in attendance.
Beautiful fieldshow!!!! No One Does It Betta! Cant Wait Till I Graduate HS An Be Apart Of My #FutureCollege
I was in the grass on the south end of the field. Awesome show! It was a win-win...Go UL and SU (band)!
That's real talk SU1998. Everybody has their own unique trait that works for them. Comparing the traits is pointless from a win/loss point of view.
That's what made the Bayou Classic so special back in the day (before it got so commercial). Two bands battling in a musical city that embraces each and every style of music is incredible.
I don't know what DCI competiton some people are talking about, but I never been to one with 60,000 people before. I been to a few BotB with 40K+ but I never seen that many at any DCI event I sent to. I musta went to wrong one
eggmaster40 I like DCI as much as any fellow, but you can't really compare the styles of marching. I highly doubt Contras could ever hope to perform like these Sousaphones can with the way SU marches. Percussion in these types of groups also tend to use straps instead of harnesses so that amps up the difficulty as well. I love DCI as much as anybody, but it's not the absolute best just different. Another thing I don't like is when people judge Sousaphones in these show bands for being "blatty", well guess what, ITS AN OUTDOOR GROUP WHO CARES, IT GETS THE PEOPLE EXCITED!
they wouldn't sound so blatty or sound like shit for lack of a better word as an ensemble if they would just tune. it would not only save the players faces but make them sound so much better. and im pretty a contra player could easily handle anything they are doing better than any souse player. straps instead of harnesses make the drum sound like a bag of shit no extra difficulty just puts more feet in the sound and untunes the drum faster. everyone is open to opinions but atleast think before you voice them.
I did think about my opinion before I voiced it. So have you actually marched in a band like SU before? Also about that tuning bit, as a well seasoned tuba player I will be the first to tell you that it's pretty much impossible to play in tune as a section thanks to each horn having different intonation tendencies. Even a section that uses the same model of horn won't guarantee perfect intonation, and because both Contras and Sousas made today have no true on demand slide pull capabilities no section will ever be in tune regardless of volume. The only section that's capable of perfect intonation are the trombones thanks to a tuning slide.
~ Collin "who has never played a tuba of any type that has perfect intonation" Thomas
Mikethegamer928 I agree with the coonass on the tuning issue. Southern band has always played loud, but now they tend to blast- thus the flat blatty sound from the sousaphones. They should get some better tubas and stop blasting those horns. I don't think you have a clue on what it takes to play and march/rock- SU style. SU band sways as it marches, and the music is written to groove with that movement. It's hard to position that mouth piece on the lips to produce a strong sound while doing that. The best DCI band and Southern could play the same tune- one would sound stiff and hokey and one would jam. Depends on what you like. There is a reason people tend to gravitate toward the Jukebox-
+CorvetteCoonass I know I'm late to the party but here's a good question. Do you think DCI and SU style of marching and playing is similar? To me it's two completely different styles all together. Before you ask yes I have marched and I'm from New Orleans and my school is or was a feeder school for SU. We march in their style in Nola. Dci is a lot harder and a lot more movements on the field shows.
Loving su they sound so good. Hope I see them live this year.
Now this is how a band posed 2 look!!!!!....omg....u dont see stuff like this in NC!!!
I purchased my plane ticket today. Now I need to locate a hotel near the event and make reservations.
They the best!!
