I have been using this rig myself for a fair few years. I use it also for cats on the french rivers. I swap the sub float for a ping pong ball, with tiny steel balls from a 12 bore cartridge inside it. This rattles loudly in the flow, even more with a livebait. The trick is to pass a length of tubing through ball this must be sealed with silicone before using.
