Recently on Reddit, I posted a poll about which video I should make: / hordecore
Taking the votes into account, also interests of my friends who wanted to learn Mongolian throat singing, I present you "how to throat sing in 3 easy steps!" =)
It might take some dedication to get it better, it could be a bit challenging for girls but personally, I've seen a live show of a Tuvan woman, musician, and artist Sainkho, who can do a few forms of this culture. Another person was a female student I met a few years ago. She used to learn how to play morin khuur with a few boys when she was young, the boys were learning khoomei. They teased her that she can't sing it because she is a girl, so she got irritated and practiced morin khuur with khoomei at home. After some time, it seems she was able to sing as well as any other person. There is another woman who can sing it as well, she plays in Tuvan folk-rock band Yat-Kha :)
In any case, let me know in the comments below if you have questions or ideas. Oh, one detail I forgot to mention in the video is that this type of singing is specifically called "kargyraa". The other one is called "isgeree"(or sygyt in Tuvan) is quite difficult to learn, I still haven't mastered it fully. I practiced this on the street like you said and the cops were called on me. And then I got my very own padded soundproof room to practice in. Worked like a charm. Thanks.

Thanks Batman. I’ve been a big fan of various throat singing styles for decades. Finally found some one who can teach it. I’ve played guitar for the last 30 years, but never could sing worth spit. This is going to be fun, & it’s going to freak my friends & family out. Can’t wait.

Tip : If you know khöömei, it makes it much easier to learn sygyt, which makes it easier to learn khovu chylandyk, which makes it much easier to learn khovu kargyraa, which makes it much easier to learn dag kargyraa, which makes it easier to learn dag chylandyk. If you're a metal vocalist, khöömei can be directly translated into a "arytenoid" fry scream (technically the arytenoids and false-folds, the two main terms are misnomers) and dag kargyraa can be directly translated into a false-cord scream (again, misnomer. Uses the arytenoids, false-folds, and the aryepiglottic folds).

My cousin taught himself to do this without any tutorial. He just came over one day and said “look what I can do!” And started throat singing and said he just imitated what he saw on tv or something and was proud of being the only one in the family who could do it.... he’s in for a surprise this thanksgiving 😈
