My mom made this salad in her pale green Tupperware bowl every time she made it. I hated the peas too 🤭 but I would give anything right now for her to still be here and for that 7 layer salad.
Thank God that we create precious memories with those that we love because when they transition we can think back on those beautiful moments. May you’re mom’s soul rest in peace ❤️
I hate peas too! Blech. I just swallowed them whole because they just grossed me out. My mom made it in a yellow Tupperware bowl. LOL. my mom is gone now too. So I have her bowl but I haven’t made the salad since it’s just me.
This is pretty in that large bowl but there is no way you get to the bottom so I think either make in a 9 x 13 like someone said or use a few layers of dressing so everyone gets the dressing with the salad otherwise the first people get all that goodness on top. You could use a clear baking dish or casserole for a smaller sslad.
I do the same, and I usually take this to church. If it is in a deep dish, then all the good stuff is taken from the top and everyone at the end of the line gets just lettuce.
I also love layered salad! I put the peas on top of the lettuce still frozen.....the lettuce then becomes incredibly crisp! All the rest is done just like yours....delicious!!
What a beautiful salad. That is a good recipe for summer cookouts. I enjoy hearing about Michael. He really has a great personality. I love seeing him with you in the kitchen. Yall make such a cute couple.
I always make 7 layer salad at Christmas time. Looking at your ingredients, mine differs quite a bit. Chopped iceberg lettuce, thawed and drained frozen peas, diced celery, diced onions, chopped green pepper, layered. Completely seal with miracle whip, sprinkle a little sugar on top, top with cheddar cheese and chopped bacon. Wrap up and refrigerate overnight. Yum.
I haven't made this salad in over 20 years but I did make in for Memorial day cookout this year everyone loved it . My " new " must have at all gatherings .
You are such an awesome lady. Everything you cook, I love. My 91 year old mom watches your show daily. On June 11th, she will be 92 years old. Paula, please send her birthday wishes. Her name is Earlene.
For everyone wishing others a "Happy" Memorial Day...Please remember...it is about honoring all of those who have died in service to our country. It is not a "Happy" occasion. I know that people say it is the unofficial start of summer. Go ahead and have your picnics etc, but please remember what Memorial Day is all about!
This is what I LOVE about you… the tip about lettuce! I love you teaching me how to cook so my family is eating great. I don’t have my mom to ask any more. Grateful you are in our lives. ❤️❤️I choked on a fresh limp basil leaf in a Thai restaurant one time. Strange how leaves can act like plastic wrap.😁
My dear aunt made 7-layer salad every year for our family reunion...IT WAS SO GOOD! She finally gave me the recipe, from memory, but mine never tasted as good. The dressing was missing something! Now, I'm betting I know what it was, it's the sour cream & lemon juice in the dressing! Thank you for sharing your recipe. Think I'll take you suggestion & add some celery & bell pepper next time.
Mrs. Paula, that salad looks so good. I learned from you about letting it sit in refrigerator for about 8 hours or so. I liked that pro tip. Thank you for that video. 😄
Have never made a 7 layer salad..going to try it. What I have done is use the himlich maneuver on my son when he was about 2 years old. Choked on an orange segement. Talk about scary…still gives me the chills just thinking about it. Thank god it worked!🇨🇦❤️
When worked in a casino buffet years ago in Lula MS. A lady walked up to me in distress choking; had already turned blue, i spun her around and did the Heimlich a couple of times, she finally coughed up rice that’s what she was choking on. I was so thankful that I had learn to do that. I also saved two small children the same way.
Learning these common medical procedures is very important because like u said we never know when we might need to use them…Especially if you have young kids around… Way to go Michael kudos to him.
Love this salad. Sometimes I go a little wild making this salad… It may have seven layers or it may be 12 just depends on what is in the fridge that needs eaten. The dressing, cheese and bacon makes it delicious no matter what the layers are….
My Mommas had romaine then sliced celery then sliced water chestnuts green onion chopped boiled eggs then crumbled bacon then a dressing of mayonnaise with red wine vinegar and sugar. Divine. Refrigerate over night.
I make this salad a lot. Changes that I make are: layer in a 9x13 casserole dish (easier to serve and everyone has one),I cut grape tomatoes in half instead of chopped. it is always a hit whenever I make.
Oh gosh...that looks SO good!! Would love to try it some day. The only 7 layer salad I've ever made consisted of Romaine/spinach, sliced hard boiled eggs, cooked chopped bacon, thin layer of chopped red onion, layer of frozen peas (thawed), sealed with plain Mayo and topped with shredded cheddar. It is so good. Serve it often with Easter Ham. I bet your dressing would be so much better than plain mayo.
I make this but I use water chestnuts soaked overnight in soya sauce then drained as the bottom layer then lettuce, green peppers, celery, frozen peas then I put a layer of brown sugar then layer of miracle whip then cheese and bacon on top as well
Our seven layer is for Easter, Memorial day, 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and some times just for dinner. Our seven layers: romaine, frozen peas(thawed), chopped tomatoes, red onion, hard boiled eggs chopped, shredded cheddar cheese and fried bacon crumbled, the dressing: 1 1/2 cups dukes mayonnaise some red wine vinegar...to taste and sugar to taste and pepper. 7 layer salad in Kansas.
I would also add the sugar to the dressing. It needs it to balance the lemon juice. I always add a small bit of sugar to potato salad or macaroni salad. It enhances the flavor in the same way as salt does.
I need to spend more time on UA-cam! I just loved accidentally running into your UA-cam channel! Well most definitely I will be spending much more time on the UA-cam channel just to see more of you!!!! ❤️
Great presentation in a trifle bowl - use a big spoon and a little effort and you’ll be able to get it all! May have to dig in again but all worth it. Thank you Paula❤️
You are my favorite, hands down. Always have been. I just made mine. Ty,so much. So many tips. Next time I will buy croutons, I always use romaine because regular lettuce like iceberg doesn't set with me. Your so sweet.
want to say thanks for the tip and the way your cutting the romaine . the truffle bowl is pretty I'd love to get one. that sure is a beautiful layered salad. I'm not much for relish or turnip ( red and white veg. ) . need to make this soon. thanks Paula and Theresa and Eddie !!!
A good friend and boss of mine found and made this recipe about 40 years ago and I've been looking for it ever since! It was fantastic, and was early the same except I think that she had more layers of the peas & Mayo layers than your recipe ,and it was theauo by itself with just a thin sprinkling of sugar over each of the mayo layers ...it certainly is refreshing and tasty!
I've always loved seven layer salads. They are so good. I've made them before. 😁🙂 Love salads. Don't eat enough of them like I should. Glad Michael saved that man. I'd want !ore mayo. 😁 Loved when you said. Know what I mean Vern. Oh my gosh. 🙂 Hope your shoulder gets better. Think that's more then seven layers now. 😁 Yummy.
I'm glad Theresa didn't get the brown off. Everything you said about it about the milk and standing it up in water and wrapping it.... complete news to me! Thanks Paula and Theresa!
Even though the presentation is pretty, I found it really hard to get the salad out of the bowl. So I started making it in a flat glass dish. Have a great weekend Paula!
Finally made it to Paula Dean’s restaurant in Nashville! An awesome experience! The meal was totally delicious and the perfect amount of food served for my husband and myself! The server, was amazing! Made my way to the store afterwards and made sure to buy some of that Paula Deen seasoning!
I made my first so-called layered salad this weekend but listened to the advice of others (on another website) and made it a TOSSED salad instead ... mostly the same ingredients but thoroughly mixed / tossed. I love bacon but decided to go a little healthier and used diced turkey ham for the meat. And I allowed it to sit in the fridge for about 12 hours for the flavors to meld. It was a hit, even from my son-in-law who is not an enthusiastic veggie eater :)
I use ranch dressing and french onion dip. I also like eggs and different deli meats. Usually it ends up as 15 layers! People ask to buy it. I just make it out of love. It cuts like lasagna. So dang good.
I love this salad and have made it fr years. It also is gone at the family gathering. I have stopped using Miracle Whip it tastes different. I use Hellman’s and sour cream with a spoon of sugar. Frozen peas are a must.. Lots of dressing is a must. This is always a hit and people take some home so buy that cheap. … plastic ware at Dollar General. You will never get your Tupperware back. Yes, i am from Tennessee and 69 years old. I collect what I call antique Tupperware. You knocked it out of the ball park Paula Dean.
I make this salad for the holidays. I use 1 c Best Foods mayo and 1 c Miracle Whip mixed together for the dressing. There is always about 1/3 c left over that I add it later when salad gets about 1/2 way esten so the rest still gets some dressing.
Looks so yummy! I just made this the other day. Was so hungry for it. Try adding water chestnuts too. I also like celery instead of radishes. So many combinations. Thanks Paula!
I have happy memories of a dear friend assembling this salad, years ago in rural Michigan. T’was delicious! Thank you, Paula, for bringing it back. I can’t think of a nicer time than a family occasion to serve a traditional, pretty summer dish full of nostalgia for many. 💜. I am happy to see you looking well and sharing your food. You have a good heart, Paula. God bless you. I might try to use a couple teaspoons of Monkfruit Sweetener rather than any sugar, to keep it safer for blood sugar issues. Has anyone tried that?
Seriously though! Who knows how many lives your sister-in-law didn’t save leaving you with that memory of the lettuce! I thank you and won’t ever forget it! 🙏🏼☺️
Good advice regarding the lettuce choking hazard. I didnt have kids but if I did I would also be worried about my baby choking. I love watching Paula Deen because I feel like Ive been invited over by my aunt to cook and she tells me stories. Plus I love her accent Yall.
Dear Paula love seeing you again! There was a layered salad set in aspic that the grandmother of a friend used to make that started by laying a foundation in gelatin with bits of colored peppers (roasted), dill and other bits made into a beautiful design. then the rest of the layers of veggies and cheese, ham salad, chicken salad etc or she would make it with tuna salad and salmon salad and shrimp salad and at the end she would cover it with more of the aspic mixture which I believe was broth based with chicken broth or fish broth respectively. Then she would place it in the refrigerator to set for 24 hrs. Warm it a bit in a hot water bath to loosen and turned that thing over on a plate..... It was a sight to see!!! a work of art to see the clear coating with those designs and see how beautiful it was when she cut into it and served you a slice. Does anyone know what that salad is called? I have never seen it since. It was a sight to behold! Pretty to look at pretty to eat!
Paula, dear, you should keep your bare hands away from your mouth and nose while working in the kitchen. Between licking your fingers, wiping your nose with your hand, then watching you handle the salad throughout...ugh. Surely you know better.
I remember when I was younger somebody made 7 layer salad and it had sugar in it. Reminds me of coleslaw at Lee's Famous Recipe. You gotta have the sweetness.
What would your favorite part of this 7-Layer Salad be?
The peas & the "frosting" ;D
The dressing and the fact that YOU made it! ❤️
Paula didn't washing her hands after wiping her nose on multiple occasions 🦠🤮
I love you Paula!
The dressing with the peas & bacon 😋

That sounds like the receipe I used to make and I lost my receipe so thanks for putting it on here!👍😋
Iceberg lettuce has NO nutrition, you might as well eat cardboard
That sounds like a more traditional 7 layer salad 😊.
Mine is ice berg lettuce cauliflower scallions radishes fried bacon chopped celery topped with helmans mayo mux when ready to serve
Do you use red onion? Or green spring onions? I think either of those would be good.
