Queen - Brighton Rock

- From the 'Sheer Heart Attack' album, 1974. Written by Brian May.
Brian May wrote "Brighton Rock" in 1973 but they couldn't finish recording it for the second album so they did it in the third. The song was originally intended to be a duet but Freddie Mercury ended up doing both female and male parts of the vocals. The song is probably best-known for its lengthy guitar solo interlude. This featured May's technique of using multiple echoes used to build up guitar harmony and contrapuntal melodic lines. The studio version only contains one "main" guitar and one "echoed" guitar for a short section, but live, he would usually split his guitar signal into "main" and two "echoed", with each going to a separate bank of amplifiers. Originally the solo was part of the song "Blag", from May and Roger Taylor's previous band Smile. May would then play it live in the Queen song "Son and Daughter", but that never happend.
Lyrics:
Happy little day, Jimmy went away.
Met his little Jenny on a public holiday.
A happy pair they made so decorously laid.
'Neath the gay illuminations all along the promenade.
It's so good to know there's still a little magic in the air.
I'll weave my spell...
Jenny will you stay tarry with me pray
Nothing e'er need come between us.
Tell me love what do you say?
Oh no I must away to my mum in disarray.
If my mother should discover how I spent my holiday.
It would be of small avail to talk of magic in the air.
I'll say farewell...
Oh rock of ages do not crumble!
Love is breathing still..
Oh lady moon shine down,
A little people magic if you will.
Jenny pines away writes a letter ev'ry day.
We must ever be together..
Nothing can my love erase.
Oh no, I'm compromised...
I must apologize if my lady should discover.
How I spent my holidays...
"It's so good to know there's a little magic in the air, I'll weave myself"
Weave my spell 🤑🙏
❤❤❤ this album!!
This is a great album.
Queen is music itself.

Hahahaha 😂
@Dp.slayer ah. Another man of culture.
great vocals!!!
Possibly Roger Taylor's best ever drumming performance is on this song, in terms of sound, technique, feel, complexity and so on.
the foot pedal 'boss- had a 3 second delay'...I used to play this note for note, chord for chord,.its not hard,....but you need to be a Queen fan to feel the changes.brilliant song
0.8 second delay ran twice.
0 Dislikes, Thats the way it should be, LONG LIVE "QUEEN"
Part of me wishes there were more lyrics, but limiting the amount of singing makes it feel more “magic.”
This seems to be IT!!!!!!
@zxzxznapalmdeath Thats a good point. I remember back in the day reading an interview that Brian May had about using that delay for the affects on this song.
QUEEN WAS THE BEST!!
Best version is on Live Killers.
Freddie Mercury goes to Hogwarts
