The exact same car that I bought in 1976 when it was for sale in a used car column in my local newspaper. It was being sold by the original owner who bought it new in 1969. I can remember that it only had 30,000 miles on the clock. It was in immaculate condition and was the same red colour as in this video. It was such a great looking car, and as a 20 year old new driver I couldn't have wished for a nicer first car. I sold it in 1981 for almost the same price that I paid for it.
Nice 😊👍
@Classiccarbscouk I should mention this was in Canada, where there weren't many of these cars. The Ford Mustang got all the attention, but for me the Capri was a far better looking car.
@pauldg837 glad you enjoyed your capri. And yes, its definitely a good looking classic car, massive bonnet.
The mustang is awesome!!
Welcome back dudes. Long time no see. Hope you're all well. That old girl is beautiful.
In my eyes this is the best looking Mark of Capri what a fantastic find ! Love it. 👍😄
Thank you buddy, we think so too!!
The MK1 was the true Capri.
That car is happy to be alive. Spot on mates!
Thank you! 😊
Had two of them both 74'. Made one a hotrod. They dont take curves very well. 145 mph with the 2.8 v6, not to shabby.😊
Superb early example ! The owner must have stored it fairly well to survive the last 55 years in such a solid condition! Great video! 👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for watching, it is a very good example for the age!
So satisfying watching a carburettor being refurbished..so many old school cars limping along with neglected carbs.
Couldn't agree more!
This is what I like it's watching you guys fumble just like you did when you were working on Kate at the beginning, the other stuff you do is interesting but this SHIT is the fun stuff. It's like watching Laurel and Hardy
Thanks Gary!! Glad you enjoyed this one 👍👍
@@Classiccarbscoukgive us more 😘
Its like looking at my 1st ever car...I had a "H" plate, 1600XL, same colour etc. Mine was a bugger to start too. :D
Very courteous of Ford to provision a lovely tool tray in front of the radiator since they knew it would come in handy. Well done, guys!
Haha!! Very true!!
It's amazing how that has survived in such good condition , stunning car
We think so too buddy, a great example 👍🏼
Yeah all USA spec cars. We're rusted out. By 1979
I'll bet that sold faster than the proverbial HOT CAKE.
What a find that was, probably the last true barn find, one owner since new. OMG !
Love the shape of the MK1 Capri.
This is classic car gold to some lucky buyer. Even though it will need the full treatment,
it will be worth it.
Thanks Gary, a chap is coming from Ireland to see it on Tuesday. It is indeed a nice car and superb project!
Really enjoyed,,cheers.,,I had a mark 1,2000,gt,exlr,jreg,v4,,,thanks for the memories,,all the best,,TOM
Thanks Tom 😊👍
Good to see yee back. And nice capri.
That carburettor looks in better nick than that jacket 🤣
Lol!! Thanks
I had a 1969 Capri Mk1 back in the day, my dad handed it down to me, it was the same colour but with a black bonnet. I modified the 1600 X Flow out to 1700 and fitted a race head, Rally cam, 11:1 pistons, twin 45 DCOE webbers, massive 4 into 1 exhaust headers. It was about 160+ HP, with a 2000E Cortina gearbox. It would out run 2.8 Capri Mk3's. It used to surprise the guys at the Capri Club. It would rev passed 8000 rpm. Nice to see another in such good condition.
Sounds similar performance to our 'kate' and with the same gearbox 👌
Your perseverance paid off !! - Great Job!!
Nice to see an Oldie run again
Yes! Thank you!
Capri`s never die they just " Act up a little bit "
This is like resurrecting a mammoth. WOW
Haha!! 🦣
Remember.. Capri..best car Ford ever made. (I've got 3 grand so far saved up so few more months to go it's gotta be a mark three as I'd need a lot more than 6 to 9 grand)
👍👍
That was a great video I never could see it start , I thought a lightening strike wouldn’t start it just shows cross flows are bomb proof 😂
It really took a lot of effort, there was barely any compression to start with
Bless up Mano 🎉
Thanks Buddy :)
Only just seen this...what am I like eh😜. Bloody brilliant vid and such an adventure trying to bring her back to life. I, as we all probably were, were willing every time that key was turned, then finally....shes alive 😊😊. Loved the self healing lights and even the horn...it was like her coming out of hibernation, bloody brilliant feeling I bet.
Anyway, hope you've sold her by now, she's quite a Capri.
Anyway, dudes, hope you're all good and look forward to the next great vid 😊👍👍👍
I learned to drive in one of these in 1977.
well done guys superb achievement awesome stuff
Thank you! 😊
These cars are historical artifacts. There should be something like the National Trust looking after these cars. And these guys are doing a marvelous job
LOL!! Yes, and thank you!
Well done lads, great revival, cant believe you sorted that carb.
Amazing thanks for posting !
Glad you enjoyed it
Great work lads.
Thanks 😊
Nice one, great to see you get this Capri up and running. if you look at my small picture it was my Capri MK1 3ltr gxl manual imported from Germany back in 1986 I had several of them over the years back in the day. Cheers
Thanks buddy, I do have a 1973 GXL also, 3L , sort of red/orange colour (can't remember what the colour red is) and it's in pieces and needs putting back together.
Thanks for the comment 👍👍
Great video !! Great work getting it going, looks good for 55 yrs old.
Great to see you guys back at it. 👍
Thank you! 😊👍
Excellent revival, awesome video Rusty Love and guys 😃👍
Thank you!!!
@@Classiccarbscouk My pleasure 😊😊
Nice Capri, great to see you guys back. Can't find those here in the states I think they all went to the scrap yards. I would to have another one
Good to hear from you Ron, thisbone is for sale, although it is right-hand drive which isn't ideal for you in the states.
Trust you are keeping well buddy 😊👍
@@Classiccarbscouk Doing good here. I think a right hand drive would be interesting to drive. the expense of transporting it here is way to much. hope your doing well out there
Well done guys you saved another classic.
Thanks!
Yes, dudes.....lovely capri, great to see you all... been a while hope your all well 🙏
hey hey their back!!!!!!could be a sticky ring dudes....so cool to see the dudes backs in action!
We're back on the grind again 💪 😎 😁
dudes me and garak are lovin it,@@Classiccarbscouk
If Mannys saying 6-7K then I'm guessing its owes him about 3-4K
He's being honest about the welding issues and clearly spent time and money on the Old Girl in the video👍 so a must-have for any MK1 Capri fan (including myself) had the same car back in the day ( Early 1980,s) only negative being the total restoration costs!! 🤔🤔
Just my Humble opinion ...............................👍👍
Yep, it needs tons of work, but it's all original, 1 owner car.
@@Classiccarbscouk Your Trully a Greek Man🤔
No lie with the Greeks as my Dad use to Say ( Mr Zorba,s in Liverpool)
Proper Shit my pants , not scared 🤫Just my Dad trying to be a Greek🤔🤔 1981 my 16th Birthday 🤫🤫🤫🤫

Great work gentlemen 👍
Thank you kind Sir 😊
Great job, dudes.
Nice one boys brings back many great memories owned a Mk 1 XLR 1600.
Thank you! :)
Lovely project for someone.
Yes!
Cool car , long time no see 👍👍
how long was this car parked up. is it all original from new. or was it restored some time ago
Put a 302 in there
Blast from the past...you had to do all this just to go to work in the morning 😂.
LOL!!!
Great video. I had the MK 1 facelift model with the overhead cam engine. Drove it to lake Como northern Italy in 81. I remember leaving the motorway somewhere in Switzerland changing from 4th 3rd and the gear stick came out in my hand. Managed to secure it back in with the flimsy ribbed metal cup that held it in place. WWU573L was the reg😄I think!
That must have been very scary and disorientating.. Glad you got it back in the box though! :) Fond memories eh?
@@Classiccarbscouk 😄great memories
great video guys enjoyed it love a capri
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the comment too :)
Brilliant work chaps......well done 👌👍
Thanks Paul!
Nice one dude's ' getting it started . That's a nice Capri 🤟🤟👍
Thanks 👍
Beautiful machine
It sure is!
I was the 1000th like ! These cars were so cool, especially the V6 or V8 (?) models. I remember in high school in the 80's there was a green Mercury Capri with a built motor.
Thanks for the 1000th like!!
V6 and yes, v8 also. The latter was the perana from Australia.
I think the Perana were a sth African model with Aussie sourced parts.@@Classiccarbscouk
Great video, nice see it running again , brilliant content, keep up the good work.👍
Thank you so much 👍
I"m jealous... 😂 Pretty cherry ❤ Good to see You again.
Greetings from Poland Guys! :)
Thanks buddy, greetings from brierley hill 😊👋👍👍👍
Can’t beat a Crossflow, cracking little engines.
Nice car to do up and get back into the family of capri
I remember years ago when I went almost upstate Florida to Duneden from Ft. Myers with my brother to pick up a $700 '77 Cadillac Coupe De Ville.
For its age, that looks near mint
Does need work, but a very good example for its age
Hobnobs and Coffee and a bit of carb cleaner boom it works 😊😊😂😂. Your looking well its pretty hard to kill a cross flow. Its a cracking project car. 👌👍
Thank you Ali! Yeah hobnobs went down a treat, washed them down with a fresh brew!! Hope you and Tina are keeping well, and looking forward to the spring with tinkering in the dry :)
id fill the pots with a acetone and tranny fluid to help briing the rings back, then try a little oil down the bores, to help the rings seal to get it started. brak cleaner should NEVER be used to try start a engine.
Great video mate, thanks for sharing. By the way you have a hole in your fleece 😊👍
Thanks 😁👍🏼
That car is in amazing condition, was the barn carpeted, with central heating and a de-hum?
no, he just looked after it well over a 50+year span, and it shows
Big up rusty love from Jamaica
Nice !! Great revival
Thanks!
When you’re trying to make compression it’s better to spray starting fluid in the carb than dumping gas or brake cleaner that will wash the cylinder and make less compression.
Thanks :)
Excellant video editing manu.the capri looks lovely
Thank you Peter ❤️
Great video manny
Thank you 😊 👍
Love the car, is your jacket from 1968 as well
That engine sounds sweet..
Eventually it sounded great 😁
Dude! Love the patina on your jacket, 😛Good to see you back.
Lol!! Mums washed it now, and it's going onto a frame 😁
😂@@Classiccarbscouk
Cool content on this one,
Thanks, glad to hear, this was my aim 👍
Great work guy's, I used to have one just like this one reg was WRE 840G bought it in 1981 kept it for ten years sold it for the same price I bought it £425 had a great time with it sorry, I sold it now. Thanks for the video !!!
It's been a pleasure, thank you for watching and encouraging comment 😊👍
Heeey, Manny! Cool car!
Homemade Lube:
Ford ATF + 30% Acetone.
Hey William!
I got it almost right 😂
Really good video
Glad you enjoyed it
Great Video like the old days bro.
Glad you enjoyed 😊👍
Nice going well done ❤🛠🚗
Thank you!
Had a love affair with these cars for longer than I can remember, still got it! She looks great kidda , would love to own something like this, but sadly being a pensioner with health issues sadly no longer an option , had 7 in the past , great to work on, good luck , mick
Thank you Mick :)
My first car was a Mk 1 Escort POJ 612G (I bought it in 1980 for 200 quid). Same era - wonder if it was from the same Ford Dealership given the close registration number? (I lived in Derby then).
Very likely! This car was bought brand new in 1969 by the guy I bought it from, who lives in Birmingham area. So, very possible.. It's funny how you still remember your reg since then!! :)
Kent engine one of the best 👍👍🏴🦊
Bulletproof!
In for a mot. Sorted dude’s 😂
🙌👌🤞
I had an H reg 1600XLR back in the day. Great car. I had a J reg too.
Very cool!
Old boy owned this from nearly new I think , always sat outside, well for the last 30 years I would say & sat in a driveway behind the house wrapped up for nigh on 8 years next to a Nash Metropolitan.
Been freshened up a few times & had some clag in it .
At least it didn't get scrapped 👍
There was an overseas market one called a piranha and MK 1 Granada also , an they had V8 motors . Great vid as thee early ones looked the best as did earlier Granadas 👍
Thanks , yeah the Australian perana ones, beasts!
@@Classiccarbscoukweren't they from SA
@johngibson3837 oh yes, I think you're correct 👍👍
Great video ...enjoyed it enormously!!
Thanks so much!
Man I love these videos. Proper miss the accent being up north these days. Goo on arrrr kids 😂👍
Thanks buddy, appreciate the encouragement 👍😊
When I saw this I wondered if it was the car owned by an acquaintance at school many years ago.
I had never seen a bright red Capri before I saw his one ( also on a G plate) and none since ,until this one, despite seeing hundreds of them lined up at the factory.
I wondered if it was the same car, but when it was mentioned it was a 1 owner, then it probably isn't the same.
Infact my father had a G reg green 1600GT with a vinyl roof and disc hubcaps, as I remember.
This was indeed a one owner car, from near Birmingham here in the UK.
@@Classiccarbscouk Thanks, the one back then was in Kent.
The weather is really rough on cars over there.
Nice to see you again...
I owned a 72 mk 1 'facelift' back in '85 when I travelled the UK. Some f.cker stole it.
I loved that car.
I might have mentioned this b4.
Love from oz... 🇦🇺
Thanks buddy, that must have hurt..
This one is for sale if you want another go ? ;D
@@Classiccarbscouk I love capris, I bought a mk3 1600 after the mk 1 'dissapeared'
I would love another one, they are pretty rare in Australia and what you do see fetch huge money. Unfortunately yours would be an extreme headf.ck to get to oz and massive $'s.
I am visiting the UK in June, would love to meet you chaps.
I have been watching for a long time and you are one of the very few motor channels I have stuck with.
Its very funny and informative, well done and keep it up. Cheers...
@@ademckinlay4946 it would be a massive pleasure to meet you buddy, we are near Birmingham, our address is on Google, if it's not too inconvenient, be lovely to meet you 😊
@@Classiccarbscouk not sure if that last message went through?
Terrific, will be in touch Manny 🙃
Were you visiting relatives in Liverpool at the time?.........................................
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Manny you need to sort those mice out in your unit Fella 🤔🤔🤔🤔
Is that your favorite Jacket? :-) 🙂
Yes, my sister gave it to me as a present about 12 years ago. I must try and get some new clothes
Odd music 🤐. Good video
Hope Ray recovered fully
He did, had a hard time with his eyes throughout that week, after he had a mig welding accident and burned his eyes.. he's good now 👍
put the carb in swimming pool cleaner and water 50/50 for 3 hours then take it out and rinse then strip down.. the pool cleaner will bring it u pa treat. break cleanewr down the throat of carb is stupid. use petrol . down each bore pu ta mix of diesel and petrol about half a cup with piston up top, it will help clean up the sticky rings.. then do the next one etc leave them with juice in for about 1 hour between swapping them over then spin motor over to clean it all out ... be a good idea to ge tsome decent jump leads as they are crap.
Thanks for the tips 👍
Hey Dudes, looks like a cracking Christmas bonus for Gav if it doesn't sell. 👌🤞
It does!
Oh, it'll sell!!
Was the German Ford with the right hand drive made in Germany or UK?
What is the odometer reading?
The German capri was made in Germany. Cannot remember the odometer reading but I could have a look. Why do you ask?
Fogging oil in the bores is good
With oil we were concerned that the plugs would foul and struggle to spark again.
So wie der Motor, so sieht auch seine Jacke aus
Top goat
💪😊
Hmm!! But whats the Sills, wheel archers and Bulk head like !
Are you going to restore the capri gxl.
No, its is for sale at the moment
Mk1is the best capris ever made with out a dout fact
Agreed! 👍
Don’t know why you’re attaching the negative cable to the battery?you should attach it to a ground source in engine compartment otherwise you could blow the battery or worse burn the car down!🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧
