This is amazing. So much better than the anime. It wastes no time on the lesser battles and weaker combatants, but also, the arc itself feels more like a setup for the future of the series rather than a climactic final battle. Kefla’s power-scaled infinitely better here, being on par with Gohan, and Ultra Instinct felt a lot more like a new technique that Goku was barely able to tap into and utilise, making it feel much less like an asspull of a transformation which just miraculously surpasses Jiren in the short time frame of the tournament. Instead, Goku and Vegeta don’t even manage to “make a dent” in Jiren at all, and I love this. It shows Goku still has a lot to learn, setting up their inevitable rematch. And the fact that Roshi was the one that led to Goku tapping into UI shows that he isn’t just some fodder old man; he actually still has a place in the story and is able to connect Goku back to his roots with the Turtle School. The whole thing’s just great.
I heavily disagree that it's better the anime, especially on the "much" part like yeah certain changes were welcome but I feel like the manga cuts so much that it makes it so much less grand, like we all complained about how much characters like Roshi did and in the Manga Krillin is out immediately While kale's character is a welcome improvement, Cabba's role being reduced to being a straight man between Caulifla and Kale and then getting kicked out after putting Potara on Kale's ear and the general forced fusion between the girls is just...just feels wrong, I rather have Kale be mid then have her be good but have 2 characters be sacrificed in the process also the scale somehow feels smaller, the tournamet feels like it's basically U6 vs U7 rematch for half of it and the rest is to fill up space, then everyone is just out Also I feel like anime setting up characters and team up makes the conclusion and later parts of the arc hit much more then straight up just going to the climax with little to no build up, like with UI
@@husariuspl117Yup. And the fact that the match-ups are randomized ruins certain moments. I believe Krilin and Tien knocked out at least one competitor in the anime before they got eliminated, with Android 18 and Master Roshi taking down more. There's no scene where Gohan felt bad for that one guy with his amulet left on the battlefield. Top and Dyspo were absolute frauds, they didn't get to show their strength in the anime, and Jiren's defeat felt anti-climactic.
I much prefer the mangas version of ui. Goku is aware he’s in the state and he remember how to activate it on his own. Saying “it’s not easy” is implying he knows how to keep it and it’s not easy to do. Also how quickly he realises how to master the form makes Goku a genius and much more admirable like Z Goku. Anime Goku just gets destroyed and uses it afterwards. In the manga when he first activated it,he charged foward with a cocky smirk on his face. The slight show of emotion evaporated the aura and he got smacked. Gokus quick learning really is Showed in the manga and proves why he is a martial arts master.
Exactly I really love the way he was just able to calm and do it naturally showing how far he has come but then people will be upset for cabba reaching ssj even though they are still Saiyan but probably evolve differently from being from a different universe
The manga does several things better including Frieza being a much more smart and strategic fighter which shows his growth as a character and makes him able to eliminate all three U11 top dogs in the end in the manga ToP, whereas in the anime ToP he is his usual petty self who in the end gets humiliated and curbstomped and only serves the purpose of helping Goku.
At the beginning when beerus was play fighting with vegeta, i feel like a unique character opportunity for vegeta was missed here. After getting slammed into the ground by THE GOD OF DESTRUCTION, you survived. Think about that. The one entity you once revered to be stronger than both the likes of frieza and majin buu (both of which killed him) one who you wouldn't dare challenge nor question the power of. and now here you are. Tanking a hit directly to the face from him THAT. IS. INSANE. How could he not laugh at the absurdity. Its just like that time he and trunks were training in the gravity room and vegeta bet if he could hit him then they'd go to the park.
Several moments from this arc had me wondering about Vegeta's ultimate fate... will he take the job as God of Destruction when he and Kakarot are finally at that level, or will life with Goku have changed him so much that he just lives life out as a family man?
I love thr manga in how it was more exclusive. But i also appreciate the anime for letting specific characters like Toppo shine cause that Destroyer Mode was epic!
16:30 I love that Beerus tells Shin not to argue with Bulma. It seems like a sign of respect towards her. That or he didn’t want her going of on Shin lol.
I like the Manga version of TOP. and seeing alternative versions that Super has done. but I feel overall, the Anime did it better, especially in the second half of the tournament. Goku vs Kefla was one of the best things I have ever seen in dragonball. And of course the MUI goku vs jiren, Vegeta Final explosion against Toppo, The namekian battles, and of course the best thing in my opinion, The team up of goku frieza and 17 against jiren at the end. That was a chefs kiss to dragonball.
In my opinion, this was 10000 times better than the anime. The way sacrifices were made to help Goku along was just an amazing way to get him to where he needed to be. Rossi standing up to the literal STRONGEST opponent in the whole tournament, to Goku LEARNING how to use the technique, rather than powering up to it like it was a form. This, was a W
Both versions of the TOP are so good. Even though its hard for me to like DBS due to Goku's flanderization (seriously, why are they writing him like he's a toddler), the deep storytelling and awesome fights bring me back so many times.
As for Goku's writing, I believe it's the duality that was also brought to GT, simply reversed, as that old feel of OG Dragon Ball was demanded from the fandom Since a serious Goku in his kid body didn't please, they gave us the opposite, Adult Goku with a kid's mindset on general life
@@bathyste4560 That makes sense. Though I wish this was just a reboot in that case. It's hard to believe that this is the same Goku who grew wiser as the series continued. Do you remember how wise and cool he was in the Buu saga? And he still had goofy moments that felt so Goku. Then Super makes him immature and ironically dumber but still tries to build off all that character development.
i remember the reason why goku became dumb was because since super was catered to a younger audience, they decided to make sure that audience watches goku learn things again, by making him dumber. and from what i remember it wasn't toei, toyotaro or anyone else who made that decision, but Akira toriama. i might be wrong. they could have done that without making goku dumb maybe make sure goku knows the skills that he knew from z and og db, and the gods can teach him that he can Improve on those skills even more kinda like what they did with ultra instinct
@@suckerhat toei dialed it back more than akira toriyama wanted. toei marketed the anime more for younger new fans, while the manga, he was def dialed back from buu saga it was no where near as bad
The manga one actually feels like it's 40 mins or at least closer to it. Many battles are happening at once. I do like the end bit where Frieza and 17 made up a plan that succeeded a bit more than what happened in the anime. I don't like the negligence of krillin and tien. Krillin is like one of the first eliminated in this version. The weak characters here are weaker than they were in the anime. I liked gohan vs kefla (mainly because I feel like there's no way 2 saiyans who had just gotten ssj forms fused together should stand a chance against the main pure saiyans of u7). I liked Jiren's story here a bit better.
Wow❤🎉 This is my first time hearing of the TOP arc from the manga and I say it's quite different from the anime. Kale going on a rampage. Jiren refusing to help Dyspo and Top and the story just having an overall better plot.👍🏾❤️😊 Great video and we hope to see great videos. (P.S. great video featuring Cage)❤
@@burritocat4391 yeah but it's different. In the anime she did go on a rampage but was knocked out of her berserker state by Jiren. And as Justin said in the video, she was on the rampage but it all stopped when she fused with Caulifla to become Kefla.
4:49 This part here is overlooked by many because Goku actually gave a lot of universes a chance to survive with ToP instead of just being erased out of existence just because the Omni King felt like it.
TOP power has been one of my favorite Dragon Ball arcs anime wise, the manga kind of left a lot for me to be desired the first time I read it. The main issue I had is I wanted to see the other fighters another time to shine, instead of getting eliminated right off the bat. I think that's the main thing that made me sour throughout. But looking at this a second time around thanks to you guys, really does make me appreciate The story the second time around.
From what I know of the TOP in the anime, this is significantly better. The pacing, the power scaling, the characters no one gives a shit about, all of it. There are maybe two moments I can think of that are iconic in the anime and didn't happen here. It makes me want a proper manga adaptation of Super
The manga ending was better than the anime ending but still can’t decide which version i like more. I like details that were in the manga that i wish was in the anime and vice versa
It actually makes every character in U7 more reliable and useful in the Manga than they are in the anime. Roshi being the reason for Goku achieving UI, Frieza managing to eliminate Jiren along with Goku. Krillin being the very reason for 17 to join the tournament, and 17 wishing everyone back.
bro i thank you from the deepest part of my heart for this video, i saw it all in one go and it truly delivered, never thought I'd have the chance to "read" the manga version of the TOP but thanks to you that's different, for one last time thank you.
Gohan my boy Gohan! One big criticism I’ll have for the manga is that they do an even worse job at utilising the different characters. Everyone is fodder except the main ones. Some people get knocked out far too early!
Personally i think the buildup to the actual top is better in the manga (exhibition matches and recruitmwnt) but the anime did the actual top better (battles wise and giving ither fighters more focus) cuz everyone else is fodder unless they're main in the manga but the anime did a better job exploring em Thanks for this review been looking forward to it
I really wish they would have added the Xeno Exhibition from the manga to the anime. I, personally, think it may be one of the coolest parts in Dragon Ball manga as a whole. Seeing the Gods of Destruction all try and gang up on Beerus and him basically holding them all back. Kinda a missed opportunity, would have been pretty damn cool to see animated. What we did get in the anime. Mmm, I guess it's not the worst of all time, but no where near as incredible. Except maybe the Gohan fight. That one was kinda cool. 😎
bro oh my god they did krillin so dirty.. he's never coming back from this is he... What was the music during Kale's rampage? On that note your song choice for this video is amazing. Hits the manga's emotional beats perfectly. Most notably Kale's rampage, Master Roshi's lesson leading up to Goku's realisation (that was just perfection) and not to mention how well ultra instinct's theme (unsurprisingly) suits his discovery of it.
the two things i think the Anime has in its Favor is giving Toppo his God of Destruction time and more people being useless Fodder(which in turn made someone else shine brighter), with almost everything else i like the Manga more, its not a pure Saiyan show where Goku fights againts most bigger threats, Gohan gets his time to shine against Kefla and Roshis 'Fight' against Jiren is still one of my favorite moments of the whole Tournament. Ultra Instinct (especially Sign) looking less Bulky than in the Anime, which makes more Sense. Kales Rage actually doing something and her not beeing as Meek (i actually hated her in the Anime, Love her in the Manga)
I love kale in manga to, Her personality feels more natural and logical, She is loyal with caulfe, and knows how to do basic fighting, her rage is really a threat, the anime version is really stupid She's obsessed with caulife, coward doesn't even know how to fight, and just screams like stupid non even fun. Manga kale🔥 anime kale 🤮
@@justinsden After seeing first how Goku unlocked UI, how he mastered ultra instinct, frieza and goku fighting together in the anime the manga fell short for me.
I wondered why Krillin got yelled at in the anime when he took out like 3-4 people… But he really didn’t do anything in the manga. 😂 Tien didn’t either! And Frieza betraying them both? 😪 And Frost not retaliating and getting instantly deleted, I think the anime did it better for him😂

And the fact that Roshi was the one that led to Goku tapping into UI shows that he isn’t just some fodder old man; he actually still has a place in the story and is able to connect Goku back to his roots with the Turtle School.
The whole thing’s just great.
I heavily disagree that it's better the anime, especially on the "much" part
like yeah certain changes were welcome but I feel like the manga cuts so much that it makes it so much less grand, like we all complained about how much characters like Roshi did and in the Manga Krillin is out immediately
While kale's character is a welcome improvement, Cabba's role being reduced to being a straight man between Caulifla and Kale and then getting kicked out after putting Potara on Kale's ear and the general forced fusion between the girls is just...just feels wrong, I rather have Kale be mid then have her be good but have 2 characters be sacrificed in the process
also the scale somehow feels smaller, the tournamet feels like it's basically U6 vs U7 rematch for half of it and the rest is to fill up space, then everyone is just out
Also I feel like anime setting up characters and team up makes the conclusion and later parts of the arc hit much more then straight up just going to the climax with little to no build up, like with UI
My sole gripe of Manga UI is its anti climactic reveal
Its just like that time he and trunks were training in the gravity room and vegeta bet if he could hit him then they'd go to the park.
foreshadowing to ultra ego??? possibly?? ik its a stretch but if you consider the situation it makes some form of sense
Several moments from this arc had me wondering about Vegeta's ultimate fate... will he take the job as God of Destruction when he and Kakarot are finally at that level, or will life with Goku have changed him so much that he just lives life out as a family man?
@@tristan8940He almost missed the tournament of Power to be there when Bura was born, I think he'll reject it if he was asked
43:07
The unspoken rizz of Krillin is clearly unmatched
I love thr manga in how it was more exclusive. But i also appreciate the anime for letting specific characters like Toppo shine cause that Destroyer Mode was epic!
Blue Evolution is still lazy in the anime but I like the lead up to it better than the manga. The manga version was..... a tantrum
Am I still wrong for liking how Patrick Seitz was chosen for Jiren?? My Kami, Seitz really lives to portray antiheroes
Lore: Muscles make you slower.
Jiren: I am gonna pretend I didn't hear that.
Broly: I am gonna pretend i didn't hear that.
Trunks: I wish I can pretend I didn’t he that TvT
Manga Kale: Bet
Roshi’s final lesson is my favorite moment in TOP
In my opinion, this was 10000 times better than the anime. The way sacrifices were made to help Goku along was just an amazing way to get him to where he needed to be. Rossi standing up to the literal STRONGEST opponent in the whole tournament, to Goku LEARNING how to use the technique, rather than powering up to it like it was a form. This, was a W
Both versions of the TOP are so good. Even though its hard for me to like DBS due to Goku's flanderization (seriously, why are they writing him like he's a toddler), the deep storytelling and awesome fights bring me back so many times.
As for Goku's writing, I believe it's the duality that was also brought to GT, simply reversed, as that old feel of OG Dragon Ball was demanded from the fandom
Since a serious Goku in his kid body didn't please, they gave us the opposite, Adult Goku with a kid's mindset on general life
@@bathyste4560 That makes sense.
@@drewalexander6024 I know dude, I know
i remember the reason why goku became dumb was because since super was catered to a younger audience, they decided to make sure that audience watches goku learn things again, by making him dumber.
and from what i remember it wasn't toei, toyotaro or anyone else who made that decision, but Akira toriama.
i might be wrong.
they could have done that without making goku dumb
maybe make sure goku knows the skills that he knew from z and og db, and the gods can teach him that he can Improve on those skills even more
kinda like what they did with ultra instinct
Frieza and 17 carried U7 in both manga and anime
The manga UI version has better build up. Goku remembering his masters is a nice touch too
Not gonna lie, seeing Frost pop off on universe 9 was something I didn’t know I had to see. Even if he was tricked into using all his power.
Wow❤🎉
This is my first time hearing of the TOP arc from the manga and I say it's quite different from the anime.
Kale going on a rampage. Jiren refusing to help Dyspo and Top and the story just having an overall better plot.👍🏾❤️😊
Great video and we hope to see great videos.
(P.S. great video featuring Cage)❤
I appreciate you watching! I got more on the way!
Kale did go on a rampage in the anime tho😭
@@burritocat4391 yeah but it's different. In the anime she did go on a rampage but was knocked out of her berserker state by Jiren. And as Justin said in the video, she was on the rampage but it all stopped when she fused with Caulifla to become Kefla.
Can’t wait for everything from 21st tournemt to cell sagas and everything else in super
I got you bro 🔥💯
Yes you are right 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
I love that they gave more respect to gohan in the manga
Facts
This made me appreciate the anime even more. Thank you!
Damn I never realised how different the manga and anime are, it’s so cool to see the different paths
Thanks again for having me on bro, this was a great collab!! 🔥🤝
Glad to have you bro! That was an amazing collab!
Fire
Big fan !!
Buu cool
Fuck it why half of the time his voice is too bad
The video is ruined for me
Your a w UA-camr
4:49 This part here is overlooked by many because Goku actually gave a lot of universes a chance to survive with ToP instead of just being erased out of existence just because the Omni King felt like it.
I love these, I was going to read it myself but it is so much better this way. Also your voice is perfect for this.
Thank you man. That means a lot!
Yes but the 48 minutes are not respected, the manga one respects more the time limit.
@@furizasan4331still doesn’t make it better than the anime
Honestly the Manga has some cool concepts but the Anime was better Written
@@StevenJones851it indeed was not
@@StevenJones851 no it was the anime was kinda dumb with it
18:30 that actually makes me like Jiren a bit more. He never wanted to fight because he knew others were gonna get erased
For a supposed quiet 7yrs after the defeat of Kid Buu, DBS sure retconned all of that.
For a majority of the earth it was unlike it was with the saiyans, cell & buu the rest of the earth knew about nothing going on in super
Uhhh Moro literally invaded, became the earth, and almost destroyed it
Manga did Krillin and Tien so dirty
Lets go! THANK YOU JUSTIN! SIGN UP FOR THE PATREON!
YESSIRRR. I APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT BRO
Jeez the manga is so much better I had no idea
I thought only one piece manga were goated but this is up there
I have a feeling the ToP is going to be the Frieza saga of Super. Maybe not the best arc of the series, but definitely the most important.
From what I know of the TOP in the anime, this is significantly better. The pacing, the power scaling, the characters no one gives a shit about, all of it. There are maybe two moments I can think of that are iconic in the anime and didn't happen here. It makes me want a proper manga adaptation of Super
The anime gave a lot of characters time to shine the manga left out a lot of people. Heck Tien, Krillin, Roshi, and Piccolo did worse.
The manga ending was better than the anime ending but still can’t decide which version i like more. I like details that were in the manga that i wish was in the anime and vice versa
Some people just make up a perfect version in there mind
I love it, thank you. I noticed you’re using the classic Dai no Kai or Dragon Quest, which is genius. Thumbs up 👍🏾
It’s crazy how much different this is than the anime. It feels like a whole retelling of the story and I love it
My absolute favorite reviewer. I love your breakdowns. Absolutely stellar as always.
Solid video foolie. Manga version of UI/MUI will always be my favorite variant. Maybe, when BT4 comes out, UI/MUI has the blue shirt custume! 🫡
Much appreciated bro! Manga version is definitely tuff, and Im excited for the possibilities of BT4!
Sick recap and editing. Thanks you two!
I love how goku gets mui so quick and doesnt need the spirit bomb to push him to ui level
You’re so welcome bro! I really thank you for your support of the channel, and Im glad you enjoyed the video!
This is incredible!! I can't wait to see the rest of the summaries
Thank you! I got more coming!!
These kinds of videos,by you and some other youtubers made me change my mind on the manga, and now i am thinking of buying it
Why is Kale so badass in the manga but in the anime she can’t knock anyone out if her life depended on it
Let's goooo! Another amazing video from Justin
Thank you bro! Ma boy C.A.G.E is amazing too! 🔥💯
Gohan my boy Gohan!
One big criticism I’ll have for the manga is that they do an even worse job at utilising the different characters. Everyone is fodder except the main ones.
Some people get knocked out far too early!
I love the fact that there's music from Chrono Trigger playing in the background. Well done, bro
FINALLY I WAS WAITING FOR IT
YESSIRRR
there's no way lmao , i was just working on the T.O.P arc lmao. beat me to it. ggs. amazing vid man
I appreciate you bro!
well editted, goodjob! :D
Thanks! 😄
Personally i think the buildup to the actual top is better in the manga (exhibition matches and recruitmwnt) but the anime did the actual top better (battles wise and giving ither fighters more focus) cuz everyone else is fodder unless they're main in the manga but the anime did a better job exploring em
Thanks for this review been looking forward to it
No worries bro. I appreciate you watching!
In your belief theme was perfectly put to Kale. What an amazing video
Wow, thank you!
Frieza got his ahh beat by two legendary super saiyans in two different universes lmaooooo
Those robbers really thought they was doin sum tryna rob my mans🤣. Love the video bro💯🔥🔥
Thanks man! 🔥
Goated as always
I appreciate it bro
Kale was an absolute menace to society in the manga version that's for sure
I really wish they would have added the Xeno Exhibition from the manga to the anime. I, personally, think it may be one of the coolest parts in Dragon Ball manga as a whole. Seeing the Gods of Destruction all try and gang up on Beerus and him basically holding them all back. Kinda a missed opportunity, would have been pretty damn cool to see animated. What we did get in the anime. Mmm, I guess it's not the worst of all time, but no where near as incredible. Except maybe the Gohan fight. That one was kinda cool. 😎
This video is amazing already it’s great your recaps are really good
Im so glad you like them! I really appreciate you!
No problem I like db and I like your videos a lot
I just appreciate that jiren actually tried to win the tournament instead of just mediating for 90% of the time.
W Video as always bro 🙏
I appreciate you bro 🔥💯❤️
I think this is an arc that is legitimately much better in the anime than the manga
Yeah, because most of the characters In the manga was done dirty.
The only ones done right were gohan and roshi.
@@exxoloki8390I agree, I think Gohan should’ve been vs Kefla in the anime and the master Roshi moment is just amazing
Such a well made series, Its gonna be hard without akira. Rip Akira, may he rest🕊️
Loved the whole thing and thank you for doing it but…wtf with the massive VOICE CHANGE on the 1:14:36 mark?! 😂😂
bro oh my god they did krillin so dirty.. he's never coming back from this is he...
I'd love to know as well. Easily my favorite part of the video
Gotchu. "In Your Belief" from Asura's Wrath.
the two things i think the Anime has in its Favor is giving Toppo his God of Destruction time and more people being useless Fodder(which in turn made someone else shine brighter), with almost everything else i like the Manga more, its not a pure Saiyan show where Goku fights againts most bigger threats, Gohan gets his time to shine against Kefla and Roshis 'Fight' against Jiren is still one of my favorite moments of the whole Tournament.
@@happyblue4940 Kale was Timid with a temper and actually learned to control her legendary super saiyan and evolve it.
Wow I just realized how different the Manga and the animated show really is!!!!... bro they really are different af!!!😮😮😮
Ngl the anime made this arc way better with their creative choiced with the story.
I think some aspects of the manga are better, but the anime did better with MUI.
@@justinsden After seeing first how Goku unlocked UI, how he mastered ultra instinct, frieza and goku fighting together in the anime the manga fell short for me.
Nice vid keep it up love them videos
Much love man! Thank you!
I love your videos they’re great can’t wait for more
Thank you bro! I got more coming soon!

They really pulled a "hey its me, goku!" 😭😭
Also I love the fact that Goku has no idea what 17 looks like lmfao
Bro your cotent is si amazing 👏 ❤
Thank you so much! ❤️💯
I wondered why Krillin got yelled at in the anime when he took out like 3-4 people… But he really didn’t do anything in the manga. 😂
Tien didn’t either!
And Frieza betraying them both? 😪
And Frost not retaliating and getting instantly deleted, I think the anime did it better for him😂
He took only 1 person from the ring by himself in anime
I love the use of asuras wrath soundtrack in the video
w video as expected
Amazing. I loved this 💯
Much appreciated!!!
Subscribed !! My god this mad genius 🧠 ACTUALLY F*ckin did it ! Literally about to call of work on 3rd shift smoke a blunt and watch this 🐺 👑
LOL THANK YOU MAN! THAT MEANS A LOT!
I absolutely love how Beerus was the one making the most sense when they were gathering fighters for the tournament and how Friza is scared of Beerus and complying with Goku because of him
I like how Gohan was the one who defeated Kefla
47:09 what’s the song that starts here? I keep trying to find it but both google and Shazam have failed me
Love the video. Didn't know how different the Anime and Manga is.
Thank you! They definitely ARE different. Appreciate you watching!
Yes TOP what I was waiting for Justin!!😄
Glad I could do it for you!!
I'm fascinated by the changes the manga made though there are aspects I like more in the anime e.g. goku & jiren's interaction & how he went ultra instinct initially & learning more about it through his fights. I'm surprised toppo didn't go his god of destruction mode that would have made sense why he's a candidate you see? 😂
These videos are really helpful for when I forgot most of the arc
Glad to hear it man
I love the asuras wrath music in the back
