    Great video as always Mark... I´ll add an extra step in aligning RGB channels, it helps a bit if not using an atmospheric distortion corrector. It´s always a pleasure to see your videos.

      You are right - particularly with Saturn having some residual red-blue as it is so low from 51N. I did think about including the red-blue align (it is in my early videos) but as I used the ADC to capture the files I decided to simplify and skip it.

    Autostakkert has been updated and it's much faster than the older one.

    Thanks for the full work through.
    May I suggest converting to a smart object in Photoshop? Along with non-destructive editing, you can add a camera raw filter that has great tools for many of the things you address with separate filters.

      Great suggestion, I will have to go and read up on that. Quick question by reply, what is the benefit of making the image a smart object - as opposed to leaving it as it is?

    Mark, thank you so much.. Now I’m wondering if I didn’t go back and try to sharpen further as I expected to see some additional details after the WINJUPOS stacking process.. I’ll give it a go. My best images this year were from the Eldorado star party in Texas which has better seeing than I experience in Vermont and I’ll give them a go first. My brother will be thanking you as well.. as he has much better seeing and his baseline is also much better. To create pleasing photos of planets or deep sky take so many steps and with each new trick we learn, we can get that incremental improvement in quality. I am hoping this is one of those increments!

      Glad it makes sense Terri. Derotating a few images just stacks them together ready to be sharpened. Yes I can imagine the views from down south in Texas were pretty good. Talking of which, they will be even better in Florida in a few weeks, wahoo!

    Interesting. Have never taken a picture of a planet. Nebula, galaxies and star clusters, yes. But, no planets. Just bought a Maksutov Cassegrain optical tube, so I might take one soon.

      You'll have to give it a go. It's great fun as they are always changing.

    I notice you didn't run analyze before you stacked. Doesn't that move all the best frames to the front for better stacking?

    • @RefreshingViews
      @RefreshingViews  7 місяців тому +3

      I only use the Analyse for solar and lunar surfaces (where there isn't a black outline) so they can be aligned. Autostakkert still sorts the planetary video files into quality order and stacks the best ones even if you don't use the analyse button.

      Most pros, as I understand it, are using the new Registax 4 do to it's speed and then finishing in AstroSurface.@@RefreshingViews
