Raised by Wolves Season 2: Creator Aaron Guzikowski on His Long-Term Plans and Mother’s Eyes

- With Raised by Wolves Season 2 now streaming on HBO Max, I recently spoke with creator and showrunner Aaron Guzikowski about making the fantastic sci-fi series. As I have said many times, Raised by Wolves is one of my favorite series on any channel and one of the many reasons I love the show is that it’s unlike anything else on TV. If you have yet to tune in, the series focuses on two androids tasked with raising a new human population on a mysterious planet far from Earth. While there is so much more to this story, the less you know the better. In addition, Ridley Scott directed the first two episodes of the first season, and I’m willing to bet if you watch those episodes you’ll be hooked.
During my interview with Guzikowski, he talked about what Season 2 is about, his long-term plans for the show, how he still envisions a five season story, why the second season has less episodes, if we’ve seen the last of Mother’s eyes, if the radiation poisoning has impacted how Marcus (Travis Fimmel) is acting, when we might see more flashbacks on Earth, how much HBO Max tells him about the streaming numbers, who directed the second season, and so much more.
Check out what Aaron Guzikowski had to say in the player above and below is a list of exactly what we talked about. Raised by Wolves also stars Amanda Collin, Abubakar Salim, Winta McGrath, Niamh Algar, Jordan Loughran, Felix Jamieson, Ethan Hazzard, Aasiya Shah, Ivy Wong, and Matias Varela. New additions to the cast include Peter Christoffersen, Selina Jones, Morgan Santo, James Harkness, Kim Engelbrecht, and Jennifer Saayeng.
Aaron Guzikowski
How many episodes is Season 2?
Why he likes eight-episode seasons and how it has no wasted scenes.
Which of his friends and family are the biggest fans and who is always asking for spoilers?
When HBO Max decided on doing a second season did they give him additional funds?
What was his reaction when HBO Max started advertising Raised by Wolves before people watched Dune?
Does HBO tell him the real numbers of the show and how well it’s doing?
In an ideal world how many seasons would he like for the series?
Have his long-term plans been changed as a result of the writing of Season 2?
What does he want to tease fans about Season 2?
If he had an unlimited budget what would he love to add to the series?
How Season 2 doesn’t have any Earth flashbacks but it could be in Season 3.
How does it work when he sits down with HBO to talk about a new season? Does he have to lay out everything?
Has the radiation poisoning impacted how Marcus is acting in Season 2?
Who are the directors of Season 2?
Have we seen the last of Mother’s eyes?
Is he working on Season 3?

Omg I’m so sad knowing we’re supposed to have more seasons . Please bring back one of the best sci-fi shows ever produced. Just clicking and liking every video I can on this show to help promote bringing it back . I signed petition online too . 😢 💔
This series is amazing. The two episodes of season 2 were already super weird and full of things happening, I loved it!
Same absolutely, lvoe the show
I would LOVE a 10-episode season 3!!!

PRAYING for a season 3!
Why just 8?! I absolutely love this show! It just needs to be advertised as much as Bridgetown is and it’d literally blow up.
And 5 seasons are absolutely perfect, even more
The war on Earth would make a great prequel series.
Yes, but one of the themes of the story is this cyclical nature of humanity, and how what happened on Kepler millions of years ago played out in a similar fashion (with possibly some role reversals) on Earth, so the flashbacks Guzikowski has mentioned in interviews will probably be detailed and extensive. Might not leave room for a prequel. Maybe a completely different story in the RBW universe?
My favorite show ever. If I had a ton of money I'd throw it to the budget for the show.
I hope season 3 happens
I hope all five!
i hope 2 god this show doesnt get cancelled & gets 2 tell the complete story!!!🙏 its phenomenal & personally i think 1 of, if not the best tv show ever conceived of! i'm just worried its only intelligent people that will get this tv show, lets hope not🤞
I literally watch this show for the necromancer scenes. She better get her eyes back soon it’s terrifying and breathtaking!
The only reason I subscribed to HBO Max, great show! Keep the great work going.
I was quite surprised to find out season 2 was on ep 7, saw literally no promo for the show which sucks but I guess it's a hidden gem. But still more marketing can be done this show is amazing
You have to SCROLL so far down to even see it pop up in any categories
t's amazing ! with the donations from the petition they were able to put this screen " RAISED BY WOLVES WE NEED A SEASON 3 " on TIME SQUARE 🗽
My biggest wish is that the series can play out to it's natural end. It won't get canceled prematurely and end of a cliff hanger or convoluted crunched plot. Nor does it go longer than it should and have the intended functional story get warped to suit more seasons. Have it play out then if it continues start a new plot within the universe to continue.
So many series seem to end prematurely. I haven't seen much "longer" than they should be, but I never watch Lost or much on old network TV. It's just too easy for streaming production companies to cut losses by pulling the plug.
It did
The best SciFi series since years! An outstanding story with so many fresh and fascinating aspects, all set to screen in an excelent way. The show needs definitely more marketing and HBO should listen to the subscribers and go not only for season 3 but for all 5 seasons.
Best show I've seen in a long time
I'm going to have to watch it again from the beginning after the season concludes or else I'm going to go into good storytelling withdrawal. It's the best show on TV right now. I love that there are no wasted scenes. These days I fast forward through a lot of pointless scenes in bad TV shows, but this show is fully captivating.
One of the most fascinating shows I have ever watched. Bring back Raised by Wolves!!!
We need this show back
This show is absolutely brilliantly written. It is so deeply polysemic that I sometimes feel overwhelmed. The mythological and religious symbolism underlying the surface narrative is utilized magnificently, and the scientific and historical references are also subtly spot on. The closer you look at every single element of this world the more wonderfully complex it becomes in its sheer completeness.
The S1 finale had me worried we were watching the new "Lost" where the creator/writers literally had no idea what they were doing from episode to episode, by design to be fair, but S2 has proven that this absolutely is not the case. Great work, Aaron. Keep it up!
What a damn shame. Tragic this amazing enthralling science fiction epic wasn't fully realized and allowed to play out. I STILL think about this show and story. We NEED a graphic novel conclusion or main story arc plot points wrap up for all us true fans. I can't find a social media handle for the writer here or I'd show him the subreddit where a legion of fans are still devasted and clamoring for ANYTHING, ANY kind of hope for a satisfying conclusion to the story for all of us. Please Aaron, give us the outline. We'll pay for it, just give us the main story arc. We have TOO MANY questions left.
This show is Real Sci-Fi
I'd argue the point; it's certainly not "hard sci-fi ", its not obsessed starship physics, or even coherent android tech. It ventures into Horror/Dark Fantasy and the music certainly fits those genres. I mean, it just begs the question what you consider "Real Sci-fi?"
I just found out that it will be the 3rd season. Greetings from Romania!
Hope HBO gives the green light for S3! This is a big hit with a fantastic cast and story.
this show is absolutely amazing
To create so much surprises and a such complex stories, we'll that is one of the best story writing I have ever seen.
Raised by Wolves . Best show ever
I saw 2 episode from season 2, what amazing cinematographgy and beauty to behold!
Amazingly engaging, and interesting, well written tight, not a second wasted
Still upset that this brilliant show was canceled, with so much left unanswered. I continue to hold out hope that another network will pick it up.
Amazing show!! It’s really in my head. Was dreaming about kepler22b
Series need more marketing
Fugging amazing!
Amazon should do a fkload more commercials for it. Or HBO MAX in the states.
" Sol " Seed of life, source of light , source of life
Love these interviews. In the next one, it would be great to do some rapid questions as to some of the open mysteries and if they will get solved sooner than later.
I'm 2 seasons deep and it's "the WTF series of the 20"s" so far!
It'd be nice to have a post finale interview. What a season ! :)
Best scifi show out there..love it
I wish the show was maybe on HBO so it could u know get a bigger audience
And I kinda wanna see that “what if?”scenario of Mother fighting off a Xenomorph Queen and it’s brood to protect her children. I can’t lie I think that would be an awesome movie.
with or without her eyes? at full power it will be a very short fight 😅
Thanks for asking.
The best way to do it is have her lose her eyes somehow for most of the movie (plot device) and have her get them back in the climax against the Queen.
Preferably after a first round against the young growing Queen without her eyes, and then having to be saved and repaired by Father, to keep the tension through out the movie as the Queen grows and sends our her brood. Until Mother is repaired and gets her eyes back somehow (plot device) for the climax where she finally defeats it.
"And what's the Snake going to be doing bro?"
Eating Pumpkins...
10 episodes is STILL super short of a season.
Awesome show
Good interview. Hoping the show gets renewed for the next 3 seasons, tho I know they do them one at a time.
Please find a new home for this awesome series! I’m not ready for RBW to be canceled!!!
smart questions👌
THX✊
Do you think Ridley Scott is going to drop this fascinating story he realizes the potential and continue his adventures of Lamia father and children on Keppler 22b whatever medium they think about and hopefully we get some good news.
Thank you Fascinating interview Raised by wolves is the most fascinating series! In France we still have no HBOMAX 15 European countries will be entitled to this channel! I am subscribed to Apple TV + season 2 should be broadcast the questions what date is it.
Dang, no HBO Max yet?! 😬 Are you able to watch this show some other way, I hope?? Or are you sailing the streaming seas?? 🤣🏴☠️🦜 LMAO
Aaron is a genius
this its a amazing show , not sure how the promotion works in this Industry, but some people don't know the show, because not enough promotions, but im telling you, this shows deserves awards, its in the same level as, ozart, succession, or hand"s main tales, good job
My Angel/ Android theory about mother, grandmother, and father: did you know that there are different types of Angels?
They are Arch Angels, Seraphim and Cherubim:
Cherubs originally were created to guard the Garden of Eden. They are said to have four faces (a human, an ox, a lion, and an eagle) these could represent character attributes such as having human qualities, OX =work ethic and built tough, lion= strength and protection, and eagle = vision while in flight! This could be mother or grandmother.
Seraphim angels are ranked the highest they are known to have a huge passion for God. They can fly also. This passion causes them to burn with golden fiery love. They are known for producing music like that of a choir. They are known to have a golden appearance and It is not wise to look upon their faces! Lucifer was thought to be a Seraphim. Maybe this is grandmother or mother!!! Not sure for father!
Archangels are the third kind. It is said that Archangel means “Chief Angel.” It is really unknown how many Archangels there are. Michel was a Archangel. They are known to be powerful. But lower ranked then the other two! This could be mother or possibly father or grandmother! So here is my guess= mother is a cherubim father is a archangel and grandmother is a seraphim I could have them out of order!
Mythraic isn't Christianity....
Ep5 so far so good
Great fun crazy show
Good job..perfection
Greatest show of all time.
I will never forgive HBOMAX's cancellation of the unique series RAISED BY WOLVES created by Aaron Guzikowski and produced by Ridley Scott. Lamia interpreted by Amanda Collin father I will miss the children.
I wish the producers would clean up the speech and sound as most of the episodes its just mumbling you hear and often the sound so soft that the speech is hard to hear so the story is missed
I watch every episode with subtitles enabled, absolutely enhances the experience - you get so much more of the story!!! I don't have any issue with the actual sound or volume in my episodes though, I just find I'm able to absorb more of the script with subbies ^_^
I love you aaron!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing show! The only bummer was the change of aspect ratio between season one and two. I mean: Why? It's a tv series, fill up the whole screen! HBOmax just launched in the Netherlands, I saw it was in the top ten of most popular shows, so that bodes well for the future.
Is that figure on the shelf behind you with the yellow horns a Shogun Warrior?! I have the full sized one from the early 80's. 😎
BRING IT BACKKKKKKKKKK
LOVE IT LIKE IT ..
GAIKING!!!
Please tell us you are already filming season 3!!!! 🙏
Hes writing it. It hasn't even been greenlit for season 3 yet.
I'm really enjoying the discussion about RBW generated with these posts. On a number of occasions there have been points made in comments by other viewers and RBW fans that I have found thought provoking and enlightening, even if they differ from my own speculations about where the show is going.
Just putting it out there but what if it is in this story that who it is that raises the orphan is very important to whoever or whatever The Light is?
More specifically, what if The Light wants its Chosen One to be someone that is sympathetic and caring towards the devolved humans?
Now that the sea creature has taken Tempests' baby, we essentially have 3 orphans being raised by different parents (wolves??). All 3 orphans fit the description of the prophesied one but due to their different upbringings and influences upon them, it appears that not all 3 will be intrinsically able to fulfill the prophecy.
Paul is an orphan raised by Marcus and Sue / Mary (both atheists posing as Mithraic) for many years while they were all in hypersleep. And now, Paul is sympathetic only towards those of the Mithraic faith as shown by his change in attitude towards Sue after she became a 'believer' in SOL.
Campion is an orphan raised by Mother and Father who are both androids programmed to be antagonistic towards the Mithraic faith. Campion is sympathetic towards androids (esp. Virell), atheists, Mithraic believers and serpents. I'm not certain but to date, I have not seen how sympathetic and caring Campion is towards the devolved humans; other than the fact that he doesn't want to eat them. Yes, Campion says that 'everything has a soul' but does he view the devolved humans as anything more than animal-like creatures?
Though Tempest and Othos' baby is also fatherless, at this time it is different to Paul and Campion in one key area. Paul has a father figure in Marcus. Campion has a father figure in Father. The baby was taken by a sea creature that appears to be female. Though its growth will be accelerated due to some of Grandmother's power, we have yet to see what kind of father figure it will have to influence it. Hunter came close to becoming a father figure for the baby but was too late.
If some of the other comments hold true and the devolved humans are closer to being 'pure' than humans are, then they will still hold value to SOL / The Light.
Although the creatures seem now closer to being animals than human, they are still a creature that has been created - especially given that they were formerly humans. If their welfare and existence is still cared about and of value to SOL / The Light, then the One chosen by It must be a person that cares about the devolved creatures also.
I think that because Tempest and Otho's baby was taken by devolved humans it may be raised by them also. As a result. the baby will be sympathetic and caring towards them also. That is something that neither Paul nor Campion have been so far.
Perhaps SOL / The Light desires a deliverer that will deliver all classes of creation to the Tree and thus to fellowship and communion with It so that SOL can communicate directly and personally with each of them.
It's only a technical point and I'm not sure whether it's valuable information but although both Paul and Campion are both orphans, they are not without 'fathers' or father figures. Paul has Marcus and Campion has Father. We haven't yet seen if Tempest and Othos' baby - which is also an orphan - will have a father figure to guide it. The baby may be raised by the female creature that took it from Tempest.
My point is that because of the points listed above, the baby may fit the description in the prophecy more so than either Paul or Campion. As stated earlier, given how the baby will be raised and who it will be raised by, it will most likely not be discriminatory against devolved humans nor will it view them as a lesser class of creation like how Paul and Campion might view them
Let me know your thoughts now that season 2 is finished!! I'd be interested to hear what you think now ^_^
❤️👍🏼
8 is too short - you left us on a cliff hanger, so now we have to wait 2 years to see what happened
Great series so far but.. 1 episode per week. That hurts.
Although I think they aired the first two at once. That delighted, then confused me.
As to what? That's how it's always been. Netflix I think is the only service that puts out whole new seasonsbat once
So five seasons may they make a sixth.
Please come to Amazon or Netflix
Dude kinda looks like Travis filmmel in the thumbnail
I loved the first season and I am looking forward to the second season (that unfortunately has not yet started in my country). But I really fear, that this show get cancelled after the second season. Many viewers disliked the final episode of the first season, because it raised more new questions than giving answers (what was many viewers were hoping for). There was a lot of negativity because of this. Looking at the single episode ratings from viewers on imdb you can see the final episode was significant lesser rated than the previous ones. I always feared that because of this, a large part of the audience would not come back for the second season. While we have no official numbers of viewership of the first episodes of the second seaseon, one indicator is the quantity of ratings the episodes are getting on imdb. It is a very far cry from the count of ratings the show got for the first season plus the second season is more expensive (according to producers) than the first one. Not looking good I fear.....
I agree I also have a fear this show gets canceled but if HBO stops production on it I think someone else would pick it up
The best SCIFI
The real unanswered question is where did Steven have to go that was so important? LOL
Science Fiction as its best 👌👌
I do wish they had more alien wildlife on Kepler also. Listen to your kid! lol
Nooo we need more NECROMANSERS
making a mouse that was a bioweapon was a bit puzzling to me. If the Trust can synthesize (or re-synthesize/clone) an entire mouse, then what's stopping it from making a whole cow or pigs; or even mutant attack dogs, for instance? Meat-eating seems still seems popular amongst the settlers...
Yeah he's been done that way before though with them power packs they put on their bodies during the pits when they were children soldiers so you could power up some fighters to go up against the snake
Season two was a totally different show! The cgi is baaad bad, this show would be a big hit if they had the budget!!
Ridley Scott and Aaron Guzikowski have to make a movie 🎬🍿to conclude Raides by Wolves if no platform picks up the series for a season 3. Let it go to hell 😡HBOMAX
want to buy s3 book
My favorite show, and It's cancelled. :(
I don't like the fact that he's winging it. This approach usually leads to plot-holes and unexplored plot-lines. I truly hope that everything makes sense in the end...
I hear a lot of complaints comparing it to "Lost", but, he's already got 5 seasons in mind, it seems a lot better thought out than other series that "wing it", that don't even have another single season in mind. I think this guy's idea of "winging it" is different than most productions nowadays.
Yeah he was the framework already figured out and a clear ending.
all that time for 8 episodes wtf only 6 more left!
There’s 8 but it says 6 online.. so confusing
I have ten for the first season, 4 for the second. Are you outside of the US?
The last 2 episode synopses likely contain MAJOR spoilers, I can't see a more logical reason to withhold them :)
Good show, I just hope this becomes not a "LOST" on an alien planet.
Nah, cuz the creator already has the beginning, middle & end all planned out. We just need HBO Max to give him however many seasons he needs to make it all happen. So far, he's stated he would need at least 5 seasons. So they'd better give him 5-6, and not play around w/their audience, or we're gonna be PISSED. 😤🤬 smh
Game of thrones made the mistake of making 6 episodes a season once.
The interviewer needs to upgrade his video and audio equipment. Sounds like he is using his webcam mic to interview the creator of this show. Completely unprofessional Collider.
I hope this doesnt turn into LOST 2.0
HBOMAX has just announced the end of the Raised by wolves series 😡 canceled the best SciFi series I've seen! Season 2 produced by Scott Free Ridley Scott's studio created by Aaron Guzikowski a totally original creation! And HBOMAX is canceling for no reason!? US critics are more than positive this exceeds all the turnips seen at the Cinema since January 2022 no film is at the level of Raised by wolves what a shame HBOMAX Shame you 😡 Ridley Scott he is approaching on other platforms to continue the adventures of Lamia, Father and children on Keppler 22b.
Well, what goes in must come out... Dude swallowed the eyes. He's gonna have to poop eventually.
spoiler: Mother retrieves them "magnetically" up from Marcus. And there's lots of things that become "un-poopable". irl examples: Lead integrates into the bones, and you can't "poop-out" stomach cancer tumors. If this particular detail is what bothers you, I think you just have an obsession with 💩
the interviewer is asking bad questions
I need to talk to your son
Same Same
I didn't like dune, slow motion constantly. Bad actors, zendaya oscar isaac etc.
Raised by wolves is the best sci-fi today. I can't wait for season 3 and it's really better than dune crap.
yeah bro that claymation snake is super um compelling. Did you switch between David Lynch's early stuff and Mothra movies on LSD a lot as a young aspiring filmmaker?
I'm probably twice as old, but I see no problem with the snake (other than it flying. I'd like to see some anti-gravity tech explanation, even if it involved "hand-wave" science) And I'm old enough to watch friends struggle with raising children (and adopted children) I think much of that would go over your head...
@@squirlmy it can fly because it was born from a necromancer dude
It's 'Lost' in space. It feels like they are making it up as they go along.
Great series, but Niamh Algar's character is a total Mary/Sue ;)
OMG I AM DUMB I was about to ask ''what the heck is Mary Sue about her? She is flawed and screws up all the time even when she is trying to do good which makes her an extremely engaging character!!'' ...then I clicked :P
@@Vexarax Agreed, she's been a interesting character
What amazes me is that everyone he encounters completely ignores his weird, huge, bulging veins. What’s up with that?
Just look, could you not do episode 6 shit again? The fan base is already having trouble growing, that shit didn't help. 🙃
Yeah Aaron you had a good start with the first season but now with the first 2 ep. you are making a cheap fx , dumb action scenes and dialogs. Marcus shooting down a flying ship with an arrow? Really ? Super tecnologic Mitreics with medival metal armors? Marcus crashing down with no injuries and saving himself using a laser gun that pulls you forward defying physics? And a lot of other dumb stuff. All that potential thrown into the toilet
😥🙄💩
IDK, season 1 was rather slow and boring. I'll take the dumb action scenes. Marcus was saved/resuscitated with Mother's "dark photon" eyes. But, this series is as much horror/fantasy as sci-fi. I'd think if you'd be turned off by this, the "pseudo-emotions", or "simulated" emotions of the androids from the beginning are so "un-android-like"..., I just accepted early on there are super-technologies far beyond even what this interstellar travelling of this group of humans have, mixed with a lack of technology that could be salvaged from the ships, and superstitious religion. Maybe the armor is "holy"?
How about the miraculous "visions" that get beamed into both humans and android brains? I don't see much inconsistency between seasons 1 and 2. Contrast it to the inconsistencies of "Expanse": little AI, "pilots" in spaceships when automating space travel should be obviously superior. People just seem to have vastly different expectations of what future tech could achieve, and what makes for interesting drama in those sci-fi scenarios.
@@squirlmy i'm glad you are liking this season 😊, i hoped for something better than this, i agree that the first season was slow and boring but still the hope that something original and interesting was going to happen was there for me. I did not expect a giant herbivore snake that flies 😓. I did not expect that eating dark fotonic eyes would not kill you, and somehow after taking a dump you would still have them in your stomac🥴. At the end of the day this is only my opinion based on my expectations and my tastes. And for me , but only for me , there is no Universe, neither this or parallel ones, where this series compares to The Expanse books/series 🤣, no way.
i simply find it dumb and hilarious to see these "advanced ai machines" communicate with each other using something as archaic as a human verbal language instead of a quantum computer language. makes no sense at all 🤣🤪🙃
