Huh. I actually think the Osmo 1 looked best in almost every test. The real question is... how can I mount one of these on my chest for mountain biking haha. (Yes I know there are wearable gimbals, I own two of them). Thanks for putting in the work! Cheers guys
Same here - never had any of the problems mentioned here with the Q - And im using a heavy phone - plus the horizon line can be adjusted with the joystick on the fly. One other thing isthat iphones are consistantly unreliable with gimbals - due to their internal stabilization mechanics. A lot of juttering seen in this video, can be attributed to that.
Im an accessories designer in love with the ability to generate my own product shots with my iphone 7 plus. I just ordered my macro lens and I cant wait to experiment with capturing greater detail of my products. You guys now have me wanting to shoot my own videos. Im not crazy technical so its super fun to learn but to get awesome results quickly. Thanks for the Inspo! Ill let you know how my handbags look with the macro
You said $100 was a lot to spend on a video accessory, yet your lens is $99... To be honest I think most people would rather have a gimbal over a lens. (Not hating on your product at all, just making a comparison)
Massive difference between a Lens, and a Video *Accessory* - an accessory is exactly that, something accessory to shooting, and therefore not necessary. Don't confuse Smartphone Accessory with Video Accessory. While the Moment Lenses are smartphone accessories, they're not in my opinion simply video 'accessories' as they really fundamentally alter your content. It's kind of like a DSLR would have a lens and a tripod. The Lens is fundamental- the tripod is an accessory.
@@lilmilt28 The phone has a lens... yes, different FOV alters content, but so does jerky movement vs smooth movement. Both Accessories and lenses are important aspects..
Did you calibrate the Smooth Q? We had some jittering with it until we calibrated it. And btw, learned it's kind of a weird way to do the calibration, too. It's the best bang for the buck in our opinion. Enjoyed the comparisons! We're eyeing a Movi once they release it.
Yes! In-depth Movi review please! Just picked up my first gimbal, a Feiyu, purely because of its low price point. Just want to get a feel for how to incorporate it into my iPhone video shooting before I jump into something more premium like the Movi. Plus I need a gimbal that can work with my Moment lenses. Eventually.....haha!! Keep up the good work guys!!
Please produce a counter weight for the Smooth Q. I really want the Moment wide-angle lens for my Android, and I already have the Smooth Q, which I am learning to love. If I had the money, I would definitely go with the Movi, but as my budget is limited, and I'm trying to make the most with what I have, I got the Smooth Q. And I'm not really gadget-girl to be able to make my own counter-weight. Wally is adorable! Great vid!
The thing I like about these gumballs is that it makes your subject look like they're in a video game. It's pretty neat. I'm torn between the smooth q and osmo 2. Very nice break down guys
DJI copied the smooth q , non replaceable battery, quarter 20 mount on the bottom, vertical mounting and spring loaded phone mount and dropped the price point because of the smooth q. INNOVATION AWARD goes to Smooth Q. Great testing and video, would like to see Osmo 2 vs Smooth Q android software operation especially in tracking mode, to see if DJI has stepped up their Android game. Thank you for sharing.
I was going to point out the same but decided to go through the comments first `cause I knew I couldn't have been the only to notice. Osmo 2 is practically a clone of the Smooth Q, which I own and works perfectly fine.
Also, the battery life and its quality are amazing. They didn't point out any of this about the Smooth Q. This was clearly sponsored by DJI. I am not against of sponsorship, but come on, if they are in the business of making videos they should have known all of these.
I own the Smooth Q and I'm pretty happy with it. I don't have a moment lens, yet, but it handles my iPhone 7 plus fairly well. It works better without a case at all. Unfortunately, it struggles a little with the moment case on. I would love to upgrade to the Movi someday. Good work guys this did really help a lot!
Great review, but my question is: What App did you use to shoot these videos, is it with DJI GO 4 App for example or you used the straight iPhoneX camera App? Please let me know, Thanks guys 😊
What a hip video. I must upvote. Nevermind they're reviewing a gimbal which isn't sold anymore, and two gimbals which are still in the pre-production phase.
Surprisingly Osmos does not affected by side acceleration. Smooth-q is clearly affected by this, tilting the horizon is apparent. Respect lots of works put to this video, it was very educating also entertaining as you said. The running shot looked exhaustive; also the roll motor will be not visible when you locate the phone slightely farther from the motor, this way'll work better IMHO. I'm using Smooth-q now but Osmo2 is very appealing, and movi looks very very pricey. Thank you!
Really enjoyed this side-by-side comp. guys. Thanks. Already using the Osmo + and Osmo Mobile (for iPhone). Pre-ordered the Movi based on this and your other videos about that equipment. Can't wait to get our hands on the Movi! And yes, we use Moment photo cases and your full range of lenses. Don't leave the office without em!
I did, not sure why that was not mentioned. On the videos I took today it was really bad. I took the video with the iphone 8 plus with the moment lense. I am returning my OSMO2
Ya I have an Osmo 1 and an 8 plus and can’t figure out how to get rid of the jitter. @ moment crew how do you not have the jelly effect which is documented everywhere on the inter webs? The OIS in iPhones works against the stabilizing gimbal.
hey guys, great video! BTW how are you able to have such a smooth footage? For me the OIS of the iPhone is ALWAYS trying to fight the gimbal and as a result ends up with a really bad, shaky footage
Wow!! My nostalgia is going crazy. My wife and I spent many of our early dates at the dog beach at this very same park when we lived in the U District.
I bought the Smooth Q a little while ago and i think it's nice. But that Movi is interesting to me. I think I'd rather like to use the design of the Movi than a WAND type style gimbal. I paid $137 for my Smooth Q at best buy. It's probably $99 dollars NOW cause it's gonna compete with the OSMO 2. But I think the Smooth Q is nice and so do many people that have it. If there are any gimbal videos on UA-cam, it's DEFINITELY on the Smooth Q.
Moment Yeah I'm thinkin I wanna buy a Movi after they release it. I REALLY dig that design and functionality of it. It doesn't hurt to have more gear either.
Thanks guys 👍 Great video! I’ll be buying the Osmo 2 after this. Can’t beat the combo price & feature 💪 ... I don’t have a Moment Lens “yet”, but becoming a fan of your channel & tip 🎥 ... Keep it up 🍺
As for the motor in the way on the Osmo 2...why can’t you just “slide” the phone further from that motor to get it out of the shot then to rebalance everything add a slightly heavier counterweight??
This is true, but they said they didn't have a proper counterweight setup as it was for this test, let alone they would need more weight if they slid the camera further out.
I'm baffled at how the running footage with the iphone x and osmo mobile 2 is so smooth. Can you please tell us how you navigated around the OIS issues that seem to have to whole internet stumped? I have an iphone x and osmo mobile 2 and all of my videos are super jittery. Is it something you're doing in settings? Which app were you filming on? Or was anything done in post? Please help! I've scoured the internet and found nothing to solve this problem.
and you wont find any answers, because there aren't any. these guys and most youtubers get paid to promote these products, and the OIS problem with the iPhone is a HUGE deal-breaker. so what you find is, they probably filmed a lot of this footage, and then applied some image stabilization tricks in premiere and after effects to remove most of the stutter. while this may seem like a solution, it's not. not only does it increase you work time by A LOT, it also drastically reduces the quality of the video. but these guys are getting paid to SELL these gimbals to you, not STOP you from buying them.

I ran a gimble on my iPhone X for 2 days and then returned the gimble because I had nothing but issues with the optical stabilizer built into the iPhone X camera. In your video here i see no shaky optical stabilizer fighting the gimble so i am very VERY curious how you fixed this issue! Great video BTW, you gained my subscription, looking very forward to your help on the optical stabilization issue i was experiencing.

I believe I will look at the smooth 4. Now I just have to wait to get my iPhone 10 and then get a lens from you guys. I love that I don't have to go out and buy a $500 camera to do this.
My iPhone 7 Plus doesn't catch the OSMO Mobile 2's motor(arm?) on my video. I tested iPhone 7 Plus + Moment Wide Lens with OSMO Mobile 2. No problem! I think the height of iPhone 7 Plus gets rid of that issue. iPhone 7 Plus is taller than iPhone X. (6.23 inches vs 5.65 inches)
I got my Osmo M2 2 days ago, wide v2 lens is far too heavy without counterweight to balance ... i haven't yet figured out how to balncae it with moment lens on
Hugely, HUGELY loved this video. Loved the format of 'show' and how you even went through lengths to act the same in each shoot for each gimbal. This is before viewing your guys' comments after reviewing the footage, and from a new-gimbal buyer: It seems the OSMO 1 was a solid performer to begin with! Based on the footage captured, I'd give it the slight edge over the MOVI based on the running-footage and how it somehow kept the vertical/y-axis more stable than the MOVI. The Smooth Q/OSMO 2 exemplified the adage: "You get what you pay for." The Q works, but not nearly as well as the other 3. And the OSMO 2 just seems of cheaper quality, which it is, but also some execution error with the gimbal getting some unintended film time. I don't know the full features of the OSMO 1, and if you can score one for $100 cheaper, it may be a real contender to the MOVI. What attracts me to the MOVI is the fact I don't need a tripod to set it down, and I know what other app-features it includes. Now, on to your guys' actual closing and see how similar my observations as a noob is :)
haha Handheld i.e no gimbal :D I also thought the handheld shot of the skateboarding was by far the best, but that is because the movement in the shot suited the actions and energy of the content. there's certainly a time and place for stabilised shooting, but just because you have some form of stabilisation doesn't mean you should use it. I bet my left testicle, that if an editor had to choose between a stabilised shot and that handheld shot for a high tension get away on a skateboard scene with dramatic music, that handheld shot would win every time. PLEASE GOD DON'T TAKE MY LEFT TESTICLE
Yah I also thought the handheld was best on the skateboarding scene. I think it's because the handheld scene was more dynamic & reactive in an action scene, while the gimbals all had a dull/flat camera motion to them.
Love your videos guys. Keep it up! A little tip. I have the Smooth Q. The horizon line can be fixed my rebalancing or by simply pressing the mode button twice and adjusting the roll axis with the joystick. 🤙
Been using the Movi a couple weeks and love the echo mode an barrel roll. Balance with is on still needs fine tuning - mine tends to list to one side. Ergonomics not as good as Osmo for walking around...and Osmo joystick also better for walking around. Overall, they’re two slightly different tools for slightly different uses...having a lot of overlap. Both have nice apps.
Dude.. did the osmo 1 just win? It definitely seemed to have dominated the running test and I would say did just as well as the movi in every other test. Smooth Q was just garbage.
Forgot to mention....please do more on the Movi and all it's features. Would love to see that. By the way, just to let you know...I own both the Moment Macro lens and the wide angle and love 'em both. Great work, guys.
Thanks for your videos! What gimbal do you think would be the best for iPhone 8 Plus considering the extra size and weight? The payload of the majority of the gimbal seems to be not enough to support phone+case+lens. Thanks!
StevenGumley No, using a wide angle lense is an add on to get more of a camera affect. These gimbols werent created just for a wide angle lense on a phones camera.
i had the same issue with the moondog labs anamorphic lens. the solution is not just flashlight mode but to move the phone further out of the clamp and use a slightly heavier counter balance weight.
How can you possibly claim that this is a real test if you bodge lenses and counterweights on the items?? It's like testing a new car but removing a wheel... This is a very bad test.
This video is waaaaaay more informative than the other reviews on gimbals. When u were taking the videos it’s totally clear that movi won. Imma go ang check them out right now! Thanks guys!!!! Good job!!!
Thanks a lot guys. killer work. I found this when looking at comparing my Osmo 2 against the Flowmotion One that I ordered 10 months ago. (and it STILL HASN'T ARRIVED) i hope when i get it that you will like the video i make comparing it to my Osmo 2. oh yeah i almost forgot, nice kick flips. My favorite was always frontside flips. those and crooked grinds.
I have tried mounting an iPhone with lens onto a proper 2 handle gimbal meant for DSLR cameras using a platform I stole from a selfie stick and it worked really well.
You guys are awesome, and thanks for the videos your making, but I wonder why most of the gimbals not compatible with Android OS? if that's not the case what would you recommend for Galaxy Note 9? Thanks again,
Great review on the 4 more popular mobile gimbals currently available. Was kind of shocked you didn't cover the software options/ease of use for each gimbal as well since that should also be an important deciding factor. You touched on it in a little when talking about the Freefly Movi but would have been nice to cover the other 3 as well.
Thanks for making this video. I have the Osmo Mobile 1 and face some challenges with it, such as having to add my own counter weight when filming with a mic attached to iphone7plus (it's impossible to balance)
Thanks you guys. Because of you guys I decided to go with the movi. Bought it today, I’m wondering about the lens your using? Could you give me some info on it? Thanks
I would love a full review of the osmo mobile 2. I recently found you guys and purchased the wide angle and macro. You guys are awesome. Keep doing what you are doing.
I hope this video was helpful and slightly entertaining 🙂 Which gimbal are you the most interested in??
Moment i recent purchased freefly movi wondering if the counterbalance is included? if not where to buy?
The Freefly Movi. But when will an Android version become available?
Moment I'm gonna have to get me one of these...by the way, what happened with the giveaway?
Does the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 control Filmic Pro like the DJI Osmo 1?
I think the Movi is incredible, but when will they make an android version?
Huh. I actually think the Osmo 1 looked best in almost every test. The real question is... how can I mount one of these on my chest for mountain biking haha. (Yes I know there are wearable gimbals, I own two of them). Thanks for putting in the work! Cheers guys
Redo the test with smooth-q. You have to calibrate it before using it.
Webinatic agreed!! They must have not had the slider set right so it starts off “balanced”.
Agreed. I have never had these issues. Smooth q is smooth as butter

I have a pretty scathing review of it on my channel. It’s trash.
No active track for 3 bills. Junk
Eddy Bueno They’re developing it... active track is currently unique to DJI. (The Osmo 2 is cheap garbage).
Your Smooth Q isn't calibrated, hence the tilting. You didn't discuss about the mobile apps, they add huge value to the gimbals.
i assumed those went without saying since it is basically required. especially because these gimbels are for mobile phones. do you use the q?

Moment you guys didnt mentioned the price of the Handheld gimbal I love that one where can I get it?
haha Handheld i.e no gimbal :D I also thought the handheld shot of the skateboarding was by far the best, but that is because the movement in the shot suited the actions and energy of the content. there's certainly a time and place for stabilised shooting, but just because you have some form of stabilisation doesn't mean you should use it.
Smooth Q is most smooth
Yeah, to hell with what these guys who've seen all their footage think!
Looked jittery to me, odd panning too
Yes that's right
My one had a wondering horizon at first so I calibrated it and it's fixed the issue
Dk4K agreed.. once I upgraded the firmware and calibration.. there was no issue. Looking forward to putting it through more use.
Y'all's videos are hilarious while being informative.
As for me Osmo 1 is better than Osmo 2
Andrew Cherkashyn I agree. Surprisingly it seemed a lot smoother than the Osmo 2
Andrew Cherkashyn but with the Price difference still the Osmo 2 wins
Osmo 2 can also be set up in portrait mode
That's good you're making weights for the Smooth Q. It's a hugely popular gimbal because of it's price (before the Osmo 2 came out anyway).
Please what is the sound track in 9:44?
Dasand - Rudestorm
@@1337fraggzb00N Are you joking? Because the song is name Sandstorm and made by Darude
Actually the song is Sandrude from Dastorm.
What is the name of the song that sounds at 20:30?
I like the color grade on your "talking to the camera" shots. Since I am a marketing guy, and not a film maker, I think I'll go with the Osmo 2.
Was going to buy the osmo 2 but the gimbal motor keeps on coming into the shot is making me rethink my future purchase.
Nick Miller because they are using the wide lens. It will not happen if you aren’t using any wide angle lens.
You can slide the phone further out until you clear the view and add a little more counterweight.
Great comparison! Which one would you say it's better for a backpacking trip? Considering portability, build quality and weight?
That Movi wasn’t as smooth as either one of the Osmos.
Thanks for the shootout!
I had the same impression, in the running test I would even say osmo 1 outperforms all others.
How in the world am I just now finding this amazing channel?!
$99 is too much for just a video accessory. Can you say the same about your product? The one where I have to pay $40 for a case and 100+ for a lens?
ikr
Thanks for your videos! What gimbal do you think would be the best for iPhone 8 Plus considering the extra size and weight? The payload of the majority of the gimbal seems to be not enough to support phone+case+lens. Thanks!
Why is nobody talking about how the motor is in practically every shot on the Osmo 2?!?
StevenGumley they addressed that in the beginning of the video after the first shot with it
because of the wide angle lens
#1 because if you watched the video, they stated the problem. #2, its because the wide angle lense.
isn't the point to use the wide angle lens with the stabilyzer?
StevenGumley No, using a wide angle lense is an add on to get more of a camera affect. These gimbols werent created just for a wide angle lense on a phones camera.
This is basically the video I’ve been waiting for !
Osmo 2 is so annoying that thICK thing is sticking out lol
iamjuda to be fair, it wasn’t designed with a wide angle lens in mind. Bet with the moment lens off you don’t see it
iamjuda because they put a wide lens which is not designed for it
i had the same issue with the moondog labs anamorphic lens. the solution is not just flashlight mode but to move the phone further out of the clamp and use a slightly heavier counter balance weight.
That's what she said.
Great video guys!
OMG This is the exactly what I am looking for! The best video on the 4 products that I struggle with. Thank you guys. Awesome review!
How can you possibly claim that this is a real test if you bodge lenses and counterweights on the items?? It's like testing a new car but removing a wheel... This is a very bad test.
I own a Osmo1 but the MOVI is on my wishlist for this year! Give us its own reveal! Cheers!!!
Sir please give me a one gimbal
I am new in youtube
Sir please help me
This video is waaaaaay more informative than the other reviews on gimbals.
Definitely do in depth freefly review! Interested to see all the modes in action.
You guys are awesome, and thanks for the videos your making, but I wonder why most of the gimbals not compatible with Android OS? if that's not the case what would you recommend for Galaxy Note 9?
Thanks again,
Can I get away with just buying the movi and a simple lens for real estate clips? Love the video, please help.
Yes! Please do a more in-depth review of the Freefly and the Osmo2...!!! 👍🏼
Awesome guys,
can you post links for information about these iphone lenses?
Thanks for sharing the video. Could you please test if the motor/arm is also visible on a video if you use the iPhone 8 Plus and a moment wide lens?
Thanks for making this video. I have the Osmo Mobile 1 and face some challenges with it, such as having to add my own counter weight when filming with a mic attached to iphone7plus (it's impossible to balance)
they all looked pretty close to me. I think it's a preference thing to me. I like the thumb control osmo 2. Thanks for the review it was awesome.
Wish there was a gimbal for life in general. Very cool vid:)
