I love it - it's not crap by any means. In fact, it shines out amongst other popular music in that it's a tune that makes you smile. I dare anyone to listen to this and not be happy
I was 10 years old when violinski had this hit.. I was, and still am a big fan of ELO.. it took me ages to track this song down Thank you so much for your video..

I saw Violinski play this live as part of their set at The Venue in London, in 1979 - they only had enough material for one set, ie one albums worth , so the vocalist asked the audience if they wanted to hear Clog Dance again, as an 'encore' LOL . Also, I remember on the film Brassed Off, the song was performed by a brass band as they criss -crossed the county on a coach, competing for the championship! Great film starring Ewan McGregor and Pete Postlethwaite 👌.
Steve Wright wouldn't recognise musical talent if it booted him up the arse. I can't understand how the man made it as far as he did in his chosen career, I have yet to meet anyone who has any time for him.
Who does Steve Wright think he is? A disc Jockey?!? Brilliant piece which brings alive a classic Brass Band piece with electronic influences. PERFECT!!!
Someone here has commented that it sounds like Status Quo. When I first heard it on Radio Carline Flashback I too thought it was Quo. Fabulous tune... :-)
I'm no fan of Steve Wright anyway, but he should really learn to keep his opinions to himself. He has no musical talent of his own and should learn to not criticise those that have. Anyone know of a version on here without the 'commentary'?
+Peter Jewell Steve Wright in the afternoon was I think in the mid 80,s on Radio 1. Apart from the current music he played all his topics of discussion were random trivia items poached from the daily sun/star. You could never accuse the man of intelligent or original thought , it was all prattle on till the end of the broadcast. Its a DJ thing. It doesn,t matter what you are saying as long there is a noise coming out of your mouth. Think of Alan Partridge, also Banter at DJ,S "handovers"on many radio stations.Best of all "Smashy and Nice", Does a lot of work for charidy but doesn,t want to talk about it.Let us rock!
The thing I ask is what is Steve Wright? he is just a DJ or what I prefer to call them Radio Presenters. For his information Mik is not trying to be Nigle Kennedy on this track it is just a bit of a novalty record which I thjink was released for the Christmas market, if he put him self out to listen to some of the solo's Mik did with ELO including "THE FIGHT OF THE BUMBLE BEE" he will hear that Mik could match what Kennedy could play.
I love this tune...my little brother actually thought it was Status Quo...!! Can KINDA see where he was coming from, but he still deserved the clout I gave him...!! lol
This song was used in the late '70's early '80's by a dutch radio show called "13 speciaal" and later on "praatpaal 15". Broadcasted by the AVRO. It was a program for adolescents. Hosted by Birgit.
@@fzipper3969 Oh dear. Semantic pedantry combined with good old fashioned pedantry. Excuse the spelling error, Clifford C. Clavin. The irony... And rest assured I have no interest what so ever in Brigitte Ganzstit, but thank you for the link:)
@Littleswamp1 That's interesting, I didn't realise it was a brass band piece. The Floral Dance in an interesting recording (the Brighouse and Rastrick Band) was also a big hit. Both have memorable and nostalgic sounding themes. Both were also hits around christmas and have a bright happy and so festive feel possibly, the twinkling quiet ending to the Clog Dance sound very christmas.
Was just about to say the same thing. Brass band version is better but this isn't bad. If you want to hear total crap try the boyband/girlband shit that was on Totp
All the brass band music in Brassed Off - particularly that played by “The Grimley Colliery Band” - is actually The Grimethorpe Colliery Band - they backed Peter Skellern on many of his hits - especially You’re A Lady!
Wow ! I'd never noticed that before, but your little brother is correct. It sure does remind me of Status Quo ! Put some chugga-chugga Telecaster in there and away you go !
I remember Mik´s Violinski project began nearly the same time ELO was huge. This sounds good I just don´t know hoe to rate in the categorie in the pop music. Is it that. I know ELO bassist Mike De Albuquerque played in Mik´s band.
You folks don't seem to get it. NONE OF YOU. What REALLY happened here is that Kaminski's mic failed the sound test and they let the show go on anyway. You couldn't hear the solo instrument because the mic wasn't picking it up. OF COURSE it sounded bad! The sound techs didn't do their jobs!

The world was just not ready for Violinski yet.
How could he say it's terrible ? I absolutely love this. I bought the album !
Because he's a self opiniated idiot. Listen to his comments about the clothes, they were the fashion of their time
Cos he's a cretin. Couldn't sing to save his life...
Clog Dance was the first single I ever bought. I still love it.
@@kingstonnine2393 I bought it as well!
i was thinking how rude, can he even play an instrument? think the drummer flinched at right moment just out of coincidence?

Mik Kaminski on violin. He was a member of ELO.

The drummer looks thrilled to be there.
I was just thinking that. Christ, he looks furious!
They were miming as all artists did on top of the pops (no criticism of violinski implied ) i wonder is that what pissed the drummer off
Oh the memories this brings back!
Thanks Mik.
The drummer is now my younger brother's percussion teacher, and a colleague of one of my older brothers.
Steve Wright is not fit to criticize musicians. All he does is talk crap.
So glad I found this, it’s not on Apple Music or other streaming service’s that I’ve checked
Awww I like this song. It's not terrible at all.
I agree. Why does he always make fun of the great songs???
Steve Wright wouldn't recognise musical talent if it booted him up the arse. I can't understand how the man made it as far as he did in his chosen career, I have yet to meet anyone who has any time for him.
This is just such a classic that will grow and grow, the apathy of the drummer must take some beating

seems the brass band arrangement must have come later
This is a stomping tune! What do you mean terrible? Nonsense. Top tune.
it is not terrible, this was such a hit that many many brass bands cover this song. its a staple for them now.
Mik Kominski, ELO legend !
I bought this classic 7" with my pocket money. Loved it then and still love it now!
This is good song!
But no more 'terrible' than the shit you play on your shows throughout the years eh, Steve? Philistine. This is a classic track.
steve wright started his carrer at radio 210 reading berkshire my home town IM SO SORRY ALL he was crap then as now

I bought this as a white vinyl 45 when I was 10!
Thought I was quite ahem, cool at the time ;o)
Must dig it out...
Love ELO too.
John Hodgson (The drummer with curly hair and mustache) is a drum teacher at my school :)
got. that song on you tube play it every day Steve wright keep quite
this is , in a word, hellish.
I brought this on a 45 rpm vinyl single recently. My 6 month old son loves it, so do I.
I bought the 45 in ‘79 and still treasure it.
yeah his trade mark the blue violin i like that...
I like this
Great piece of music I agree what is steve Wright got to criticise certainly no music today 70s and 80s the best
Great video!
I linked it in my blog, for a review of the Spanish 7" single press of Clog Dance, called Zapateado.
thank you very much.
I met Mik in an Orchestra concert in Jersey. Really nice guy.
Sounds a bit like a Status Quo instrumental with violin.
Love this song, it should have been a bigger hit worldwide.

Peter Jewell Steve Wright has been annoying me for forty years. I hear his voice. I turn off.
Peter Jewell Steve Wright knows as much about music as I do about giving an eurofighter typhoon a new engine.
In this case he has a point though. This makes ELO sound like Schoenberg.
