“Taking Me Back (Gently)” Lyrics:
I'll Bet You Do
When You Take Out The Figures
And When You Pull All The Triggers,
Well You're Taking Me Back
You're Taking Me Back.
When You Listen To Mystics
As You Lay At Your Picnics.
You're Taking Me Back.
You're Taking Me Back.
I'll Bet You Do,
But Not For Long.
I'm Alone,
But Not For Long.
When I'm Down On The Floor You'll See
That No One Will Notice Me
It's Breaking My Back.
Breaking My Back.
When You Drop The Mail Off To Me
And Make Us Both Coffee
Are You Taking It Black?
Are You Taking Me Back?
I'll Bet You Do,
But Not For Long.
I'll Bet You Do Feel Alone,
But Not For Long.
It's Breaking My Back
It's Breaking My Back
When You Forgive The Friction
And You Talk About Christmas,
Are You Taking Me Back?
Taking Me Back.
When I Recall The History
These Kids Are A Mystery
They're Taking Me Back
They Are Taking Me Back
Taking Me Back.
I'll Bet You Do.
I'll Bet, I'll Bet You,
Do.

My parrot is really feeling this song. He's singing and dancing and tapping his beak on the wall. Lol! 🦜❤
[Everyone loved that]
That is so awesome
Cool parrot you got 😎
That’s so awesome! Ha! Love it!
He's taking a crack😉
Jack flashing his versatility between these two versions
@Nick West i think both versions sounds great and fits in his songs style
@Nick West calm down. Some people don't like the rock one, some do
@Nick West nah I enjoyed your opinion because I agree.
I can't stop listening to this version, it's just amazing. Brings back memories I've never had.
Love that!
So true
So true
So true
So true
In all honesty the other version didn't really move me at first listen but this is amazing. Total reminder of why I love Jack White so much
Same.
Watch the lyric video for the heavy version and it makes more sense.
@Nick West that’s definitely an opinion…
listen to the other version through a crisp system with a sub and good mains with clean headroom. it slaps
My favorite musician of all time.
Well he definitely is THIS centuries Neil Young...
I'm about to be 74, so not the Jack White demographic at all...but DAMN! This is freakin' awesome! Very cool mix of bluegrass/bop/gyspsy...Would love to hear more of this from him.
his next album will be more like this song!
a@ Jack north : so cool
I was just thinking the other day that it's about time we heard some new Jack White. Boarding House Reach was sick, hopefully we get another album soon!
The original was a promotional track for cod and this version seems to be a bonus but yeah we need a new solo album if not a raconteurs album since those are the only two Jack white acts still going
@@aaronlaplace5902 Raconteurs released an album last year.
Was pretty uninspiring imo. Boarding House Reach was much better
@@MrRAB1992 help us stranger was released in 2018 wdym last year
@@aaronlaplace5902 fuck really?
It was still rubbish tbf
@@MrRAB1992 hard disagree it’s probably not as good as consolers of the lonely and it’s definitely not at good as boarding house reach but it’s pretty damn good especially the stronger songs
Hearing these 2 new tracks makes me want a "not gently" version of Carolina Drama.
Some of the shows I’ve seen have delivered something very much like that. It depends who his backing band is and what the vibe of the show is. But he can absolutely let loose on that song when the mood strikes. Gotta say, the last Racs tour was a real blast. Haven’t had that much fun at a show in a while.
@@sandmaniac3Saw them in Detroit last tour. Best show I've seen in a long long time. Just incredible energy.
This is the superior version by a mile.
For real. The other version is the first time I've ever felt a little let down by a new Jack White song. This one is fantastic
@@duanekogut757 the other one felt uninspired imo
Agreed, Jack’s at his best when it’s simple. Other version has a boarding house feel to it. Hoping the new album is good tho
That’s subjective, it depends on if you like jack’s more rock- orientated side or the softer music he makes
@@garmen- Of course it's subjective it's an opinion on music. ;)
2 completely different versions huh? Very cool. Is he making an album Boarding House Reach style and vintage recording style? That would be wild.
Edit: Called it! Loved Fear of the Dawn and how it ended. Can't wait to hear Entering Heaven Alive for a totally different experience.
My hunch is that this version was recorded for Lazaretto judging by the vibe and personnel on the track, then perhaps it was reimagined for the album that the electric version will be on and it fit a bit better
He is such a creative artist.
Impressed by second version
He has in the past released multiple takes of the same song in different styles. Nothing more than an alt take that could show up as a B side.
@@Cubs1719 is an acoustic take, which is completely different.
well this was unexpected and entirely welcome! Thanks Jack!
Always love waking up to some new jack white 😀
This version is gorgeous too, the fiddle is beautiful! I'm so happy!
🖤🖤🖤
I'm digging the mandalude?
I am unsure how normal it is to listen to one person's music almost exclusively, yet here we are!
I am also guilty of this.
Lol, I'm the same.
Same 🤘🏼
I mean, if u have to listen to only one person, I'm glad it's jack White! Cuz that means the solo music, the white stripes, dead weather AND raconteurs!
If you're questioning what's NORMAL, there is your problem.
Jack's always a gentleman with his awesome musics.
The acoustic guitar solo is fucking awesome oh my god
Jack White is the best musician of out lifetime. Dude is so damn talented. The other version of this songs rocks too. Both so good and so different.
Dylan, McCartney and Jagger want a word.
Let's not go fucking crazy, he writes some cool riffs and interesting lyrics, but he not some next level musical genius.
Two very different versions of talent from Jack White himself expressing his craft. Each of us have our preference, but no way can either be called a disappointment.
I, myself, prefer the other, because I am more the rock kill me with those guitar riffs Jack!
Yet, I can appreciate this as well. ♡ Jack. Never disappoints.
True that. This is great and reminds me of the soundtrack to a western. But the guitar version ROCKS! It's like comparing the Racuetuers to the Dead Weather. IMHO the Dead Weather were the epitome of what hard rock should be.
@@jayluvonde9551 meh, kinda, they could get a bit boring after a while
Love both versions! One is trippy and wild. The other a blast from the past like stepping into the 1940s lol. I wish artists would do this sort of thing more.
You never know, how good a song really is, until you heard it played on an old guitar at the camp fire.
I’m digging this also! Wouldn’t be surprised if the vinyl for this had a double groove like “Just One Drink” on the Lazaretto Ultra LP
or a 3D angel when you spin the record and hold up a flashlight to it like Blunderbuss original press
@@mariannejacobsen8036 That was also the Lazaretto Ultra LP😉
@@henrym6411 Ah...it was the blunderbuss one that was hologram vinyl?
long time ago eh?
@@mariannejacobsen8036 ua-cam.com/video/i-8B-_Jq2ro/v-deo.html This will help😉
Viva la Cryptic
This is pure art, my new favorite song, long live Jack White🤍🌒
Love this version! Can't wait for new music and a tour by Jack. It's been too long.
I love how the hard version seems to sound so cocky and smug about the other character taking them back, this one seems to sound hopeful and pleading for another chance. Just my two pence
Einfach einzigartig
I love both versions, Jack is my favorite punk blues and respects the past blues rock n roll. No one like him! Can't wait for the album!! Great comments from everyone on here.
To my favorite guitarist on the planet…. Oh how I love this.. let me count thy ways.
Both versions are amazing. It’s rare anymore when new music stuns you. You’re a fucking wizard, Harry.
Ha! :'-)
Much love for both versions. This one is dreamy 🖤💙
The man is a genius! Can we please give him his flowers while he’s alive. Who else could orchestrate 2 versions of one song like Jack. He’s the very definition of Back to the Future!
The other version does not entice me to “take him back.” This one … charms me.
~ ♥️ ~
Джек - молоток!!
Wow I like both versions, one makes you want to rock out one makes you want to sit on the porch sipping a beer and watching the sun set down in the mountains what a true artist to be able to make you feel two different ways in there music, amazing
What can you say, this is an absolutely brilliant composition. Love the interplay of the instruments. Listening with my eyes closed. It's taking me back to a simpler time, to the carefree days of youth. Thank you, Jack.
This version is definitely going to the Jack White favorite collection believe that...
As if this version is'not sweet enough. He backs it up with astronauts tripping. I love his love for beautiful images. What an eye and ear for detail.😀
I was just listening to the great song In My Time Of Dying by Zeppelin and I said damn, Jack is due for releasing some new magic and this made my day.
Both versions are great; but this one is something else 😩👏
The electric version turns me off but this acoustic version is very good. Jack's voice shines here.
Such a 1930s vibe. Love it.
As if I couldn't love this man more.... FUCKING GENIUS
Jack does the Django and Dan Hicks thing! Great!
Damn, you're really doing this. Somebody get me another drink; Johnny's got another song for me to sing.
I like both versions of this song. Right now this is my favorite, because of all of the different instrument flavors!
The Musical Genius that Is Jack White shall be written about for lifetimes to come.
This version is so much better, not even close.
What a spectacular rendition! I think I prefer this to the original, especially bc it’s such a strong closer to a record that showcases Jack White’s musical brilliance in such a refreshing way
if this came out exactly like this in 1908 it wouldve been a huuuuge bop
My day has just been made
Love this!!!
Thank you Jack White!
I absolutely love the Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang influence that shines throughout this magnificent song. Great work Jack! The electric version is killer too. Glad to see such a variety of style with the different versions.
Taking me back to when we knew we weren't perfect but had hope, joy, humor, a sense that we really were within the grasp of true greatness.... we need not, and should not go back, but there are many, many things we could and should remember and pull forward into today... if we want our vision of tomorrow to be possible... doing this is a must.... Jack is just singing the songs of hope for tomorrow... this is not 'gifted', it is 'of things'...
This is what I needed this morning! Thanks Jack!
Today is the first time I've heard this version and it is very sweet!!! I appreciate the time Jack has put into pressing his songs, "Jack'in them" through different genres of of music. I am truly heart warmed by his artistry, sweet!
both great versions, this feels like im in a cowboy saloon bar, and i really like that
the other version is heavy and electric and feels very now, so thats amazing how much music can change a whole feeling of a song. the same lyrics. but different music.
lovely.
Jack is a true master of the blues
Love!
The Raconteurs

@@sekiroshadow2620 В хорошем или плохом смысле бро? 😃 Ну что поделать кризис среднего возраста, ушёл в лирику своей эпохи откуда он зашёл.
While I VASTLY prefer the rock version (simply personal taste), I'm glad this is out there for those who prefer this style.
It also showcases Jack White's ridiculous amount of talent. Sheesh. 😶
So happy about this release and I love that there are two versions. I love the acoustic guitar part on this one! ❤ Love you Jack!!!
Love the spirit
love the vibratto in jack's voice.
A country folk version and a rock version...I'm in love! 2021 full of so much wonderful talent! #takingmeback ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
YES to this version! Love it
“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up” 🌙
I’ve got two moods. The og and this.
Has anyone called Jack White a genius yet??? Is he even from this planet? I love that someone close to my age can be so insanely cool. Keep on rocking, Jack! 🤘
Very cool Mr. White. You're trully awesome. Love your music.
Love both. ❤
Love this album-thanks Jack!
Wow!
So much yes! Just what I needed.
Fantastic. I like this version best! You can hear his voice better and I LOVE the guitar part. My favorite is the part that starts around 3:37. Jack is always better with fewer frills and distractions in the accompaniment. I've had this on repeat since it was released. Love you so much, Jack!! Really hoping for a tour. ❤❤❤
Love it! Love Both Jackie! Brilliant! Had me none stop moving n grooving. Yet So INTENSE, AMAZING.
I love the violin it is great as a fellow violin and the guitar I can’t get enough
Genius 💓
Masterpiece
Love this version of the song so much.
Oooooh I love em both!! 🪄✨🎶💕
Джек, а давай мы не будем снова три года ждать новые релизы?
Everything Jack touches is GOLD😇💥💝
love it!
This is 3 days old and has my favorite musicians on it. So cool
So psyched for the next solo album
Então o Sr Jack White voltou? Que ótima música
Awesome!!
i just started listening to all of jack whites music a few days ago, great timing for me i guess!
This just swings!
It's such a great song he had to make two of 'em...
Fully complete in their own right. And I'm completely captured by the lyrics. You can't write this without knowing.
And I only know because I'm living it, exactly, right now...
Thanks for making your music, Jack. I've been a fan since that BBQ joint in Royal Oak, Smokehouse Blues I think. I had a buddy named Chris who worked there and actually dated Meg for a minute before you two got together. Anyways...
Just want to say how cool it has been to see how your music has matured over the decades. You have a genius that's not always apparent, sometimes purposely obscurred by walls of noise.
You use music like a weapon, to convey an idea...
It's intelligent rock. And your contributions to the whole of music are yet to be fully realized. And that's awesome.
Your Conan interviews, your collaborations, your SNL performance recently, these two new albums, all depict someone who still has something original to say, in the midst of a sea of same.
It's refreshing to hear new music from you. You've come a long way, man... pedal down.

Edit: the restaurant was Memphis Smoke.
Postscript: perhaps one of the best days in the history of rock and roll in Detroit, was when 89X
played your entire new White Stripes album cover to cover with no interruptions... basically two hours of the best radio broadcast in real time, I'd ever heard. By time they got to Conquest, I was like blowing out my car speakers. What a great moment, 89X (RIP)...
Anyway, glad to have you back, sir. Keep saying things people nay not want to hear, but need to, hidden in plain sight under layers of sonic craftsmanship.
Steady as she goes...

This ones my favorite!!
I didn't realize there were two versions.. that's so cool!! This one is so good too!
The musicianship is otherworldly 💙
This is so good. Nostalgic 🍂
Nice job stretching out and hitting multiple generations with a dual release! Brilliant!
Well I like both versions. thank you, I know what I wil do tomorrow.

I love this version too!
