"Remember when I promised I'd kill you last? I lied..." I had a teacher in grade school who would quote Commando relentlessly, so it is ingrained in my memory for better or worse 😅 It's a lot of over the top action with a great cast (Bill Duke, David Patrick Kelly, and Dan Hedeya all delight in their scenes and deaths), a catchy steel drum soundtrack, and more one-liners than you can fire an endless barrage of bullets at (without reloading 😉).
Commando is one of those rare perfect movies. It doesn't waste any time in telling it's story nor does it overstay it's welcome once the conclusion is reached. Everyone involved is aware of exactly what kind of movie it is and had no pretensions of the story being taken seriously. The score is simultaneously oddball and brilliant (those steel drums!!!). Arnold is a force of screen presence all on his own here, with the Adonis-physicality of his musculature and relentless tapestry of one-liners spilling out of the screen throughout the entire movie and washing across you in a glorious embrace of peak 80's. And of course, Vernon Well's Bennet with his chainmail vest is a great foil, iconic on his own as well. For me, Commando is the purest an Arnold movie has ever been, and it never ever fails to entertain.
''This movie is so bad its actually amazing.'' Lol. I never once in all the countless times I have watched this movie failed to grin at the cheese all the way through. Every one liner and explosion is amazing
If you notice, the yellow Porsche was damaged in the side collision with the red convertible, but when Arnold flips it upright and drives off in it, the side is undamaged.
That song at the end is by The Powerhouse and the singer for this song is Michael Des Barres. Michael Des Barres played a manic assassin in the '80s TV show, MacGyver. He kept returning every so often to try to kill MacGyver again and again.
Great to see your smile and hear laughter from you again, especially after episode 9 of "Band of Brothers". Want another Arnie film? "Kindergarten Cop" is a great Arnie film, where he's "left in charge" of a nursery class as an undercover cop. And that's all I'm saying. :)
As many people before me have pointed out, _Commando_ may not be the best film that Arnie ever made, but it's definitely the most Arnie film that he ever made. The ending teases a sequel, but sadly there was never a Commando 2. The film made a good profit, so I can only assume that scheduling or money demands were too much of a problem. We can always pretend that Predator was the sequel! If you're wondering which Arnie film to watch next, I recommend one of his comedies (Twins, Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Jingle all the Way). They are all good fun.
This was essential viewing for impressionable young lads at the time lol! Playgrounds across the land would be full of quotes from this and 'Predator'. Such a fun action film - it knows exactly what's required of it and just gets on and delivers.

The guy playing Bennet is the same guy who played the Mohawked Wasteland Warrior in Mad Max 2, who then later went on to play a caricature of that character in the 1985 film "Weird Science" with Anthony Michael Hall.

She would love the Renegade TV series with Lorenzo Lamos!! LOL!!
Just after Matrix drops Sully off the bridge... Cindy: "What did you do with Sully?" Matrix: "I let him go." Another banger!
28:12 I can tell you, where you_ve seen this... It's the same location as Victor's house in Beverly Hills Cop (1984)
Yes, infantry weapons systems have instructions, many are printed right on them.
9:39 "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just going to tear your _car_ apart to make sure I have no comfortable place to _sit."_
Sully screaming, ooh la la! is a one time thing in the movies. 😂
With Arnold there is no lines, and rocket launchers actually do have instructions on them so that someone doesn't end up doing exactly what she did
Hi Dawn, as always, love your content!! Here's the following movies of Arnold Schwarzenegger that you can watch:
Conan The Barbarian - 1982, Conan The Destroyer - 1984, Eraser - 1996, Jingle All The Way - 1996, Junior - 1994, Kindergarten Cop - 1990, The Running Man - 1987, Total Recall - 1990, True Lies - 1994, Twins - 1988.
and there is also a movie called last action hero
@@kris8356 I know, I wasn’t sure if she already watched it. I should’ve included it, but thanks for letting me know.
I watched this back in the 80's when I was twelve. I still have the action figure of Arnold from the movie (ages 4 and up). Yes...correctly marketed.
This man took out at least 150 troops alone.
All the 80's cheese you need all rolled into one movie!
