I am just getting caught up on this case. Sentenced to 28 years in prison for second degree murder, with 10 years consecutively added on for child abuse for bruising their baby. Joe Elledge is 28 years old in 2023, so hopefully Joe serves his ENTIRE combined 38-year sentence, which means he is released from prison at the ripe old age of 64 (sentenced in 2021). Joe's appeal for his murder conviction was rejected earlier this year (one bit of great news!) I really pity Mengqi and Joe's child, Anna, who is unfortunately being jointly raised by Mengqi's parents in China during summers and Joe's mother, Jean Geringer, in Missouri during other times. Their daughter Anna Elledge will eventually grow up and discover that: (1) his father murdered his mother, (2) his mother was murdered in the same bedroom where Anna was present at the time, (3) Joe drove out into the desolate woods with her dead mother in the car trunk while Anna rode in the baby car seat and buried her mother in a shallow grave while Anna waited in the car, and (4) Joe's original explanation for Mengqi's disappearance was that she deserted her baby and ran away to China when in fact her father killer her mother, but told the lie to police that Mengqi recklessly flew to China and left her baby behind.
I think as an adult, it's your own responsibility to protect yourself. It's not her parents' fault. The dumpling incident mentioned in 48 hours, just this incident alone is a big red flag. I would definitely leave that guy after dumpling incident. There were so many red flags about that guy at least one and half years before the death of Mengqi, but she chose to stay anyway.... It's a regret that she missed many chances that she could flee and save her life. she was too young and she didn't want to make her parents worry ( I understand, I myself is an international student in US) but she could go to Chinese church to ask for help.
Duhh, you do realize that a man would be more prone to commit murder when it comes to the spouse/ companion cheating? Men sometimes kill the person their cheating with.
@@belkarm5114. I saw a documentary and apparently she was writing to someone. They didn’t say he lied about it although maybe he set it up to look like she was. Yet investigators could figure that out.
You should watch the very informative and objective "48 Hours" feature on her murder. Joe Elledge is basically a domineering, controlling sociopath who was repeatedly abusive to her emotionally, verbally, and physically, and loved to frequently gaslight her. She started corresponding with someone in China during this time, presumably a male. You could call this "emotional cheating", but she never met the email-pal in person. Joe isolated her to a life of just caring for her baby and being the only income earner while he still was attending college. Both Mengqi and Joe secretly recorded their arguments on their own smartphones and they both left copious background information on their computers that police discovered. Joe even was recorded on Mengqi's cellphone making many veiled threats to her, her baby, and also threatening to throw her mother out of their apartment while both mothers were present in their apartment. Joe was also the one who told Mengqi that he wanted a divorce. Men sometimes kill women who want to leave them. You should watch the "48 Hours" documentary that plays back a lot of the arguments that both Killer Joe and Mengqi recorded on their smartphones. Joe just selectively recorded his nicer speech, while Mengqi recorded 4+ hours of very intimidating and degrading speech (e.g. gaslighting and belittling Mengqi that she is "just a woman", even though Mengqi was the only one earning money to pay for EVERYTHING while Joe still attended college)
IKR, but in East Asian..people don't really care about WMAF (mostly Southeast Asia who are kind of more obsessed with being a mestizo/caucasian wannabe). Most people just want to keep in the culture. In a lot of cases, the WMAF ends up divorced tho. Plus a lot of AF who roam with WM are average at the best/below average/cutoff. Only some attractive/pretty AF that WM can get
