  • Rediscover the band that CHANGED MUSIC FOREVER.
RUN D.M.C. were the Beatles of Hip-Hop. Darryl "DMC" McDaniels was a comic book nerd who pretended his way into hip-hop stardom and changed the world forever.
We dive into Darryl’s journey from a shy Catholic school boy, being bullied to becoming an icon in the music industry. Darryl shares his struggles with the dark side of stardom, which lead to alcohol abuse and drinking a case of 40-oz bottles per day.
Darryl opens up about confronting the realities of adoption trauma after discovering he was adopted at the age of 35, the pressures that lead him to suicidal ideation, and his diagnoses of suppressed emotions & OCD.
He also REVEALS the origins of Run D.M.C.'s famous remake of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way," their signature fashion style ("Adidas with no laces!"), their close relationship with the Beastie Boys, his rock 'n' roll inspirations, what it was like to be the first rap group on MTV, and grief over losing Jam Master Jay to homicide.
PLUS Darryl discusses practicing meditation through his creativity, his exciting upcoming music with Travis Barker, what music he’s listening to these days and what he thinks of hip hop and rap today, and the surprising story of how Sarah McLachlan saved his life!
Whether you're a long-time Run D.M.C. fan or new to the hip hop scene, you'll discover something new and inspiring.
This episode will leave you feeling like a fly on the wall as you witness MUSIC HISTORY - TUNE IN to MBB!

Unbelievably great episode, Mayim and Jonathan, thank you! When DMC talked about finding the Adoptees Anonymous group I actually got goosebumps and tears for how that was exactly what he needed at that exact time. Also loved his memories of Queens, I'm about 10 yrs older than he but I also grew up in Queens, and so much of what he talked about reminds me of my young childhood there. The street games, the way every mom was your mom when you were out playing, for us young ones it was magic. The comic books, especially Marvel -- my brother collected them all, and the boys, especially, would collect and trade them with each other. On the stoops! And the radio stations and popular DJs, the Danbury Fair, OMG!!!.... In the conversation Mayim and DMC mentioned the decline of disco while rap and new wave were coming in. I'd suggest that it was the racist/homophobic/misogynist "war on disco" that emerged in the late 70s that actually fueled the rise of rap/hip-hop, because hip-hop filled the hole left by disco in many people's souls. People have to dance!

This was,by far, the best episode of a podcast that I've seen in a very long time!! I continued to have goosebumps thinking back to being a little 9/10 yo white girl listening to Run DMC in my bedroom for the first time. Darrell is a legend, not just in Hip Hop but also in our American culture as a whole. He touched, with Rev Run and Jam Master Jay, an entire generation.

I have a distinct memory of the first time hearing "Sucker MC's" at Skate Key in The Bronx when the whole place (including me) erupted in mayhem. Then whenever the kids in our neighborhood would be on the stoop listening to it and making up our own raps in their style. I still have the notebook we wrote in with my first ever rap, "Take a Bath Homeboy". 🤣 Thank you Run DMC! ❤

This was an incredible interview, I’m speechless and overwhelmed again. There is something divine happening between you , the guests you invite, the questions you ask, their willingness to open up about their lives and the way they all have something or a few things that directly are connected to my life journey either past or presently or both. This years guests particularly are sharing things that are more than a coincidence. Cried at the story he told at the moth in 2007 re 1997 - her music saved me that year as well as 99 and 00, Lilith fair 2x , his journey from 38-56 is just so uplifting, I enjoyed his search into mysticism after raised Catholic , I can completely relate to that, the meeting of his mom and the tattoos and having met his sister before just WOW, belief that meditation is a state of mind - I agree . I could go on he is so intelligent and articulate, love his taste in music , same . Except I love Motown . Lastly, there is a divine God that certainly intervenes with some of us who are open to it . He wasn’t placed in that foster family that raised him by chance . Wishing it was a simpler time , like standing in circle cheering as classmates are breakdancing at recess …… To happier times ☀️💖🌼🫶

So... I'm looking up some old Run DMC content... and now I discover Mayim Bialik has a UA-cam Channel, with a theme song done by what sounds like They Might Be Giants, and she's interviewing D. Have I landed in the Twilight Zone?!?!?

    Music is living feelings.
The heart start singing and dancing before the body does💓
I'm currently listen to a song that's just called "Be music"
🎶Hey there should be music wherever you are
and when it's at its best
    Play it again and again🎶
Don't bother to find it though, the original is not in english.

Do you have it in the works to interview Katt Williams? His comedy is without cuss words, he’s well read, inspirational story of leaving home, staying away from certain behaviors and drugs, knowledge of the Bible & truths to show if God is real, not coming from a “churchy” way.
