    Citroen finds itself yet again searching for an identity unique from its Peugeot sister brand under its new Stellantis management.
    To that end, it has transformed its C4 hatch into something which more closely resembles a small SUV.
    Now competing with some interesting rivals like the Toyota C-HR, Subaru XV, and Mazda MX-30, is this move by Citroen the right one to keep it relevant in a tough marketplace?
    We take a look at the single C4 varian available in Australia at its launch, the Shine.
    With a new focus on comfort, what does the C4 bring to the table to set it apart from its rivals? We take a look at both its price and its features to see if it can stay competitive. We'll also assess its unique points on the inside, as well as analyse its interior space to see how practical it is.
    We'll also be taking a look under the bonnet to see if its updated three-cylinder turbocharged engine can punch above its weight as it has done in the past, and whether the combination of a smooth torque converter automatic transmission and interesting suspension components give it an edge.
    We'll also talk about its safety offering and what you can expect it to cost you over five years of ownership.
    Has the C4 found its place in Australia's notoriously competitive market? Watch on to find out.

    After having driven this car for some months now, I can testify the spoiler in the rear window being ingenious. The placement of it is such, that it shades off a large portion of the head lights from the car behind you. Amazingly comfortable while night driving. I can strongly recommend this car, worth every coin you put in it. And my wife, easily suffering from motion sickness, doesn't have to use any medication any longer when we go out for a drive.

      althrough the spoiler was not desighned for that and is just a coincidance with your driving possition, i agree that this car is worth it... there is no other car on the market in its class that offers such a soft and calm riding experience ... well other than another citroen

    I would love to buy a new Citroen. I am a very happy Owner of a C5 Exclusive Tourer, which is amazing to drive and has proven to be very reliable . It handles like a dream especially when winding through the bends. Service is reliable but the importers obviously do very little to market Citroen in Australia. Citroen is the most closely guarded secret in Australia and Inchcape do nothing to share this amazing, beautiful and wonderful range of vehicles. I am awaiting for the plug in Hybrid to be sold in Australia. I hope I'm not waiting too long.

    Saw one in Nuriootpa South Australia today while on a wine tour. It looked awesome. More people should drive French cars to fight the dullness 😁

    Renault Arkana is a close competitor yet I prefer this - it looks amazing 👍

      My thoughts exactly and both brands could price them much better than other cars in their range. Easy for the rebadged Samsung (Arkana), but we'll done Citroen! It would be great to see more of both on our streets.

      uh hardly the arkana / conquest , is at a much higher price, and a bit better in class id say, all of the issues stated in the video above, are not present at it.

      well the renault megane conquest is not in the same class really.... its a hybrid with more luggage space so the C4X is really the car that competes with the renault you mentioned
      i just got my C4 and my dad has the renault and he has second thaughts becouse of the C4s good drivability 😂

    It’ll be interesting to see how these new generations of Citroen perform in Australia considering Ferrari sold more cars than them last year. They definitely have a bit of work to do.

    Great review and great car, but like with everything Peugeot or Citoren in Australia, I can guarantee that Inchcape (the official distributors) will go out of their way to not sell a single one!

    I would love to give the brand a try but such poor sales and lack of dealers network is a concern.

      Citroen’s been here for a long time. The reason for poor sales and network is purely due to being privately imported.

      @@booz394 loving every moment - Avg 6.1L/100km
      Someone rare ended me a couple days ago 🫣 and they have available parts in Sydney. Should have my car back in a couple weeks.
      114kw - has no issue overtaking cars.
      Very smooth ride.

    The previous generation Citroen definitely derailed the brand image but this generation is putting it back in place. I can't still think of better everyday car than the early 2000 Citroens whether that be C4, C3, C6 or the magnificent C5.
    Coming from european background and having spent over 50K on Mitsubishi Triton just to suffer back pains every second day I truly anticipate the launch of the new C5X and can't honestly give a damn of a resale value cause now one is taking that off my hands hahahaha

    My partner and I would love to consider a Citroen but concerns over their reliability and dealer network persist. I have to admit, they make desirable and unique products.

      I have a 3 yr old C4 Cactus and not a single item requiring attention. Previous Citroens had great service and reliability. Continental Cars give fab service & loan cars.

    • @whiskeybluez
      @whiskeybluez 2 роки тому +1

      I have had 1x C3. 4x C5's (all sorts of engines) and a C4. Can personally attest that their reliability should be the least of your worry.
      Had few VDubs too and can say Citroens are so much more reliable in general.
      Parts not expensive too, European Auto Imports is one place in Melbourne that has most of the parts for those cars although you will have to do the occasional dealer of overseas purchase for some bits and pieces
      You will have to find your indie mechanic that will look after the car properly though.
      At the end of the day, Citroen is not an A-to-B car such as Toyota.
      Citroen is more of a love affair.

      i never had an issue with citroen... i driven 2 generations of the Grand picasso, the older rally C4 and now the new 3rd gen C4
      i have 3 2018 citroen grand spacetourers and 2 VW tourans for my workers and noone wants to drive the VW even though they are pretty well equiped since i didnt go for the basic models... so far the only issue with the citroens was a faulty batery that was just switched for a new one through waranty while with the VWs ... well they allready started to rust even though they are only 3 years old and recently got the info that they have the worst chassis protection unlike with citroen where they check every 2 years durring service and is also under warranty in my region.
      but like with all cars it all depends how YOU drive your car and what you actually want from them

    Pity Inchcape is so hell bent on not selling cars in Australia, only one engine, the only one not suitable for Australia, this car is made with Diesel and Electric which are both better choices than a petrol engine that needs 95 fuel, but no Inchcape yet again ignores the engines that people would actually buy and only brings in the petrol, and they didn't even bother tuning it for the fuels that are available here.

  • @stendecstretcher5678

    We took a chance on a new Citroen a few years ago. Apart from the high price of servicing and parts the dealer mechanics had no idea how to diagnose and fix the car. Never again will I buy any European car. Don't buy European cars here mechanics in Australia are not up to the task of fixing them.

    • @whiskeybluez
      @whiskeybluez 2 роки тому +1

      There are some specialist places that deal strictly with European cars and are really good at it.
      Don't expect your average kmart mechanic to know anything about citroens or other european cars for that matter.

    It received the 4 star safety rating because it scored poorly on the crash test. 76 % for adult occupant safety is relatively poor and below the 80% cutoff for 5 stars. Plus it also has the other issues mentioned in the review.

    That stupid split rear window AGAIN! When will the "designers" learn?

    • @booz394
      @booz394 2 роки тому +1

      It’s actually a wonderful thing at night… i had it on the Citroen and on an older civic type R…
      While you can clearly see vehicles through the rear view mirror; the split (somehow) manages to filter the blinding dazzling effect of vehicle’s light beams at night.
      reversing is negatively effected, however the camera/pdc nullify that hindrance.
      I truly love the split ;)

    How about drinking your coffee whilst parked and why is there so much deal breaking emphasis put on water bottle holders 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂ 1.2L engine it's not a racing car drive accordingly. Unfortunaely or fortunately most new build cars vision is restricted due to the higher sides etc which are part of the safety features in the event of an impact so yes vision will be impacted
