There's a man in my town that has an amazing car collection. (To say the least..) He has a 2000 Cobra R and he drives it occasionally. ...If hes not driving his New Ford GT lmao.. Must be nice!
Absolutely love my plain ol' 2013 GT, however if I was offered a Cobra R or Cobra Jet, I wouldn't be mad! I remember playing Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 and rocking this thing almost all the time, and now I still drive it in Forza. It's still my dream to find a New Edge Stang, preferably a Cobra, and build my own Cobra R with it.
I remember tearing a picture of that car out of a magazine when I was a freshman. I said when I make it I’ll have this, needless to say I just bought a mk3 supra🥳
I remember this being my favorite car when I was 12. There was a motor trend feature back in the day of this, a ZO6 vette and a viper going on a road trip. I think the color is actually called "ticket me red."
Car was a monster. Probably one of the most important mustangs ever made in regards to where product development has taken the mustang today. Completely ahead of its time, and there were only maybe 20 cars in the world that could touch this lowly ford at the track, most of which were Italian exotics. There wasn’t a German 4 seater coupe that could come close to this vehicle in performance. The only other American car that could hang with this one was the venerable Chevrolet Corvette z06 powered by the famous ls6.
A guy who owns Laporte tire center in Laporte, Texas ordered two of them in 99 or 2000. He kept one in the show room a drove the shit out of the other one. I just checked there Google maps profile. It looks like the one that was never used is still in the show room. I remember waiting on some new tires for my company truck and walking around that beautiful car back in 2001 shit I'm getting old.

This car is so rare.. I've seen it once in my life. I visited here in Miami, FL a specialty car dealer. They had a small showroom, but the treat was behind these twin deli-looking doors that lead to the holding garage. Must have been 50 cars in there. The Cobra R was sitting on a lift, way in the air. It is as majestic in person as it was on Gran Turismo. Too bad that these are basically held away.
I know a guy who has one of these exact cars, he stores it in his storage unit where I work. It has 700 miles on it, and perfect original paint. He just bought it from a car collector for 80 grand, he drives it a bit every week around town
When I worked for ford in North Ga we got one and people drove from multiple states to see it. The guy who finally bought it the drove it onto a trailer and drove off into the sunset. Never got to see it really get throttled
I remember seeing one in 2001 as a kid with my dad in a ford dealer in the showroom...if I remember correctly the msrp was around $50K, and they marked it up over $40K bringing it close to $100,000
I just seen one sitting behind a firestone by my house.. covered in sap like it been sittin under a tree or outside for some years .. ive been meaning to stop by and ask about it First one i ever seen in person
its crazy to see how the base model naturally aspirated mustang gt of today has better performance than the top tier mustang back then. technology has come so far
I long time ago I saw one of these in front of a sketchy looking used car dealer. Idk how much they where asking, but then again it could have been a regular GT with a replica body kit. I didn't stop and look.
I understand what you are saying, but these cars were rated at 385 hp, and bone stock were putting down just south of that at the wheels in factory form. Make no mistake, the economist mustang is not in the same universe as this vehicle.
395hp, no AC, carpet optional, cost almost what a Z06 of the day did. Matched or exceeded by any V8 coupe today. Then again, 2000 was nearly 20 years ago.
It's not just about hp; the suspension on this car made it a track beast. Try to take the average V8 today and try to keep up with this car on a track, and it would be absolutely destroyed and or put into a wall trying to keep up.
Ford was very conservative with the Cobra R's hp numbers. Several R's have put down 385+ for hp & torque to the wheels. It is well known they're putting out more like 430 hp at the flywheel.
Ford was very conservative with the hp & torque numbers. These Cobras actually put down 385-390 hp & torque at the wheels. It is well known they're actually producing about 440 hp at the flywheel.
I don't know dude, yeah the GT500 will no doubt be ridiculously fast, but no manual transmission really kills some of the fun factor that these cars should always have.

I could get the same 1/4 numbers with my 1986 Mustang with having wheel spin off of the line using street tires. That was using a 390W stroker two valve running an AOD, to bad Ford could not get better numbers then that with all that was done to the Cobra R.
These were great put together cars, but paying high bubble prices on these things isn’t very smart. At the end of the day....it’s a Ford Mustang. The honest value for what you get should be around $38,000-$58,000 depending on mileage/condition. To drop $75-100K on a Ford Mustang is the VERY definition of MORONIC. There are WAY, WAY better and more exotic cars to be had in the 75-100K range. Save $30,000 and buy a Terminator Cobra....it will put the SAME smile on your face with the SAME performance and you can throw that $30,000 down towards something else.
@@itserick_7669 these only weighed so little because they took everything out I'm surprised it came with a spare tire even. On God lol
I still occasionally pop in GT6 and clobber many a race. Car isnt even maxed out- makes less than 500hp in-game.
