Onefinity X-50 Journeyman: How Not To Set Up

  • I fail a lot and learn a lot in this video. I've never used a CNC machine, but have decided to jump in with both feet! Follow along as I figure out how to use this stuff. The machine is a Onefinity Journeyman X-50. I'm using Carveco Maker+ for my software.
    I realize that the machine itself is not $3,700, but im taking into account everything that I purchased from Onefinity including the probe, bits, dust boot, screen, controller and machine. As well as the router and joystick controller. That price does not include the table, which I will get into in a future video.
    Hopefully this helps some people out there like me!
    I'll post a video soon about finishing the waste board, some accessories that I bought, as well as the table that its on. An enclosure as well as dust collection are in the future as well!

    This is our favorite video to date! We really enjoyed watch it! Can't wait to see the follow up videos! Also, your info on the screen mount is noted!

    It was priceless to see your excitement when the monitor turned on... I started with this machine the same way you did. I had to learn everything that popped up, just like. It definitely brings back the memory of when I was trying to set up mine. But you learn quick. Good content for newbies.

    I just got my Journeyman Tuesday and just trying to get it running. Lots of learning, struggles and excitement trying to get my first project done. I agree with your comment on the display mount, hard to believe it can from the same people as the CNC itself.

    I have had mine since February and have been waiting for the QCW frame and rolling stand before moving forward. I have to say, I absolutely appreciate your style of video and seeing you troubleshoot through hurdles.

      I'm glad you enjoyed it! Good on you for being able to wait so long- I had ordered the QCW as well, but canceled that portion when I heard it was shipping later than my Journeyman.

    Good video. I just ordered the onefinity yesterday. I have a lot to learn also. I've never used a CNC before so it's going to be an exciting adventure.

    I could have made the exact same video when I got mine. Wasn't ready for the "extras" that needed to be purchased to make it better either. Great video.

    I am ordering soon. And what I see as a plus with this system, is everything plugs together easily, and then it works.

    Perhaps a cnc router may not hurt you, HIGHLY NOT recommended you ever take up: riding motorcycles, auto repair, electrical work, logging, wood working, rock climbing, hiking in the wilderness, taming wild animals, archery, firearms, skydiving, scuba, shark photography, sailing, operating large lathes, or milling machines, etc. They ALL require some careful study beforehand and can.....well, lets just say,......make you wish, you had read the instructions.

    Awesome Video - Mine is apparantly coming in November. Can you tell me the table size you had build

    • @HamiltonDilbeck
      @HamiltonDilbeck  2 роки тому

      Mine is 72x48. Would have built it 72x52 if I would have thought about the dust boot coming off the front. Really depends on what you're doing with dust collection.

    I've had my OneFinity a little longer than you, but within three weeks of getting it, I knocked that screen off the mount and broke it....hrumph.
    I upgraded to a much larger touchscreen and put it on a VERY secure arm that is at a much more reasonable height. I'm getting ready to order the Journeyman upgrade from my 32" X50 rail.

    I have used the Makita for years. I have lost count of the number of times that router has dropped the bit. I am going to buy a spindle and a complete set of collets if the boss ever gives approval for the purchase.

    This helps, I can see myself at this exact point. Only, you didn't mention the software or how you created the file. I need to get over that hurdle before ordering.

    • @HamiltonDilbeck
      @HamiltonDilbeck  2 роки тому +1

      I cant remember the name of it. Its an outdoor kitchen box that was sold at Home Depot. They discontinued it and I got a deal on it. Works great for the CNC after having taken the wheels off.

    Ahhh, classic error - You have spindle at same electrical phase as power source for stepper drivers. It offen generate random steps, its best visible in such case you performed in video. Spindle is huge generator of interferences, so you need to shield wire to spindle (metal hose from shower might help, for example, just loose inner tube :) ). Your plastic spindle itself is also huge generator, so at first step, wire spindle to another electrical phase, it helps in most cases. But of course, you need 3phase power source in your shop. If you are scared or dont know how, ask some electricians.

      I’ve actually been looking for a video like this, because I want to know the machine is RIGID. Of course, I’m happy to let someone else do it on their machine, not the one I end up getting!
      I first saw Garrett Fromme stand on his Longmill MK2 (impressive), then he had the cameraman move him forward while he was still on it (mindblowing!).
      @@HamiltonDilbecknless I missed it in this one, do you have any video of you doing any of this kind of thing? Thanks!
