Thomas Sowell is a liar and a hack. There's a reason he only publishes books, which are not subject to peer review. His theories are demonstrably false and easily disproven. The organization he works for (The Hoover Institution) is, by its own admission, nothing more than a right wing think-tank who comes up with ways to sell bad policy to ignorant voters. He was gifted his seat by his mentor, Milton Friedman, who is largely responsible for selling trickle down economics to Reagan, which was the beginning of America's long, slow decline and provided the theories that business latched onto that have lead to the enormous wealth disparity, worldwide.

Geography has an enormous and underestimated effect on cultural, technological and economic development. I remember my World Civilization teacher (way back in rhe 1980s) talking about the five great civilizations of antiquity - Mesopotamia, Egypt, Meso-America, the Indus Valley, and China. Part of our discussion is why some of those flourished much longer than others (Egypt and China, specifically). Our teacher thought, and I think he was correct in this, that geography played a large part. To be successful for a long time, a civilization needed enough contact with other civilizations to trade and exchange ideas or they would stagnate. At the same time, they needed enough geographic barriers to be able to defend themselves from invasion. Meso-America flourished, but then declined. He thought that was due to too much isolation. Mesopotamia flourished, had good trade connections, but was so open to invasion that it was repeatedly conquered and lost its identity and became part of several different empires. Egypt, on the other hand, had good trade through the Mediterranean sea and the Nile river, but was protected from large-scale invasion until Roman times due to being bordered on the north by the Mediterranean (amphibious landings were even harder then than they are now. Ocean borders are both good for trade and protection), on the south by mountains and dense jungle, on the east by the Red Sea, and on the west by the Sahara.

I think the impact of colonialism varied a great deal depending on its nature and how long it lasted. No one welcomed being colonised, but in most cases it wasn't much resisted. Africa was not colonised by mass armies of European troops turning up and fighting battles, mostly it was a show of technological superiority and a deal with local leaders to protect them against their traditional enemies. Often what they brought was stability. When he mentioned in this old interview people saying people thought they were better off as colonies, that was a reaction to the civil wars which followed independence. The expointation of colonies was mostly in the form of natural resources that usually the indigenous people didn't know they had, or what to do with it and in cash crop farming. This would take up land, but it also created mass agricultural production which survive today. No tea in India or Sri Lanka if the brits hadn't nicked it from China and developed the crop until it could be grown in their colonies.

So, how people "from any race," regardless of educational achievement, are treated by whites, is irrelevant to their well-being and status, because education makes them equal? Achieving education doesn't protect people from racist people who don't want them to be equal, and tell them that every day. I'm white. I have never in my life had to experience what people of color face every day. My extended family has become wonderfully diverse. I have grand nieces and nephews who are black/white, first peoples/white, Vietnamese/white, and Iranian/white. I worry every day about what these beautiful children will have to deal with as they grow up.

My husband is a direct descendant of slaves who escaped and came to freedom through the underground railway. Our whole family is multiracial and all have the same opportunities and regardless if some white person has racial tendency towards them it will not break their spirit. Geography is a major problem for Africa, it lacks the natural harbours and navigable rivers that allowed the development of civilisations in Europe and south and east Asia. You cannot underestimate the vital importance of water for travel. We tend to think of the water around Britain as a moat, but was a water way. In the pre-industrial age if one wanted to travel from London to York, you would sail there by the North Sea. China developed though river systems, as did the first civilisations in modern Iraq or Egypt. European civilisation depended on the Mediterranean Sea.

The organization he works for (The Hoover Institution) is, by its own admission, nothing more than a right wing think-tank who comes up with ways to sell bad policy to ignorant voters. The dirty secret that neither the left nor the right want you to hear: colonialism has always been a mix of good and evil. The good doesn't justify the evil, and the evil doesn't negate the good. They both exist and we have to deal with the ambiguity. Arab colonialism in Spain, for example, brought advanced mathematics (much of it originally Greek, Egyptian, or Persian) to Visigothic Iberia, which had long been a remote backwater of the Roman Empire. But it also brought discriminatory agricultural taxes against indigenous Christians. Nobody is in a position to decide whether the sum of these two things was 'on balance' good or bad for today's Spaniards. How would we even compare them?

Prior to WWII most trade was limited to the most powerful nations who could afford large militaries to defend their vessels.

When dealing with the great thinkers of our time... or honestly even just random people... if you ever come upon a word you don't understand... look it up. Always. Multiple sources if you can.
You won't fully understand the point/argument being made if you don't understand the words being used to explain it.... further if you don't understand how the person using it defines it.
I am sadly one of those people who enthusiastically enjoys political conversations... and this is a crucial element of such discussions... words like "racism", "Fascism", "Liberalism" have WIDELY varied definitions based on who is using them, so when involved in such a discussion it is CRUCIAL to agree upon, or at least come to understand, the definitions being used.
A great example.... the word "Rights"
There are 2 distinct kinds of Rights.
    Positive and Negative.
    In short:
Negative Rights exist in the absence of a person acting against you: Life, Liberty, Free Speech, etc. (America is rooted in Negative Rights)
Positive Rights require the actions of another person: Education, housing, healthcare, etc. (The EU believes heavily in Positive Rights)
So a term that we assume we know the meaning of, "Rights", can mean entirely different things to different people.
For instance.... I don't believe Positive Rights exist, because I don't believe anyone has the right to the labor of another person.
It's very difficult to have a meaningful conversation, or even learn about a topic without defining the terms being used.
(Damn.... I got wordy again... LOL)

The corporate colonisation that Thomas is referring to is that of Blackrock, WEF, UN, and NATO, as they have an agenda to make every country around the world the same. No borders, no barriers, the same digital currency-CBDC-this is being done by extreme ideologues in government-Democrats, Labour, Socialist, and communist parties alike.
It's not the colonialism that we know through history; this time it is being done differently via digital data, banking restrictions, travel restrictions, and lockdowns-not the control of land but more the control of finance.
