No autotune or other gimmicks just pure talent. They got their name one night in a night club where they were performing and a patron yelled out "Brothers that was righteous!", it sounded good to Hatfield and Medley so they became the Righteous Brothers that night.
Great reaction Jay! If you haven't done it yet, "Unchained Melody" is a must do for all Righteous Brothers fans!!
The Righteous Brothers were part of my teen years. We had the greatest music in the 1950s and 1960s. They were referred to as "Blue-eyed Soul". check out "Unchained Melody", "Soul and Inspiration" and "You'll Never Walk Alone".
PURE VOCALS ❣️
NO PUMPING UP HIS VOICE WITH ANYTHING ‼️‼️‼️
Actually they weren't brothers at all, that was just a stage name, their names were Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield. Medley was a Bass-baritone and Hatfield had an amazing natural Counter-tenor voice. If you want to hear it again listen to their recording of Unchained Melody.
They got the name from a group of Marines at a Club that said you guys are Righteous brothers after hearing them sing.
you should also listen to bobby hatfield doing summertime, he comes close to breaking the sou d barrier LoL
The American musical duo Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield, who formed the Righteous Brothers in 1963, got their name from Black Marines at the El Toro Marine base in Orange County, California. After a performance, an African-American audience member would shout, "That was righteous, brothers!" and when the Marines would greet them, they would say, "Hey righteous brothers, how you doin'?"
"My ears are being baptized" Awesome!!
You have to listen to UNCHAINED MELODY by The Righteous Brothers. My Grandparents have turned me onto music from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s. I’m graduating from college and my grandparents developed a playlist of these incredible musicians, songwriters, and timeless music. The thoughtfulness and time that was put into this gift, will forever be remembered ❣️
The Righteous Bros. (Bill Medley & Bobby Hatfield) had a string of hits including "Soul & Inspiration" and "Unchained Melody". There's also a y/t video of them singing "You'll never walk alone" on Ed Sullivan's show that's just jaw-dropping. Back in the day, it was called "Blue-eyed soul". Rest in peace Bobby Hatfield.
The most played song of the 20th Century
Sorry, Bohemian Rhapsody holds that title.
@@joycepalm9190 Don't believe it!
@@entropy2002 It's the most streamed. If you judge by radio play alone, other songs top the list, especially Righteous Bros.
You're expression of joy is transparent for us all.
Unchained Melody next please!
That's what real talent is all about !!!!!
GEN Z has no idea what their missing. Sad day for y'all!
1:57 THAT'S an eargasm!! Yeah those melodious voices are wonderful on the senses. 😊
💯 perfect reaction. This is when musicians sang clearly and every word could be heard and understood.
Elvis did a version.
I love you are reacting to all these old bands and singers. No auto tune and just raw talent. Love these guys. My favorite group is the BeeGees.💙
They are not brothers. They were playing in a black club and someone said that’s righteous brother!
Well, they were quite Righteous!!
It wasn't a black club; it wasn't a white club; it wasn't a blue or any other color club. It was a plain ole club in Santa Ana, CA, Jon's Black Derby.
@@Aurora-tp3dy When I was in Jr. HS James Brown came to the Apollo. Everyone went crazy, but I was too young for this. Alas. Peace.
Rock and Roll Heaven is another good song by these 2
Jay....never seen you smile so big
Beautiful ❣️🤗❣️
😂 The look on your face was fantastic. Such an obvious genuine reaction I loved it ❤
Thank you! ✨
There is an even better version on a TV show of this song where they start out sitting down! The Andy Williams Show 1965 has the best Unchained Melody ever recorded!
These guys were amazing together and individually. They agreed that on every album they would each have a solo and they would always sing a gospel song. This song received the most air play on radio/tv in the 20th century. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003. The blue eyed soul genre come about because of them. A DJ at a black radio station in Baltimore before playing their music called them his blue eyed soul brothers letting his audience know that they were white. Back then white stations only played white artists and black stations only black. Their name had black stations playing them and people loved them so it didn't matter after that. Music bringing people together. Gotta love it. They grew up on rhythm and blues with Little Richard being their favorite. They were in a band called the Paramours and black Marines came to her them sing r&b and they called them their righteous brothers so when Bobby and Bill became a duo they chose that name the marines had called them. Dive into their music you will love it. Live performances
Soul and Inspiration
You'll Never Walk Alone
Just once in my Life
Unchained Melody
Summertime ( Bobby Hatfield live performance 1965)
And many others
Welcome to the world of blue eyed soul...
This was on Top of the Pops in England. After Unchained Melody(the best live performance ever), there is Soul and Inspiration, You'll Never Walk Alone on Ed Sullivan, and on Shindig...Little Latin Lupe Lu, My Babe, Justine and Koko Joe.
Bobby Hatfield (high voice) Ebb Tide, I Love You for Sentimental Reasons, My Prayer And two more phenomenal songs Stay with Me and Summertime.
Don't forget Bill singing I Just Want To Make Love To You.
Looking forward to your next reactions to this fantastic duo blending their voices together or their solos. I subscribed. Like how you enjoy pure raw talent and Bill Medley & Bobbie Hatfield bring it on home.
Totally without auto tune! Just Talent! 💖
I am 71 and back when we were in school we slow danced to these type of tunes like they are doing in the video.
OMG, slow dancing! I'm 73 and that slow dancing with the Righteous Brothers...the best!
Bill Medley: The White Soul Brother-a name he had that even underestimates his soul. Try their others. My favorites: Soul and Inspiration.
Bill is a legend, watch I’m sing Brown Eyed Woman live in 1983- incredible. ua-cam.com/video/EfsK9Q-tOkE/v-deo.html. I host this on my Bill Medley channel. Come on over!
You have to listen to Unchained Melody - live version from the Andy Williams show
You're just starting your journey with the Righteous Brothers and they had so many great hit songs, a lot of them used in movies. I hope you continue to react to more by them and for some of the songs I would suggest you fasten your seatbelt. Bill Medley is the deep baritone and Bobby Hatfield was the counter tenor. There are not enough piano keys to cover what these two were capable of in ranges. Their love songs were melodic and easy on the ears but they were known for kick ass R&B. They were regulars on Shindig back in the mid sixties and we couldn't wait for their performances each week.
GREETINGS EARTH GUY: Just yesterday I watched a youtuber nearly swoon listening to this song. Another one that is even better is Soul and Inspiration, which has the same effect on women.
This was my biggest era. So many truly talented singers. I can only think of about 3 or 4 honest singers today with this kind of talent. For me the number one is a young lady (18) from Norway, Angelina Jordan. She sings with o auto tune or fake enhance effects. She sings everything from jazz to hard rock, country, Christian, classics and more.
My initial comment is that that either you forgot the prominent placement of this song in the 1986 movie 'Top Gun' with a young Tom Cruise, or... you haven't seen it is much more likely. Check out the movie at your earliest convenience! 😏
I used to be deeply in love with Bill when I was14. When they sing together you would believe that 1 person was singing. That is how in sync they were. When you got it, you got it. ❤❤❤❤
And Bill has still got it! I saw him in concert two months ago, and got to meet him afterward! The nicest person, and still so handsome! I felt like I was 15 again! He is retiring from touring after this year, but will still be active in music.
Glad you dug this fantastic song so much. Bill Medley(deep voice) & Bobby Hatfield. The greatest duo ever! I've been a huge fan since 64. Many very good songs, Unchained Melody, Just once in my Life, Soul and Inspiration, Little Latin Lupe Lu and more. Best success on yr channel
I was a teenager in the 60s and the music from the 60s through the 80s was spectacular. Wouldn't have wanted to miss all that for anything.
SUPER Classic/ Stands the test of time
Check Simon & Garfunkel
They were playing in the south and someone shouted out "that;s righteous brothers" that's how they got their name
They got their name from a Black Marine stationed at El Toro, Calif, about an hour drive south of Burbank, where the TV station was. The Marine shouted “That was righteous, Brother!”. Both singers are from Anaheim (think Disneyland), CA, and loved “Black “ music.
Do the Platters 'Only You'. Thx
The Righteous Brothers were amazing. Elvis also does a stunning version of this beautiful song.
For the Righteous Brothers, you MUST listen to Unchained Melody.
Two other songs that are sung by Bobby only that I love are Unchained Melody and Summertime. They are very different type song but both my faivorites
First time watching you and I watched all the way through. I enjoyed your reaction ... it is so nice to see a younger generation not only listening to, but really appreciating the music from my day. You're right - we had the best music (60s, 70s and some in the 80s), I feel privileged to have lived during those times. I think I may check out more of your reactions. God bless you.
Check out Righteous Brothers singing You'll Never Walk Alone and Unchained Melody (the slightly longer that contains a little of their banter before the song.)
You would love Bobby singing Unchained Melody ...the live version ...it's got to be the greatest performance I've ever heard ....The Righteous Brothers with Unchained Melody on the Andy Williams Show
💙
Thank you for the heart! I appreciate it!
You just popped up and I love your reaction!
So genuine... These guys were my older sister's generation. I remember watching her do her makeup and snap her gum while listening (and dancing) to the Righteous Brothers.
Now do "Unchained Melody." It is my guess it will also make you smile. 😎✌
Thanks!
I couldn't wait see your reaction when " the other one" hit those high notes, you didn't disappoint.💙
💙💙💙
Listen to Bobby sing unchained melody and summertime both amazing wild bill
I'm always so thrilled whenever I hear someone of your generation discover this music and enjoy it so. (How could you not?) But then on these reaction channels, I never see the reactors dig in and listen to some of the other songs that shared the top 40 chart with this song at about the time time. Here are a few songs from the same period -- early 1965 -- that was on the pop chart. I think you'd get a real kick out of all of them.
"The Boy from New York City" - The Ad Libs
"The Birds and the Bees" - Jewel Akens
"The Name Game" - Shirley Ellis
"How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) - Marvin Gaye
"Downtown" - Petula Clark
"All Day And All of the Night" - The Kinks
"Shake" - Sam Cooke
1964 and 1965 were incredible years for music -- transformative years in which popular music went from being a part of our lives to becoming something around which our entire culture was based. I know you'd love hearing any one of these songs.
I hope I beat you to the punch.... I didn't know you did this one 😂Well i didn't see Air Supply... Some of the best Vocalist in the business!❤️🔥They NEVER Missed! Anything you look at will be fine😘TRUST!
Unchained melody is next,!
****###. Have you listen to Angelina Jordan yet? She's maybe ? 18 - 20 yrs old now...she WON Norway has talent when she was 7 yrs old....and then was on AGT at 13 yrs old..... She has been recording songs since she was 5-6 ? yrs old... look her up in utube in Norway has talent ..then AGT... Then in her own utube site is recordings of just about every song she ever sang...I love her voice...it's very unique...been following her for many years.. In Norway, she sang 3-4 songs..listen to them all...and in AGT She sang 3 songs ..listen to all 3 of them....
Great reaction again. You need to hear "UNCHAINED MELODY". I think it’s their best ever song. I know you’d love it. Thanks for the reaction. 🙏🏼💙
sounds a lot better .. then lets fuck .. in modern songs ..
It's called blue-eyed soul.
Harmony soul talent...drop the mic!!
Hall & Oats does a great job on this song too.
Please react to their song
Rock And Roll Heaven.
It's a great song.
There's a video on here where they're asked how they got their name.they answer they were thinking of a combination of their names but it wasn't working.then they performed down south and at the end of a song some guy stood up and said that's righteous brother.they decided to use that.
That was on the Andy Williams Valentine Day TV show where they chat before Bobbie does his unbelievable solo of "Unchained Melody".
@@pharamathews5152 yes I did recognise the interviewer but his name escaped me.
Although I'm from the UK and not quite old enough to have seen his shows I do know Andy Williams.
Jay flex, I just stumbled onto you about a week ago and I just love you. You are so fun to watch and hear your break down. You are a gem.

Than you for this wonderful reaction to this legendary group. Others have made great suggestions, but I would like to add to this list. Watch Bill Medley’s amazing performance of Brown Eyed Woman live in concert - ua-cam.com/video/EfsK9Q-tOkE/v-deo.html. Then watch Bill and Bobby really sing the blues in Night Time is the Right Time - ua-cam.com/video/7wRA9tfEwLs/v-deo.htmlsi=nuxE_u4YXZY7uu4f. Thanks for appreciating the music of my generation M

There is a better video of this. Bobby adds his great voice.
