What an awesome episode! I love listening to Joe talk, he is an encyclopedia of music knowledge! Def Leppard is my all time favorite band and put on an absolutely amazing performance!
"Rock of Ages" changed my life. I was so blown away by it when i heard it on the radio. I sat around my amfm cassette deck all day ready to record it. Good times
Def Leppard is one of those bands that I’ve never actively consumed, but always respected. I seek out their interviews because they’re so interesting, and they seem so affable. Appreciated this.
This was awesome - my favorite comedians interviewing one of my favorite lead singers! Joe was sharp and had great stories- loved the one about David, Kid Rock and Chris Rock.
Same here...my dad recorded the Photograph video on MTV and watched that video over and over. Now, Photograph is still one of my all time favorite songs.
I saw them in 03 summer during the x tour.. and it was the best concert out of all I’ve been to.. it’s the best concert I’ve been to ever.. the mood after lasted days.. I feel so old but joe is talking about mid 74 and I realized I was born end of 74… I don’t feel so old now.. I’m a nan now . I have grown sons and 2 grandsons..I realize I am old.. 49 is old now 😢 Joe’s right their core audience is always gonna be there.. and there’s is genx .. we’re so stuck we’re not going anywhere…
Can always appreciate Joe's savant level musical knowledge and for better or worse his business sense for the band has been one major aspect of their longevity. Glad Dana brought up the DL t-shirt he wore as Garth. Old school DL is a must on any rock n' roll playlist. Cheers
This interview was only 47 minutes long? It could've gone on another hour and I still would not have been bored. This is definitely my favorite episode yet.
My first concert was in a small venue in Gainesville, GA in 1981 during my freshman year of high school. Def Leppard opened the show, followed by The Johnny Van Zant Band and headlined by Blackfoot on their Marauder tour. Def Leppard was touring for "High and Dry" and absolutely tore it up! All three bands were absolutely awesome and it changed my life!!!!
Hell yeah! I feckin love Def Leppard. I first seen them at Don Valley stadium Sheffield, for the Adrenalize tour 1993. Last seen them a year ago with Motley Crue, at Bramall lane stadium, Sheffield. I was hoping they would be back again this year, but it's looking like they're touring America. Oh, well. Maybe next year.🤞😂
I am green with envy that you attended the Don Valley show! 🤢 I’ve watched it many times on UA-cam…it’s just phenomenal! I have several UK friends who were there. I was fortunate enough to go to Sheffield last year for both their Bramall Lane AND Leadmill performance! Both were just brilliant! I just saw them here in Portland, Oregon last night too…absolutely the best! And such nice, down-to-earth lads! ❤🇬🇧🎸
@@bellroad100I was born in Sheffield, so I try to get back when Def Leppard are in town. I have my uncle to thank for the Don Valley concert. He got us tickets. I was only 14 at the time. Man, that's awesome you got to see them at the leadmill. I would've loved to see Def Leppard there. It's a great venue. I haven't been to it since I left in the late 90s, early 2000s. I think the chemical brothers were the last, "band" I seen there.
I saw Def Leppard at Southpark Meadows in Austin in '99 or thereabouts. I was on the side of the stage looking out at the crowd and when they went into "Love Bites" the knees of most of the women in the crowd buckled. Great show, and Joe is the MAN
One of my favorite bands! And one of the few concerts I still consider going to! (Them and Journey). I think I've gone to three different ones since about 2003.
Joe was great!!! "Music Industry" talk is always fun!! He's right!! "Play it like the record!! We don't want to hear the Reggae version of Sympathy for the Devil!!" LoooL!! 🤣😂🤣
Joe’s great, and the band used to be able to write some great things that they play well to this day, but the irony is they just released a dance collaboration of Photograph with someone a few days ago. Unlistenable a second time.
Captain Fantastic by Elton John was the coolest album packaging of all time. It had a gatefold opening with three seperate scrap books and a poster of the album cover. I bought it on the day of release and spent hours absorbing everything. It was like a treasure chest. The music is a whole other treasure chest.
🇬🇧 Summer of '77...I was 16 & in London, on holiday...listening to Joe recite the lineage of rock during that time brings the most amazing memories flooding back...the Roxy...the Marquee...the King (Elvis) is dead, God save the Queen... got a kick outta hearing the fanboy in both D&D's voices...they sound like teenagers, again!! PS: me, as well Dana ♡ 🏴 🇮🇪 🇸🇯
Joe has a gorgeous vice and a grate since of humour I 💕 Def leppard hysteria is my favourite Def leppard album and a personal favourite song and I've got a huge crush on Joe Elliott and rick savage ❤️❤️❤️ love you guys keep rocking guys Ann in Huddersfield West Yorkshire 💕 Def leppard 💯♥️♥️♥️❤️💕❤️❤️❤️❤️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😍
I saw Def Leppard on their first tour in Des Moines Iowa were they opened for the Scorpions and Ted nugent. The drummer's brother invited us across the street to their hotel at the Inn Polaroids of me with all the guys in about 40 other people. I was 19. What Memories. They were great guys
Just saw them a few weeks ago in Orlando, with Cheap Trick opening and Journey second. Def Leppard came on last. They all sounded great, but I was mostly shocked at Robin Zander's voice for CT and how amazing it sounds for his age. Blew me away. DL was awesome but that goes w/o saying.
Also, great interview - damn - had NO idea how sharp Joe Elliot was - as in, mind like a steel trap! The facts and things he can bring up from ages ago is mind boggling! That sounds like a guy who's never touched drugs or booze in his life! Still has every brain cell!
I never tire of watching Joe's performance at the Freddy mercury memorial wish I could have been there for his ," Tie your Mother Down " pure fire! at one point while slash is shredding a lead, Joe goes flying by in the background, I swear his feet never hit the ground!
Love Joe and Def Leppard! Saw them here in Hawaii in 1983 and then years later in 2018. As for Arnel Pineda, Neal Schon found Arnel in the Philippines 🇵🇭
Dunno anything about him / band, not their songs nothing. BUT, I feel like I grew up next door to him, I found myself completing his sentences and knowing what or who he was going to talk about next. Pretty neat how that works. Gotta check them out now.
OK, this has got VERY weird. I wrote the above while listening to the interv iew and BEFORE he talked about 'finishing each other sentences'. Obviously not a big deal but when I first heard it, it was pretty weird.
You've got a cool journey of discovery with Def Leppard. My humble advice would be start with the album Hysteria, then Pyromania and finally High 'N Dry. After that, explore the rest of their catalog at your own leisure. But, to me, those three albums are as good as any band's top 3.
wonderful interview feel by the lads. they realized a few minutes in they didn't have to prompt joe for info... so they jus sat bak and let him rip 👏👏👏
Based on all the comments it seems like most people really loved this episode. I just must not be the target audience for this particular one. I want to hear SNL stories. Still love you guys!
"Tomorrow Never Knows" was a malapropism that "Ringo" often said. He was like the "Yogi Berra" of The Beatles. If he found himself at a loss for a word or phrase, he would simply invent one! 😂
I always like listening to Joe. I love to hear his take on things, and his memory for anything music from back in the day is wild. I gotta say though, Arnel sounds nothing like Steve Perry, especially not now (he's almost 57 and has been in the band almost 17 years). I've seen them live several times since then with Arnel. Deen Castronovo actually sounds more like Perry than Arnel. If we can't have Perry, I actually wish Steve Augeri was still the singer.
My sisters ex threw pyromania in front of me and said you must listen to this! I was like what the fk! Been to loads of their shows since then. Great albums and tours!
Pyromania is the shit. I love that sound. Ricks drums are fire. Joes voice is perfect on this album. Sounds like Back n Black Brian Johnson to me. Plus Steve’s licks were epic. Idk who phrased them but, it’s awesome.
I love his attitude about playing the hits the fans want to hear (in spite of the band being more passionate about the new stuff). It's a point of pride for them to play their older songs well, as opposed to Nirvana (who I love) playing Smells Like Teen Spirit at double tempo because they had grown to hate it.
Def Leppard is absolutely one of the best bands of all time. And seeing the personalities behind the songs tells you so much of why.
I could listen to Joe talk about music for hours. Thank you for having him on!!
This was a great episode. He had so many great insights into music. His songs DEFinitely hold up.
I’m still in possession of my 1983 Def Leppard t-shirt I bought at my first Def Leppard concert ! 🎶 Fresno, CA.
I saw them in Fresno in 2006
I saw them on the Pyromania tour in Columbus, Ohio. I was a Senior in high school.
Would that have been the High n Dry album? I thought that one was their best. But I did enjoy Pyromania.
Me too! I just wore it last night at their Portland show! 🎸🇬🇧❤️
Fuckin' A bro! I too was at the Pyromania tour concert in '83, Pacific Coliseum, Vancouver. It just happened to be my very first rock concert!
What an awesome episode! I love listening to Joe talk, he is an encyclopedia of music knowledge! Def Leppard is my all time favorite band and put on an absolutely amazing performance!
Aww, Joe Elliott love him and you guys. What a fun conversation. Thank you
"Rock of Ages" changed my life. I was so blown away by it when i heard it on the radio. I sat around my amfm cassette deck all day ready to record it.
Good times
Joe is such an authentic person! Great episode!
I love to hear Joe Elliott talk about bands, music and whatever else.
Joe Elliot knows his shit💜
Def Leppard is one of those bands that I’ve never actively consumed, but always respected. I seek out their interviews because they’re so interesting, and they seem so affable. Appreciated this.
Watch the VH1 movie for fun!
Great interview, guys. That was fun!
Joe is so wonderful.❤
Okay, this was one of my favourite FOTW episodes. It had everything to inform you in an enjoyable way. Thanks!
This was awesome - my favorite comedians interviewing one of my favorite lead singers! Joe was sharp and had great stories- loved the one about David, Kid Rock and Chris Rock.
Thank you !!!❤❤🎉🎉😊 It was a great one!, But with needed a video haha
Love Def Leppard! My folks were big fans, and so basically grew up on them. 'Photograph' remains in permanent rotation on my personal playlist.
Same here...my dad recorded the Photograph video on MTV and watched that video over and over. Now, Photograph is still one of my all time favorite songs.

Love Love Love Joe Elliott since 1980!!! ❤ new subscriber.. love David Spade
Thank you for your continuous love and support ❤.
Are you on our private community?
What an absolutely fantastically fun and funny conversation!!!!!!!!
Now i'm an even bigger fan!
Great interview! Love Joe Elliott! Saw the band many times in the 1980's.
So fricking cool hearing the breakdown of the evolution of rock.
Something most celebrities have in common is they're smart as shit
Saw them with Journey and Steve Miller and they really rocked it !! Love me some Def Leppard !❤❤❤😊
This is a fantastic interview!!!!
Sounds like a really great guy 😊
Can always appreciate Joe's savant level musical knowledge and for better or worse his business sense for the band has been one major aspect of their longevity. Glad Dana brought up the DL t-shirt he wore as Garth. Old school DL is a must on any rock n' roll playlist. Cheers
Great conversations! Joe’s a music encyclopedia for sure ! I too, David, paid my dues at outside summer concerts in AZ, not anymore though.
This just bumped some of my favorite SNL guests down a notch. He was a Wiki of information and didn't stumble on all of those dates/bands/artists.
I don't think any other artist can match Joe's knowledge and recall.
A brilliant podcast guest. 👏👏
Love Love Love Joe Elliott since 1980!!! ❤
This interview was only 47 minutes long? It could've gone on another hour and I still would not have been bored. This is definitely my favorite episode yet.
Leanne Morgan’s stand up talking about the Journey/Def concert she & her husband saw in Knoxville is bust a gut hilarious. Watch it 😂
What a time to be alive! another great episode.Thank you
My first concert was in a small venue in Gainesville, GA in 1981 during my freshman year of high school.
Def Leppard opened the show, followed by The Johnny Van Zant Band and headlined by Blackfoot on their Marauder tour.

I ❤ Def Leppard!
The correct term is "of alternative hearing capability".
Calling them Def might get you in trouble nowadays!
Finally, some one who asks a singer where and when they learned to sing !
I've listened to every Fly on the Wall and I think this is my favorite episode.
Just saw them in Orlando! They were unbelievable ❤
I was there! Killer set.
Thank you Thank you thank you for giving me something funny to look forward to on Wednesdays. 🤗💖
Awesome interview! 🤘
That was an awesome interview, so interesting!!
Happy Birthday, Joe 🎂 Absolutely Amazing 😍 👏 ❤️
Thanks , Guys!! I love Joe Elliott .. he is amazing ! ❤
Need to make these video interviews. These are so amazing
We asked them for video, and they gave it to us (Superfly)...but not the way we wanted.
💯

I remember in 1977, i was 12 in England.....i used to listen to Radio Luxemburg on a Saturday night....all the great 70s music.
One of my favorite bands! And one of the few concerts I still consider going to! (Them and Journey). I think I've gone to three different ones since about 2003.

Excellent episode, interesting to hear Joe's insights on the rock scene
I will be seeing them in Arizona💪
Saw them in Minneapolis. Great show!!!
They had a Def Leppard spree on the radio today and it was a beautiful sunny day to drive around and sing along like crazy.

He could have been Jim Carrey if he hadn’t found music with his elastic face.
My sisters ex threw pyromania in front of me and said you must listen to this! I was like what the fk! Been to loads of their shows since then. Great albums and tours!
Great episode . I love these guys but end of the day this fly pod is guest driven and Joe's a great guest

Remembering Norm!!!
Please make this happen!!!!
Yeah definitely!
They could do 10 shows on that alone
Joes a class act
He grew up to be Ashley Schafer from Eastbound and Down?
For years I had believed Joe Elliott was the son of Richard Dawson. I had heard this a long time ago and didn't check it out.
I communicate with Joe
I love his attitude about playing the hits the fans want to hear (in spite of the band being more passionate about the new stuff).
