the moment you realize that the reason some of them are sleeping and look so tired isn't that they have been up all night watching UA-cam, but their life is just studying and staying in school all day long
Ah their broken English is so funny and adorable :D I really liked this video. Koreans have it way harder than I do at school which puts my own life in perspective.
This was really interesting! I'm glad you decided to share this with all of us. I've always wanted to be an ESL teacher myself. This just made me want to do it that much more.
I've been doing a lot of research about Korean schools, and this helped me know what to expect! (I'm currently studying to teach English in Korea myself.) Thank you so much for this wonderful video! :)
Wow it's so weird because I thought that most Korean boys would not play around with a balloon (high schoolers) in the hallway or any where in school. I guess that I am wrong. My high school is the same with the boys too.
This brings me back to when I was in middle school in Korea for a couple of months, the boys in Korea are so rowdy/hilarious xP Thank you for making this video!!
My mom went to a korean school when she was a kid in seoul, when I complain about school she say do you want me to take you back to Korea and study I always say no because it would be tough , even knowing it would be better for my future
Tanner Lee Omg same with me! My parents both studied in China back in 60's, they had the morning excersices etc and I'm like, from 10AM-3PM on Mondays etc XD some days are longer ofc but yeah
I can imagine how surprised korean students would be coming to Australia because we are only at school from 8:40 am - 3:20. It would be like a holiday! Aha
They'll be more surprised about us our first class starts at 7am we go back home at around 12 : 30 am sometimes 1 pm and sometimes 11 : 45 am ( I'm a middle schooler , high schoolers stays for 1-2 pm , and elementary stays till 12 or 11 : 45 am) im Asian btw :)
It reminds me of my high school life. My high school had also a English native teacher from New Zealand. I was very shy to talk in English because he looked very different from me,,still can remember his beautiful green eyes! (I didn't crush haha). The sad thing was that I couldn't speak English well though I had learned English for more than 6 years and was learning English in school. Now I can speak more well cuz I had been to US for 9 months after 24 and I got how to survive in foreign country. No pain (experience) No gain. LOL I think Language is for using it. And we should learn it, not study. Unfortunately in Korea, students are forced to study English focused to reading and grammar. Competition for good grade among students is making ineffective. It kills many young ppl's freedom and happiness. Now,,as an emerging and popular language, Chinese language will be like to English. There are already a bunch of Chinese private institutes. I'd like to tell students that Don't get used to your daily school life. Find your way what you really wants to do out of textbooks. Studying well and being a nice student in school may not bring you big presents you are expecting in future.
School life in Korea and school life from where I'm from are pretty much the same I guess.. in my school we don't take our shoes off but we have a 1hour launch break and we get to do what want if we already finished eating but we're not allowed to leave the school (you'll have to get permission from the teacher if you want to leave) my school also doesn't have janitors so we have to clean our rooms every morning and after school (Our teacher will scold us if our rooms are dirty)
I was so calm & then knew about how their school day started from 8 am to 11 pm & then i was like WHAT HOW WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO A PERSON WHY THATS NOT NORMAL THATS CRUEL BRUH, & now i kinda respect these students a looot more.
Thanks for watching. With all the comments I have gotten, I wish I had done even more videos. To teach in Korea, you need a B.A. in any subject from a credited college. That means you don't need an English degree. For example, my degree was in History, but it can be in math, science, etc. You just need one. You will also have to pass some online tests and then a phone interview. Of course, there is other paperwork involved, but it's not too bad.
8:00 a.m to 11:00p.m???? OMFG! Why do they even bother going home at all?? Americans (like me...) don't even know how good they have it. I don't know what I do without my free time after school :( I finished High School so I'm good :) I really, REALLY want to visit Korea one day, maybe even live there for a bit if I can. I want to experience a new type of culture and lifestyle at some point in my life. It will be a fun experience :) I Don't really wanna teach though, and idk any other types of jobs a foreigner can get there without being a millionaire or CEO of some company or a Yale graduate or something ridiculous like that....
somebody said "they have a problem with English..." I'd like to ask to somebody "don't you have any problem with Korean?" English is not their native language and Korean is not your native language as well. Sucker!!!!
Try searching: Hangul talktomeinkorean It leads to this really useful website and a really good video. Should be the first link if you search it on Google. I promise I'm not advertising, this site just really helped me out.
Just search "Korean alphabet"... and there's like a character representation of the western keyboard, each english letter represents a korean character, like the Q in your keyboard is B(ㅂ) ... try reading korean words first via the comments section on youtube and on korean facebook profiles, or titles of groups and songs on youtube, and then try typing them... you can learn how to read almost every syllable-combination in just a DAY. And learning how to type in korean with your keyboard is a bonus ^_^
Over here, there is no Clubs... only classes. :") But, well, it has always been like this in France as: Nursery School: 08:30 to 16:30. Primary School: 08:30 to 16:30. Junior High School: 08:00 to 17:00. High School: 08:00 to 18:00.
Reason why we get out of school earlier is that in america by the time they are in highschool is typical for them to work (to support family) while in Korea they expect the students to only be focused on study which means a longer time for them to study.(From what my mother said.)
what i really love to attend school in korea is absolutely the "schools" & their uniforms! the equipments are really advance and i like their rooms. m2m
My korean teacher told me about this and i actually didn't believed the first time, but when he showed us some videos and now looking at this one i can see how hard is for school students there. School in my country is nothing compared to that, and I actually wanted to be something like that here, even tho i already finished my studies.
At my school, they did have dorms, but the building was fairly small. So, it didn't house *that* many students. As I was leaving (around a year and three months ago), they were building new dorms.
You are correct. Once the students enter the school, they change their shoes to some kind of slipper. However, one teacher would never change his shoes. He walked in with what he had on and walked right back out.
That's a good question and I wish I could answer. We didn't give those kinds of evaluations in my school and I don't know about the other teachers at other schools.
In the winter it was quite cold at times and many times in class the heaters were not turned on. Many days I would wear my coat throughout the day, even during class.
@dustyOn3 He definitely had a big personality and made life there really fun. I haven't seen or spoken to him in almost a year, but I miss him and many of the students.
Well, some school in Malaysia have quite long studying hours as well.. We started our learning session at 7 a.m and have recess at 11 for 20 minutes. We continue our learning session until 2:15 p.m for lunch and stuffs. At 3:00 p.m we do self study or extra classes according to the syllabus until 4:30. We are allowed to have sports activities until 6 p.m. At night, we are having either self study or classes until 10 p.m but some classes mostly ends at 11. On Saturday, we must be in our classes at 8 for self study and on Sunday, we
@sabi41 Actually 4:00 is when they clean. Yes, the students clean. Many students leave school around 6:00, but then they probably have private lessons after that, but this is not always in school. They have a free hour for playing or doing homework.
You will have to do some sort of TESOL training. I did mine online, as well as many many others I knew. The training will come from your TESOL courses as well as through EPIK, which will be more hands on since you will be doing actual classroom training there.

I've been doing a lot of research about Korean schools, and this helped me know what to expect! (I'm currently studying to teach English in Korea myself.) Thank you so much for this wonderful video! :)
and now after 8 years, where have you already reached in this field?
Wow it's so weird because I thought that most Korean boys would not play around with a balloon (high schoolers) in the hallway or any where in school. I guess that I am wrong. My high school is the same with the boys too.
This brings me back to when I was in middle school in Korea for a couple of months, the boys in Korea are so rowdy/hilarious xP Thank you for making this video!!

I can imagine how surprised korean students would be coming to Australia because we are only at school from 8:40 am - 3:20.
It would be like a holiday! Aha
I have school 8:50am - 3:15pm, but I guess the times for each school in Aus are really similar to each other~ ^^
They'll be more surprised about us our first class starts at 7am we go back home at around 12 : 30 am sometimes 1 pm and sometimes 11 : 45 am ( I'm a middle schooler , high schoolers stays for 1-2 pm , and elementary stays till 12 or 11 : 45 am)
im Asian btw :)
Dang...Those are really short hours!
hhhhhhhhhhh I know right? xD
I'm usually at school from 6:00 to 5:30. That's only about 11 hours. It's relatively short.

The boys are sweet! Must be nice teaching them ^^
ahahaha I died at the CONGRATULATIONS part :')
I like that even though the hours are so long and they have uniforms and all that the school seems very friendly and fun.
Ha, those guys in the intro were hilarious.

It reminds me of my high school life. My high school had also a English native teacher from New Zealand. I love badminton xD My gosh, they look so clean, such a nice environment :0
I appreciate that. I would like to go back someday and maybe catch up on some students.

"you are my destiny" awww cuteee hahahaha
I notice that some koreans students have glasses?
Maaaaaany had glasses.
wonder why ? maybe coz they have little eyes :3
nounou breezy That may be a factor but its probably because they watch too much anime/kdramas kekeke
alot of Asian spend lots of time on computer also books thats why ^^
They are different from what I expected in K Dramas? 0.o

It leads to this really useful website and a really good video. Should be the first link if you search it on Google.
I promise I'm not advertising, this site just really helped me out.
there's an app on androids and iphones that you can get that's called Korean Letters. I already get the jist of how to read hangul :)
Just search "Korean alphabet"... and there's like a character representation of the western keyboard, each english letter represents a korean character, like the Q in your keyboard is B(ㅂ) ...

Priscillia Faure wow...here in England is from 8.30 to 3pm and then after school clubs till 4 if you want...
Over here, there is no Clubs... only classes. :") But, well, it has always been like this in France as:

Primary School: 08:30 to 16:30.
Junior High School: 08:00 to 17:00.
High School: 08:00 to 18:00.
In Brazil is from 07:00am to 12:30am in general LOL now I know why brazilian schools sucks.

If you have time, check out some of my other videos where I talk about Korea. I talk about my experiences when I came back to the states.
I love Korea ( i mean South)
Reason why we get out of school earlier is that in america by the time they are in highschool is typical for them to work (to support family) while in Korea they expect the students to only be focused on study which means a longer time for them to study.(From what my mother said.)
I love how you're like 'that's not really his name' then the boys are like 'OHHH AVACADO.OH FRUIT. OHHH!!!!" XD
what i really love to attend school in korea is absolutely the "schools" & their uniforms! the equipments are really advance and i like their rooms. m2m

Oh my god Koreans English is the cutest "YOU ARE MY DESTINY" I died. They are all so polite
I plan to study in korea during college, to be a teacher in a school in korea. These types of videos help a lot~ Thank you!
I'm glad you noticed that. A lot of Korea is about looks and presentation.
You are welcome and I'm glad you enjoy the videos.
At my school, they did have dorms, but the building was fairly small. So, it didn't house *that* many students. As I was leaving (around a year and three months ago), they were building new dorms.
they all seem really nice people :D
Ms. Cha rocks! What a look she gave you!

He said "you are my destiny" lol that was too cute
It is basically in the southeast part of Korea. There is a city called Gumi, which is about about twenty minutes south of Seonsan.
When that one boy saw the camera, "Oh! Congratulations! Oh my god.." Hahaha they're hilarious.
That's a good question and I wish I could answer. We didn't give those kinds of evaluations in my school and I don't know about the other teachers at other schools.
"I don't know those kids"
"You're my destiny" oh gosh im dying hahahahaha
In the winter it was quite cold at times and many times in class the heaters were not turned on. Many days I would wear my coat throughout the day, even during class.
@dustyOn3 He definitely had a big personality and made life there really fun. I haven't seen or spoken to him in almost a year, but I miss him and many of the students.
8 am to 11 pm ? Wow here in italy we just do from 8 am to 1 pm and then all at home but we do the saturday....but wow they're amaizing!!!

Well, some school in Malaysia have quite long studying hours as well.. We started our learning session at 7 a.m and have recess at 11 for 20 minutes. @ItzR3zR4pt0r He's a good kid actually. He just has a lot of energy from time to time.
@sabi41 Actually 4:00 is when they clean. Yes, the students clean. Many students leave school around 6:00, but then they probably have private lessons after that, but this is not always in school. They have a free hour for playing or doing homework.
@Noonaahful They wear slippers or just socks because their shoes are for outside use. They don't want them tracking in dirt or mud.
You will have to do some sort of TESOL training. I did mine online, as well as many many others I knew. The training will come from your TESOL courses as well as through EPIK, which will be more hands on since you will be doing actual classroom training there.
lol that Su Min guy is so cute! They seem very friendly
The high school and the middle school are right next to each other. When I walked out of the high school, the middle school is about 20 yards away.
