Hello greetings from Russia ! 👋 It is very interesting that we made a metal detector unit for the belt .I also want to do this, I can't decide to disassemble everything in any way))
Hello from the USA! The one piece of advice I can give you to take it apart is that once you have removed the screws which hold the halves of the handle together, GLUE is the only thing holding the control unit in place. It is VERY tough glue! I used a hair dryer on “high” to try to loosen the glue a little bit and then I worked the control pod loose from the handle assembly. Another way of doing it that I have seen is to simply CUT the handle very close to the control pod. You will need to make sure you don’t cut any wires! Once you have the thing apart, you can decide how to power it, etc. Be aware!!…the 3 meter extension cable made by Coiltek is no longer being made! So even if you got it apart, you would need to find a cable that will work. If you get that far, let me know!😃
I like everything about the setup except the fact of not being able to use headphones. How hard would it be to do that? Also couldn’t you use the original battery pack with the connector soldered on it and wear it on the harness?
Absolutely Tuffy! I just have the headphone jack stuffed back up into the back of the machine, it would be very easy to mount the jack perhaps on the side of the machine, probably various ways to do it. And you could also use the stock battery if you’re wanted to, I just did it this way to save overall weight. If you’re made a clip or holder for the harness you could easily use the stock battery. That’s what’s great about it, there are many ways to do this, this way is just one!👍 Take care and good luck out there!
@@wizardsofwisconsin7400 Yeah I’m seriously thinking about doing this to my explorer due to a tennis elbow problem. It sure would be nice to have a set up like yours! What would you say was the hardest thing about the conversion?
@@tuffy11000 Quite honestly, once the control housing was separated from the handle, nothing was hard at all. I’m not just saying that because I did it and it worked, I’m saying that because none of it was what might be considered technically hard to do. In all honesty there are many ways to carry the control housing. If you don’t even look at the screen and only hunt by tone you could put the control housing in a backpack or something. I just like to consult the screen to confirm readings...
@@wizardsofwisconsin7400 Well that’s good to know. Thanks for your input. I’ll let you know if I ever convert it. Good luck hunting and I look forward to watching your videos.
@@tuffy11000 I'm seriously considering doing this, I even bought a 2nd explorer 2 to try it with one of them.. I say do it mate, keep all the bits nice and safe tho as these machines will only get more sort after in time 👍
@@tuffy11000 I've managed to get one made for me here in england for £40 , if anybody needs the address and phone number just let me know and I'll post it on here no problem, the guy also does services and repairs on various old minelab machines ok

Do you know where I can get the Coiltek cable? It seems to be unavailable everywhere I look.
I’m sorry I don’t. I’m hearing the same thing from others....it’s unavailable right now.
Are you still looking for an extension cable,
No I actually found one. Do you need one?
