Indian red cedar body, maple neck/fretboard, HS Duncan Designed p'up config...it heads away rivals any Fender MIM models I've owned, and gives the Americans a run for sure. Only ever saw 1 of it's exact config/spec/build go up for sale in the past 8 years. Rare gem.

It was so inexpensive that I decided to keep it, and these days I usually forget about the damage because it sounds great, stays in tune, and I don’t have to worry about knocking it around.
The Classic Vibes are _fantastic_ guitars. I have the sunburst version of the same Tele from a few years back and I play it as much as my US- and Mexican-made Fenders. Also, for all the US folks, Andertons will, at least the last time I checked, ship Squiers to America at a quite reasonable rate. I got a Fiesta Red Classic Vibe Strat from them, a color not available in the US, and it turned out the cost was a bit less than buying a run-of-the-mill Classic Vibe domestically. The delivery shockingly quick from the UK to USA. Another fine video. Give yourself a pat on the back and keep up the good work.
The Chinese Vibes were even better. They were the same factory as an actual Fender that was out for a while, a Modern Player or something? I had a Chinese and an Indonesian made side by side (Indo was a Strat though) and the Indo was more like the older, cheaper "Vintage Modified" in quality. Still good but those Chinese ones were quality.
@@Chirn70 True Chim, those Fender Modern Players where the real deal & The Jaguar's, Marauder's & especially The Starcaster's are becoming rare, well sort after & ever 📈 in price. Top notch 🇨🇳 build & quality control.
I just picked up a Baja for £600. I'm honestly not sure I got the better deal. Wow! A lot of things are being done better: full thickness body, string through, binding, walnut plug in the truss (don't even get those on MIM), no silly metric parts .. Just blown away. Great, great value! Edit: I'd wrap the ferules in a bit of newspaper and titebond them in. Them not being tight to the body is robbing you of 0.4545% of your toan!
Colin, I saw the olive green the other day and the only thing that kept me from hitting "buy" immediately was that I had a Squier FSR 60s Custom Esquire on the way, as well as an Epiphone Les Paul Standard 60s, both in black! The Esquire has the same sharp nut, which I didn't notice until after I restrung it after swapping the saddles and polishing the frets (the frets were 100% playable, but I just like them extra polished). I'll sand that edge off the next time I change the strings which knowing me might not be until next year! Anyway, the olive green Tele looks just as brilliant as my black Esquire. I love the slim neck profile.
Another terrific view, in-depth and unbiased. I recently picked up the Squier CV Thinline Tele that also has the laurel fretboard. I treated it with 'Monty's Guitars Montepresso" and it darkened it indistinguishable from a rich rosewood. I'm not a shill for them in any way, just an ordinary 'bloke' from the States, but it's really good stuff for making laurel look and feel like rosewood.
Fantastic channel. Just love the consistent reviews of similar style guitars, especially the Epiphones. Warm personality, knowledgeable, great playing style.
I own the Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster and I absolutely love it. Now it's a boat anchor ⚓at 9.5lbs but I do 95% of my playing sitting down....so not a problem . I'm a little behind watching your videos..but I love watching every single one... No nonsense reviews are hard to find .. most videos are sponsored and more like a commercial. You do such a great job demonstrating these affordable guitars that are well made for the price. Those Squier Classic Vibes seem to hold their own. They're all stageworthy..
I recently "discovered" this channel because I was interested in the Epiphone LP Custom (and I still am...). It is really a fantastic UA-cam channel with great content. I was looking for a video about the Squier CV Telecaster in this very channel just yesterday... this is just great timing! :)
Missed having a telecaster around, so I have a Squier 40th Anniversary Telecaster Vintage Edition in Dakota Red showing up today. Bought a Player series (from a vendor that rhymes with Sitar Denter.) The "new" guitar was missing the selector switch cap, the output jack was literally falling out of the body, and the neck had a serious bow that didn't budge after a full turn and a half on the truss rod. So, returned that and bought the Squier (from a different shop). I joke with people all of the time that if the guitar quality at this price point existed when I first started playing, I might be a much better guitarist than I am today. Then again, maybe not... Great review, as always. Always insightful and entertaining!
Just come accross your channel, it’s mega 🙌🏼 one green telecaster ordered 😆👀 Really love your style and no nonsense approach, refreshing and genuine ✌🏼
@@chaskiandcie that’s correct he said when this 25 is sold there are no more! They can’t order anymore from supplier. So last chance to get a new one! That update was a few weeks ago so I expect they only have a few left now. Or you may have to keep an eye on eBay for a used one. Good luck 🤞🏼
Only have one Tele, a semi-retired Squier road warrior that I sort of forget about and then rediscover for an afternoon every now and then. It's lineage is at best murky, but it does possess a baseball bat neck that I have always liked, so I've never really thought to replace the old girl. However, your enthusiasm with this new thinner necked instrument has stirred the beginnings of a thought, so maybe I'll take a look around and see what's out there. Looking forward to the next chapters to see what you find.
I enjoy having almost every make and model of electric guitar. It's fun to pick up something different when the mood strikes. But if I could only keep 1 guitar it would be a Telecaster.
If I could only keep one guitar it would be my Vintera '72 Tele Custom re-issue with the neck HB. Weighs a ton, sounds amazing for both rhythm (bridge) & lead (neck).
Getting my guitar nerd fix by watching an older film on a quite New Year's Eve morning. I hope it helps with the YT algorithm, too. That is a great looking guitar! I have a couple of Epiphones in Olive Drab Green--a Flying V and a '61 SG with the vibrola. The color has really grown on me. Happy New Year, Colin!
"i need 'em all..."....no truer words were ever spoken! And i don't mean as belongings, but i want to hold them, feel them, play them, pull them apart and have fun. If i bond it's a keeper, if not someone else will....A pleasure as always, love from Switzerland🎸🤘🎸
Once again great video I am A Tele guy Love the series on these guitars I have A Dillon tele it's my favorite guitar. Can't wait until next week to see what's next you have become my favorite UA-camr I tell as many people as I can to watch your channel thank you
that solder job on the selector switch looks subpar to me. i wish they would use standard vintage style switchcraft style switches instead of circuit boards. but these probably cost a couple bucks less per unit. the first improvement i do to most cheap electrics is replacing the switch and pots if necessary. it usually is.
Wow. Does that Tokai sound as good as it looks ? I have a 2020 Squier 60’s Vibe Custom Tele Sunburst and I love it ! But I just bought the Gibson Les Paul Tribute Tobacco Burst 3 weeks ago,and haven’t put that down much ! I was very pleasantly surprised about the Squier custom 60s vibe. Was very impressed! Great video as always, Colin! I love comparing telecasters, can’t wait!
That's a beauty Colin. There is just something about a double bound tele that rocks my world. And then to be that Green colour takes it up to another level. Just looking on Thomann and they have a sunburst in the same spec.......sorely tempted. You need to be on commission mate. If a potential owner was to change the pickups, pots, switch, bridge saddles and tuners to better quality the result should give any fender a run for its money and would be a superior guitar to a Mexican version for similar money. I assume that colour is an exclusive to Andertons edition?
The very start of the audio demo, that bridge pickup is one of the best I have heard from a Tele and I have owned a few! Currently have an expensive set of handwound pickups in mine and the bridge pickup doesnt sound anywhere near as good :-(
Damn you Colin! I'd made my peace and accepted that I wouldn't buy one of these some months back. As soon as they appeared on the horizon on Andertons website I started fantasizing about owning one. Now you've opened Pandora's guitar case again, and I can't get it shut. I'd convinced myself that the HB-TE62 was a good enough alternative, but now ..... me want one! Would love you to check out the HB JA-60 CC. I've been GASing for an Inca Silver one of those for quite some time too. They look like an astounding buy for not very much money. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your Friday post every week!
Some of these Squier series guitars just like the Epihones are getting so good now that is there any point in spending over a grand more for a Fender or Gibson? certainly not for live playing not sure an audience would hear a difference, bound to have a different feel to the player I guess but worth the extra? Great vid Colin as always cheers.
Just recently bought an Epi Les Paul Custom in Black. Couldn't believe it. But I did not find a single thing to nitpick. Not even the pickups. Are there better pickups. Yeah there will but you can change them for your needs. But pay more then 4000 Euros for a Gibson Custom is just crazy. Quality really stepped up in the last years. Also have a squire classic vibe in gold. Really nice vintage feeling strat. 😁 People who think you cannot play a gig with them are nuts in my opinion.
@@Daniel-uu8ur yep I recently bought an Epiphone LP Special as wanted something with P90's was blown away by sound and quality! So much so that I just bought an Epiphone Firebird and jeez is it damn good! No issues with either guitar played out the box. I was so impressed I had to do an umboxing and review vid on them both. May have to try one of these Squiers next!
I keep trying to talk myself into pulling the trigger on one of these. Absolutely love a double-bound tele and the olive looks sweet. Maybe I'll wait until this ends up on your Reverb page.
That matches your Casino! I just bought my first ever tele...butterscotch..black guard...high end pickups and pots, older Mexican neck with a satin finish that i love..etc...light for a tele and I love it! I love that double bound bit though...mine doesn't have binding
Another fun review for all us musicians to consider. Regarding amps, the Princeton has always been what I aspire to one day, however, since you have several, why not splurge a hundred quid on an Orange amp detonator or similar, and run two amps wet/dry or alternate. It might be interesting to see how each new purchase is effected by switching g between the ever present Princeton and another of your amp collection. I’ve got a Laney 15w Ironheart paired with an orange dark terror (and their respective cabs). It is rare that I don’t run them both wet/dry, as nothing sounds as good once you’ve tried it. I do suspect you will enjoy your new guitars even more if you make this addition to your set-up. Or try it, and see if it’s worth the hassle maybe.
Great series on the Telecasters. I really enjoy your videos; they are very informative and I do enjoy your playing too! I am looking forward to your next video in the series. I have never been a fan of the Telecaster, however I decided I wanted something with that “Tele sound.” I didn’t want to put much of my guitar money into it since I was unsure about actually playing a Telecaster, so, I found a Squier Limited-Edition Bullet Telecaster Electric Guitar Lake Placid Blue on Musicians Friend that was on sale for $137 US. I then went to Amazon and picked up a set of Hipshot locking tuners for $59, a complete 920D T4W-C wiring harness for $65 and a set of Fender Pure Vintage Reissue Telecaster pickups for $110. While putting in these bits I did a complete set up on the base guitar including rolling the fretboard. So… I have $371 (299 pounds) in a Telecaster that sounds amazing! Perhaps you might want to duplicate this and compare it to the rest of the Telecasters that you are comparing. This guitar is pretty decent on its own, however the mods take it to the next level. If I decide I want something different all my components can be moved to another guitar. Having said that, this one plays wonderfully and sounds great too so I don’t really feel the need to replace it. It plays as well as my Gibsons and PRSs and has that classic Tele sound!
Missed this video - great looking guitar. Would look great next to a classic custom in that 3-tone sunburst on the wall. Do I sense a new tele custom obsession coming on? Must say you have some of the best taste out of all the guitar youtubers, wouldn't mind owning any of the stuff in your collection. Although much more SG heavy, very similar taste to my own. I agree with your take on telecasters, so many different types of the same exact thing. I don't need one in every color in the same configuration, but there are so many different variations you can create. With humbuckers, P90, mixes, neck humbuckers, some with a third pickup, a hollow-body f hole version, rosewood neck maple neck, all the various neck shapes and radiuses. You can have a lot of telecasters that all tick a different box from one another. Right now I am building a full mahogany parts telecaster with Gibson scale length, dual humbucker, stop tail + tunomatic bridge, big headstock strat neck - inspired by the troublemaker series but a step further. I also hate single bound telecasters, double binding or none. My version of a Gibson Telecaster. Then the black and gold Bigsby version of the troublemaker came out and now I want to make second parts caster, double bound, bigsby and bound neck to fullfill both itches.
I have a light weight paranormal offset squire - which I assume has a similar sound - and it is awesome. The frets were flawless, with a nice bevel, no sharp edges, no buzzing, polished. ALNICO pickups with the same specs as Fender. There's something great about the telecaster neck pickup. It's mellow, can do jazz, and when distorted does not sound fizzy(although can be a little bit dark). But the bridge pickup is very bright so the two combined have just that great, expressive sound.
I bought a 40th anniversary on black Friday. Just couldn't resist it for the price. I Really like it. Installed Wilkinson compensated brass saddles. Easiest bang for the buck upgrade I ever made to a guitar. :-)
Thanks for the great video again. Really appreciate you being sponsor free btw. I do think it would be interesting to see how the classic vibe compares to the player tele. On paper at least, it seems like you’d be paying extra for the Fender name on the headstock and sacrificing some of those nicer vintage specs the classic vibe has.
Got the first run 50's CV blonde tele as a lark ... out of my Japanese Fender, Rickenbacker, Epis, Gibson Lp, Gretsch, and a Martin ... probably the best of the bunch. These things are unbelievable!
Yes Colin, she's gorgeous, and I want a black one badly. I'll have it one day but I'm saving up for a specific Marshall (a '70s JMP) and my Gods they're spendy these days. Hope all's rockin' sweetly for you and the family, ol' son.
@@theguitaristas Nope! lol - I only ever used one in my left (offstage) ear, and no tinnitus, thank the Gods. My old rig was two JMPs and a Hiwatt. Loud? I was considered the loudest in Florida back then, (I never thought I was that loud). This was the old punk rock days, and I loved that sound. Course the were other 'things' that came with the ol' 'no future' lifestyle and - well, it's boring old story. Anyway what I liked was - at these volumes your guitar took on a 'life of it's own' an' you ended up hangin' on for dear life, lol! I used the Telecaster Deluxe back then. The old Hiwatts simply aren't available these days. Wow. crazy days, but I bet you were havin' much the same run 'bout the same time.
Colin, great video, again…I noticed something I have run into, myself, listening to the demo…there is a static sound that occurs when your hand rubs against the pick guard (scratch plate), sorry. I think you noticed it too. I cured that problem by applying car wax on the scratch plate, giving the surface a static free property. Give it a try! Cheers.
I almost bought this same exact guitar... love the look and color. I have a CV 50's telecaster blonde and thought it was great. It was just a bit brighter than I preferred... and I have a warmer sounding USA fender telecaster that I love... so I sold the CV. But it was very good. Maybe if I changed the bridge to brass that would have made it warmer sounding. I didn't care for a blonde telecaster either but lots of people love that look.
Hey Colin, not that I would ever want to get in the way of your desire to buy guitars at a frankly alarming rate 😉, but I’m sure I’ve gleaned from Andertons videos on the subject that there are no neck size differences in the 50s and 60s Squiers like there is on the Epiphones. I think the difference will be fingerboard material and colour options. I do stand to be corrected though! You could put the money you’ve just saved into a Sire T3 if you wanted… 😁
The olive green, I call it army green, looks great! That CV sounds great! I just got my CV50s. I noticed the fingers on the pickguard static in the video. It's really dry here and the dryer sheet did the trick. I think I need to shield/ground the pickguard.
Just bought the Oxblood gold gear version. After seeing Nathaniel Murphy playing one for Chicago MS. Then saw this video with my other favourite guitar nut. Still happy, can’t wait to get it seems one of those ‘if you know’ models. Never fancied a tele but hey!
That was a pleasure to listen to, wonderful sounding guitar. I bought my first proper instrument, an Ibanez Iceman in Denmark Street in the mid-80’s for £180. 40-odd years later a vastly superior guitar has barely doubled in price.
Thanks for another great review. I appreciate your honest comments and the way you clear points of view. Hopefully you will keep on making your videos as you do now. Now i will try to find out how/If i can order one of these beauties. Cheers.
I had some new bought Squiers over the years. None of them ever had polished frets. But the Fretboards were extremely dry and the fretends sharp. All of them were unplayable out of the box. But if you spend some time fixing these issues you geht really good guitars for the money (...still have a Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mustang: the Jaguar ist ok, Mustang and Jazzmaster are great!) Your Channel here is awesome - it is always a joy to watch and listen to you!!! Thanks!!!

I bought a CV 60s Thinline Tele in natural last summer. Loved it out of the box. I've since changed the saddles to Fender vintage brass and the horrid moto pickguard to a 3 ply black. About to upgrade the pups and controls. Not because the ones are bad. At this price, why not?? The fit, finish and fretwork are great.

Re the tuners (by the way these vintage tuners are one of my favourites) I’ve had exactly the same issue with 2 classic vibes a 50’s and an Esquire and it’s alway just one out of six, so made one good set out of 2 and bought a genuine set of Fender ones for the other guitar. They look the same but do feel slightly better quality and work perfectly not too expensive either. I love these tuners because strings are easy to remove and put back on without changing strings every time. Thanks again for interesting video Colin.
We do have to bleed for our art, don't we? Fab job again! In Canada, we never get those exclusive colours. Such a shame! I do love this colour. I did get an Epi SG in Olive Drab (which I am sure you would love too). SO glad you liked the G&L from last time. I LOVE G&L's and implore you to look into an ASAT Special. Those MFD pickups are going to blow you away. I would also recommend the Bluesboy too (like a Fender thin line with a humbucker in the neck and the single coil in the bridge). Cheers, mate!

Great episode and great guitar. I have the black Esquire version of this and its a very nice guitar except maybe the electronics. I wish Squier would do an inspired by Fender USA version.

Still good but those Chinese ones were quality.

Sweet tele! Great show again!
😎🙏
I thought I had enough guitars in my life (Strat, SG, Les Paul, Hollow Body), but you just made me go out and buy a Tele.
😆👍
Your excitement is infectious and inspiring! Picked up my Esquire to jam with you on jam track. Always a pleasure, cheers mate!
Nice one Stu! 😁👍

Fantastic channel. Just love the consistent reviews of similar style guitars, especially the Epiphones. Warm personality, knowledgeable, great playing style.

Just got the Squier FSR CV Esquire Custom in black, fantastic, very light, resonant, nothing I want to change about it.
Nice one! 😁👍
Cheers Mattia! 😎👍
Happy new guitar day mate! 😎👍
Hi, how is your 40th Anniversary Tele?
Just come accross your channel, it’s mega 🙌🏼 one green telecaster ordered 😆👀
Really love your style and no nonsense approach, refreshing and genuine ✌🏼
Cheers man, glad you found us! 🔥
Where did you ordered it? I'm in France
@@chaskiandcieAndertons have 25 coming in that’s it after that. 17 were already sold when I spoke to them.
@@The666vip are you saying that they will not sell other squier olive drab telecaster after this batch, and that I should order mine?

I love the laid back style and sensible commentary, just what the doctor ordered. These CV's are super, I think I see one in my future.
that solder job on the selector switch looks subpar to me. i wish they would use standard vintage style switchcraft style switches instead of circuit boards. but these probably cost a couple bucks less per unit. the first improvement i do to most cheap electrics is replacing the switch and pots if necessary. it usually is.
Never seen an Army surplus guitar before.
I saw a Strat last year in army colour.

Wow. Does that Tokai sound as good as it looks ? I have a 2020 Squier 60’s Vibe Custom Tele Sunburst and I love it ! Great video as always, Colin! I love comparing telecasters, can’t wait!
Another excellent review.Cant stop watching these. Many thanks !
Nice series upcoming! I’m excited to see…..cheers man!
Cheers Brian, I'd think it's available in a few places... too good to keep to themselves!
I also suffer from the "but it's a different color so I need it" syndrome. Teles are my favorites. Good show, mate!
Before you finish this series, put a humbucker in this thing and use that in the series too! That would be cool.
Definitely a future mod series!

Cheers Paul! 😁👍
These classic vibe guitars have always been fantastic from day one. It's the unique neck that is the selling point.
People who think you cannot play a gig with them are nuts in my opinion.
@@idealmethod And the Alnico III pups. They are actually unique in the current Squier/Fender line-up.
@@Daniel-uu8ur yep I recently bought an Epiphone LP Special as wanted something with P90's was blown away by sound and quality! Very Cool Thankyou. Love the color ever since seeing the Olive Drab Epiphone Casino. This Telecaster looks awesome being double bound.
I have a Squire classic vibe telecaster butterscotch blonde I love it
I keep trying to talk myself into pulling the trigger on one of these. Absolutely love a double-bound tele and the olive looks sweet. Maybe I'll wait until this ends up on your Reverb page.
Don't hold your breath though! 😁👍
Cheers Paul, that's definitely something I should do... 🤔
Great vid! I’ve been itching to get a tele back in my stable for some time now. These colors are tempting!
Thanks Colin, just ordered a Tele Classic Vibe 60s Thinline!
😁👍
Telecasters are my second love I think! 😁👍
Another great video! Looking forward to seeing the comparison videos. Great channel ! Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻
I love a good double bound Tele and the Squiers are a pretty good representation. CME has these in the States. Great video Colin.👍👍
I bought a 40th anniversary on black Friday. Just couldn't resist it for the price. I Really like it. Installed Wilkinson compensated brass saddles. Easiest bang for the buck upgrade I ever made to a guitar. :-)
Olive Green is a winner for sure, I really want an LP Junior in Olive Green. Great vid sir!
The Walnut plug on the Truss rod access is a nice touch, something you see on a Yankee built Tele, the little things.
😎👍
Got the first run 50's CV blonde tele as a lark ... out of my Japanese Fender, Rickenbacker, Epis, Gibson Lp, Gretsch, and a Martin ... probably the best of the bunch.
These things are unbelievable!
Yes Colin, she's gorgeous, and I want a black one badly. I'll have it one day but I'm saving up for a specific Marshall (a '70s JMP) and my Gods they're spendy these days. Hope all's rockin' sweetly for you and the family, ol' son.
Cheers mate, yes that’s a big purchase but a good investment I reckon… just hope you got some earplugs too! 😁👍
Cheers.
Cheers man, yeah could hear loads of static on this and did you see when I stopped and rubbed the pickguard? 😁👍
Was that the pink looking one?... I wasn't keen on that but the new FSR versions look pretty good.
Cheers Antony, I only watched some of the Andertons review so thanks for the heads up... I think a T3 will find it's way here before long! 😁👍
Cheers.
Thanks Wilfred 😎👍
Another year further down the road and... Andertons has them again! This time i’m not too late and ordered one today 😊
I had some new bought Squiers over the years. None of them ever had polished frets. But the Fretboards were extremely dry and the fretends sharp. All of them were unplayable out of the box. But if you spend some time fixing these issues you geht really good guitars for the money (...still have a Jazzmaster, Jaguar and Mustang: the Jaguar ist ok, Mustang and Jazzmaster are great!)
Your Channel here is awesome - it is always a joy to watch and listen to you!!!

Always look forward to your videos sir…no d baggery, ever…good man

Perfect outro. Perfect video.
I have a similar guitar (but the 3-Tone Sunburst version) and when changing the strings, the string ferrules fell out for me too. So I suppose that's a thing with these Squiers.
I have the newer MII and do not have that problem. Had a few MIC and no problem that way. So.... I am guessing it is an unusual thing. Cheers
I wonder if the cooler weather makes the wood shrink slightly? I have two classic vibes, never happened to me.
Very possible!... pretty 'chilly' in the studio at this time of year 🥶
Try using a soldiering iron with a fresh, clean tip. Use it to heat up the ferrules and press them in. Should make them snug. HTH
